Drinks were the highlight of this night! Our appetizers were wonderful, but dinner was a little disappointing. Some of my co-diner's seemed happy enough for me to try agian, especially to try the Ceviche again. My sister and I tried each other's meals- I was pretty happy with her testones and her pork was tasty, but my Carne Asda was a little bit on the salty side. The different Sangria's were nice- I really enjoyed the white one.
Review Source:This place is very pretty. Staff is friendly and food is good. I've had better Latin food in the area but here is why I'm a fan. This is really the only "upscale" if you want to call it that restaurant in the area.
The menu has a variety of food from Mexico, Puerto Rico and Cuba. I ordered the ropa vieja and it was just ok. I really wanted to like this place for the food but this was the first time I was there so I can't just not go back and not try something else.
If you like Caribbean/Latin food and don't feel like going into Chicago this is the place to go. Â Food was excellent. Only place like this in the area. Â I'm so excited that there is actually somewhere in this area that we can get plaintains!! If you are not used to this type of cuisine could be an acquired taste. I can't wait to go back. Makes me want to go back to Puerto Rico or the Dominican Republic.
Review Source:The ambiance is very nice, good salsa, and they have a good tequila list. But that's where the good reviews stop. In the mid afternoon, it's hard to read the menu because the lighting is so low. The waitresses we had were terrible. Had to ask multiple times to get a friggin' glass of water and limes.
If I could sum up Sabor with one word, it'd be BLAND. The guacamole was BLAND with excessive garlic. Out of nearly half of the tapas menu ordered, the Mini Jibarito Sandwiches were the only DECENT thing I tasted. The Pastellios were BLAND. The Carne Asada was BLAND and overcooked. And everything else that my table of 9 ordered, no one had anything good to say about it. Not to mention, my Mini Jibaritos were cold.
Another reviewer compared this to Chicago food. Ha! Are you kidding me? I guess after having REAL MEXICAN FOOD from somewhere like the Michocano in East Chicago, this is complete garbage. There are countless restaurants in Chicago that may not have as "nice" of an atmosphere, but I don't come to a restaurant to be bedazzled by my surroundings. I come for the food.
And it sucked. Plain and simple. Oh, nice "craft beers" too.
The food here is amazing and a much needed addition to NWI Latin dining. Â This is not just another "Grande Burrito" place. The menu features foods from a wide variety of areas including Cuba, Spain, Puerto Rico, and Argentina. Â We tried 3 Â tapas (guacamole, tostinos rellenos, and a ceviche). All were outstanding and not your average region fare. Â If you want tacos and more traditional foods they are also available. Â
I cannot say enough about the drink selection and you HAVE to try the cucumber margarita. Â Ask for it with a cucumber garnish so you can dip it in the drink.
The service was kinda crap (slow and not knowledgable about the menu) but very well meaning. We ordered a dessert but was brought the wrong one. Rather than go through another ordering again we just ate it and went home. Â
Chicago food and atmosphere at NWI prices. Totally looking forward to going back!
