"you know that place that stinks like old hood vents covered with grease!"
This place is great if you can get a table outside...if not prepare for your clothing to smell of grease! Not just a hint but a serious stench. The food is ok, would recommend...bacon cheeseburger sliders, and pork sandwich! Drafts come in 20oz glasses!
The inside is really dark and loud, which personally is not my scene. I do however love the outdoor seating when the weather is nice. It is probably my second favorite bar in Asheville. Young, comfortable and not over priced. I've never had an exceptionally great experience with the staff and but more importantly I've never had a bad experience with them. The get the job done.
Review Source:so the first time I went in here the bartender thought it was white boy day and I almost had to go bats**t crazy on him.But then I ordered these sliders Id been hearing about. They are amazing and so I decided to let homeboy live and I went back couple weeks later and there was a cooler bartender who was not a d**k and those sliders were on point again! Get the burger joint and the bhan Mi
Review Source:Where to start with this review is aggravating the hell out of me. So I'll just run it down a list.
Great bartenders - Â 5*
Actual Vault  to drink and act a fool in -  5*
Guinness on tap - Â 5* !!
Awesome martini,Gin and Ginger - Â 5*!
Outdoor seating - Â 5*
Unisex bathrooms - Â 2* (they were clean)
Dark and couldn't see sh!# Â - 1*
3.5 stars - Place is barely lit at the bar area, and I'm not a fan of unisex bathrooms...
(there is no designation, they are both marked - Men/Women).
I will never go to the Vault again. Last week I went in around 3 in the afternoon. The bartender was eating off a plate right behind the bar, and acted as if I was bothering him when I asked him for a drink. Later he was out front smoking and his shirt and pants were filthy. He was rude.
Last night my friend was asked to leave the bar by the unfriendly blond bartender. My friends and I were drinking and having a good time, when the bartender didn't like how my friend asked loudly (a bar is no place to whisper) for another round. She said that she deserved "respect." Let me be perfectly honest with you, I used to go to the vault once a week and this bartender never smiles, talks to me, or says hello. I am fed up with the entitled service staff. Also, the bar smells horrible. Do not go here.
This place could be great but the customer service is simply "0". I went in with a friend some time in Sep, 2012 and had the worst experince. It was a week day so it was not too busy. They only had 1 person serving at the bar and her name was "Alley". She was extremly rude to me, my friend and a few other people who walked in. A Total BITCH !  I have lived in many  cities like NY/NJ/Charlotte and I can tell you she will never get away with this kind of service their. Either she will get fired or get punched in the face for being so rude !
I dont know what the heck the owner of this place is thinking when he hires people like her to run his business, Â Or maybe he is NOT THINKING !
Meh. we stopped in and had a couple of beers. It was expensive in comparison where we came from and went back to, and didn't seem to have the redeeming qualities to qualify.
It was pretty upscale, which maybe wasn't what we were up for at the moment. The outside seating area was full, and maybe the better place to be than the bar. The bartender got us our drinks, but wasn't interesting in any way. I think bartenders should be interesting. Getting drinks is like half of the job.
There's not that much more to say. We thought it was meh. So we moved on. if you can find a seat, try sitting outside on a nice night. I can't comment on the food, so try it out and let me know.
This place played really amazing music by a DJ last Tuesday night. I mean stuff even I (the music crazed girl) had not heard of. I really enjoyed the atmosphere. It's really dark inside and chill. Didn't seem to have many beers on tap. I wasn't impressed with the blonde-haired bartender....she was the worst beer filler-upper ever. She left my friends beer on the other side of the counter for like a few minutes while we just stood there. It was awkward.
I heard their food is pretty decent. I may try this place again- if I want to have a more relaxing chill spot..
A group of about 20 ended up here on a Monday night from the suggestion of a local. We took over the upstairs room (which was just a room with sectionals) and created our own little dance party. The staff was great about it and just let us enjoy. The establishment is small, but classy. Drink prices were reasonable and we had a great time on a Monday night.
Review Source:I love Asheville because of places like this.
A glass of wine with a side of baked brie in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains? Yes please. Cool local crowd, chill atmosphere and decent prices? Even better.
The Vault is a hipster bar, chic martini lounge and speakeasy rolled into one dark bubble that just works ... and oh, it works so well.
A perfect locals bar, the vault is a tiny dimly lit bar with great drinks. It's set aside on a less traveled street so not everyone is gonna wander in here. It definitely seems like a cool, little bar for Ashevillians (and their visiting friends like me).
The bartenders are very competent and friendly and the place has some pretty killer specials. Like giant 20 oz Pbr's for 2 bucks. But, it's probably most known for its killer martinis, so I'd recommend trying one of those first.
Ridiculous graffiti in the bathroom: "Learn 2 Fart" and "E=MC Hammer"
I'm surprised to see such favorable reviews. Â Our experience wasn't good at all. Â
My husband & I were the only people in the lounge and the music was pretty quiet, so when 2 guys (who appeared to be friends with the girl working) came in and started talking loudly with her about being drunk/high/etc, it made for a pretty awkward time for us.
The drinks were pretty good and the prices were fair, and the lounge itself is a really nice looking space. Â It's probably a better time when more people are hanging out, but we had a pretty uncomfortable experience there & won't be back.
What I like about Asheville is that there are so many places to party downtown with a big group of ladies and not have to worry about sleazy guys hanging all over you. Â This is certainly true of the Vault. Â Our bachelorette party of twelve got cozy in the corner booths, and eventually took over a good portion of the outdoors patio.
This place has a hipster vibe: the bartenders are just a little too cool, but not aloof enough to be ineffective, as evidenced by the fact that the drinks are really, really good. Â And they were fairly friendly as well, so perhaps it's more accurate to say that they're just cool enough. Â They had only two bartenders on the Saturday night we visited, and it would have been so much more amazing if we could've gotten table service, over waiting in a marathon-length line at the bar to get our drinks.
We ordered up a round of tequila shots and they were nice enough to bring them over: a runner / busser fellow wearing a black ball cap with the word "fuck" repeatedly emblazoned in white across the front. Â He was nice, helpful, funny. Â They used a heavy hand to pour those shots, too. Â Damn, they were enormous! Â Of the other drinks we tried: peg leg (spiced rum, ginger ale, lime, $6), blood orange martini ($8), chocolate martini ($8), blackberry martini (off-menu, but they obliged us, $9), blue hour cocktail (like a mojito, but more tart, $8), and all were spectacular.
We know bachelorette parties can be annoying when one is not involved, but no one seemed particularly peeved by us, despite the fact that we did displace a number of people both in the booth inside and outdoors on the patio. Â The folks who work here and the folks who stay for the drinks are cool. Â I will hit this spot up again on my next trip to Asheville.
Great prices, excellent food and an ever changing scene - some nights are mellow and others are ramped up. Â Drink selection is great and I recommend one of the in house Bloody Mary drinks. The parking deck makes it easy to come and go. Â Outdoor seating is a plus when the weather is so nice, ample sun and seating make for summer fun.
Review Source:My favorite bar in town. The drinks are well-made and fairly priced. I've always had a great experience with the bartenders, who are fast and friendly.
They serve food till close, and it all tastes great for the price. Try the Brie plate - it's delicious!
Vibe is really nice. At first I thought it looked a bit too fancy for my taste but in reality it's very inviting. Can get pretty crowded on weekends but the outside patio area helps in the summertime. Obviously, the bank vault itself is pretty cool. A chill spot to hang out, play your own music, and feel like a VIP.
This place is most certainly worth checking out!
Excellent cocktails and amazing prices. There is ample seating for everyone in your group and yet it isn't too big that it would get noisy or crowded.
The service is good, the specialty cocktails simple but tasty and it is a truly unique and comfortable atmosphere. It is worth the short walk off the beaten path (Walnut Street) to get to this great place.
The Cucumber Martini is swell.
One of the best bars in Asheville. If you are into mixed drinks and martini's. This is the place for you.
The bartenders are knowledgeable and friendly. Our made very generous martini's (close to 14 oz!). All glasses were chilled prior to pouring. All garnishes were fresh and as thick or thin as you wanted.
There isn't a huge selection on the menu, however what's there is good. There's also an outdoor patio area for you to enjoy drinks outside. Overall, a little pricey but well worth it!
It's one of the best liquor bars in Asheville. Some of the best mixed cocktails available in Asheville for the price. And at the vault, the economics are the key! With two dollar tacos, three dollar whiskey sours, and a curry of the day you just can't beat it. Not to mention that they serve food until closing! The atmosphere is a little hoity-toity for my tastes, but the clientele is so diverse that it is almost ironic. They also have a fun little avenue patio out front! A great place to kill a sunny Sunday! Â The food isn't mind blowing, but late at night, it hit's the spot, and for its price, it just makes sense.
Review Source:I wasn't planning on giving this place 5 stars, but I couldn't think of a single thing to critique negatively.
It's a primo spot, right in downtown, but nestled on a less busy corner. Great interior, cool, calm, and very classy. I was incredibly surprised by the drink prices, extremely affordable, nearly down right cheap, in complete contrast to the vibe that the interior provided.
The vault itself, yeah, the vault.... Which was obviously left over from the banking days and is now retrofitted into a nice entertainment lounge complete with flat panel TV, ipod hookups, and a 5.1 surround sound system. I find the vault rampantly enticing, it's a room with infinite potential for movie screenings with friends and the like, while not having to clean up after them or allow them to steal your booze.
Everybody wins.
The Rankin Vault Cocktail Lounge is just another drop in the bucket of reasons that I should move to Asheville. I can very easily imagine this bar becoming my local evening roost.
