If you looking for a classic old fashion steak place. This is the place to be. Restaurant on the border of New Jersey and New York. A very nice cigar lounge and bar with nice leather chairs. Smoking is also allowed in the bar. Very good bartenders and servers. Food is really good. Don't worry about the smoke, the main dining room is non-smoking. Excellent selection of menu items.
Review Source:I'm giving this a five because I like cigars and steak.
This place should be more than 3 stars. Â
I admit only a certain clientele should be coming here. Â It is really smoky and feels like a dungeon at times, but great if you want a night out with your boys. Â
Solid steak. Â Great burger. Â Good whiskey menu. Â Awesome cigar bar. Â
The steak sauce is AMAZING. Â
If you have a wife, or girlfriend, or kids... you probably shouldn't bring them here for family dinner. Â But as a spot to hang out with your friends, it's five stars. Â Servers are really nice and attentive as well.
If I could give half stars, it would have been a 3.5, but I didn't want to take the .5 away, so I added it. Â The food is just "OK" for the prices - Â nothing to rave about. Â I think they are able to charge a higher price due to the fact that they are pretty much the only restaurant in the area that allows smoking. Â I had the Mizo Glazed Cod - a nice piece of fish, but the sauce the noodles were a little salty. Â Hubby had the NY Strip which was a little tough, but it was "OK". Â My husband is a cigar smoker, so we were fine with the fact that people were smoking (mostly cigarettes, but we sat outside, since it was a nice night - went inside to use the bathroom, walked by the 'smoking section' inside and it wasn't horrendous - it IS a cigar bar, after all). Â Our servers were excellent (we had a male server, who let us know that his shift was ending and that Kate would take over - both were exceptional - very personable, attentive, and friendly). Â We stayed for about 2 hours, eating dinner, had a couple of beers, then hubby bought a cigar (which usually takes 20-30 minutes to smoke), while I had a scotch (not a big scotch drinker, but it seemed like the right thing to do!) Â ~Good scotch/whiskey choices~ Â We never seemed rushed and felt like valued guests (the manager was present and stopped at each table to see how everything was)....nice touch. Â We'll be back....
Review Source:The Porter House is a solid steakhouse, especially if you want to stay in the Bergen/Rockland area. Â Remember, you did this for convenience, you're not running to Peter Luger's in the city. Â If you remember that, you'll have a good experience.
I was in with my family - my dad and I split the Porterhouse, which is a pretty manageable portion for 2 - nicely cooked and charcoaled on the outside. Â Others at the table got the NY Strip and the cod, and everyone had similar reviews - solid, but nothing fantastic. Â Prices are steakhouse-level high, but not unreasonable.
This place also features a cigar lounge, which is probably great and all if you're there for the cigar lounge, but not ideal if you aren't. Â The dining room is relatively smoke-free, and didn't noticeably affect our experience, but you'll probably smell a bit like smoke afterwayrds.
Atmosphere is otherwise really nice, as is the outdoor seating area. Â Service is good, though they were slow to refill water.
THERE'S A YELP SPECIAL HERE! Â Free dessert with a check-in. Â I considered a 4th star for convenience and the free dessert, but this place is A-OK.
I was in the area for business and wanted good food, a few beers and a smoke. Â Yelp steered me to The Porter House and I was not disappointed.
I can't help having a little contempt for people who go to a place with a pub called "The Montecristo Lounge" then bitch about it being smoky. Â It's a cigar lounge, McFly. Â When I walked in it was about 60% filled as it was dinner time and the Rangers playoff game was about to start. Â I could tell they allowed smoking, but the ventilation system was doing a great job - as it did for the duration of the evening. Â I was approached by the bartender as soon as I sat down and she got a Guinness started for me while I went to look at the cigar selection.
Most bars/restaurants that sell cigars jack the price up by 100-200% for retail sale. Â I had my own sticks, but the $10 cutting fee convinced me to see what they had to offer. Â There was a nice selection of cigars in their large wall humidor including the standard Montecristos, R&J's, Ashtons and Padrons. Â What I was amazed to see was a selection of Padron Anniversarios including 1926's and 1964's. Â I selected a modest La Aroma de Cuba Mi Amor Belicoso, which ran $13.25. Â I could conceivably get one of these - in bulk - from an online retailer for about 8 bucks a stick, so they charged a very reasonable retail price. Â It was in great condition and smoked perfectly. Â Well done, guys.
Upon the bartender's recommendation I started with an appetizer of  six Blue Point Oysters for $13.  They were great and came with an interesting shallot, jalepeno and vinegar sauce that really complimented them.  I normally douse oysters with horseradish and Tobasco, so this subtle sauce really balanced well with the Blue Points.  Also recommended was the fish and chips.  I really hate when places bread the hell out of fish, so I was pleasantly surprised when they came out very lightly breaded, not greasy and perfectly prepared.
I had a great time at The Porter House watching the Rangers game (sorry they lost, folks), talking to the nice folks around me and enjoying really good food and a nice smoke. Â If this kind of thing appeals to you, definitely give The Porter House a try. Â I will definitely be back when business brings me back to the area.
We had dinner in the back area, the Montecristo Lounge. Â The bartenders were very attentive, offered beer samples, and recommended a fantastic burger. Â The Montecristo Lounge also has a nice selection of scotch, beer and other fine liquors, as well as, again, that patty melt, which was cooked medium rare as requested and not burnt to hell which elsewhere happens all too often. Â The decor is also really cool - it is set up like an old fashioned grocery and pharmacy with old-tyme products lining the shelves. Â Very dark, classy and cozy. Â If you're so inclined, you can also light up a fat stogie during your meal.
Review Source:I've been here a few times now, and it's fine. Not outstanding, but not bad either. The food is above average for a bar, and really quite tasty.
The only real downside is that there is still a smoking area inside. Because of the layout of the building, the non-smoking area still reeks of the smell of cigarette smoke. It's great when it's warm enough to sit outside, but even that's a gamble because you never know when someone is going to light up at the next table.
My fiancé and I were at our good friend's house in Montvale and he was in the mood for steak and Porter House it was. Â
Our waitress had a very strong personality and wasn't very warm, but I can't say she was cold either. Â She provided much side laughter whenever she left our table and a bit of confusion as to why she was so 'strong'.
Food - I loved the steak tartar and skirt steak.  The soup special (spicey cream of mushroom) was ok and could have certainly done without.  My fiancé got the ribeye and he wasn't too impressed with it.
FYI - via Yelp, you can get a free dessert for checking in. Â Only ONE per table! Â This should be specified somewhere!
Had a early dinner with my son on a Friday night. Â Pleasant and nice environment. Â Our Server was James, great guy who knows his food! Â Recommended the Filet Mignon and for desert the Apple crisp. Â He was spot on with his recommendations, enjoyed every fork full. Â He made our man's day out so much more pleasant and his service was top notch. Â Will definitely be back.
Review Source:I had been to the restaurant in Northvale several times before it closed, and it was always ok - so when my husband and I were looking for a lunch spot, I expected this to be the same.
We walked in and were seated in the dining area which REEKED of smoke. Â I didn't know that the place had a cigar bar, so the fact that smoking was permitted at all took me by surprise, but I still feel they need to do a better job of isolating the dining area because it was so overpowering and so disgusting. Â I actually wish we had left, instead of ordering.
My husband ordered the cobb salad, which was nothing special, but fine I guess.
I ordered the Grilled Chicken Panini which the chef completely burned on one side, and then decided to try and hide by putting the less cooked side up. Â As if I wasn't going to notice that half of my sandwich was completely charred. Â The sandwich was also totally bland despite supposedly having red curry aioli on it. Â I only ate about 1/4 of my meal.
We got the check and got out of there as fast as we could, and will not be going back.
My wife and I just got back from a horrible experience at The Porter House. They falsely advertised a "To Hell with the Snow 50% Off". It was written incorrectly, making one feel it was 50% off food items, beverages and alcohol. I suggest the restaurant go back and read this offer again. This was something we asked our waiter about prior to ordering, who said today was 20% off food items. When I showed him myiPhone with the 50% off email, he was surprised and seemed to be told something different from management. Nonetheless, he said we would get 50% off the food which we were happy with...until the bill came. He didn't take the 50% off the bill, and it took him 3 times redoing the bill, and me having to take out three of their menus, for him to finally get it right. When the waiter asked if I wanted to see the manager, I said yes...but the manager never came/addressed my concerns. What should have been a relaxing, fun experience, turned into a stressful, embarassing experience. We will join our friends who already boycott this restaurant due to less than desirable ways management treats their/pays their, employees.
Review Source:It had been years since I'd been here, but I still remembered the great food. It was the perfect choice the other night when a friend and i decided we felt like having steak for dinner. At first I was a bit upset to see they have a cigar bar up front, but honestly, i didnt smell any smoke back in the dining room. The filet migon was terrific and cooked just as i requested. Our server, Alanna was friendly and efficient. It is a bit pricey here, but i did get a second meal out of the filet. and the vanilla creme brulee was excellent for dessert. I recommend this place for a great steak.
Review Source:My co workers and I were in Montvale for a training with Mercedes Benz. One of the trainers recommended this place and I am glad he did! I grew up in the restaurant business in NY and Boston. The very beautiful blonde hostess was very kind and accommodating, as we were a little out of sorts given the new surroundings and long day of training, she must have seen we were a little dysfunctional and took control with a smile and kind personality. Â I found the steaks to be perfectly cooked, our Server Adam was just great! I could tell he had been flat seated and yet he kept smiling and worked right through it despite the flat seating and a couple small glitches that were not his fault! Good job all!! =)
Review Source:After going to this place for two years, it will be a while before we return. Â We always ordering cheeseburgers for dinner in the restaurant part (not the bar). Â Tonight we ordered 3 cheeseburgers but what we received was 3 huge burgers with cheese, bacon, onion rings, an everything else - at a price almost twice the regular cheeseburger. Â When asked, we were told that we should have specified that we wanted pub burgers. Something we never had to do in the last 2 years. Â Be careful.
Review Source:I really like this place A LOT.
So why the 2 stars u ask?
Perhaps it was just an off night, sure it was a Friday night and they were very busy. It really seemed like they were understaffed.
It started off on the wrong foot. Took about 10 minutes for the waitress to take our drink order.
I ordered a beer flight, my partner ordered a pint of porter.
We ordered an app with the drink order, mozz sticks.
Fast forward about 15 minutes. Drinks arrive. No app yet.
We give our dinner order. Partner went w the fish n chips which were excellent last time, a week previous. Crispy beer battered cod fillets, with crisp fries ie chips.
I went with the so called "ultimate burger" medium rare, with cheddar and thick smokey bacon on a seeded toasted brioche bun.
We then waited.
Drank a bit.
Waited some more.
The beers were great by the way.
Continued to wait for the app, 25 minutes after we had given the dinner order still no app.
And time kept on passing.
I can't tell u how the app was since they never brought them to us. Strike.
45 mins later
No app, food finally made it to us.
I am an optimistic kinda guy, I always tell myself great things come to those who patiently wait.
.
Well if u love ur burger cooked to the point it looks like ur aunt Gertrude's mystery meat road kill meat loaf then this could surely be considered a great thing.
Unfortunate for me I am not a fan of dry overcooked hamburgers and was really let down by the ultimate burger.
Ultimate crap between a crap bun. It was so dry that I couldn't get past half of it.
I was really unhappy. The hostess came by and Asked how was everything. I said great other then the fact I ordered it 3 temps below then it was cooked to.
She agreed it was way over cooked and offered to cook me a new one. I didn't want to wait for a new one while my partner ate his dinner.
The waitress then stopped for a sec and asked how everything was just to run off b4 I could answer.
15 mins later, she came by again, and played stupid. She asked how everything was again, so I pointed to the burger and presented it to her and asked her what would she say the done ness was on the burger.
She hesitated to answer and said kinda medium to medium rare. Don't play dumb lady, u and I both know it's drier then the Sahara, it was beyond well done. She then confessed that the hostess told her about the burger.
This is what really ticked me off and thought it really was awful service.
The waitress was told I was given a bad burger, yet she never once came by to apologize or to see what she could do, instead she decided to play stupid like it never happened.
She then said it was completely taken off the bill.
The bill came and actually only 50% of the $15 ultimate burger was taken off. For 7.50 it was still an ultimate rip off.
My 5.50 5 guys burger from last night was hundreds of times better then this ultimate atrocity.
I was really let down big time tonight. ESP since I have heard such great things about the burger, ESP from well known food blogger tommy eats.
One another note, last week they had the best special ever, two new England style lobster rolls for about $20 bux a really awesome deal.
The rolls were packed with a ton of big chunks of tail and knuckle meat, they were really amazing and u could tell super fresh, just cooked that day lobster, with lemon, salt, pepper, celery and light on mayo. It was really good, almost as good as u get in Boston, only thing that let me down was that it was not on a new England style hot dog bun.
Other then that it was great.
Due to the greatness of that lobster roll I am willing to give them another shot, until they can knock me out of my socks, it stays at two stars.
Until then, we shall see.
This place gets 1.5extra star points for allowing smoking both indoors and outdoors. Â How you ask ? Â Cigar bar- Â love it. Â We always sit outside because even though I smoke, and it IS A CIGAR BAR and anybody who goes should expect it and deal with it without being a nag....if you go to a cigar bar and have beef w smokers, its your problem that you chose a cigar bar, and pushing your views on the smokers there makes you short of manners, common sense, and failure to check your reality that u have no place starting sh*t w ppl to impose your choices on others like a bullying tyrant, I personally do not like to smoke right next to somebody who is eating, or by a child or woman whos preggers is just rude.......but the fact I CAN smoke without getting up is a bonus and rare novelty much appreciated. Â The inside of the pub has all.oldskool features, with a saturated smell of sweet aromatic cigars and fresh beer flow.....its a nostalgia moment in a pub that actually smells like a pub should. Â Good hearty food, wood, and tobacco.
Weve come a few times now, theres always a vibrant buzz to the place with a mixed crowd. Â Theres is a large indoor dining room, bar. Huge humidorg and nice outdoor patio. Â The patio on the right evening just makes all the difference in mood and experience on a nice night. Â Outdoor seating like this isnt ver common in NNJ.
The tap list changes often. Â They have some solid resident ales, and some rotating taps. Â Always fresh, and the staffis always helpful w beer info usually. Â Women beer geeks.....a lady who knows her ale n brings a pkate of pork belly..... is a lady that can give me str8 thoughts.
Tonite being a nice night w a breeze we sat outside, we walked in about 7:30 on Saturday and were seated right away.
We started off w a simple motzarella sticks and a pint of Defiant brewery porter. Â The sticks were good, the sauce wasnt perfect, but def passable for an irish pub.
The sticks were followed by the fish n chips (w onion rings) and an order of lobster rolls w sweet potato fries and we each got a pint of the new Riverhorse "heiffer-wiezen". Â The fish was really good. Â Cooked just right to.golden crispy n perfect flakey cod cooked just right. Â The onion rings were good.....the tartar sauce was a little lacking n mayoish, but worked w the fish.....i still maintain that the best tartar sauce is at seafood gourmet of maywood.
Onto the lobster rolls, we wouldnt normally order this at a pub, esp one not in boston, Â ut we saw somebody else's order and it looked good, so we went for it. Â It comes w two PACKED traditipnal split top butter fried rolls w celery, chopped tomato, and a mayo dressing that was suprisingly light. Â It was not greasy at all from the butter. Â The meat- claw, nuckle, n tail was coo aked just right- firm, yet delicate and very fresh with a nice hit of lemon. Â The rolls overall were a total success anc we will def order them again ! Â These rolls r.packed enough that one order is lunch for 2, we split both dishes. Â The sweet potato fries were tasty, coulda been more crispy tho. The new Riverhorse heffe special seasonal reserve was GREAT! Â This recipe is brand spankin new and was very nicely carbonated n ultra creamy, very cloudy w a prominent flavor of hon and wheat. Â Very well balanced, light 'n creamy. Â A perfect brew to go with the seafood and weather. Â I hope to see this brew again.
We had a yelp.offer for a free desert but we were stuffed.
Service was extremely friendly, knowledgable of the menu and bar items, handled special requests flawlessly and had very welcoming and fun senses of humor. Â Things can be a teeeeeny bit slow outside, but worth the extra 5 min wait.
This restaurant is pretty unique for its novelty grandfather claused old style pub rules, Â being built in the mid 1800's, we think the old way of a smoky pub is apropriate......NJ is a very historical state, our society as colonial and early republican began of assembly in taverns and pubs, and this should be preserved in at least a few places.
We will def be back. Â If your in the area, wantin a beer AND a smoke, or just wanna check it out we suggest it whole heartedly n remember, dont question the lobster monstah rolls, worth every penny. (25$ for two huge packed rolls).
ALL in all, check ca to 70$ (25$ beer), BUT WORTH a great meal n brews outside on a great summer's eve.
We really wanna try the brunch.
This is how a contemporary pub should be.
Other than steaming plate of rotting fish that was served up at lunch-which was quickly removed from the bill....the wraps, salads, and steak sandwich were awesome. Â The food quality here has improved recently and I woul give it a higher rank if it wasn't for the bad fish and chips. .
Review Source:Always looking to eat somewhere good when I visit my family in NJ. Went there for a second time recently with my husband and two kids. The decor and atmosphere is good; just like an Irish Pub should be. The thing that bothers me is they try to be casual & formal at the same time and my opinion is; it isn't working. For the quality of food the prices are too high. My husband had a Sirloin steak and it was all fat and overcooked. Salmon was a little fishy too. Kids are definitely not welcome, I sensed that from our server and the host. Unless you want your party inhaling secondhand smoke & paying for overpriced food, I would not recommend this place.
Review Source:So, I made it back here to give it another try. This time we were able to order from the regular dinner menu and I wish we didn't because the food was not as good as the first time. Fortunately Pete was our waiter again, so service was good. Our salads were good, but the entrees were a different story. I ordered the cowboy steak medium rare and it came medium. The steak itself was pretty tough, and the veggies were cold. I won't be going back here again.
Review Source:Smoke 'Em if you got em....'cause if you don't smoke, you will not enjoy the bar area of this place...
Ok... been here twice. The first time, we called ahead to ask what time the kitchen was open until... we were told 11pm...when we got there at 10pm, we were told that they were only serving the bar menu....would have been nice to have been told that before we drove 25 minutes to get there. Â Food was ok, and our server Pete was very attentive.
2nd time... we sat in the cottage area... it was very smokey... not a surprise, because this is a cigar bar as well...but, it was a little tough to enjoy our meal while sitting around folks enjoying their stogies.
First course - we both had salads...they were fine. Â Second course- I tried the Beef Wellington... it was ok...but the filet mignon was not the best cut of meat I've ever had. My BF ordered the Cowboy Steak medium rare...it was served medium. Â On top of that, both of our sides (mashed potatoes and broccoli rabe) were cold. Our server Pete was great, and remembered us from the last time we were there- a nice touch.
I'm not sure I will return here for a steak again, but the place is great for a cocktail and  to enjoy a nice cigar.
We went there with the promise of something different close to town. I had major issues with the service, the speed and the accuracy of the menu. I ordered a "Crab Martini with herb aioli" I got a bowl of lump crab meat with a side of jar cocktail sauce. My steak was utterly forgettable and in the area there are much better options. I probably won't be back. Promises big but delivery poorly :-(
Review Source:Had a family birthday dinner here tonight and was fairly happy with how everything went. Â They have a nice outdoor area, and a smoking section inside (even though I don't smoke, I still thought it was kind of cool).
The food was decent. Â I was kind of unhappy with the clams I got, as they were pretty full of shell bits, but the taste was good, and I managed to not crack any teeth. Â The filet mignon was buttery and delicious, and the prime rib was equally tasty. Â I had viewed their menu online, and was concerned about their prices, but when we arrived, we were given both the menu I saw online and another menu with more moderately priced food, as well as the specials, which also looked great for their prices. Â
They have a good beer selection and the service was certainly not bad.
I wasn't particularly overwhelmed by anything, which is why I gave it 3 stars, but I definitely don't have anything bad to say. Â I would go again, although I would be likely to try somewhere new before going back.
This place is another one of my favorite places for a good steak, but doesn't beat out my other steak places.
The staff here is absolutely pleasant and the dining room is decorated perfectly. While the menu can be a bit pricey the food is absolutely wonderful.
The most amazing feature about this place is the bar. If you go for the dining aspect, see if you can sit in the bar room. Otherwise you'll be seated in the dining area. A word of caution, the bar room is for cigar smokers, one of the last few places left in Jersey. The bar is absolutely an amazing place to sit and admire the wood work. The Guinness is poured absolutely perfectly, and I've never had a bad pint there ever!
Add this to your list of places to try!
What a wonderful atmosphere...it like stepping into a upper Eastside restaurant with fireplace and live piano on the dining room side and thru the cave like hallway you enter a fun lively Irish pub!
Steak was on the menu for my birthday dinner...2 of us had the prime rib (beyond yummy) - one had lamb chops and the other devoured the filet mignon...a la carte sides included  baby asparagus, creamed spinach and baked potatoes all around...of course, Gregg had soup before dinner - a wonderfully creamy seafood chowder that neer had a chance of survival in front of him...
Dessert  there was no room for; but Judey & I did discover a wonderful martini named the Porter Pink- Chambord, baileys and raspberry vodka...divine!!
This review pertains only to the Sunday brunch. Â One word: FANTASTIC.
For $20 you get a brunch that includes:
Omelet station
Bagels w/ lox, capers, etc.
French toast
Salads
Caprese salad
Bacon, sausage
Potatoes
Eggs Benedict
Pastries
Pasta w/ clams
Carving station (prime rib when I was there)
Salmon
Chicken (breaded in a cream sauce when I was there)
Veggies
... and I'm probably missing a few things!
Brunch comes with coffee, tea, mimosas or orange juice.
True, nothing was the best of its kind that I've ever had. Â And yes, the egg in the eggs benedict was slightly overdone. Â However, the variety and price were fantastic, and everything was certainly yummy. Â The dishes were constantly refreshed so nothing ran out, and the service was excellent. Â I will absolutely be back.
The beer selection at the Porter house is pretty good. A smattering of local micro-brews with the usual pub selection. The food is nothing special. I had the the steak sandwich and it was a disappointment for a place that is considered a steakhouse.
The bar is decorated with the typical generic Irish pub trinkets, but its nicely done. What blew me away was the fact that I was the only person in the bar not smoking. I can't tell you the last time I walked into a bar that allows smoking. Its hard to eat when the townies to the right and the left of me are chainsmoking Marb reds.
Good bar for hanging out with friends and watching a game. Â Beer and drinks are normal priced so I wouldn't go in here expecting any sort of a deal. Â The food is delicious but a bit pricey. Â The lunch menu is OK though.
Just as a warning to those affected by smoking... it's allowed inside.
This is my local watering hole, perfect pints, cigars, and steaks, what more can you ask for? Friendly staff and great atmosphere make this place our goto place for drinks and smokes.
Shepherds pie, chicken pot pie, fish and chips, guinness beef stew are all must tries. Food here is excellent.
I hadn't had a great experience dining inside previously, but our server yesterday was friendly and attentive, and a burger came out perfectly medium with some great thick-cut fries: soft like mashed potatoes on the inside, with a great crunchy exterior. Crab and shrimp parcels weren't as great: dry and a little chewy.
All in all, the outside area is a good place to stop for a beer (Defiant Muddy Creek, brewed less than a mile away!), and some food on a sunny afternoon.
The thing with The Porter House is that you have to know what to order, where to sit, what time to go and stick with it. Â It's all a matter of personal preference.
My boyfriend is crazy about their burgers - he orders his medium well with cheddar cheese and sauteed onions. Never has a problem and thorougly enjoys his food. Â While I haven't always had the same luck (I switch around a lot on the menu), I've found the quesadilla with guacamole a safe bet (quesadilla in an irish pub? whatevs)
I would not recommend for kids - I dont think their menu/facility (main dining room or bar) is geared towards children at all.
As 20 somethings, we find the best part of the place is the bar area, and by the evening hours it is packed; its a good, low key, night atmosphere to grab a beer with friends. Â They have a great selection of on tap beers and the bar tenders are always friendly and good to work with (that is, once you reach them. Like I said, it gets busy). Â They also have Happy Hour food: mozz sticks and something else, I forget. Â Try it. Â Also - this is a smoking bar! so watch out if smoke is something you can't stand. Â They are a certified cigar bar which is why they can get around the law of no smoking in restaurants.
If you're looking to do lunch, the outside terrace is nice, but inside seating in the bar room is good too. Â If you're looking for a more upscale menu over bar food, then definately proceed straight into the main dining room and skip the bar completely. Â When you're in the bar area, make sure you get the right menu: sometimes they give you the main dining room menu which you can order off of, they also offer a bar menu. Â The main dining room menu can go into the bar, but they won't let you sit in the main dining room and have bar food.
Like I said, find something that fits for you, and you'll come to love The Porter House. Give it a few more tries, it will grow on you.
I like The Porter House. Â Is it the best steak you will have in the area? No. Â But when you add everything else up, it is just a kick ass place. Â They have a pub seating area and a formal dining area. Â They have daily specials and they're all usually pretty good. Â I've had their salmon, all different cuts of steak, bunch of appetizers, etc and have never been disappointed. Â Their bar is awesome and they usually have live music. Â They also have outdoor seating and heating lamps for when it gets a little cooler out. Â The only thing I don't like is that people can smoke inside.. ick.
Review Source:So, we decide to come here for lunch today because we wanted to be able to sit outside on such a beautiful day. We ordered a burger, mahi mahi sandwich and a turkey ruben wrap. Our service was pretty slow (very surprising since it wasn't jam packed) and the waiter was not the most attentive.
As far as the food is concerned, it was okay. There was really nothing much to it. My wrap was basically turkey, cheese and cole slaw wrapped up in a (surprise surprise) wrap. The fries that I ordered were okay. After seeing what the kettle chips looked like, I wish I stuck with them over the fries.
My friends mahi mahi sandwich looked good, but she said it was okay, but not the best she ever had. My other friends burger again looked simple, no frills to it.
Yuki isn't open for lunch on weekends...we learned the hard way.
So, since the weather was so nice we decided to have lunch on the outside patio of The Porter House. Â We have dined here several times in the past for both lunch and dinner, inside and outside.
Started with an unsweetened iced tea. Â Powdered. Â Strike One.
Ordered my burger medium rare. Â Well done. Â Strike Two.
Wife had chicken on kaiser roll. Â Stale roll. Â Strike Three.
There were two positive notes. Â The buffalo wings were excellent. Â Second, the house made potato chips that came along with my wife's sandwich were great.
