The Roux House has been downtown for a while, but I have yet to review it. It's not really my type of bar, but that doesn't mean it sucks.

One of the biggest selling points of the Roux House is its location. It's right by the The Manship Theatre and Shaw Centre for the Arts. It's also by Happy's and Lucy's with Boudreax & Thibideaux's not far away.

The patio here is probably the nicest part about the bar. The inside of the bar is very nice too. They have a downstairs bar and an upstairs bar. The service is generally pretty swift, as this place doesn't usually get ridiculously crowded.

They have a stage for bands. This is probably the worst part of the bar for me, as I generally hate the music they play here. You might love it, but it is certainly not for me.

I don't generally come here often, but when I do I usually have a decent enough of a time. There are definitely worse places than this downtown, but there are also much better place too.

I lived in Baton Rouge for a year, and the only place I felt I could go that wasn't a pure college scene was the Roux House. Great Music and Great Patio. It is great for all ages.

This place is managed by the same kids over at Walk-Ons so they know what they're doing.

This area has a huge appeal: the streets are clean, the crowd is a little more grown up than what you'll find in Tigerland, and everything is pretty new.

The Roux House specifically offers a nice place to have a happy hour on the patio. There are also usually bands on the weekends and this place is great during any festival or holiday type of thing - think St Patty's Day Block Party.

As the city of Baton Rouge continues to transform, no area has endured more change than Downtown.   It was once semi-downtrodden part of the city with lots of classic appeal but little energy at night.  For local party goers, it was downright depressing until its recent nightlife revival resulting in a string of new and rejuvenated bars, lounges, and high rise condos (that no one should live in).  The Roux House (AKA The Red House) is among the many places to check out, sporting a lots of space, a diverse scene, and plenty of Southern conviviality.

On most nights, a $5 cover is practically mandatory for all folks, since often times there are live bands playing on the stage.  Skip the cover and the crowds on Thursday nights, their version of Ladies night and all will be swell.

A narrow interior with a stage present along with a large spacious outdoor patio makes for a great non-claustrophobic time.  The drinks are spendy for Baton Rouge standards, but at the very least they're well made (strong and ample).  Bartenders are friendly and the live acts make this place a rowdy good time.

I gather this place would be best for the spring and summer time, when the nights aren't too chilly and the daytime is relaxed.  I am not a fan of the live acts, though I think its nice to have that as an option.  For what I know their food (Southern, Cajun) is fairly decent here.  I'll have to give a shot the next time I happen to be in downtown Baton Rouge.
