The wings are huge and good, but a little pricey! Â The blt is good to but sometimes they get a little too much cheddar on them. Â I normally wouldn't complain about cheddar, however, in this case it is burying the taste of bacon!
This particular location doesn't have the best service and the wait can be longer than expected - even when they are slow.
Great little place, good atmosphere. I am so hooked to their BLTs (must get the egg on it!) that I have yet to branch out and try the wings, though it is definitely on my to-do list. Glasses are icy cold, options for draft beers are pretty limited though. I have had good service, and absolutely terrible service in the many times ive been here, but the food is good enough to continue to bring me back.
Review Source:If you're going to go to the Peanut, go for the wings. Â Like many other reviewers on here have stated - they are fantastic, and they're actually chicken wings, not the tiny little drummies you get everywhere else. Â The BLT is pretty decent as well, but if you've never been the Peanut and love wings - go there now. Â There is nothing fancy about this place, but it's been slightly upgraded from the dive it used to be. Â Luckily the wing recipe hasn't changed. Â
Positives:
-Best wings ever. Â Seriously.
-Laid back, casual dive bar atmosphere. Â Watched the last Superbowl here and had a blast
-Decent drink specials - $6.50 PBR pitchers!
Negatives:
-Small place, but I don't think we've ever not found a place to sit.
-Food can take awhile, but just enjoy a beer or two while you're waiting.
Don't expect multiple sauce choices (there's only one) or a huge beer menu, but the Peanut is absolutely perfect for what it is: Â a slightly-divey, awesome neighborhood bar that has the best wings I've ever had.
I LOVE the wings here!
Here's what you need to know:
1. They only have 1 sauce. Compared to Buffalo WW sauce, it is thinner/not as creamy, and is more peppery. I really like it!
2. Each buffalo wing has both the drumstick and "wing", so getting a dozen of these is literally 2 dozen of the BWW version. The Peanut also has larger wings, so it ends up being about 130% more food per "wing" than BWW. I usually eat 18 from BWW, and 7 from the Peanut fills me up!
I honestly haven't eaten anything else here, so I can only comment on the wings. The staff has always seemed friendly when I spoke with them. I usually get take-out, but I like the atmosphere inside (127th and Metcalf location).
Im a big fan of this place. They have giant wings that are awesome! Only 1 flavor to choose from (buffalo) but they got it right. Staff is friendly and attentive. This is a great bar for watching the game or just having a few beers. One down side is that the menus are gross. They are just unlaminated pieces of paper and I always feel like I need to wash my hands after handling them. But I still love this place..
Review Source:I've learned that any place which hangs a major form of transportation from its roof is alright with me. (Keep looking, you'll find it.)
The Peanut offers delicious food along side refreshing beverages. I've known this place in both forms. For those of you who don't know the bar has been made over to better accommodate its ritzy location. Before this it was a sketchy hole in the wall offering a reprieve to the outcasts of Johnson County such as myself. Although I miss the dejected and dilapidated dining room, I enjoy having a spruced up version I don't mind showing my mother when she comes to town.
From the menu this pub offers a better BLT than you will find in any bar (I've heard this form more than one person) the owner will go as far to hand deliver farm raised tomatoes to compliment the dishes cultivated by time and care. The chili is hearty, meaty and slow cooked with a hint of spice. One of my personal favorites is the chili dog, they grill a premium dog open face then slather on the chili.
The piece de resistance here, beyond a doubt, are the wings. They are phenomenal! The monster wings in a light peppery batter are thrown into a frier, during which period I recommend grabbing a drink and relaxing a bit, the wings take about half an hour to fully cook. After wards tossed in a piping hot  Frank's buffalo sauce and served with a true complimentary blue cheese dressing. The dressing is cool, well blended and with a hint of cilantro it will distract your taste buds from the prominent heat of the wings themselves. I've said it before and I will say it again, to keep me happy feed wings at least once weekly, and these are the wings I would choose over all others in the KC Metro area.
A good note to heed is this: The bartenders themselves are better suited to wait on your needs if they know you will take care of theirs. If you are new to this scene I recommend coming early, and sitting in the dining room with a waitress until you develop a repertoire with the space
Went there with my son and my boyfriend. Yes, the wings looked good, wasn't in the mood for spicy food so I didn't order any, I wish I would have.
My son and boyfriend got the blt with extra bacon. They were not impressed with the shredded cheese on it (really, wth?), I got the rueben and it was gross. I'm a huge rueben fan and they didn't do it any justice. I think the wings would have been good. Our bill was almost $60 with tip. We ordered chips and salsa, 2 blts, 2 cocktails, 1 ruben and 1 regular drink. I don't think the price tag was worth what we got. Again, the wings looked awesome and that's what everyone was eating, wish I would have went with that.
I visited here last night and it is your typical bar and grill. Â I love wings and went there because of its reputation. Â Another in my party ordered a burger and it was a burger. Â Nothing special.
The wings are good. Â I thought the flavor was solid with the right amount of heat. Â They don't offer you a choice so the heat is what it is. Â They were cooked perfectly. Â I just like smaller wings. Â They bring out the whole wing instead of having it cut in 1/2 like most place. Â
A bigger wings most likely lets you have a juicier wing and will be less prone to over cooking. Â But like cracking open blue crabs, they are a pain to eat (and messy).
The fries were average.
It is certainly not a terrible experience by any means. Â I just don't see a reason to make it a regular stop. Â If you are a wings fan, you should definitely go. Â I would like to go back and try the BLT.
The Peanut is a standard bar and grill, meaning it has a great dive feel about it.  I will say they have mutated chickens here because the wing are über massive.  They are like those wings that box that guy in the face in the commercial because he didn't take his tummy meds.  The sauce the put on the wings is spicy and I like it.  A few of my friend swear by the BLT here.  I am just not a BLT fan.
They run drink specials all the time. Â They have a private room you can reserve. Â You can hang a the bar and watch TV, chat it up with friends at table or talk with the bartender. Â I wouldn't call it Cheers, but if you go often enough they will eventually know your name.
Go for Lunch, Dinner, After-Work or Late Night... they seem to have those bases covered.
They have two listings so I am covering both bases...
Nice little neighborhood bar on 127th. Â Since the original owner sold to Tanners and they were able to remodel this place, it's really gone through a transformation. Â The chairs no longer all have ripped fabric, there are a row of booths on one wall and they replaced the concrete floor with carpet. Â Not to mention the abundance of flat screens. Â
Still the same great Peanut food and service though. Â Very strong drinks too I might add, a good thing.
Hands down, some of the best wings I've ever had in my life. Â Includes the full wing with some awesome buffalo sauce.
With that being said, it is a hole in the wall bar. Â Kind of smells like stale booze when you walk in. Â Bathrooms aren't the cleanest. Â Grungy people at the bar staring at you when you walk in. Â Staff isn't the most friendly, especially if they are busy because there is only usually one person working the front.
If you don't mind sacrificing all that for some of the most incredible wings ever, then you'll love this place.
I have to agree with what Aimee wrote previously.
This place is the definition of a hole in the wall. It's very unassuming and kind of hidden in the strip mall. I doubt anyone would find this on accident. If I had, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have eaten here because the atmosphere isn't great. It's a typical bar dive.
It was recommended to me by someone who grew up in the area and once he found out that I loved buffalo wings he said I had to stop by before I left. He said we should split a BLT and also split a dozen wings.
It was a great call. I don't think I've ever ordered a BLT anywhere before. This one was really good and I could tell the lettuce and tomato was fresh. Bacon was perfect.
The wings are huge and would definitely be one of the top 5 best buffalo wings that I've had. The sauce is tangy and spicy and the chicken was very well seasoned. They were paired with Peanut's homemade blue cheese which was a great compliment.
Well worth the trip if you're in the area.
What??? Â No one has reviewed this fine establishment?? Â Color me stunned! Â For reals.
So my friend who is from the area introduced me to the peanut when I was visiting one time. Â We went to one downtown - but I don't know the address so I ain't reviewing it! Â I have been to this one several times so here goes nothing.
It is disgusting and divey and fabulous and wonderful and I wouldn't change a thing. Â I took some girlfriends here for lunch labor day weekend. Â They were horrified - well one was - the other one actively enjoyed the greasy menu and the dark interior. Â When I said this was the fancy one friend #1 was even more horrified. Â
They have the best BLTs ever. Â Their wings are hot and spicy and huge! Â Decent beer selection. Â Really, it is your basic dive bar with great food.
There are times when you don't want to dress up, want to worry about where your shoes are going, and don't care if you haven't washed or combed your hair for a week - and that is when you go to the peanut.
DO IT!! DELICIOUS.
okaybye.
