I like this place. It's like the hetero-friendly gay bar. Although my roommate did have someone try to give him an angry handy in the bathroom lol. Small place, nice peoples. They have a kitchen nook where they cook food for us. Pretty basic bar food but I like that they cook right there in front of everyone so you can see its clean and not all... gross or anything. Not like that'd stop me...

Whats not to like? Beers, bears, and babes. Oh -  and Karoke!

Lose your attitude outside, saddle up to the bar and grab a giant beer on the cheap and settle in for some great (or not so great) singing by your fellow bar go-ers.

The patio is cozy and quieter than the inside, but staying out here means you are in smokers territory and that you'll be thrown back inside around 12/1. Patio heaters are plentiful and there is a fully staffed and stocked bar outside for your enjoyment!

fun spot for cheap drinks and random kareoke.  reminds me of a midwestern towny bar in central illinois.  tight group here.

I'm not really into karaoke but I had a great night at Redwing.  The karaoke was swingin' and there was a nice range of singers.  Everyone drank doubles all night, which were around $7-$8.  The back patio was chill and a nice break from the screaming and dancing around the microphone.

I enjoy Redwing more and more with each visit. The drinks, food and service here is outstanding. I highly recommend you visit during a Karaoke nights. I always make sure to stop by whenever I'm in San Diego.

What's to say that hasn't been said? It's cool having some of the newer North Park bars around, but on the nights it starts feeling like Gaslamp lite, Redwing is the place to be. Order a double and sit back and watch the karaoke or start up a conversation with one of the regulars or enjoy their back patio.

Also - their kitchen is open late, and their burgers are pretty amazing!

Kinda dive bar but not really. There seems to always be karaoke and the food was surprisingly good. Big out door patio as well.

Went for lunch this past Sunday and was blown away by their food! I had the BBQ burger and it was AMAZING! The young woman cooking was really nice, Tracy makes a great bloody mary and the outside bartender was adorable and really sweet. Very nice staff and great food! We'll be back!

Good atmosphere but can definitely get crowded so come early! If you want to do karaoke, don't come after 10pm or you wont sing until about 1:00am, we left at about 12:15am and there were still at least 10 people ahead of us.

Definitely recommend Geeks Who Drink trivia on Thursdays, but once again come early to get a table.

I read the reviews on this place and high expectations...shame on me.  My partner and I visited a couple of weeks ago for trivia night.  It's as nondescript an interior as I've ever seen.  It's small, loud and the food was certainly nothing special.  It was cheap beer night, served in 16ooz cans.  I guess it reminded me too much of a bad college bar.  It also had way too many women and straight couples for what I was expecting.  I doubt we'll go back.

This place is seriously too small. The size makes it hard to enjoy yourself, as well as eat. The food was typical bar food and nothing amazing. They do have some good happy hour specials on drinks but once again...the place was just too small to enjoy. Service is also slow.

It smells like chicken wings and believe me, I have no problem with that!

Check your ego and misconceptions at the door and jump in an have a great time. You never know what to expect and the music is always fantastic. You may just see an old guy in a suit singing a Debbie Gibson song or a petite bald girl singing Danzig. Anything goes!

The karaoke is well organized and is fair. For those of you who know the other well-known karaoke bars in town then you know what I mean. There is a first come, first served list, and you aren't going to find a corrupt host that is willing to let someone skip the line for a free drink or a few bucks. It can take a while but never longer than about 45 minutes or so. Grab a few drinks while you wait but be careful if you order a Sailor Jerry and Coke. You may just end up with a cherry Coke because of the noise in the room. True story.

Great bar, great vibe, great crowd and just one more reason why North Park is developing into the awesome neighborhood that it is.

I've been to Redwing a few times now. For some reason, it just hasn't grown on me. I don't know why, really, because it seems to be a human petri dish that sports an optimal atmosphere for growth. Growth, such as the bacteria being cultivated in just about every corner and orifice of its space. Seriously, Redwing, break out the Clorox and give the place a good scrubbing. My skin was crawling the last time I was there. Oh, and while you're disinfecting, if you want to take a sledgehammer to the horrifically ugly, tiled bar, I won't mind one bit.

The drinks are fair and have never really stood out to me. The prices are extremely reasonable, though. The last time I was at Redwing, I intended to order some nibbles from their bar menu. However, after my gaze caught the fry cook in action, in a rather filthy cooking space, I decided to pass.

Without a doubt, Redwing draws the crowds. Breeders love the place, evidenced by some of the worst karaoke my ears have ever been subjected to. On the other hand, it's nice having a place that showcases a diverse mix of people.

The bartenders are always a delight. Very friendly. Because of the incessant crowds, however, it's virtually impossible to be able to actually talk to any of the staff. Definitely not a "Cheers" atmosphere.

Overall, I'm just downright ambivalent about Redwing. So, I suppose that means I'll be back, eventually.

Anywhere outside of Chicago that has 312 on tap is going to be a great bar. It helps that people here are genuine human beings.

This is hands down my favorite bar in San Diego.  It doesn't matter which night you come there is always a good time to be had.  What I love the most about this place is that it is a great mix of all sorts of people of all different ages and personalities. I hate when certain bars feel segerated as a "gay bar" or "straight bar" but this is an everybody bar but you must be gay friendly.  The food is cheap, there is pool and darts and the best people watching in town. You get everything from the locals who should be on American Idol to the person who should never sing outside the shower.  That mix makes it hilarious and amazing.

Came here on a Friday night, and it wasn't super busy at the beginning.  Had some good food and split a pitcher of beer.  The fries, hogs, and burgers were good--it's still bar food but a couple steps up from other places!  As the night progressed, the place was packed for karaoke, which was pretty entertaining, but while we put our names in, we weren't called because it was so busy.  That's okay though!  I'd visit Redwing again!

Great place. Being new to California, I was looking for a place in walking distance to chill once and a while. Well I found it.  I am not usually comfortable being out in public, much less a bar but, Redwing has Great atmosphere. Friendly staff. Bartender Tim is an awesome guy. Delicious food, the burgers are the best !  The beers are cold, the drinks are not watered down, the prices are nice and low. Karaoke nights are completely fun. This place is a total judgement free zone. Doesn't matter who you are, when in the area, make your way there, you'll feel welcomed.

6 of us set out to go to Crazee Burger but no tables and a very long wait. Redwing down the street turned out to be a lot of fun and we all enjoyed it very much. Great burgers & Fries, Tuna Sand and Chicken Tenders were all very good. Richard the bartender was very helpful with our ordering cocktails & entree's and he's very easy on the eyes as well :-) BONUS!!! The back patio was full of eye candy and just a very good neighborhood vibe. Looking forward to coming back after just moving into the area. The young girl chef in the back did a great job. Fast, friendly & efficient!!

AWESOME trivia night! Our table  tied for second and third place, so I sent my fiance up on stage to represent our table in the ultimate dance off. He took down three competitors with some pretty amazing gyrations and guy-on-guy freaking. It was at that very moment that I realized I'm making the right decision about him this June. Thanks Redwing, for helping me see that.

Also, as someone who lives in the Bay Area, the food and drinks here are DIRT CHEAP. And they don't taste like shit (which is a rare combo). Bar patrons and staff are ridiculously friendly and cool. I didn't know there was a $10 minimum on card when I ordered a single martini -- I know, a martini was under $10 bucks here, right???-- and the bartender let it slide because I was new. How sweet was that? Extra tip for him.

Anyway, I'd definitely come back to this place. You can meet a lot of cool people who are friendly and funny.  When they say no judgment, they're serious here. 5 stars, Redwing. 5 STARS.

I like this place, but perhaps maybe not as much as some other folks who go there regularly. It definitely gives the impression that there are a lot of regulars here, and if you are a regular the bartenders and other folks will acknowledge you. The karaoke is what bring a lot of people here, and admittedly is pretty fun to watch. They often participate in 30th on 30th, although last time we stopped there it took them literally 30 minutes to get us our food sampling and we felt pretty stupid waiting around that long when the point of 30th on 30th is to walk around the neighborhood and sample various establishment's food/drink. I'm sure I'll go back, but for my money if walking down 30th around that area I'll probably go to Toronado.

I just had my first burger from Red Wing, and it was made perfectly to order. The cheddar cheese was melted perfectly, and pickles on the side were plentiful, and the fries were delicious. I had to work that night, so I had to drink soda, but that was nice and cold. The server was nice, and triple checked my order before placing it to make sure everything was right.
The othe rtimes I have been there have been enjoyable. The beer is cold!

    Enjoy Redwing!

This bar usually delivers for me. Cheap stiff drinks, friendly staff (except the one big grumpy lady on certain days she IS a moody one), and KARAOKE!!! Sshhhh don't tell anyone but sometime's I just go by myself on purpose. I don't need anyone judging. This isn't American Idol here OK so if you see me belting out Bohemian Rhapsody i expect some damn applause aight?

Ok Happy Hour is confusing as Hell here and somewhat elusive.  I know it ends at 6:00 but not sure when it starts. There is some drink special every day of the week, see my picture. They have a
$5, (burger and fries-YUMMY, chopped wedge salad, California fries)
$4 (chicken fingers, wings YUM, Naked dog) and
$3 ( all fried: pickles, green beans, Jalapeno caps and zucchini) HH food menu.

They open early and serve breakfast for charger games. I went 2 times for the breakfast and they had run out at 11, the game started at 10 :(
There is also $1 Taco Tuesday (so many special, very confusing)

The wings are actually really delicious chicken wings. The fried zucchini is fried zucchini. I think their burger is pretty damn decent too. Skip those jalapeno caps, the caps are crap.
Food...it helps to sop up the alcohol. Bar food is good.
I like the outside bar, where you can smoke or make out and no one judges, well at least you can't hear them judging. I wish they had more than one bathroom that sucks on busy nights.

Also, beware.. it's MEXICAN karaoke on Wednesdays, don't try and take the mic unless you know juan of those mariachi numbers aaahhhhh haaaa haaaa haaa

Come as you are and they'll luv you for it.I always have fun.It gets hot up in there so the outdoor back patio is refreshing. Prices are cheap but the laughter... Can't get enough. Guess it's the people you go w/& the one's u meet there. Always leave happier than I came. If I come alone I always meet a new friendly face. Luv Redwing!

    - plain jane burger
    - nice bartender

We were walking around northpark desperately trying to find a place nearby to eat around 10pm. After failing at 2-3 places, i asked the bouncer of this bar if they were still serving food and  he said yes which was good enough for us.

At the back of my mind I somewhat recalled my friend telling me this was a gay bar and didn't put two and two together till we stepped in. It was a friday night I think and a good amount of dudes were there mostly standing around trying to talk over the loud music and karaoke.

The bartender took our orders, was quite friendly and checked on us often. I ordered the plain jane burger which took a while to come out. I hadn't had any real food all day so I scarfed it down quick. A solid burger for 7 bucks.

A little too loud for me but is to be expected from a bar. Food and service were good, one of the few places (we found) that serves hot food after 10pm.

I came here with a big group of people on a Taco Tuesday. The specials were $1 taco (beef or fish), $8 for 6 bottles of Corona, and $3 Margarita.

Our group sat on the patio with a full bar outside. I ordered a beef taco ($1), two fish tacos ($2), one margarita ($3), and one pint of Stella Artois on tap ($5.25). The bill was $11.25 + tips and tax, not bad!

If you are a picky beer drinker, go to Toronado next door because they do not have a huge selections of beer on tap at Redwing.

Service was pretty good, the server was nice and she got my order right and food came out pretty quickly. No complaint.

The tacos were tiny but whatever, they were a dollar each. Fish taco was mediocre but the beef taco was pretty good. The marinate of the beef was tasty. I won't go make a special trip back there just for the beef tacos but if I happen to be in North Park on a Tuesday night, I don't mind stopping by Redwing and get like five of those beef tacos.

This is one of those places I go so often I forgot to write a review on it.

Basically, this place is for all intents and purposes a "gay bar", but really I think it's just a good bar with a "FABULOUS" streak. Bartenders here are very friendly and attentive. The KJ on karaoke nights is hilarious. Everyone is pretty chill. The only caveat I'd put out is that you shouldn't go if you're a homophobic dude. You DEFINITELY may get hit on by anotha brotha. But I totally recommend it, and since it is a "gay bar", the douches tend to avoid this place, so you can actually meet chicks here. +cue evil laughter+ ; P

I hope nobody comes into this bar thinking it is a Detroit Hockey Bar, because they would be sadly mistaken.  We ordered two stiff drinks for $10 and enjoyed listening to a middle aged man sing Celine Dion.  They have Trivia!  Anyways, this is a great place to stop in and get boozy and a laugh.

I had a fabulous, crazy good time celebrating Joni's birthday at Redwing!!!

I first walked in thinking, "hmmm, what a dive" and I left saying "damn, I can't wait to go back!" The drinks are cheap, karaoke is a delightful riot, and the vibe is flashy and fantastic. I mean, where else can you find a person in a bear suit running around, a bunch of tough guys, tiaras, and a girl in a big prom dress singing "Because I got high." It felt like an awesome 15 year high school reunion where all of the uncool kids are now cooler than ever!!!

The place is packed but everyone was so genuinely friendly and welcoming that I didn't mind the close quarters. I also enjoyed the large outdoor patio with a bar so that I could escape karaoke once in a while.

Because Redwing is located a little off the main drag in North Park, there is plenty of free parking on the street.

Wasn't sure what to expect here...and to be honest it was a bar I never planned on going to.  6 nights and 2 Yelp crawls later I have been twice and would come back.

    Pros:
    * Huge open air patio with a large bar in the back
    * Ample beer selections
    * Leo and Heidi rocking the mic
    * Shots...Shots...Shots
    * No bros looked at me

    Cons:
    * Kicked out a Yelper who left her ID in the car...understandable but sucks
    * No bros looked at me

An interesteing stop for any NP crawl or night out.

Redwing, oh how I love thee. Let me count the ways.

    karaoke for those that dare

    giant beers

    food for my tum tum

    diverse & friendly crowd

patio for sunny days or escaping karaoke

    pool tables for the sharks

    a little bit of dancing

    rad bartenders (Elliot!!!!!)

    cheap & stiff cocktails

    tater tots

    awesome dive bar status

I could go on, but you're better off experiencing it for yourself. Redwing's hosts one of the friendliest crowds I've ever seen at a bar and for good reason. The bouncers, manager Lindsay, and the bartenders are all rad.

Redwings has pretty much become my favorite bar. The balloons on my birthday pretty much sealed that deal. Thanks Elliot!

I've been finding myself here way more than I've ever expected in recent months.  But can you blame me?

    It's a legitimately good bar.

First things first.  The people that come here are pretty damned awesome.  There is no pretentiousness here.  No bear cubs who're trying to find themselves.  They are just people who're out to have a lot of drinks and maybe go diva on the mic.  Good, fun people.

Then there are the pours.  Somehow I always end up having a lot of Jameson and gingers here and the next morning I'll wake up wondering if I'm still alive.  And double props to making their ginger ale by hand.  Shout outs to Ruben for always getting me drunk.

Fortunately, they've got a full bar menu too, if you need soaking up before you leave.  Chicken fingers and fries are pretty awesome when you can't feel your legs anymore.

If I'm in the 104 and I'm not at the Pink Elephant, I'll probably be here.

Twice I have eaten ! (before the drinking!!) and have been more than satisfied!

Redwing.  You do not pretend to be anything you are not.  There is just no pretension.  You are a cosy spot close to home I'm glad I was brought to!  :)

I cannot believe I have never reviewed Redwing before, scratch that, everyone says that, but seriously, I'm shocked.

Maybe it's a little ironic to review a bar when I'm this far along with child, but maybe it's good for me to reminisce a bit about the life I used to live.  Besides, let's be honest, the last time I went here was only about a month ago.  Let's just say I give new meaning to belly-up to the bar.  (Drop the judgemental attitude, I drank root beer!)

I love, love, love this place.  It's the ultimate dive bar, situated at the corner of Lincoln and 30th, practically next door to my second job (not El Cajon Blvd, thankyouverymuch).  They have karaoke, drag queens, generous bartenders, and endless entertainment.

Reuben always ends up our bartender and he somehow tolerates my boyfriend, his BFF, and even my boyfriend's innovative witticisms, like, "We need to close the tab, my girlfriend just went into labor."  Hardy har har har.

Overall, it's totally my scene, even as a straight lady, I have a great time EVERY time.  I think I sang karaoke and actually made a few dollars once upon a time.  Maybe I should try to remember that I'm straight after a couple of beers; I may have left some broken hearts in the bathroom.

Redwing... The Urban Mo's of North Park.

That means it's an awful lot like Mo's, with its loud music, cigarette smoke-saturated patio, campy atmosphere, greasebomb snacks, cheap well drinks, and even cheaper mass-market beer -- but it's smaller, slightly grimier, and features a clientele with slightly more body hair.

Not that I don't love Redwing.  On the contrary, I've always had a blast here.  Like any good bar, it's the people who make it.  Every time I walk in here, I'm welcomed like family (even though I'm not exactly a regular yet), and I leave having made new friends.  I can't say that about 99% of the bars in this town.

Have I convinced you to visit Redwing yet?  No?  Well, what if I tell you that this is also a karaoke bar.  Well, maybe not in any official sense -- but they've jury-rigged a stage and karaoke setup in the front, where you can listen to locals belting out delightfully off-key renditions of "I Will Survive" almost every weekend.  (Note: I may or may not have participated in this.  Nobody knows for sure.)

The drinks?  Oh, they'll kill you if you're not careful.  Their well gin and soda was this massive honkin' thing that could probably blind an elephant if consumed too quickly.  Want some good liquor-fueled bang for your buck?  Redwing will provide.

The snacks?  I've never ordered the food myself, but I have stolen bites of the burger, mozzarella sticks, and fried zucchini from company.  Nothing mind-blowing here, but the food is totally serviceable and enjoyable when you crave something carbalicious.

The staff?  Dolls.  These guys never keep me waiting, and are pretty much the friendliest and coolest people I've ever met.  I'd take every single one of you home if I could.  It wouldn't be considered kidnapping if I tip well, right?

Seriously... Get your ass to Redwing.  It's one of North Park's most enjoyable destinations.

What can I say... This place has really grown on me. Now, one of my regular haunts, I am more than happy to meet up with my fellow drunkard degenerate friends here. I'm convinced it has one of the best patio spaces in San Diego which also has a full bar in the back manned by the ever so classy, EVER so sexy Elliot. Everyone who works here is a doll and knows how to pour a drink.
Redwing... There is a special place in my cold, dark, heart for you and I'm fairly certain there will always be as long as Elliot is working there.

This place is a train wreck.

    First warning sign: karaoke.
Second: the bartenders would not serve my husband and I because we didn't fit in with the LGBT clientele.

The outdoor bar and seating area was the only remote thing Redwing may have going for it.
Maybe I was far too sober to find any interest in this place.
When we left the bouncer out front looked at us and laughed and gave us a look in agreement as if he didn't blame us for cruising out of that mess.

    What a disaster.
