So, This place is great YES.. but the City of Emeryville has made parking in this neighborhood pretty much impossible. Everyone trying to do business here except the big studio is completely handicapped by the parking regs, and once you do buy a city of E permit for your employees you may as well roll down the window and throw out the money while you're rolling because you sure as heck cannot park!
Review Source:This bar is what it is and not one that I will frequent. Â My husband was designated driver and asked for a diet coke and the bartender...excuse me..."Mixologist"... looked at him like he just fell out of the sky. Â He wasn't very friendly in explaining that they do not have a soda system and suggested he have a water without offering him any other alternative. Â As for me, I ordered a dirty martini, which I would gladly pay $10 for (and I did) but nothing about it knocked me off my feet. Especially the olives that had the pits still in them and the cordial-sized glass it came in. Â If I pay another $10 can I get olives with no pits and the other half of my drink?
Review Source:I really love Prizefighter. I come here pretty regularly and it's always a good time no matter what day of the week it is.
The crowd is different every time I drop by. Some nights, it's almost all people in their 30's-40's. Other nights, there is a lot more young blood. I've never really seen this place at capacity but I definitely appreciate elbow room.
The appearance of the bar is quite impressive and the cocktail selection is extensive. Think moscow mules or top shelf liquor, not Red Bull and mystery vodka. In this case, $9 per cocktail is a fair price because the bartenders actually know what they're doing. They do take their sweet time while making drinks but the outcome is superb. Typically, I am just a straight whiskey drinker but when I come here, I am a bit more adventurous. As of late, my favorites are the whiskey apple soda and the Tennessee rye ball.
The interior is spacious. Plenty of seating and space to mingle. I definitely favor the patio seating. I pretty much flock to any bar that has an outdoor area. There are working heat lamps, a hipster friendly bike rack built inside of the fence, and you can smoke if you wish. Dogs are welcome, which is a huge plus. I've seen some really adorable pets here.
The music ranges from ambient electronic to indie rock favorites. Definitely not a dance-y location, which thrills me to no end. If you care about shuffleboard, they have one and it looks like it's in pretty good condition. The bathroom is well maintained and there is plenty of parking around the block.
Love love love.
What I love about Prizefighter is the ability to tell the bartender what you normally drink (in my case, tequila or whiskey) Â and after mentioning two or three labels that you like, expect that they'll pull out four or five bottles of small labels you've never heard of to sample. I can't think of another bar where the bartenders are so friendly and where you can really learn a lot about various spirits.
Additionally, expect great music, nice decor, a mellow atmosphere, and just a generally great place to grab a drink, especially on the patio on a sunny Sunday afternoon.
Not that this has anything to do with anything you'd really be looking for in a bar, but I love all the huge, vertical plants growing inside. Gorgeous and jungly!
The only food they have to nosh on is a pretzel or an It's It. Salty or sweet or maybe you like both?
The pretzel was decent and the mustard was a bit spicy.
The drink menu is pretty extensive and they have some strong pours here. I opted for a cider and a non-alcoholic hand crafted drink this time around but it was still quite good. Last time, Yelp hosted a super fun event so there were a few drinks like the punch bowl people rave about.
There's also games here and the music is good so yes, I approve of this place. We ended up taking over a table in the front patio and then went inside when it got cold out.
I'd imagine this place is pretty busy on a weekend but since it was a Wednesday night, it wasn't so bad.
There is no happy hour menu though which is a bit of a bummer. I love the fighter theme and the space in this bar.
Is this place really awarded best spirited cocktail bar in San Francisco? Eh, I would definitely disagree. Maybe my taste in cocktails are a little more refined than what this place has to offer. Although, it did seem busy for a Wednesday or they must have had some lesbian convention going on because THAT was the crowd. Bummer.
Review Source:I had high hopes for this place based on the reviews but ended up leaving pretty disappointed. I would highly recommend Honor Cocktails which is not that far from here over Prizefighter.
I went here with a group of folks from the office. We were there pretty early and it was super hot inside.  I don't hold that against the establishment, the rating is for the crappy service. The vibe I got from the bar tenders were pseudo hipster trying too hard to be cool. Since we were there early, there were not a lot of other customers but it was still really hard to get the attention of the bar tenders and get some service. This happened over and over.  They were just standing around or chatting with other customers who I am assuming are regulars. I know that being a jerk does not get your service but  my best efforts to smile and get their attention went to waste. Should not be this hard to get a frigging drink. Looks like you are pretty successful Prizefighter and you don't need my business and you are not going to get it.
My favorite bar in the East Bay. Â Has outdoor patio area and hip inside furnishing with a that shuffle board thingy with sand. Â Mixed drinks are superb and the beer selection is also good. Â At least 8 craft beers from around the West Coast mostly. Â The owner Jon and Dylan are occasional bartenders and adds to the hospitality. Â The best bartender there is the other (employee) Dillon. Â He always recognizes me and comes straight over for my order. Â I've been a regular there for two years now. Â It can get crowded especially on Fridays with your hipsters, techies, and dogs , it can get loud, lively but always interesting.
Review Source:I am so happy to find a place that isn't divey, but I can go to in a pair of jeans, a t-shirt, and no makeup and feel right at home. Â
The bartenders are insanely friendly and even when they are swamped still want to chit chat and get to know you. The owners know how to hire. Â
They have specialty house cocktails that I am slowly trying one by one. I keep hearing about this punchbowl that I will be swiftly downing next time.
Located in a unique warehouse area with plenty of parking for your DD and food trucks out front for a mid drunk nibble.
The outside patio is heated so you can get some fresh air and stay warm inside and out.
Check it out for a chill time with some buds.
Judging by all the other 4-5-star-reviews, I'm just adding to the noise here, so I'll be brief and utilitarian:
Back Patio: Â Awesome secluded space surrounded by olive tress. Dead-wood tables and ashtrays humanize the place, but it still somehow feels nice.
Inside: Â So much room! Â Bar, shuffleboard, decorative ottomans galore! Also, the gal working on Sunday was great, and played awesome music. Â Points for the antique black-and-white advertisements for live female wrestling in the balcony!
Menu: Â EVERYTHING. Â The only comparison I can draw in both the ability to make and serve EVERYthing at its finest without being pretentious or overdressed is the famous Bar Tonique in New Orleans.
Also...what the heck? Â This place is in *EVERYVILLE!!!! I forget that there's anything in Emeryville other than that giant strip-mall/plaza/shopping-center and Pixar!
In Prizefighter, I found love in a *hopeless place!
Prizefighter. Â One of a handful of places in the Heart of Evil that is worthy to take your hard-earned greenbacks to. Â
Their cocktails are tasty, they serve fine beers, and they can give you hard booze straight up or over the rocks - just the way I like it. Â There's also a shuffleboard here for the hipsters and yuppies to contest over after a long hard day at work (what? hipsters have jobs?). Â The punch bowl is a phenomenon that I have not yet partaken of, but I hear it's insane. Â You should try it and get back to me on what it's like. Â I'll bet 4 of my booziest friends can drink it all. Â Or maybe just two if you're not in a hurry to go anywhere for 4 hours.
Oh yeah, they also serve yummy warm pretzels here if you need something to go with that punch bowl. Â You know you want some.
This place USED to be called Kitty's, which I also loved. Â Along came Prizefighter, with it's living wall, flavorful cocktails, food trucks that park out front, and its AMAZING mixologists!
I've watched Bar Rescue so much that I know that consistency in the cocktail recipes is UTTERLY important. Â Well, this crew DEFINITELY has that down. Â Pat, Dylan, Dylan and Lucia (I know that there are a few others, but I've not met them all yet), are amazing! Â They greet every customer, and mix their drinks with a smile! Â It's always so appreciated to be able to come in after a long (sometimes horrible) day at work, have a cocktail and talk with such a great group of people.
The outdoor patio is perfect for Daylight Savings Time and Summer weather. Â Customers are all really friendly, and you always meet someone new when you're out there.
Now, if only Prizefighter would open at noon some days, so I could occasionally have a cocktail and a nice lunch on their patio, I'd be in heaven!
Love love LOVE Prizefighter. I'm happy to call this wonderful place my neighborhood bar.
Not only are the drinks artfully created, the bar staff is AMAZING. Dillion is the best.
Prizefighter allows dogs in, outside food is a-o-kay, shuffleboard, Rock 'Em Sock 'Em ROBOTS, close the box, great selection of beers--often including a sour beer, indoor or outdoor seating, funny articles posted in the restrooms--really what more could you want?!
I end up here in spurts--either 4x a week or once every two weeks, but regardless of how long it's been since my last visit either the wonderful bartenders remember me or are kind enough to pretend to.
Awesome awesome place to meet up with friends, bring your dog, meet new people--since the crowd here is generally friendly and willing to play a game or two of shuffleboard.
Prizefighter is awesome! Â Fantastic drinks and very friendly staff! Â We had an event with about 75 people here on a Tuesday night and had the 2 tall tables in the back reserved for us. Â Jon and the rest of the Prizefighter staff did a great job keeping everyone happy and their glasses full. Â We arranged for a taco truck to park outside for our guests and the Fivetenburger truck also showed up unexpectedly. Â Great event and great venue. Â We will definitely be back!
Review Source:I really take advantage of the fact that I live right down the street from this place. When I came here for the first time, I thought, 'Who knew??' Prizefighter is a bit hidden, tucked away in a corner along an unimpressive, lackluster road. But once you find it and turn the corner, you will surely be in for a treat.
Awesome atmosphere, awesome drinks, and an awesome shuffleboard table! The bartenders take great care of their customers - they're attentive, skilled drink makers. I love watching them whip together their next concoction. Cocktails are $10 each, but they are delicious and pack a punch.
There is an awesome patio with fireplace outside and a mellow, cool atmosphere inside. The shuffleboard table is quite popular here. Definitely a fun activity to partake in with a group of tipsy friends. But beware, it can get competitive ;)
Definitely had some good times here and plan to be back for many more. 5 stars.
One of my favorite bars in the east bay because of the chill atmosphere. In my experience, patrons here are super relaxed and friendly (as are the bartenders). The drinks are delicious and they have a cool bar set up with beakers, etc. The dark and stormy here is my favorite anywhere (they use a thicker rum) and I have yet to be disappointed by a specialty drink I've tried here.
There's shuffleboard in the back and they allow outside food. Rotten City Pizza is a few blocks down and people often get delivery. This is a great place to hang out with friends when you want to unwind. The only downside is that it's kind of in the middle of nowhere but at least parking is plentiful!
If you have to spend time in Emeryville, you should spend it at Prizefighter.
I generally get  one of their house specialties, and they have never let me down. Everything is consistently delicious, creative, and fresh. My group of friends have quite eclectic drinking tastes but there is something to satisfy even the pickiest of us. My favorite thus far has been the Moscow Mule, the candied ginger is the perfect touch. Mmm!
The ambiance is also pretty great, though it gets super busy I've never felt as though I have to really yell at the people I'm with.
Love this place!
The best old-fashioned in town, hands down. The bartenders are friendly, helpful, and  quick! The prices are a little steep, but for quality this great, I understand. I've come here for birthdays, post-dinner drinks, Friday night bar crawls, and random Tuesday afternoons. Prizefighter is classy, consistent, and has a very nice patio when it's warm outside with bougainvillea and warm lighting. There's shuffleboard inside and some nice furniture for lounging (if you're lucky!). The windows allow for warm light in the early evenings, and the bar decor is so deliciously East Bay I can't even stand it.
We found this bar after accidentally passing through our original destination. I'm glad we did, because we ended up having a good time here! It's a bit hard to find, though, my s/o spotted it because of an open fence. We didn't even know the name until we asked one of the patrons!
The atmosphere is relaxed and nice, plus the bartenders are really awesome. The drinks are strong, though, so you know you're getting your money's worth. Also, it looks like a bar straight out of The Sims 3. Haha.
Awesome bar, we think this will be a monthly thing for us. Pricey, but nice.
I first attended Prizefighter during a fabulous YEE (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz/yelps-love-is-a-battlefield-elite-event-prizefighter-emeryville#hrid:uug9TQ0Ge4D_pCsTwNs6Wg">http://www.yelp.com/biz/…</a>) and in reviewing my review of that event I realize that my visits were almost exactly a year apart... My second visit was on the tail end of a Saturday night out with friends to celebrate Rachel H's birthday.
Our group of 10 grabbed a table outside but quickly moved to an available table inside which was good for two reasons: 1. it was warmer inside and 2. people weren't smoking right by our inside table.
Our group split two varieties of the punch. I don't remember the names but after a brief peruse of their website, I'm pretty sure one was Mutiny on the Bounty. Regardless, both were quite tasty with interesting flavors (not too sweet) and plenty of their respective booze. Each punch option is $50 and serve 6-8 people each.
It was hard to find at first because it appears to be a random bar in the middle of a bunch of industrial buildings. I'm glad I've found it though because I love this bar. The atmosphere is pretty modern and trendy with an East Bay twist. The bartenders are really cool, and the drinks are excellent. Sometimes, fivetenburger sits outside and that's a big bonus. This is one of my go-to spots when my friends and I go out.
Dog friendly also
My dogs love the patio, and the people who have enjoyed the punch love my dogs. It's a win/win.
It's a weird spot for a bar, but the ambiance is fantastic. While I love me a dive, sometimes I want to be classy, and sometimes I want to bring my dogs everywhere, and Prizefighter allows me to do both.
The patio fills up really quickly, but if you get there early enough, there's ample comfy seating. All the drinks are fab, especially the punch (I can't remember what it's called...) that includes tea. Don't go here and order beer. I mean, you can, but you would be missing out.
This place is, in the best sense of the word, enjoyable. Â It's in a location that's a bit out of the way, so everyone there is in the mood to appreciate it, and that's a good start--you don't have riff-raff coming off of the street and criticizing things left and right. Â I suppose you can call it a destination bar. Â The decor is nice and warm, very inviting yet contemporary. Â There's shuffleboard, which is certainly not unwelcome. Â In short, it's a nice place to stand/sit around and chat with friends.
As for the beer selection and drinks, I'll give it a solid B.  There could be a more robust variety of beer, but what they do have is good enough unless you're really in the mood to get something funky and different.  I'm not a big wine drinker, but their  The cocktails are certainly competent, but nothing really blew me out of the water.  I favor stuff on the boozier side, and that seems to be the tip that these bartenders are on.  I'll definitely return in a while and try their punches or their mezcal selection.
A rather unpretentious and pleasant place to get a few drinks with friends. Â Like I said: enjoyable.
Quickly, Punch me in the face...I have found my home!
Thus was the quote whispered to my by my fellow "Goldfish"
I had a dream of opening a place like this, the former "Kitty's" have been revamped to be a cozy place for cocktails and class  and a splash for your kitten-kaboodle casual fun. It reminds me of the spirit of America with the no-sassy and all class bar starter Kit!
I love this place, I just hope it gets popular in a beautiful diverse anti-hipster way.
What I mean by that is that this place deserve a local crowd among it's
back-alley location as if it was a secret place the mature can go to after work...
but because of it's Local It will be ever so found out the growing populous
of sweater wearing d-bags and "Forever 21ers" that are destined to evade this place...thus no longer making it a secret anymore. Â :(
Now this place is beautiful, it speaks to the man who loves Beer.
And the woman who loves the cocktails. I personally am partial to
both which makes me a cultured enough to be the sexiest thing
to ever drink in the place!
They have the most friendly "I love what I do for work bartenders".
It's cute, almost as if they were friends of yours offering advice or kudos. I like that!
A Place like this redefines good service and drinks.
the Place takes cards, cash, and even allows outside food if you brought in.
I thought It was a place named after a Boxer Little did I know...
It was named after an "Eels" song according to the website.
Here's what I had...
BRUICHLADDICH CLASSIC!
and some GRAND DUQUE D'ALBA Respectively,
I'm a fan of the old fashion. so anything with whiskey, catches my heart.
Pro-tip - Last Time I was here, I bought some food from the emeryville public market and another time I bought in some "Everett and Jones ribs".
A bar that lets you bring in your own food is Always Home to me!
Thanks also for having "Moose Drool" :) I love you!
Bam. Prizefightah gets it DONE.
Went with some friends for a pre-New Years Eve Eve cocktail and tasty beverages were had by ALL. Â Seriously artisan level concoctions, classy decor, friendly service and just the right amount of dive/chilled out bar atmosphere to let you know you there in your jeans and vintage T are just as welcome as snazzy pants over there in her saucy Friday night outfit.
I can't wait to return, although... I'm sure my liver can ;) Thanks!
Prizefighter is close to work so I've come in a few time after work.
I really like the ambiance. There's a theme without shoving it in your face, there's outside seating which is always a plus, and the staff are always really friendly.
The drinks are really great and not too expensive and they allow you to bring in food.
Dark & stormy! So delicious. Halona L. was raving about this drink being the best she ever had, and I didn't believe her until now. In fact, most of the drinks I tried were definitely quality stuff.
The vibe here is great, too: super chill and relaxed, not to mention they're dog friendly! There's an outdoor space as well, and shuffleboard. The only snack on their menu though is a soft pretzel, which I think could use a little work. To make up for it, they allow outside food and there's even a pizza place down the street that will deliver to you here. Not bad!
Well I used to be a total regular when this joint was Kitty's. A bunch of my friends who lived in Emeryville or occasionally some who lived nearby would swing by here at least every other week for HH. Well maybe we were there more than that! Everything about the Prizefighter appears to be everything that Kitty's was for the most part.
You have the great patio area to enjoy a cocktail or beer and talk about anything and everything with friends or strangers. The ramp around the edges made a great overflow area to hang out at until a table(s) would open up. Perfect to bring a bite of grub to and just let time go rolling on. The flora and fauna outside was very peaceful and relaxing as well.
PRO TIP: Stay outside, unless its inclimate weather, as it is a much nicer way to enjoy this place.
The interior was a typical bar set up with several tables and a U Shaped bar set into the middle of the room. Occasionally there would be some kind of music (DJ) or a game on (football). But mainly this was/is the local neighborhood hangout.
Parking is anywhere on the street nearby and there is always a spot within a block. Several apartment complex's and condo towers are nearby here as well. Let alone a number of companies are located around the corner. This has always been a decent neighborhood hangout.
The cocktails are weak but their selection of liquor is great. I'm a bourbon drinker and they carry a nice selection like Willet, Booker's 8, and Blanton's.
I frequent this place because it's nearby my home and workplace, and the vibe is just so awesome. I love the outdoor patio they have and the space in general is just really welcoming. The cool thing is they allow you to order pizza from the street away and let you eat it there.
They have a great shrub soda selection that they make in house too -- those are pretty amazing! I actually do like them more than I like their mixed drinks.
I would not recommend getting their punch. It lacks alcohol and flavoring.
