encintias is way better. Â i hear the gluten free crust sucks, but the pizza it self is very good for american style pizza. Â and its cleaner then the other pizza place in ob which has dread lock nose pickers that are too high to know what a hand wash should be making your pizza, you know the place, it has the funny named pizzas and disgusting atmosphere. Â pizza port does me right.
Review Source:Pizza and beer is textbook good eats if you ask me and Pizza Port delivers on both fronts. With a great beer selection and tasty pizzas, this place is a staple for grubbing out and catching up with friends. The boyfriend and I had a large build-your-own pizza. The pizza arrived piping hot and although the crust was a tad thin in my opinion, it tasted delicious!
I've been to the Solana Beach locations a few times now and I prefer this one in OB. It feels more spacious than the SB location for some reason. I am also a fan of large communal tables. This Pizza Port's location is perfect for taking a stroll to the OB pier after your lunch or dinner.
Did I just walk into the Toy Story movie? This literally gives off the vibe of the pizza place in the movie Toy Story. All they need is The Claw with little green aliens dressed in blue.
Besides the cool Deja-Vu, the food is suuuper medicore.
After my first experience I had to give them another shot.
Now after my second time, I realized that the only reason I even considered going back was because of their spicy baked wings. They are freakin' to die for! SO good! "You can eat them naked" says the dipping queen herself.
But guess what...THEY RAN OUT OF THE WINGS ON MY SECOND VISIT! NOOOOOOO!!
So then I had to a chance to focus on how soggy and wet the bottom of my pizza crust was and the fact that my beer wasn't very cold. Meh.
I also don't know if I can totally blame them, but after the second visit my boyfriend and I got really sick. I figured it was something else until I ate the leftovers the next day and went through the same thing all over again. My boyfriend was smart enough to opt out on leftovers.
BUT if you're going to go, you HAVE to get the wings. That's if they have them...
BACON & EGGS is THE BEST Stout EVER!!!! Don't get too addicted, because it is a seasonal beer. And they only have it at this location. Otherwise, you'll be calling up Pizza Port like a crack addict every few weeks to see if they have it.... not that I know from experience. lol Anyways, If you love stouts/porters, order a pitcher, because a pint is just an appetizer and a tease, if you drink BnE like me. lol. I've had a few brews here and have not been disappointed. But we can all tell which is my favorite.
Pizza wise....YUM! All kinds. Our favorite here is the San Franciscan. Sooo bomb!
This is definitely a family environment as well, there's video games and there are plenty of picnic style tables to go around for large groups.
I've never had a bad experience here, the staff are very friendly and helpful.
High five Pizza Port OB!
I really don't get what the hype is over this place. I came during lunch and was immediately struck by how dark and crowded the place is. I could also smell undertones of bleach beneath the yeasty pizza aroma. I got the food/beer special. It's $5 for a beer and like an extra 75 cents for a slice of cold, greasy, doughy pizza and a sub-par salad. I have to say the beer (OB chronic) was really good. That's the only conceivable reason to come here.
Review Source:This is my go-to spot for an "on point" meal. Homemade beer and pizza. There is nothing better. The OB chronic beer, is my favorite. Its mild and goes well with the OB pizza. The pizza is loaded with veggies and bacon. The staff is friendly and happy. You can tell they genuinely like working there. TIP: they close the patio at 10pm, so no dogs after that.
Review Source:Love their $5 lunch specials, which always end up being about $8 for me, as I upgrade a buck to their Caesar Salad, and sometimes another buck to their pizza of the day, as the special only comes with plain cheese or pepperoni, which I love, but doesn't love me!
Garlic buddies...oh man...as anyone who eats here knows...it is CARB OVERLOAD HEAVEN! Totally worth it!
I'm not a beer drinker, but they are known for this and win lots of awards for their brews.
Fun outdoor patio, always packed.
This is my favorite pizza port since it is the biggest and the newest one. Love their whole wheat beer crust! I usually get the veggie garlic on the whole wheat beer crust with pepperoni on it. The portzels are great too. Casual place for a quick dinner, take out or dinner with a bigger group. Big selection of interesting beers and pizzas. Serve gluten-free pizza as well. Always crowded and not good if you are looking to have your private own table (long tables and benches to sit on) and a quiet dinner. Very kid-friendly!
Review Source:Without a doubt the best place to get a beer in Ocean Beach, save for OB Noodlehouse. Â You simply can't go wrong with a place that brews its own beer, plus there are always the guest beers from the other Pizza Port locations and various other breweries. Â Even today I found myself enjoying Victor from Allagash, while eyeing down 3 or 4 other beers I hadn't tried. Â I think it is the best of the 5 Pizza Port establishments, but I may be biased since I can walk to this one... Â The location is very convenient to Newport Ave in OB, and the interior still feels brand new. Â All the employees are very friendly and the service is attentive. Â I will say that I am not the biggest fan of the pizza simply due to price, but it is very good. Â There is also a dead zone of no slices from 3pm to 9pm that is slightly irritating. Â However, the lunch special (11am-3pm) is a great deal, and well worth it during the day. Â I love bringing the dog out on the patio on a warm sunny day on my way to or from the beach.
Review Source:pizza was good but kinda standard. Nothing about it blew my mind. Pitchers and pizza always go well together. Their beers were good but didn't get a chance to explore all of them. Atmosphere was great. I'm a big fan of picnic bench style seating, especially with pizza. All and all I was satisfied and wouldn't advice people to not go here, I've just had better. And if this were a rating on atmosphere alone I'd go 3point5 stars.
Review Source:Picnic bench style seating indoors, high bar stools on the outside patio great for people watching and hanging out. Indoors is loud, busy, lots of menu's and people buzzing about. I had sight & sound sensory overload. Fun atmosphere! Surfboards adorn these walls and flat screens. Had a slice of pizza and a big bowl of salad along w/ OB Chronic Beer which was excellent! It's light with a clean finish. Going back to try the rest of their own brews. Enjoyed the names of their items on the menu's
Review Source:Is it fair that I review this place because I had the gluten free pizza? I have only had it one other time at Fig Tree and it was pretty damn good there. So I say yes.
I am no expert it was OK i guess...you can't really taste the crust and it is so thin it barely supports holding the piece so you have to use a fork and knife. It only comes in a small for a reason.
The gf crust can not support much it's like using a cheap paper plate vs a thick one. We shared half the Ob and half meat monster. My side was the OB and would have been pretty decent if they didn't load so much salty feta on it which drowned out all the yummy veggies. It has butternut squash on it cut into the tiniest cute little chunks but really that didn't have flavor. It tasted mainly like peppers and feta. I did sneak some of Dan's sausage off the meat side when he was flirting with some Asian girls next to us and it was decent standard sausage.
I like the cafeteria style seating because it forces you to interact with others while dining which is fun to me, anti-socials will hate it. I loved the dear hunter game and the pinball.
Overall the pizza was a 2 and $13. The staff were nice, the beer line sucks and they did have one GF beer which was a cider basically and meh. Nothing beats a good gluteny beer.
Dan's home made chili and sausages earlier was a 4 and free. Who knew some guys can cook? Snatch him up ladies he is single!
Thanks Dan D. for trying my crappy GF pizza with me and making me GF food.
*swoon*
Although a somewhat tight space on the dog friendly patio, it was fun to take our dogs to Pizza Port for a spontaneous lunch after a long romp at Fiesta Island. Â Delicious Bronx Bomber IPA for moi and my pal really liked her No Surf Cream Ale!
There were about four other dogs hanging with their moms. Â Cool!
Gotta love Pizza Port. Â Great pizza; great beer selection; some very good reasonably priced wines and salads, too. Â Plus, for those times you don't have a babysitter, but want to go out and have an adult beverage and a bite to eat, it's a place you can go and bring the kids, and you feel like you've had the chance to go out, and they have fun, too -- everybody's happy -- not too many places like that. Â Like the community picnic table seating, the patio seating, and the little trinket and game machines that keep the kids occupied for a few minutes while you order your pizza and drinks.
I came here their grand opening night (even have grand opening T-shirt) and their pizza just keeps getting better. Â Our favorite (for both the kids and us) is probaby the cheese w/ pepperoni and sasuage, although the Monterey (pepperoni, onion, artichoke heart) is really good, too. Â The root beer is some of the best I've ever had.
This location previously seemed cursed (Java Joe's, that Boston bar, several others; I can't even remember them all now), but looks like (and we all hope) Pizza Port is here to stay!
Fabulous! Tried the Pizza Roma: Canadian style bacon, pepperoni, sausage, salami, onions, olives, bell peppers & mushrooms. It's one of their specialty pizzas. Like usually pizza is just pizza to me and it's quite hard to screw up bread, tomato sauce, cheese, and meat, but hands-down this place rocks! Everything just melted together so deliciously. The toppings were a nice heaping pile on top. I love a place that is not stingy with their ingredients. I don't know what it is about their flavor combos, but they sure know how to pack a lot of flavor. For once I actually ate the crust.
Review Source:Micro-brews up the wazoo and delicious pizza? What's not to love. I have now been to just about every Pizza Port and they are all great. Came here with my girlfriend and got a pizza (great sauce) and crushed some beers. There are always more that I want to try than I can safely drink which keeps me coming back.
If there was a Pizza Port in my neighborhood, I'd be there multiple times a week.
Pizza Port is my favorite pizza & beer joint. I fell in love with the Carlsbad location and was so excited when the OB location opened since it is waaaay closer to home. I love the Pizza Port beers and they have a great selection of other breweries as well. My perfect night is coming to Pizza Port after a softball game grabbing a pizza roma and a beer and call it a night!
Another great feature is that you can bring your dog out on the patio while you eat & drink. Love OB and the dog friendly environment!
I love pizza so much. Their Carlsbad pizza could possibly be my most favorite pizza of all time. My work always orders pizza from here for birthdays and other special occasions so I've tried a couple of different pizzas. But seriously, the Carlsbad has stolen my heart. It has chicken, pesto, artichokes, and feta. Such a great combination! A few days ago I had the privilege of picking up the pizzas for the first time so I got a chance to see the actual restaurant. From the outside it doesn't look big but the restaurant is pretty spacious. They have long benches and tables which is great for big parties. They have indoor and outdoor seating and even arcade games for the kids (or kids at heart). I would love to come back and sit outside on a beautiful, sunny San Diego day and enjoy some delicious pizza!
Review Source:When venturing to the free-spirited community that is Ocean Beach, Pizza Port prevails over all other eating (and drinking) establishments more often than not. And if it is local San Diego brewed beer that you seek, this place needs to be involved!
A multitude of beer styles are featured here, including gluten-free options...if you're into that sort of thing. Their exceptional selection of pizzas would make the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles proud. They're also known for their lunch special which includes a big salad with a dressing of your choice, and a slice of pizza, and a drink for less than $6. If you want a beer instead, it's just $1 more (just make sure it's one of THEIR beers).
The last tip I leave you is to try their beer float. Â It's a stout (or porter--can't exactly recall) over vanilla ice cream? "That's nuts and it possibly couldn't go well together" you say? You couldn't be more wrong and I suggest you start living dangerously and just try it.
Needless to say, I come here often and it's become somewhat of a staple for the Misses and I when we need comfort food. Yes, pizza and beer=comfort food. Take that, Paula Deen.
Came here after Dog Beach with MJ, who apparently had too much fun because she got sick all over the edge of the patio. I was mortified, but the guys came out right after to clean it up. They assured us that it wasn't a big deal, and made us feel like it was totally okay.
Customer service like this is unheard of, and this made us want to stick around a bit longer. Who doesn't love amazing pizza and beer?! We will definitely be back :)
Really good pizza. Â The beers are really good especially if you are into craft beer. Â They brew a large selection of different beers. Â If your in the mood, try a flight of their different beers.
It is mostly street parking which can be a little difficult at times depending on time of day. Â They have a really small lot which every time I come by is always full.
The only thing I am not a fan of is the open seating table concept. Â It is not I do not like to talk to other people, I just find it hard to fine and reserve a place when it is one or two people. Â One has to save a place while the other has to run to the counter to pick everything up.
Overall this is a cool place for pizza and beer without having to drive up the I-5.
This is by far some of the best pizza you can get in San Diego. I've tried many of their specialty pizzas and they are all top-notch. Pizza Port also has a great selection of beer. They brew their own which are all really good and they have a rotating guest beer selection that are always the best.
This place definitely gets BUSY so be prepared to wait if you're going on a Friday or Saturday. The parking lot is also pretty small so you may have to park it on the street and walk over to it, which is the case with almost any restaurant in OB anyways. This place is really worth the effort.
Also a must have: Beer Buddies!!!
Amazing beer selection--if you're into beer. Â :)
The pizza is great! Â Really good sauce and the pizza doesn't seem as greasy as a lot of other pizza I have had. Â They have their own specialty pizzas or you can build your own. Â You can also buy certain kinds of pizza by the slice, but I caution you that from what I saw the by-the-slice pizza is NOT the same as the pizza you get when you order a full pie. Â It was very flat and generic-looking.
I like the set up here--they have the picnic bench-style seating, which is nice. Â Good for families, good for dates, good for friends, good for ball games. Â YAY!
How do I love Pizza Port? Let me count thee ways. Pizza & Beer and Beer & Pizza.
Love the neighborhood vibe and the family-style atmosphere of the picnic tables inside. Always a fan of Port Brewing Beers, and no place better than the source. I love all the pizza options, though we usually create our own (pepperoni, sausage, and mushrooms)!
There's gourmet options and basic options, you can make any pizza topping combination to fit your heart's desire. A Large Size can usually feed 2 people for a few days. Leftovers!! If you're extra hungry, order the garlic buddies as a starter!
Always a busy place, so place your order, stake your claim for seating and enjoy a beer (and send the kiddies off with a couple dollars in quarters to the couple of video games) and wait for your pizza. There's TV's to catch up on your sports as well and usually your picnic table buddies are friendly, it is Ocean Beach after all.
Worth the drive to beach anytime :)
Look, I come here solely for the beer. It's amazing and if you're a beer lover, definitely check this place out, regardless if you like pizza.
That being said, they also have amazing pizza. The atmosphere is that of an old school pizza parlour, with long tables and families who come for pizza and beach time. There's also a great outdoor seating (bar like) where you can watch folks walk by on their way to OB.
My favorite thing to do is get a beer, sit at the bar and start talking with other beer drinkers. Or one of the employees.
Note: usually quite a long line for beer and they have a pretty strict policy of requiring an ID for every beer you order. Kind of annoying, but given the young crowd that frequents the place, not surprising.
Solidly good pizza at a reasonable price. But I've been spoiled with pizza by a different pizzeria, so I think the vast majority of people would say Pizza Port pizza is absolutely great.
Lots of seating, including outdoor, but its basically long benches of self seating like at a high school cafeteria, so if you go on a busy day, you might have to do some squishing and hovering over other people to get good seats.
I was with a younger friend when I went, so I did not order any beer, but I noticed there was a huge selection of it, and that the line for beer was basically out the door, which the line for the food was 1-2 people.
Wing wednesday! 35 cent wings, but there's only one flavor. They're pretty good though, and not spicy though the name suggests otherwise.
Pizza Port is a must for any beer lover in the San Diego area and they make a pretty damn good pizza as well. The location is perfect for a day of beer, bites of pizza, and beaches, which is exactly what my friends and I did that day.
As I walked in, the first thing I noticed was the laid back ambiance. It truly exuded the beach feel with its patio and park benches for seating.
If you come in a group and decide to share a pizza over their $4 Pizza, Beer, and salad deal, i recommend one person order the pizza through the food only line. It was significantly shorter than the beer plus food line.
Once we settled on the Pizza Ocean Beach and Pizza Lahaina (essentially Hawaiian Pizza), it was time to decide on a beer, which was a much harder decision since there were so many good Pizza Port Brews and Guest Brews on tap.
The one that caught my eye was the Bacon and Eggs Coffee Imperial Porter. Also, I may have been in a drunken haze from all the drinking I did with my cousins on the bachelor part, but I swear there was bourbon aged of the aforementioned, but my fact checking has come up empty. Well if it really happened, I remember it being out of balance from the bourbon aging.
I have read some people being confused on the flavor profile of the Bacon and Eggs expecting it to have bacon and eggs flavoring, but from what I tasted I believe it is just the name to the beer. With that out of the way, the bacon and Eggs Coffee Imperial Porter was probably the best beer I had in SD. It was rich in coffee followed by some chocolate notes. It was very well balanced porter.
As for the pizza, both were spot on, but if I were to recommend one, it would be the Pizza Ocean Beach. It was my favorite.
Next time, I am in San Diego; I will certainly come back to this location.
Pizza and Beer. Two of my favorites!
This place is pretty amazing. The selection of both pizza and beer are incredible. The FLAVOR of the pizza was TO.DIE.FOR! I was full after one piece but it was so good that I just had to eat another....
Loved the selection of beer too. From their own to their guests....there were tons of choices. I stuck to trying THEIR beer which was awesome. We sat at the bar so got really good up close and personal service. The bartenders were so helpful and patient with us too. I had a few questions about trying different beers and they were FABULOUS with making sure I was satisfied with my choices.
We will be back!
An IPA, pizza and salad to accompany a 75 degree day? Yes please! We got to taste
several of the brews before settling on ours.
The guy helping us out was a super chill dude from Maine. I liked his attitude and demeanor so much I was compelled to grab a shirt and two pint glasses. Well played cool, bearded, Mainer...well played
