Been waiting years for a place to grab a quick slice in Edgewater. Thrilled when this opened. Service is friendly. Pizza is edible. Does the trick if you're starving and desperate, but if you've got more time and an oven at home, walk down to Dominick's and buy a frozen pizza.

Picked up a slice. Here we go:

Pros: Slices are pretty big, and they actually throw it in the oven for a couple minutes when you order so it's hot and crispy, unlike some other places that just have it sit under a heat lamp and all day. Friendly staff. good location right by Loyola and the Granville Red Line.

Cons: Super greasy, like soak through the plate greasy, not my cup of tea. Also, at $4+ a slice you can get definitely a better deal in the city.

I love Pete's.  Friendly staff, chill environment, delicious pasta (they have amazing daily pasta specials for cheap), and the GELATO.  Mmmmmm, the gelato.  Great neighborhood place.  Avoid going late on Friday and Saturday nights unless you love Loyola freshmen and sophomores (no offense!).

I have been Staying in this area for three years now, I gave these guys five stars because it is a pizza place, by the slice that accepts credit cards!!! Unlike other places in the area... It is a better place to order a whole pie!!! When their pizza is fresh it will rival many other places in the city... It is a true college town food experience... Its nice to see a joint like this right down the way from loyola...Give this place a chance, you get what you pay for, and for the rest of the snobs on here bad mouthing the place... Don't go here then!!! but for this apt. Of three it is a godsend!!!!

Oh, how it hurts to write this--I love to support local businesses, especially ones that are clean, bright, open late and have earnest and pleasant service.  Pete's scores on all four counts.

But alas, that's not enough for a restaurant:  the food must be the star. In Pete's case, it's more like an over-the-hill bit player. Salad was fairly good (props for romaine and radicchio instead of iceberg & red cabbage), cannoli acceptable; but the espresso was lukewarm and almost devoid of crema (a sign of stale beans, improper grind/tamp, underdosing, insufficient pressure or any or all of the above). So far, we've descended from five to four to three stars ('A-OK").

However, in a pizzeria (especially one with "Pizza" in its name) one expects the pizza to be solid if not stellar--especially in one of America's pizza capitals.  The only thing "solid" about the pizza was the crust.....so solid I could have broken a tooth. It was like a slab of concrete. I realize my pizza prejudice tilts towards NYC/Neapolitan, but as a Northsider nearly 35 years I also like decent deep dish and even can abide South Side or St. Louis thin crust.  Pete's "thin" crust fits none of these descriptors--neither shatteringly crackery like St. Louis, flexible like S. Side, nor that resilient top/crunchy toasty bottom like NYC. My slice lacked any sort of outer puffy "collar" one would expect on a non-deep-dish pizza. It didn't flex or display any kind of crispness--rather, it was more like a flavorless biodegradable quarry tile. The toppings did not even partially redeem the crust: the tomato sauce tasted like underseasoned (bland and devoid of salt) too-sweet tomato paste, the cheese somewhat sparse, the peppers soggy.

I'd have given it one star, but the servers were so sweet, even offering to reheat the slice for me when it cooled off halfway through. I went midafternoon--perhaps the food is better at night.  Don't get me wrong--if I found myself starving late at night en route home and didn't want to wait and cook, I'd eat at Pete's. But not the pizza!

    The pizza is fantastic.
The staff hovers over people and spoils the experience.

The service is nice enough, the place is contemporary and clean, the food "looks" good but the fundamental problem is that the food is just truly bad. I gave this place a couple of tries. The pizza is consistently tasteless. I ordered an Italian beef sandwich to see if there was any reason at all to re-order from them and got these thick gross slices of dry rubbery beef.

After tasting the food a couple of times it became clear that they use cheap core ingredients or the kitchen just does not know how to prepare food on an average level. I am guessing they have cheap, passionless owners because who lets food that bad go out all of the time.

I visited Pete's Pizza on Granville Avenue on 11-21-12. I ordered the number 5, which included a 18 inch one topping pizza and an order of boneless chicken wings (total was $21.99 with tax). I ordered pepperoni for my topping. Pete's pizza thin crust is always good. Their sauce has a semi-sweet taste to it and the crust is very thin. I was surprised the boneless chicken wings were good. I had the hottest flavor and I dipped them in the ranch dressing that was included. I have always been a fan of Pete's Pizza but I used to visit the original location on Western.

Not sure why this place is getting such bad reviews. It's good pizza by the slice. It's alwasy busy - price is okay. $3-$5 for a slice and pop. I like regular pizza nothing fancy and I'm a chicagoan who likes the NYC slice. I think they may also have deep dish by the slice too - I saw it today.

Yeah, I hate to do this too, but....our food was bland, overpriced, and they messed up our order...repeatedly.  The chicken on my chicken ceaser salad was ice cold, super-dry, and bland. I'm pretty sure it's made of pressed chicken parts, then frozen. The menu says the chicken is grilled but there's no way. The romaine was fine...plentiful and crisp. Croutons were dry, dressing was thin and bland. Parmesan was sparse.

Husband's lasagne was okay, nothing special. His side salad was a big hunk of yellow iceberg.

When he ordered the lasagne he asked if it came with garlic bread and was told it did. Got home and found it was plain italian bread, not garlic. But that's not all. First, they forgot to charge for the ceaser, so he had to remind them. Then, they had given him the salad, but after waiting 15 minutes he asked where the lasagne was. Apparently they had a lot of delivery orders, so.  Next, when we got home he noticed the slice of chocolate cake he ordered (and paid for) never made it into the bag.  Too bad, because the chocolate cake is fabulous...best thing in the store.

After a call to the manager, manager said he told my husband it would be 15 minutes but hubby says no. Manager also said he told hubby to pick out the slice of cake himself, but again, hubby says no. In fairness, the manager is delivering the cake as we speak, so kudos for that. And hubby is a bit hard of hearing so that could be on him.

Still, with a $10.95 salad as bad as this one...we won't be back.

I too am surprised by all this bad news. Are we all going to the same place? The place with the pizza at 1100 W Granville? 'Cause the Pete's I go to is flavorbud heaven. They have the greatest specials, so you can eat much without paying much. Plus, and this truly is a best kept secret...the carrot cake...OMG. The carrot cake is looney tunes, it's as if Bugs Bunny gave the carrots to Paula Deen and Paula Deen baked it with an extra dose of shut-yo-mouth, then you ate it---and you were damn satisfied!

The pizza LOOKS good, but tastes like cardboard. Aka crap. The owner must have some impaired taste buds, or is a heavy smoker/tobacco chewer, because I would seriously be embarrassed to serve such tasteless pizza in Chicago.

Also, they advertise free WiFi. Yeah, false advertising. Not only does the Wifi not work, but if you ask them to fix it, they say they cannot because it would interfere with their credit card processing machine.

The only reason this place manages to stay in business is because the Loyola kiddies find it convenient. Stop supporting this place so they can either revamp their recipes or shut down so a decent restaurant with decent food can open up shop!

Anywho, avoid at all costs, or you will surely wish for your money back if you dine here!

wow I'm surprised by all the bad reviews for this place - i for sure thought it'd have high marks! now almost everyone had to complain out their pizza, and I actually did not have it, but my husband did and  he seemed to enjoy it.

As for me, I got their pasta and I thought it was fantastic!  it was one of their specials and it was just absolutely delicious - and a very large portion! The other thing that I thought was really really good was their chocolate milkshake - I am not exaggerating when I say that it honest to go was one of the best milkshakes I had ever had!

I refrained from giving them 5 stars because they did take a long time to bring out the shake. after the 1st time we asked for it they were confused because they thought they had given it to us already.... i told them to look around - there was no remnant of a milkshake at our table at all. After the waiter said ok I'll be right back, it took another while before someone finally came and gave it to us. that was very irritating, but after we tasted it, i forgave them ;)

I have only been to this place once, so maybe i'll try it again and think more positively or negatively after trying their pizza. but for now, i truly believed the food was great and would recommend it to people.

I've only ordered delivery from Pete's, never eaten there.

I live about half a mile from Pete's, so I've ordered from there probably half a dozen times.  There's absolutely nothing special about the pizza, salads or desserts, the time it takes to get it (for me, a consistent 40 minutes), the drivers, or anything else.  It's just a big MEH.

The best pizza I've had from them is called the SOB - sausage onion and bacon.  It's terrifyingly caloric, but a great splurge after, say, running a marathon or something.  The bacon on it is meaty and fatty (in a good way) and seems to enhance the taste of the sausage, too.  I enjoyed it most out of any pizza I've ordered from Pete's, but it still wasn't anything I'd tell people they HAD to try.

I will say that the delivery drivers have a habit of forgetting my free one liter pop.  You get a free one with delivery orders and they've forgotten it three times now.  They're always nice and come back with it (20 minutes later), but it's still a little irritating and there's always that moment where I wonder if I'm being a total jerk for asking them to bring it back even though it's an add-on to my order that Pete's gives you for free.  Seems like if it's free with every order, the delivery dudes should know not to leave the place without SOME liter bottle in their hands.

Anyway, 2.5 stars... but since fractions aren't allowed, I'll bump them up to 3.

Pizza Pete's is convenient, but Giordano's is just a few blocks north and much better tasting. I recently ordered take out from Pizza Petes and my order was lost. It took over an hour to get my pizza (advertised 30 min). I will say that they gave me the pizza for free.

This review hurts, but I have to be honest. I've lived in the neighborhood now for... 6 years. This stretch of Granville is a little strange- awesome, bright, bustling established businesses (Summer, Metropolis coffee, Ann Sather) and a few sad dilapidated ethnic groceries and cell phone retailers. And then, Pete's! Big bright, beautiful, gorgeous signage, open late- WOW! "Sweet!!" I thought to myself.

Then, I had their pizza. What looked like the freshest slice in the case. I walked it home, a mere 3 blocks. It was terrible. Super greasy, way too big, overpriced, and I only ate about a third of it, it was so bad. I was heartbroken. Not only for myself, my stomach and my wallet, but also for the neighborhood. I waited a month or so and then went back, determined to try again. Damnit, I want this place to succeed!!! No.

Listen, Pete. This is Chicago. YOU CAN"T SERVE CRAPPY PIZZA IN THIS TOWN AND STAY IN BUSINESS. Seriously, why would anyone get pizza here when you can go across the street to Ginos North and have their ahmazing pizza? Yes, they sell sandwiches, gelatto, etc etc. But why would I want to try a sandwich when I've had the pizza?

I hate saying this. I pray that they get a new recipie. Or that they fail and a GOOD pizza maker takes over. But I won't be going back. I hope other people do... it sure does LOOK good on the street...

Given its proximity to Loyola's campus, it's a perfect place to grab a bite to eat before or after class. The pizza isn't the best, but for a MASSIVE /GIGANTIC slice priced at a little over $4, you can't go wrong.

The sandwiches are really delicious, too. However, the clear star of this pizza joint is the potato chips. Sweet lord, they are my everything.

The pizza was ok.  Not great, not bad.  We would have given a 3, but the service was terrible.  We ordered delivery.  That means that we expected the food to be delivered to where we live; not just to the general vicinity.  It's a simple concept that seems to escape at least one of their delivery guys.

The delivery guy called us, said "I'm here."  I asked, "Where?.  He said "The lobby."  I asked if he needed us to buzz him in.  He said "No."  I said, "Are you coming up then?"  Nothing.  He hung up without saying a word.  Not sure if he was actually coming up (we live on the 7th floor of a mid-rise), I put my socks and shoes on and went downstairs, finding the guy just standing down there with our two pizzas sitting on the doorman's counter.

If the pizza were actually good, we might overlook this and order from them again.  But, we've already tried Giordano's, and have a couple other options to try, so we know that we have at least one place with better pizza, and that actually delivers to our door, to order from.

I want to give this place a better rating, I really do, but I just can't. I live on the same block as this place and have been there countless times since they opened hoping I would find something on their menu I would like.

I have tried so many different things but there are very few items that I can say are good or even above average:

Pizza - Their pizza, whether the very visually unappealing by the slice or a whole pie fresh from the oven, it's just not good. The crust is very doughy, they put on too much cheese on it and their sauce doesn't have much flavor. Their stuffed isn't anything to write home about either. Not as good as Giordano's and I'm not really a fan of that place either.

Sandwiches - Italian Beef is just awful. Their slices are so thick, which is not how this beef should be cut guys. It's an Italian Beef, the slices are supposed to be extremely thin and dipped in a flavorful juice. This sandwich completely fails in both of these regards. Their Italian sub was one of their worst Italian subs I have ever had. The bread was stale, and their meat was rather bland. The Italian sausage was ok. About your average sausage. Their meatball I would say the same. Philly cheese steak, was just awful too. There was hardly any meat on it and the green peppers and onions were not chopped small enough, very large pieces, and not cooked very long.

Sides - The one thing I do like about their sandwiches is the chips that come accompanied with them. These are pretty good. Don't ever get fries from this place unless you like soggy fries. Every time I have gotten fries from here they have always, always been soggy. Why any restaurant would serve soggy fries is beyond me. It just says they don't care. Their wings are also not good. They make Buffalo Wild Wings look like the Rolls Royce of wings. Their chicken ceasar is also very bland, mediocre at best.

Desserts - Now this is the one area they actually have decent items. Their turtle cheese cake is good. Their gelatto selection is good. So I had this chocolate gelatto that had chocolate coated coconut shavings which was amazing. But of course every time I have been back since looking for this flavor they did not have it. A few people that work there say it's a fan favorite but they don't make it often. Great business model guys. You have a fantastic gelatto flavor that is unique and outstanding but you don't make it often. They should have 2 bins of this at all times.

I would have given it 1 star, but the chips and desserts are actually good. My 2 stars is based off a somewhat extensive sampling of the menu. I will keep going back for the sweets. Hopefully one day, they will again have the chocolate gelatto with chocolate coated coconut shavings. If  this day ever comes it will be a tremendous day. But I have a feeling this place will do what it has always done for me.....disappoint.

If you're looking for great pizza, go to Felice's or Giordano's, which are both in the neighborhood. If you're looking for an individual slice of pretty good pizza that is fairly cheap, huge, and filling, go to Pete's! Their calzones are huge! I really enjoyed the sausage. Their thin pizzas are also fairly large, and stuffed pizza comes in pretty standard-size slices. I had a salad there once, and I wasn't a fan.  Go to Pete's if you're hungry for pizza and on a tight budget.

Now that it's summer, you might enjoy their gelato. Indeed, you may LOVE it. They have a great assortment of flavors! I'm a fan of the cappuccino and tiramisu. The nutella one is a hit. Ask for samples if you can't decide--they're always willing!

I just picked up a 14-inch stuffed with sausage, which ran around $22. This is neither a good nor a bad price, until you see what kind of value you're getting. In the end, Pete's was money well-spent.

I was amazed and happy when I picked up the box with how heavy it was, maybe the heaviest in my experience, yet feared that the catch would be an overlarge, leaden crust. Nope, the crust is light as a feather, yet somehow stands up to and contains the generous toppings. I've seen some complaints here about Pete's crust, but in my opinion it's masterfully done.

The main reason the pie weighs so much is that there's a METRIC TON of cheese on it, this from a guy for whom "there's never too much cheese on a pizza." Good cheese, low moisture, really stretchy out of the box.

When I ordered I wondered if I should ask for extra sausage, but didn't. I hate it when a sausage pizza has only cameo appearances by chunks of sausage. No problem here. Very generous. Sausage varies widely from place to place. The sausage here is not crumby and dry, nor rubbery and fatty. It hits a happy medium in texture. All I could have asked for is maybe some fennel or other herb to more loudly announce the presence of the meat, but that's a personal preference. The sausage is fine, and again, they did not skimp.

If I have one reservation about Pete's Pizza it's that the sauce is oversweet for my taste. I prefer a tomato sauce that just tastes like tomato, with perhaps a light herb flavor. This verges on catsup, although it has a nice puréed texture and seems to have been prepared with care. And they certainly aren't stingy with it.

Finally, every employee of the place I've encountered has treated me well. Since the place has a sophisticated decor and attracts a fresh-faced and trendy crowd, I was surprised and pleased with how down-to-earth the staff is.

Tried the pizza a few days after they opened.  It was pretty awful.  Bland, not really good at all.  I figured, ok, it's a few days after they opened.  Maybe they had a bad day.  No, after a couple months of neighbors ordering sandwiches from them and swearing by the food, I tried the pizza again (probably should have gone the sandwich route).  I went with the taco pizza thinking it has to have more flavor to it.  I believe it was actually worse then the first time I tried their pizza.

Sorry folks, I love having this business on the corner and the Loyola kids seem to like it (or it allows for their meal cards and is simply an alternative to cafeteria food).  So, good to have them in the neighborhood, but really not sure how they keep one business open let alone two.

Yes, Pete's on Western has better pizza. But I must say, the chili is AWESOME!

I ordered the hamburger sliders once. The buns were hard. The french fried onions are a nice touch. (since that was all I could eat with the buns on the sliders being hard) Like I said before, the pizza here is just ok.

    Three stars for the chili.

I catered from Pete's pizza for my Superbowl 2012 party.
I got their number 8 special for 3 pizzas.
I ordered sausage, cheese, spinach and tomato.
Everyone at the party (12 people) loved the pizza and wanted to know where it was from. They loved the think crust.
The delivery was prompt and the gentleman I dealt with on the phone was extremely nice to me.
I will order from them again, and can;t wait to actually go and eat at their new beautiful restaurant and try their gelato.

Man, wasn't expecting all these bad reviews. Of course this isn't a gourmet restaurant but cheap deep dish by the slice is very convenient. I get out of here with less than $5 spent and I'm a satisfied customer.

The thin crust veggie is good, but the stuffed spinach is totally a winner. This is one delicious serving of "vegetables." It only takes a few minutes to heat up the slice and boom, you have a cheesy, carbo-filled meal in front of you. The workers here are always friendly and they'll joke around with you if you're not a douche bag. The gelato is also good, but I can never even finish the smallest size.

Overall, Pete's is a solid pizzeria and their late hours are a plus.

I'm surprised by the bad reviews, like some of the others. I live right around the block from this place and come here often. The pizza is great, and they have a huge selection of pizza by the slice. The sauce is slightly sweet and delicious, I've also had some of their desserts, and they're amazing.

Sometimes the wait can be a bit annoying, but it's not like this place is a McDonalds. They're also extremely new, I think some people are being a bit harsh. Mistakes happen, especially at the beginning. They've never messed up my food in the many, many times I've been there, but I can't imagine that they wouldn't do everything they could to make it up to the customer.

Overall, I think this place has been a great addition to the neighborhood, and I think everyone should give it a try!

We've all been there once or twice. Let's face it. There are times when you order for delivery and you get a food incorrect for one reason or other.  Maybe somethings cold or just plain not what you ordered.  This place is not any of those things.  It's much worse in my mind.  Everything was bland.
We ordered about six items so we'd get a variety of choices.  Onion rings, sliders, chicken tenders, fries, etc.  What we got were warm and nothing better than products poured into a fryer or microwave oven from a plastic bag that was pulled right out of a freezer.  The stuff food warehouses are made of.
Everything was bland, tasteless and dry.  You'd think Pete would take just a tad bit of pride in his products and actually make something himself.  This was just like what you would get if you cleaned out you fridge and cooked it.  Terrible.

I was going to buy a slice of pizza when I was with my old lady one night. She went in to order her food and I was going to park the car. Apparently when they put this place up they made a "pizza guy loading zone" out of some spots. It was dark and crowded and I didnt see it.

Out comes the delivery jagbag and he tells me this is a delivery guy loading zone (mind you I was still sitting in the car looking to see what the deal with the parking was). I said ok, no problem, just picking up, let me tell the GF what to order and I'll pull up. I didnt even have the opportunity to get out when a driver pulled up, double parked and blocked me in. I was given a dirty look and nasty exclamation of "delivery loading".

Needless to say, their staffs attitude was awful so we wont be back. I hope it goes out of business quickly and makes room for a place WITH customer service.

I have been sure to spread the world to fellow Loyola students/staff and will continue to do so.

Don't trust a guy named Pete to make good pizza.

If you like spongy, somewhat uncooked dough like from a frozen boxed $4 pizza and that icky sauce that's WAY too sweet, then THIS is FOR YOU!  I got a slice of pepperoni pizza, which was already made and sitting under the heat light.  It was heated for a minute or so, and then handed to me by some peppy human puppy like they have at Chic-Fil-A.  I walked ONE block home, and found it was not heated through.  The cheese was also not completely melted, like in one of those spongy-doughed frozen boxed horrors.

The "crust" -- and you can't really cal it that; "sponge cake" is more like it! -- was soggy, and not dry all the way through, with that sort of translucent look like bread before it's baked.  I brought my slice back, it was so bad.

The sauce was AWFUL, way TOO SWEET, but I have to give them credit where credit is due:  the pepperoni was OK.

You can get better pizza for HALF the price down Broadway at Foster.  And that place is a carry-out late-night LIQUOR STORE, for PETE's sake!!

If you like watching sheep-like students who would follow each other to a PLAGUE to look popular and in-the-know, fawning over the newest thing, then you'll find something to recommend this place.  But, as a friend pointed out, very sensibly, when you're on a corner with hundreds of dorm spaces within a few hundred feet, you do NOT have to be GOOD to get business.

Wow, I'm kinda surprised at the bad reviews. While this place isn't the greatest thing ever it is decent.

I stopped by the other day to place an order for pickup. The girls at the counter were friendly and efficient. I had some errands to run and said I'd pick up my pizza when I was done. A little over 45 min I walked in and my pizza was hot and ready to go!

I ordered a "personal" deep dish. How they expect one person to eat a 10 inch deep dish pizza is beyond me. This is for 2 people at the very least. Or one person if you want half a pizza left over for breakfast in the morning and then lunch too... I don't judge. Anyway the pizza was good. Not the best pizza I've ever had but not the worst either. Since they're close by I'm sure this won't be the last pizza I get here.

The perks of the pizza included the quantity of the "extras" that you order. I had chicken and mushroom. Usually this will mean a few pieces of chicken and a few mushrooms. I was pleasantly surprised to see that there was lots of chicken a a good amount of mushroom to balance it out. I feel like I got my money's worth.

There were a couple things I didn't love though. The first was the sauce, it's a very sweet sauce. I like a salty and/or savory sauce on my pizza. I'm not a big tomato or sauce person though so this may just be my issue. The other thing I noticed is that 10 inches is pretty small to do a deep dish pizza. The ratio of crust to toppings was about 50/50. I'm sure this wouldn't be a problem with a larger size, but it's something to consider.

I look forward to trying their other offerings in the future. I'm glad that this section of Edgewater is starting to become more trendy.

Ok I live in this area of Chicago for over twenty years and got to say I was happy that Pete's Pizza a Chicago landmark from the 1950's moved here.  I have not been back to the original location in many years as I recall it was located right behind the old Riverview amusement park on Belmont and Western Ave. My father would take us to Pete's for Lunch after the Cubs game. So I have great memories of the original locations food.

They are known for their famous thin crust pizza and there standard Chicago Pizzeria fair. My wife and I were very impressed that Pete's Pizza would Gut and remodel the space and invest quite a bit of money to build a new location.

Walking into this location it lacks that something that the original had; maybe it's just me. It feels like your stepping into a fast food cookie cutter Pizza place not a Chicago Pizza Joint and it could use a bit of a welcoming touch. It's missing that old school charm.

I'm a real die-hard pizza guy growing up mainly in Chicago. Got to say there Pizza by the slice is just horrible & barely passed and sunk to my stomach like a brick. I would have complained but I was hungry. Thank god they had a soda fountain so I could wash it down with three glasses of coke.

I really want to like this place as I'm a fan of anything Pizza, but the pizza buy the slice was burnt on the crust and the deep dish was burned cheese on the side and soggy. I know it's a tall order to heat up deep dish but come on use foil and some pan spray to heat it up.

On the deep-dish pizza: it was swimming in cheese maybe I would go into lactose shock or something but thank god I'm not lactose intolerant. Where was the so-called spinach in the pizza? It was a spinach and cheese pizza after all. A good pizza pie has to have a nice crust this one was burnt and crispy and soggy at the sometime! Wow how is that possible? How may you ask? Maybe because they let the pizza sit in the window for over an hour. How can I tell you may ask, the sauce was really dry on top. For god sakes if you're going to heat deep dish up use a convection microwave oven buy some of those wedge shape hot pans.

In all fairness I will give Pete's a few tries and sample more of the food like the soup and some salads. Over all it was ok but I was hopping that there pizza would blow me away like when I was a kid. Sorry to say who ever took over Pete's may just want to create a Pizza empire.

First off, I'm glad they're here.  Edgewater needs more dining / shopping options.  The interior is cute and the signage on the outside is great - it brings some much-needed life to that corner.

That said, I've had better pizza at Sbarro.  I'm not trying to be funny.  It's true.  I ended up pulling all the cheese off mine because the pizza wasn't good enough for me to waste all those calories.  I hope they'll continue to work on their recipe.

The slice of turtle cheesecake I split with my husband was damn tasty, I will say that.

Thanks for coming, Pete's.  Doubt I'll be back, but I hope you'll do well.

Pete's looks great on this corner.  They have half a dozen tables outside, and lots of seating inside.  Everyone I talked to inside and outside were helpful and friendly.  I really hope they make it.

The place has "pizza" in their name, but the pizza suffers from an existential crisis.  It doesn't know what kind of taste it intends.  We ordered the spinach deep dish and the thin crust sausage.  The crust was bland and soft.  The sauce was sweet and didn't have much seasoning.  You know how when you order a fast food burger, after you've had a few bites, you don't know what it is you are chewing?  I regret to report an analogous experience.

We also ordered the Caesar salad and the Tuscan chicken sandwich.  These showed nice touches:  house-made croutons and chips.  The chips were pretty addictive, actually.  All of the ingredients tasted fresh.

I hope Pete's prospers.  I recommend that Pete walk across the street to the famed Metropolis Coffee, sip on an espresso while staring introspectively out of the window, and ponder what kind of pizza a pizza should be.  When he has the answer, MAKE THAT PIZZA.

I visited the new location of Pete's Pizza in Edgewater yesterday. I've been watching the location closely since it's on my walk to the Granville Red Line station; I think it opened a few days ago.

What a pleasure to have a restaurant at that location! Outdoor seating, too.

I found the staff very pleasant and helpful. They're probably still working out some of the kinks, but if that's the case, I didn't notice.

As far as the product is concerned, I found it middle-of-the-road. Nothing remarkable either way.

I hesitate to say this because I'm delighted to have something substantial at that location, but for now it looks like a shaky proposition demographically. I wonder whether the neighborhood can support a place that charges close to $4 for a slice of so-so gourmet pizza. (My beverage wasn't cheap, either.)

Pete's seems like the kind of place that could thrive in an affluent location (city / suburb) with undemanding customers. Plop it in (say) Naperville and it would likely be a rousing success. Edgewater? We'll see.

And I'm being very kind with a 1 star rating.

If it wasn't the cook who rubbed his nose and sneezed into his hand 6 times in the first 10 minutes I had to wait (never washing his hands until I pointed it out to a manager- who seemed more concerned I saw it than that he actually did it).  The kicker for me was that it took 15 minutes to make my cheesesteak as a To Go order.  When I asked for it to be checked on, the person told me they were busy putting together Pick Up orders.  Well, I'm waiting for mine and I'm here now!

With 8 people working front of house, you'd think they could get it (anything) together enough to not look like fools.  Nope.

Gross and rude.  DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!

I really, really want to like this place. I stopped in and got a slice of thin crust sausage pizza. It is some of the worst I have ever had. It's doughy and the sauce is a tad sweet for me. Hopefully they will get better. This place has a ton of potential and I plan on going back to try some of their other menu items. However, if the rest of the menu is as bad as the pizza I had, I probably won't be coming back. Here's to hoping!

On a side not, one of these two stars is just because they have a nice selection of gelato and I think that's awesome. Also, everyone that works there is really nice and very friendly.

Ok, so I am being generous on the 2 stars because it is new...room to grow stars with growing pains. The problem is this is a new location from a long standing business and I am left baffled. So I stopped in on first day open (I know, shame on me). I walk up to the counter, and the three girls standing my the register just stand and look at me. No "Hi, welcome to Petes, may I take your order..." or something of the sort. So I instinctively, yet begrudgingly and with somewhat a snarky attitude ask the three young girls which one was gonna take my order. After two deciding the other would be better because of accepting credit cards (or maybe more like "Oh, you know how to do that part, so you go ahead!), I ordered a sandwich (dont recall which).

Fast forward what seemed like 15-20 minutes (fair estimate) my food is brought to me. What is plopped on my table is something not much unlike a sandwich packed into a ziploc baggie heading off to school in 3rd grade. Looked like homemade "Wonderbread", sorta tasted like it, and just a big few slices of turkey, twice thick bland cheddar cheese, some tomato, lettuce and some "mayo". Halfway through, because I was in deep though pondering my thus-far bad experience and my work I was doing on my laptop, I realized I didnt even get what I wanted! No bacon on Da Damn Sandwich! All the while, no management, no owner, noone coming around asking how everything was. You gotta kiss my ass, as a neighborhood professional, to give a first impression...pull out all the stops to impress.

I left unimpressed, wondering why, if ever, should I return again. This is a shame since I have been looking forward to something new in the hood. I shall try a few months down the road, and maybe a salad. Probably wont bother to try the pizza. I have Ginos North across the street. Why we needed another "pizza joint" in the hood is beyond me. But that's American Entrepreneurialism!
