The sole reason for the single star is that they were not open when they advertised to be open. Â I wanted to check it out and had a friend meet me at the cafe.
I checked the hours on yelp before getting there. Â Between Fri-Sat. the hours were 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
I get there Saturday at 5pm. Â The door was locked. Â I looked at the times on the window and clearly, I was between there hours of operation. Â Above the hours, there was a big sign saying "OPEN".
So, its cold and I look around to see if there was another entrance. Â To my right were condo entrance and to the left was a corner grocery. Â At this point, I reach for my phone, and give them a call. Â I get a automated message telling me the hours. Â Ok, same thing as door, and it proceeded to ask me to leave a message.
There was no sign on the door saying they were closed. Â There was no bell or any other way I could get their attention inside (there's a second door inside the first, so you can't see inside the cafe). Â Maybe a emergency came up and they had to close, but if that was the case, they should have put a note on the front door so people wouldn't expect to come in.
At this time, I had enough and decided to find something else around there. Â My friend already came here, so we both and to go elsewhere.
I will gladly followup my review when or if I ever go to this cafe, but until then, I think it deserves one star.
The Sweet Spot is what I call a "Grassroots business" (or cafe in this instance). Â What the heck do I mean??
Well, it's a one person dream come true, starting from the basics and working its way up. Â Well I am on a mission to promote it. Â From the minute you enter the dingling front door, and slide open the second glass door, you step into a world of relaxation, leisure, and friends...Truly a SWEET SPOT. Â The owner Aquanetta (her name Italian meaning 'pure water' is quite appropriate) is quick to greet you with open arms. Â Instead of her hug (although I'd sure those are free), she shares her best cooking secrets. Â If it's your first time in, she'll give you a free cookie of your choice (chocolate chip or oatmeal)--FREE, heck yes! Â Go for the Oatmeal which is ultra tasty and one of the various Gluten-free options. Â As Aquanetta will tell ya, she doesn't use that compounding ingredient of xanthan gum or any other strange items that she doesn't know anything about. Â That's probably why these organic treats taste "normal" and the best Gluten-free treats I've ever eaten. Â Each item is made daily: from the brownies, to the cookies, to the round individual cheesecake pies. Â All prices are suuuuper reasonable (and I would give her a nudge to raise them to earn what she deserves...instead I throw a dollar or two in her little tip house).
Check out the pictures I took for Aquanette of her cafe to promote it. Â So Yelpers, you in?? (Only a block east of the Kimball Brown Line stop). Â Keep in mind that SS is closed Thursdays and Sundays.
