Ryan's Daughter

RD is my regular watering hole in the neighborhood (UES) on a Thursday or a Friday night.

Undoubtedly, the deciding factor that people frequent RD is because of the bartenders Jimmy & Mickey, who are also the owners. They're never short of one-liners, always generous with the pour and are brilliant at remembering all the patrons and make you feel like a part of the club.

Apart from that, a few added perks to the place are
1) Its always a nice lively neighborhood spot
2) Plenty of space with an an upstairs as well
3) Young & diverse neighborhood crowd
4) Reasonably priced drinks
5) Pool table, darts and Pop-a-shot at the back
6) Free UTZ chips ... the BBQ flavor is quite addictive. You've got to appreciate that this is just a great marketing gimmick that keeps you thirsty and re-ordering drinks

I've held off on the last star only because there are a couple of things they could fix, namely
1) Newer flatscreens for the games
2) Fix the pop-a-shot machine to keep score correctly and add a few more basketballs.

Great neighborhood bar on the UES. The bartenders are some solid guys - they provide friendly, accommodating service and are cool to hang out with any night of the week. Even when it's busy, they'll give you samples of beer to make sure you find what you're looking for.

The draft selection includes your staples - Guinness, Blue Moon, Brooklyn Lager - in addition to a few other guys and their house brew "Ryan's Daughter Ale" which goes for $5 a pop (as opposed to $7-8) and is a delightful amber. They don't have a kitchen, but they do have free chips :-) !! and let you order whatever food you want.

They have pretty much everything you need from a bar - beer, booze, darts, pool, bar seating, high tops for groups or romancing, an upstairs bar with live music on the weekends - you can also rent it out for private parties, good music... I could go on, but I think you get the picture. Most importantly, it's a nice escape from douchebagland (the customers and the bartenders).
