My favorite coffee shop and lunch spot in Denver. I lived in the neighborhood during the ownership change, and Massimo has done wonders with the space. Now, after living in Cap Hill for the last year and a half, I have to make the trip back whenever I can. The paninis are to die for. The bread is unbeatable. Staff is friendly and still remember me/my order regardless of when I was last in. They remember all the neighborhood locals.
Grab a coffee and a panini before going around the corner for some ice cream this summer...
Super friendly service in this tiny coffee shop. Â I love that they offer two types of local chai. Â I had the everything bagel with cream cheese. Â It was deliciousness. Â Several whole seeds and spices, and a perfect texture. Â Get your coffee, get your chai, but don't skip the fresh pastries and bagels. Â They make it a guilty pleasure stop every time I get my hair cut around the corner.
Review Source:This place is the REAL DEAL! Â The coffee is good, the sandwiches are crazy good, and the people are as friendly as they come. Â I consider myself to be a "sandwich-man"... I like anything from a good P.B. and J., to a mayo smothered sandwich from Jimmy John's. Â However, you will never have another sandwich like these! Â If you could attach the word "gourmet" (but totally affordable) to a sandwich, that is the only word that does these little gems justice. Â Also, I work for an outdoor adult fitness company and not only promote healthy choices, but have to make them to "look the part"... If you are a health conscious person they have great choices for you too. Â
Go in, spend the afternoon there, you will never want to go to another coffee shop!
Im not sure why there are so many good reviews. They didnt know the diference between a cap and latte. They heated the milk too hot trying to get it to foam but it just was a super hot milk latte instead of a cap. Regular coffee was good for the money so stick to that! Â I have not tried the sandwiches so I can not coment on those.
Review Source:The first thing you'd notice would be how nice and friendly the staff are(I mean REALLY nice). Then you realize how tasty drinks and food are too. The best thing for me was that the height of the counter is just perfect for computer-use (well, this probably depends on one's preference, but for me it was perfect). This place would be my go-to place for coffee camp out for work from now on! The ambience was so relaxing and peaceful; inside seatings are perfect when you go there by yourself, outside would be great for coffee with friends.
Review Source:One afternoon when I rushed out of Shangri-la to a meeting, coming back a half hour later in search of the phone I thought I had lost for good, the owner Massimo handed it to me. Someone had picked it up and turned it in to him. Since I only get here when Im in Denver, when I came back a week later, Massimo said "don't forget your phone this time!".
I will add that in addition to the native Italian owner and the obviously very karma-inspiring clientele, the place is unpretentious, relaxing, and serves Lavazza.
Highly recommend paying them a visit.
Paninis are soo good. I only wish there was more fillings in the panini. Otherwise, I love all the unique paninis on the menu. So many choices, but I of course went for the two featuring prosciutto. One had tapenade. The other had truffle spread and arugula. Yummy!!!
Service was super nice. They don't have ice tea on the menu, but they brewed us some anyway. How nice!
I was really craving a coffee fix after spin class so I decided to give Shangri-La Coffee a second chance. Â Can I say that I was more than just pleasantly surprised, I was blown away. Â The barista, Mark, Â was fantastic and friendly, talking with all the patrons and making everyone feel right at home. Â I spent a few hours here meeting everyone and enjoying a great cup of coffee. Â I'm so glad that I decided to go back because it was well worth it. Â Caffeine fix solved!
Review Source:This place is right down the street from my work and it's got some tasty coffees.
I've never eaten anything here except a breakfast burrito, but there are probably better options. Pastries seem pretty popular, but oh god, do not get the breakfast burritos. At least the vegetarian one. It fell apart and was a sloppy and unsatisfying mess.
Talkative and friendly baristas serving up tasty drinks, though!
They Won Me Back
I went to this place about a year ago during the farmer's market and the woman behind the counter was so rude it took me this long to go back.
Alas, I had the experience I wanted the first time. I've been to Shangri-La 4 times in the past 2 months and I've been absolutely pleased each time. Beyond fresh espresso and frothy milk are decadent sandwiches and salads. I crave their salads at least once a week. My fav is the arugula with quinoa, grains and nuts...topped with fresh shaved parmesan and house-made croutons. Delicious salty, nutty goodness! Â
The staff are friendly and outgoing. I called in a takeout order for a meeting and they were able to pull together 5 salads and a fresh, warm baguette within a 1/2 hour.
This is on of my new favorite coffee shops. They have a beautiful patio right on Boulder St. and the indoor atmosphere is energetic in color, but peaceful in tone. It would be a great place to work for a couple hours.
I was passing through, and as such, I appreciated this spot's convenience as a locale I can walk to and around.
The Good & Bad Rundown:
+ good coffee
+ quiet and cozy
+ industrial, urban vibe
+ patio seating
+ comfortable, indoor seating
- not a place to get work done
//Ultimately, a no- nonsense coffee shop, in a beautiful neighborhood.
This little, cosy, unpretentious café sells Lavazza Coffee. Period. That's all they need to make me a fan.
Besides my obvious partiality for authentic European Coffee, I also happen to like neighbourhood eateries, clean cosy atmosphere, outdoor seating, and the general vibe of a place. If all of the above are aligned perfectly, it makes for a great spot. Shangri-La hits the spot.
The service, is laid back, but quick enough.
The owner is nice and eager to please.
A delicious array of baked goodies.
A small menu of paninos, salads & sandwiches.
Good hours.
A fridge stocked with drinks - including red bull :)
And fantastic Lavazza coffee.
There, that's all I need to make my days happier.
Hmm...I'm not so sure about you anymore Shangri-La. I really want to like you, I do. You are close to my house, you serve delicious coffee, these are all positives...but apparently you are under new ownership now? I'm not sure how I feel about this. I realize that things change, and I'm glad you didn't just fold, but I wish you would get your personnel straightened out.
Since the new ownership change, I've experienced good service, and downright incompetent service. Bad service in a coffeeshop is like...going to mcdonalds, ordering a happy meal and finding out they're out of happy meal toys. Its not hard to make a cup of coffee..its not hard to remember to put skim milk in instead of whole..these are all easy things.
I really want you to succeed Shangri-La, I really do. Whip those baristas into shape!
It's my belief that a good cup of coffee doesn't need anything in it to be good. Â If I have to add stuff to it then it's not very good coffee. Â I take the coffee from Shangri-La black. Â It's hot and not burned. Â I like that if I'm in too much of a rush in the a.m. to make my own I can grab a cup here and it's equally as good. Â I work around the corner so that's helpful, too. Â The staff have never been rude, but are usually quite busy so it's not like they are taking time to chat either. Â Nothing wrong with that. Â All in all it's a nice little place to grab a good cup of coffee.
Review Source:Went to this little place while I was waiting for my scooter to be serviced. I had a coupon for a dollar off an espresso, which I must have lost on my walk over (i have a large butt and stuff generally makes its way out of my back pockets easily). Nevertheless, the barista dude took  my word for it. I got an iced americano...it was good. those things are hard to screw up, but props anyway.
Its a nice little shop in a neighborhood thats almost too cool for me, but the coffee shop dude made me feel right at home. Free wifi, rock on.
The pastries looked delicious, but alas, i resisted. All I can say is that no matter what, you cannot go wrong with a cookie as big as my face.
There are times when a man just wants a cappuccino. Â Usually I would walk over to Masterpiece Deli because, well, they make a damn fine cappuccino. Â But if the hankering hits around the lunch rush, it's just not expedient. Â That's when I'm glad that there is another coffee gem in the 'hood. Â Shangri-La is a quaint, cozy little coffee shop. Â They make a good cappuccino, have a nice selection of baked goods, and are always exceptionally friendly. Â Today, in addition to my tasty cappuccino, I got a blueberry scone that was so well made, and delicious that I actually didn't mind going back to work... Â While they don' t bake their own baked goods, they have done a great job choosing their supplier.
Overall, Shangri-La is a great little coffee shop- seemingly without pretension, but chock-full of tasty treats, and good cappuccino!
Just an excellent experience overall. Â The owner was ultra friendly, serving me some delicious espresso that had just the right amount balance. Â I use this place for business meetings and just for an afternoon stop to get a delicious cookie and espresso. Â
Oh, and they have free open WiFi too!
my coffee grinder broke this morning, which totally sucks, but it finally gave me an excuse to walk myself and my pooch to Shangri-La. Â i like coffee, i mean...caffeine. Â a lot. Â and while i'm no expert, i know what i like. Â
the place had a cool vibe- or it could have a cool vibe if it hadn't been overrun with douchebag businessmen. Â i'm sure it's not like that all the time. Â just when i go. Â it's next to lola's and vita restaurant, and with all the condos going up in that 'hood, i expect some of the clientele to be snooty yuppies, but really, that can't be helped anymore.
the barista dude seemed cool and unpretentious. Â which is always nice. Â i ordered a medium (16 oz.) latte with an extra shot. Â 3.25 plus 50 cents for an extra shot. Â prices weren't bad, really- though it isn't like i sat comparing prices to other places that i've visited. Â and it helps that the coffee is a HELL of a lot better than you'd get at someplace that starts with S and ends in Bucks. Â (is there a coincidence that their name ends in "bucks"? didn't think so...)
Shangri-La doesn't use any of that pre-ground crap and they brew Coda Coffee- which is pretty great. Â there's free wi-fi (note to self: bring computer next time), a selection of pre-made sandwiches and salads that are made in house, pastries and all that other stuff you'd expect from a coffee shop. Â
i'll go there again.
