I celebrated a milestone birthday party here with 20 of my closest friends.  Everything was perfect ... the food, the service, the view, etc.  Then why did I only give 3 stars?  Because of the music.  I was promised by the manager (we even shook hands a few days prior to my party) that the guitar player would be playing from 6:30 - 9:00.  But he only played from 6:30 - 7:00.  I asked the manager what happened - and he told me there was a game on the TV that needed sound, so the music couldn't continue.   Even though I met with the manager a few days prior to my party, he neglected to tell me. His reply ... "OOPS".   REALLY disappointing!!!!!!

If I could give this place ZERO stars, I would!  What a mess.  Where do I begin?

My friend and I went for what we thought would be a nice meal, good service, and amazing view...well, I guess we got 1 out of 3. The view WAS great, but the service and food were nothing above terrible.

    1) We sat ourselves bc there was no host
    2) At least two servers saw us sitting there w.o menus and still ignored us
    3) I went up to ask for menus, and one server looked at me and kept walking past me
    4) Three different servers proceeded to ask us for drink orders, all of which sounded annoyed we were even there
    5) My bloody mary was bland, and was not served w. the garnish advertised on the menu (cheese/salame skewer)
    6) The food was...edible, barely.  We'll leave it at that.
    7) We asked for multiple things when the meal came (one being silverware!), and all took substantially long to make it to us
    8) We were asked how the meal was, for the first time, when we were almost done choking it down
    9) The menu advertised that hh would give us an automatic 30% off our bill.  The server gave us 20%, claimed it was an "old menu", and refused to horor the 30%.
    10) Our bill was presented with a 18% gratuity added (there was only 2 of us...)

At this point we decided to speak w. the manager, LUCAS, who chuckled at our complaints.  He left with our check, came back with it (now at $0.00), slammed it on the table and said "don't worry about the tip", then stormed away w.o. letting us say anything.

Way to be a professional "manager"...No wonder the employees are rude and horrible at their job...Lucas is their manager!

I've worked in the service industry for over 5 years, and this was just unacceptable.  Needless to say, I will neverrrr go back to Prospect Bar and Grill.  And I highly discourage anyone else to, as well.

Had a nice dinner during the sunset in the patio. The views are very nice and the food was surprisingly nice for this kind of restaurant. Normally a place like this would have just bad/average food and overcharge because of the views/location, but this wasn't the case. I had the pesto salmon and I was very happy with it.

If you check-in in their facebook page they give you chips and salsa (that are just meh, but they're free).

The service is not great. Our waitress came with the wrong drinks once. Also when we asked for the check and gave her our cards, she came back asking if we had given her our check/cards... just to realize that she had them in her back pocket. We also overheard the couple sitting next to us was complaining about something wrong with their bill.

Yes, it is a place with a great view!
Food is OK, the pesto salmon is good.
The waiter is not very helpful, the whole service is the reason why they got a 3 star!
Remember to check in FB, you can get free chips and salsa:)

    1. Great patio with amazing views.
    2. Great place to go to for a sports game because almost every seat has a view of the game.
    3. The food quality was great.

Downside was the service - the waiters were not friendly. I was ready to pay my tab so I asked another waiter if she can let my waiter know that i'm ready to pay my tab and she told me that I have to wait for my waiter to come back in. I would give this place 5 stars if the service was at least decent.

I will never come back to this lounge again.  Came with a friend for dinner and drinks.  We ordered top shelf Vodka with cranberry juice and you could barely taste any alcohol.  We didn't say anything for the first round of drinks, but after ordering the second round and finding there was absolutely NO alcohol in the drinks was frustrating.  Here I paid $8.00 for each drink then paid an additional $10.00 for top shelf vodka which apparently the bar tender failed to even include. RIP OFF!  We also ordered two appetizers but apparently the order got lost or served to someone else as it took 45 minutes and several inquiries with the waitress as to where our food was.  Unfortunately when the food was served, it was lack luster.  The hummus tasted like they just blended canned garbanzo beans. The Ahi Poke was decent but nothing to write home about.  Overall the service was lack luster and we were treated with contempt because we were complaining about the drinks and food.  Only good part was that we were refunded for the one round of drinks.  WILL NEVER RETURN! If you like paying premium prices for drinks with very little or NO alcohol in them, then by all means this is the restaurant for you!

Just left this place and will never return again. First drink order tasted a little like alcohol was part of the recipe. The second was straight up cranberry juice...no alcohol at all. We ordered appetizers, which finally appeared after 30 some odd minutes and after reminding the waitress. We sent the second round of "drinks" back and asked for our check. The only plus was the nonalcoholic drinks were taken off the check. Will not go back. Thank you very much.

This place is alright. Nothing fancy, but the happy hour makes it pretty affordable.

Happy Hours: Monday thru Friday 4pm - 7pm, Sunday 7pm - close for 30% off your bill!

I got to try the following:
    - Ahi Poke - it was okay, you get more taste out of the crispy wonton than the actual tuna
    - Lamb Sliders - these were pretty good, a little dry, but the mint aioli made up for a little bit
    - Chicken Caprese Sandwich - the best out of the 3, because the chicken breast was still very tender and moist, and who can say no to mozzarella?

Waiter service needs improvement, they didn't take our orders until 15 minutes in because they thought someone already helped us... Also, we had to remind them about the 30% off because it was happy hour...

Overall ambiance is good though, because you get a view of La Jolla Shores and Prospect St. as well as live music, pretty patio lights overhead, and heaters to keep you warm.

The food is way too average for the extremely high price. Only reason giving two stars is for the great live music and cool staff.

My boyfriend and I enjoyed our last day in San Diego with a trip to La Jolla. We wanted to check out the cliff where you can see the gliders taking off, but we ended up making it an evening trip for dinner. We were hungry and were thinking if of going to another restaurant, but thankfully we didn't.

Couldn't help but become a patron here with the live music coming from the outside terrace. The solo guitarist was awesome! Playing rock music for a Sunday happy hour, it seemed. Our server was great; she was friendly and we were able to get her a little excited about the Bay Area nursing school.

The food was a great way to finish off the weekend, especially when you gone to a couple of gut-busting eateries. I ordered the seared ahi salad. Another salad I haven't had in a long time. It was delicious and hit the spot for not being too heavy. My boyfriend had their steak salad. The steak was cooked just right for him but he didn't get to enjoy the rest of the salad because the dressing wasn't for him.

Other than that, we the music blaring paired with good drinks and food. It was a great way to end my SoCal visit.

Worst mojito known to man. Overpriced. And underwhelming. Generic guac and watery salsa. Live music and view were nice, but not enough to make up for the $60 we wasted on 4 crappy drinks and a bag of chips.

After some fun shopping and walking around Prospect Street for a few hours we were ready for some goods eats!

There are a ton of places to chose around this area but this place stuck out because of the view you get from their outdoor eating area. It's prime.

We walked in and it looked like we were the only ones there, which worked towards our advantage because we had our server's undivided attention pretty much the whole time! We chose to sit outside because you cant pass up a view like that!

Our server, Melanie, was amazing! She brought us waters and menus and gave us a little time to decide what we wanted. We both decided to go with sliders. She continually checked up on us and made sure that our drinks were never empty and that everything was tasting okay. Even when other groups started filling the place up she continued to make us feel like we were her only priority. Amazing customer service for sure!

The sliders were exactly what a slider should be. Bite sized with a slight char and a juicy pink center. They are the perfect little mini burgers! The fries were nicely done as well they were all nice and crisp!

The whole time you're enjoying your food you're also getting to enjoy the beautiful view of the ocean. Like I said before, Prime.

Due to remodeling, it's been quite a while since Prospect has been a dancing venue. Hopefully this will change and it will once again become a popular weeknight place to dance.

I can only vouch for the atmosphere at this place as I didn't order any entrees from this place.  They do have a deal where if you check in on facebook, you get free chips with salsa. Awesome. Friends had drinks and I didn't hear them complaining so I'm assuming it was all good. Our waiter was also very friendly and humorous. Their drink names were also pretty creative. Tramp swizzle? Why not?

Came here to unwind after dinner and this was an awesome choice. Their live music is very soothing. I came here on a Saturday and saw Aquille perform. Apparently, he sings there every Weds and Sat from 6 - 9 pm. I will most likely come back to hear him again and try some of their actual food.

I thought I was going to have a great night out at a lovely restaurant in La Jolla for my friend's birthday.

But no. I was wrong on all levels. The waitress took our order, then admitted she never hit the "send" button to the kitchen. So we waited even longer to get our food. Once the food arrived, she messed up our drink orders. Then at the end when I was finally over it all and wanted to leave, the girl never came back to give us our check. I waited 40 minutes until I got out of my seat and went to find her inside. She was just standing by the bar and said she was waiting on other things. I looked at her in disbelief-- then said "UGH OKAY FINE" and went right past me and walked outside to my table to drop off the check--totally ignoring the fact that we were waiting for days and I had to get up to get her.

I finally asked for the manager. And he thought getting a round of drinks would make up for it. It was sweet-- until he brought the drinks out and mine was wrong. Seems like bad service is a trend here!

The food was okay. Drinks were weak and pricey. You can definitely go somewhere else for better food and service in La Jolla.

And don't ever order the chicken fingers. They taste like cardboard.

i bumped it up a star since i really liked my server.  she was very sweet and attentive.  the live music and decent eye candy makes me want to come back.

the mojitos are served in cute jam jars and wines are decent pours.  this time, i had the lobster ravioli.  overall, average food with la jolla pricing but who doesn't like live music on a chill patio?

tip: check in on their facebook page for free salsa and chips!

I love the view at Prospect. It's nice. Both indoor and outdoor seating. Best time to come is during the week like on a Thursday during the summer right around dusk. It's awesome. The drinks are more than fair. They also have a pretty good happy hour. Food is really good! I love the Lobster Rav!

So wasn't happy that they don't have the lamb appetizer or lobster tacos I saw in the pics. Lobster ravioli and hummus were ok. Crowd wasn't very sophisticated. Music was decent mix of 90's and top hits.

Came one evening and they were closing before 10 even though their business hours are supposed to be much later. I called next day to see if they have a channel that shows the soccer game I wanted to watch and the person on the phone told me they have that channel. I came at 2:45 pm and I was the only person there. The bartender flipped through the channels and told me they don't have it. Waste of time; no wonder you don't have any business.

I sat at the table in the profile picture and heard their guitarist Ryan Hiller, play a version of "Take Five" that was actually without cliche. My server Kayla was very polite and checked on me regularly. I was able to get some studying done on a saturday afternoon, before sitting at the cove for an additional hour.

I had the salmon BLT which was fine for lunch. The view is spectacular and the crowd is young, hip, and casual. A great lunch date or meeting location with tasty American foods.

The music was comfortable, think Robin Thicke with a guitar and a flair for funky jazz. My personal fav was Ryan's version of Herbie Hancock's "Chameleon!"

    pick up a CD!

The food is good. My wife had a chicken pesto sandwich with some really good fries. I had a La Jolla Burger which was juicy without being too fatty. This is my favorite kind of food btw. Socal American food ftw

I am actually a loyal customer, once I looked past the fact that the service is sometimes slow and pathetic.  The food is quite good.  I've tried pesto salmon, grilled chicken, beef kabob and flat iron steak.  The price is extremely reasonable for a joint like this in LJ.  Where else can you have a decent flat iron steak for less than $20 in La Jolla?  That said, I don't think they will last for another 12 months.  With a low rating of 3* in Yelp, it is a killer.  I would be very surprised if it is still around in 2014.  Until then, I would enjoy this joint, no reservation necessary.

How do I put this gently...
    Do not come here.

Shall I elaborate ? Upon entering you are greeted with the stench of stagnant water around the bar (you know that mildewy smell from spills that they don't clean up with actual cleaning agents?). The food was overpriced, & forgettable. The waiters had to come back and re-order everything because they couldn't read their own writing, yet STILL managed to get 2 of our orders wrong. Service was abnormally slow, other tables who had arrived after us came, ordered, ate, enjoyed the view, & left within the time we were waiting for our food (1 hour). I would understand if they were swamped with people but there were maybe 3 other tables besides ours, on a Friday afternoon.

1 star for the view, and 1 for the waiter who graciously split every check for our party. Ultimately you are paying for the view & to kid yourself into thinking you are a yuppy.

A bit pricey for the quality of the food. Food was just okay and service was very slow. The live music is the only reason I'm giving any stars.

This is my third time coming here. Every time I have been here they have had an accoustic musician of some sort and they have all been great and added to the mood. When we first arrived we had a reservation and the host was trying to make us sit outside where it was cold when there were a lot of open tables inside. We had to convince him to let us go inside and it seemed like a chore. The appetizers are better than the main courses, so I would rate this place more of a drink and appetizer specialty type place. Our waiter was funny and made us laugh quite a bit.

The second time was a little weird. It was some sort of swinger/match.com night. We weren't aware and were the only "couple" there.

The first time was for drinks and apps... it was great but it was rainy. This place is definitely a nice weather needed type of place because the outside ambiance is great.

Overall the food is mediocre, but a great place to get a few drinks and listen to music.

    1 star for the ambiance/music
    1 star for the drinks/apps
    1 star for the service

Stumbled upon this place last night while walking around La Jolla cove after dinner. I was walking by and heard and an AMAZING singer and had to check it out. I can't comment on the food but the atmosphere and drinks were good and the performer (named Aquille) is seriously ***phenomenal*** He does mix ups/ acoustic covers of popular songs and I was blown away by his talent. He plays here on Wednesday and Saturday nights -- perfect spot for a date!

Prospect Bar & Grill is one of the hippest, most happening places in La Jolla. It's the perfect setting for an elegant, intimate dinner by the fire on the patio while heat lamps and live music are provided. After dinner enjoy a GREAT bar staff and dance the night away as the DJ spins till the wee hours. It's been the perfect backdrop for a romantic dinner all the up to the 300 person multiple birthday bash thrown this past weekend. They pulled it together for us on short notice when another venue closed it's doors and let me tell you, new fans were made!

Everyone was on point and festive...as for a dance floor - the whole place really was a dance floor with people grooving in all corners. The food is fantastic, the venue is conveniently located and perfect for medium to large events. We're bring the whole gang back again this Thursday for another big Valentine's Day event...THANK YOU Prospect Bar & Grill, the management and all the servers. You guys rock!

My friend and I arrived at noon on an unseasonably warm Jan. Saturday with a Living Social deal for lunch. After giving us time to peruse the menu our server  replied to each of our first four selections, "We're out of that. " She finally admitted that they were out of all vegetables and fish, and that she thought there might be 2 burgers left  in the kitchen until someone went shopping for groceries. We made compromise selections and munched on the fairly good onion rings. Then we ordered the chocolate mousse cake, and found slimy green mold about 2/3 of the way into the piece. When the server was notified, she said she'd tell the manager. There was no offer of a refund or gift card for a comp dessert on our next visit. Nothing.

This place has an awesome location, view and ambiance potential. Plus live mellow music on the deck overlooking Prospect and the Pacific. I can only guess there are management problems. I think the best hope for this place is 'Restaurant Impossible.

Came here for lunch last week and even though it was cloudy, it still had a great view.  The location was very good and had a nice porch overlooking the street.  We sat inside because it was cool.  The service was fast and the guy was nice.  We split mussels in Blue Moon beer, and they came with a side of fries.  My BF got the lamb sliders which he enjoyed, and I got the caprese sandwich, which was great.

Would come back here when it was warmer to sit outside or for happy hour.  They had a really big menu as well so would definitely try some other things on it.

Great place , parking is always easy a change from the rat race of down town, no cover charge on the days I go ( Friday) Music is on point and the crowd is diverse!
If you go downtown SD your out the pocket 40 bucks when you factor in parking and cover ,, prospect is the spot!

This place occupies a great location. You can get a glance of the ocean while listening to live music but... what else there?
I am afraid to say it only has the class of a sport bar. Reminded me the frat parties in college:Loud, dirty, trash talk about girls and beer cans everywhere. We were told that there is no tables available at 3pm when most of the place is empty. Blame it on me to not give good review.

One of only a few places in La Jolla that is open past midnight.

Some nights they have live music during dinner time.

The crowd and music are hit and miss... Some nights they hip hop, others 80's or 90's. Crowd ranges from 21 to 70...

The dance floor is pretty small and gets crowded.

I like the fact that you can be indoor and outdoors at any given moment.
Outside area has enough seat and heaters.

I give Prospect an "honorary" 5 star just because our server, Michelle, had the most beautiful eyes. But even if Michelle wasn't our server, I would still come back.

Live music, good prices, awesome upstairs patio, great cocktails, mostly good food.

For an appetizer, you have to order the ahi poke. With 4 people, order 2 orders. Also, if you like Mac n cheese, order the Buffalo chicken Mac app.

I would never blame Michelle, but the food runners brought our apps, salads, and entrees at the same time and it was super awkward. We didn't even have silverware or napkins at the table yet. Once again, awkward. But Michelle's eyes put me in a happy trance and I shut up and ate my meal.

It was Dad's 67th bday and we all had a blast, so there you have it.

I really wanted to give this place a higher rating. Purely because

    - The wait staff are super accommodating
    - Open mic
    - 30% off happy hours
    - THE FREAKING VIEW OF THE OCEAN
    - The cool table fires
    - The atmosphere (feels very... la jolla)

but the food. was just. meh. it's not great. but it's not bad. it's just alright.
but you probably won't find cheaper food in downtown la jolla.

just try it out! it's definitely worth the view!

I'm really not sure what the bad reviews are about.  This place has a AWESOME second story view of the Pacific Ocean, live music, hardly ever a wait for a table yet still a busy atmosphere.

It's a bar and grill with some great dishes on the menu like the mac and cheese, sundried penne (yum) and a salmon BLT.  Def worth checking out... especially for a game on tv.  Love to take out of town guests here as well!

Went there last week for Dinner. What a great atmosphere. They were really packed and the bartender came out and said is it your first time here? we said yes.
Then a few minutes later he gave us a table right on the top facing the water.
That was  awesome.. Good Food! Good drinks!  Good prices!
    I will go back!

    Food is good.
took the waiter ages to get me the drink that i even finished my sandiwich before him getting it.
The drink that i my friend ordered got it wrong, she got a plain soda instead or 7-up or sprite, then she found hair in the food!
the music was good but kept on going louder and louder that it became in the end SO annoying!
i didnt pay the bill but i think they dropped of the dish that had hair in it, which is a good gesture, but eventhough, if i had to eat in that area i wont be going there anymore!

I don't go out in La Jolla much. Came here around 10:30 on a Saturday night. I enjoyed myself. It wasn't too crowded. We were able to get a table (much appreciated). The most ridiculous thing to me is that you have to pay for bottles of booze at clubs to be able to have seating. I mean obviously this is the case at most clubs, but has anyone ever really stopped to think about how ridiculous this is? That you pay sometimes outrageous covers and you are expected to pay hundreds more just to have a place to sit once in a while throughout the night? Do you people know what it's like on the feet to be drunk and dancing for 4 hours straight?

Anyways, that was a total tangent, because there was plenty of seating at this place.

Didn't have to wait too long for drinks. There's not much else you can ask for.
