A friend and I ordered several basic dishes and overall we were disappointed with the quality of the food and the service. The edamame came out warm in the middle but cold on the outside, which leads me to believe it was microwaved. Next, my friend ordered an avocado salad ($5) - the iceberg lettuce had been a soggy & old. Then our rolls came out. My friend ordered her rolls with brown rice but got white instead. The restaurants in Millburn are great, but we won't be going back to this one.
Review Source:Meh. Maybe it was an off night? The sushi wasn't very creative. My main issue with this place is that the sushi was overly stuffed. Sushi should be crafted carefully so you can taste and experience all the flavors in each roll. This place just stuffs the hell out of their rolls and all you taste is mouthfuls of rice and fish. Just sayin'...there's a delicate balance of ingredients when it comes to good sushi and I think Samurai missed that mark by a long shot.
Review Source:I had sushi from here with a girlfriend once and it was decent.
I went back for takeout on a Monday night (MLK day) (so 3-day weekend), I was at Trader Joe's, had a craving sushi and thought I'd pick up dinner.
First of all - the cost - exorbitant! $73 total. A 'specialty roll' that was supposed to have spicy tuna in it and it just tasted like mush and nothing spicy about it. Plus a sashimi deluxe to split with my husband and udon soup for my son.
Everything was bad. And I mean real bad. Bad enough for me to stop eating about halfway in and then 30 minutes later I got sick and was sick for 2 days! I wouldn't let me son have the udon because when he was ready to eat I opened it up and it just smelled rancid.
I don't like to leave such a terrible review but you don't mess with bad fish. And you certainly don't serve it to your customers! Will NOT be returning. Ever.
