Definitely up there among the cheap, authentic Mexican places, but it suffers from being cash only. Note that tacos don't come with the standard cilantro + onion unless you ask (standard is lettuce, cheese, sour cream).

#3 God, I miss this place... used to live right near it then moved. Great food fast & really friendly. Vegetarian burrito is really good! It has broccoli & carrots which sounds weird, but swear is yummy. I like both the red & green sauce. Cash only.

This place is pretty deceiving. Especially from the outside. They actually have good tacos and burritos. Sure their tacos aren't as good as Pasadita down the street, but they were pretty close. And obviously they have burritos, so they got that goin for them...

Legit family operation.  So much mexican on the west side and always hit or miss.  This is a hit. Safe for consumption.

Not sure how these reviews are so high. Tacos not great, Asada average. Al Pastor bad, no flavor for both. They do have really good red sauce. But if you just taste the stuff without adding anything. It doesn't even hold a 3 star rating.

I ended up getting lunch here one day after doing a wine run to a near by liquor store. I ordered a Burrito al pastor over the phone and when I got there no questions asked they gave me my total, I paid and walked out with my food. I'm not gonna lie I was wondering if they gave me the right food but I thought what the hell, what's the worse that could happen? Apparently nothing, they knew what I was there to pick up and the burrito was awesome btw, but I asked for added avocado...always add avocado! The green salsa was not spicy but delicious. Would definitely stop by if in the area again.

This place is not that great. Do not waste your time on this place. The service is terrible and the food is just as bad.

Compared to other Chicago taco places this place is good. 4 stars comparatively.

I still don't understand why Chicago can't get some legitimate, authentic Mexican food like they have in southern California.

Oh, prices have gone up from what is on their website, FYI

I really like the couple that works here.  They remember faces, greet you warmly, and always thank you for your business.  Fresh ingredients, flavorful salsas, all prepared with care.  They take pride in their business and it shows in the quality of the food.  Love stopping in when I am near this hood.

I went to this place last night after looking for nearby restaurants on the way to the laundromat.

Note: This is a cash only place. i'm glad I'd looked at yelp to know this before walking in as there was no sign anywhere.

Restaurant was clean, owner/server was very friendly and gracious. One other group was in the restaurant

My boyfriend ended up with the enchiladas verde and chicken and steak tacos. I had the Huevos con Chirzo burrito and a cheese quesadilla. We also ordered a large Horchata drink.

It was pretty solid mexican food. Not the best I've had, but certainly passable. It was about a 10 minute wait for order to go to be done. Tin Foil wrap helped keep burrito and tacos warm.

I wouldn't come to this place just to come here, but if I was in the area again and hungry I'd certainly make a pass by.

It doesn't get any better tha TBE3.  I've eaten my share of mexican food - and this place is a go-to for any meal, not just 4th meal.  CASH ONLY.  You know a place is good if they can outwardly refuse customers who want to use credit/debit.

Al Pastor anything is fantastic.  I also highly recommend Chile Relleno tacos/burritos/tortas.  Its not on the menu but they make it every day.

Don't get too excited when boss man immediately calls you amigo - everyone is that man's amigo.  It just goes to show that you're special, just like everybody else.

Would hit this place on the way home from the gym on a regular basis.  They make a decent burrito for a decent price.  Can't complain.

ONLY FOOLS GO TO FLASH TACO OR LA PASADITA!!!

TBE#3 has been good to me for 3 years now.
    plus they are sweethearts there.

my favorite thing: the fact that if you order a vegetarian burrito, they don't just stuff it with extra beans and rice. they put in tasty veggies like carrots, broccoli, bell peppers, etc! YUM

tip: before i became a vegan, my favorite thing to order was an off-menu item... the chile relleno BURRITO! oh wow, how i miss it. consider yourselves very lucky to have this information.

Great food, Im in there every week for what I call Macho Nachos, just tell Pancho that Cisco sent you and he'll set you up with my favorite dish ...
This has to be the first Mexican place that Ive been to on a regualr basis that has NEVER had a single bone in their chicken. Not since this place has opened on Ashland have I gotten a bone in my chicken dish.
NOTE, the guys landlord wants to raise his rent by THOUSANDS of dollars, not fair but its legal.

YES TBE3 is awesome.  Chorizo is a must have (burrito or tacos), and even as a meat eater the veggie burrito is amazing (who knew that broccoli and carrots inside a burrito could taste so great!)

This place is awesome!  I cannot get myself to order anything but the chorizo burrito with avacado.  It is out of control!   The food takes a little while because they give a shit about making it good- the total opposite of Flash Taco.  Everyone should eat here.

certainly not the best Mexican on Ashland, but what they do, they do very consistently...

they cater to gringos, and are open till 5 on Fri and Sat, they close before 11pm every other night

i eat the steak tacos, but special order onion and cilantro only w/ the green salsa

    +
    a mandarin jaritos - winning!

An underrated taquería that is a perfect alternative to la pasadita down the street.  I spent many late nights (and some dinners) picking up a burrito or some nachos and they both filled me up quickly.  Great food at a great price... cash only though!

Taco burrito express #3 you say! Not on my watch.. Your always taco burrito express numero uno in my heart.  Greatest late night food in the area.  I have had lunch, dinner, and after bar snacks from TBE and they never disappoint.  The food is good for takeout food and the price is crazy cheap!  The staff has always been very friendly whenever I have been there as well.

I stop by #3 at least once a week. Friendly staff, mom and pop type place. Open late on the weekends and the food is excellent; very authentic. Good prices also; vegetarian friendly.

Affectionately known to myself and friends as simply #3, Taco Burrito Express #3 is amazing. The tacos/burrito al pastor are the best I've had in the city, and the price is right (cheap).

#3 is family owned and run, and everyone there is very friendly and accommodating. It's perfectly acceptable for families, but definitely a late night hit... I think the most crowded I've seen it is at about 3am on the weekends.

If you're craving good Mexican food, head over to #3 and you will not be disappointed. I say go for the al pastor, but I've also heard rave reviews of the chorizo...

The food here is amazing...I order the burrito with chorizo and scrambled egg, and it is the best I've ever had... The prices are great and portions are even better.. The cooks and waitress are friendly and sincere...
and it's a plus that the waitress is a sexy hispanic chicka... that in itself will keep me coming back.
Only disapointment, they dont take cards or have an ATM... but the gas station next door does... so it's all worth it.

I love having this place near my apartment. The service is good and they are always friendly. Their chicken taco is one of my favorite things and there is plenty of meat. My bf really enjoys getting a steak tostada which is also piled high.

It's more of a take out place in my opinion, and their late hours are a plus. Overall, good value and food!

Went there at about 10 pm with my boyfriend a few weeks ago.
    1. Service was friendly.
    2. We ordered a nacho plate and a burrito, both steak.  The steak was grisly and there were huge chunks of fat.  I liked the cheese and toppings, but my boyfriend felt that the grisly/fattiness of the steak was overwhelming.
    3. Things were kind of greasy.

In general we thought there are better options in other places in the neighborhood, which is a shame because we liked the people and  the environment.

The service here is outstanding!  The workers great you with a smile and are happy to see you. The food is prepared fresh and always to order. Great el pastor tacos and burritos, meat is always well seasoned and the food is always in good proportion. Also t hey have the best Flan that I have ever tasted and has now become my new cheat food.

The food is good, and the service is even better.  The people who work there are really friendly and helpful, and I was impressed that my marinated pork burrito had pineapple in it!  For me, that was a nice, inventive touch.  Horchata was also pretty great.

Woot, I love Taco Burrito Express #3!  They have such good Mexican food, and the people who work there are so nice.  My boyfriend lives in the area, and he probably has a burrito from this place at least once a week.  They know him by name, and they give him extra avocado.

Don't be scared by it's appearance, it is great late at night, but it is also good for normal food too.  You can eat there, but it is not the best dining atmosphere.  Don't worry about calling in your order either, they make it super fast and it is easier to tell them what you want in person.

Delicious burritos. Haven't had anything else, don't need to. Both the red and green sauces are yummy, get one of each. Nice people behind the counter. 3 foot long autographed picture of the Luvabulls on the wall.

By far the best taco place in the area. Super friendly owners and workers! II have never had a complaint about TBE#3. The food is always great and reminds me a bit of Taco Burrito King, I recommend the steak quesadilla on flour tortilla.

It may not look like much, but it's a fast, quality place.  I've had a number of things here, all of which were great, but the real winner is their veggie burrito.  As a vegetarian I'm something of a veggie burrito connoisseur, and I find most to be pretty bad.  You'd be surprised how many restaurants manage to mess up something as seemingly simple as a veggie burrito, including La Pasadita just a few blocks to the South.  But Taco Burrito Express totally gets it right (with a small bit of tweaking).

By default the veggie burrito comes with the usual, lettuce, tomatoes, beans, etc.  Keep all the defaults, but when they ask if you want vegetables or rice, say rice.  It's not that the sauteed vegetables aren't good, it's just that they don't belong in the perfect veggie burrito.  Also be sure to add avocado, and when they're wrapping up your order and ask if you want salsa, say salsa verde (green salsa).  I'm not sure if they make it themselves or just get it from some wholesaler, but wherever it comes from it's some of the best salsa I've ever had, and I regularly buy extra and take it home with me.

The staff is super nice, and I've noticed that the longer I've been eating there the larger my average burrito seems to be.  The only thing to watch out for is that the staff doesn't speak English too well, so you have to speak clearly and explain your order carefully, lest it gets misunderstood because of the language barrier.

I love this place. It's cheap, delicious, fresh (much less greasy than most taco joints) and always open when you need it. The carne asada tacos are just tasty and the man and woman that work there are very friendly. Yum!

If you're looking for Mexican food on Tuesday at 5 pm, Friday at 11 pm or even Saturday at 2 am, Taco & Burrito Express #3 is the best place in the Wicker Park / Bucktown area. Everyone who is packing into La Pasadita down the street don't know what they are missing. Taco & Burrito Express #3 serves up an amazing vegetable tostada and a kick-ass vegetable burrito. It is so tasty!

I've had both La Pasadita and Taco & Burrito Express #3 and I would rather walk the extra 5 blocks and get some good Mexican food then settle for La Pasadita.

Been here on a few occassions late at night, and it's a safe late-night spot.  Here's why: it's never crowded, it's not in an area with a lot of bars so there aren't many stumbling drunks, it's quiet and clean, the owners (a couple) are super friendly, and the food is always solid and cheap.  The nachos platter comes with your choice of meat, shredded lettuce, shredded cheese, diced fresh tomatoes, and sour cream.  The burrito dinner comes with a massive burrito (takes up half a styrofoam box), rice, and refried beans.  The menu is pretty varied; you can order breakfast items and horchata!  And most items are $5-7.

I'm not a vegetarian, but the veggie burrito was big and tasty - it has broccoli, rice, beans, lettuce, zucchini, and I'm sure other yummy things I can't remember.  I had to ask for salsa to go, but it was no problem.  And it was cheap!

It's right down the street from the animal shelter I volunteer at three times a week, Tree House's Bucktown branch, so it's a no-brainer I'll be back for good and quick food.

Everyone who worked there was quite friendly.  They cooked everything right in front of my eyes and from scratch.  I want to get the guacamole soon!

This is my designated drunken late-night burrito spot.   It ain't La Pasadita, but it's a hell of a lot better than Flash Taco and you'll get in and out quickly.  TBE is rather undistinguished from the outside and it has a completely generic-sounding name, and as such it doesn't seem to have much of a following.  But there's some uberfriendly motherly woman that works the night shift here and makes sure that the restaurant has its shit together -- the customer service is super friendly and the quality is much higher than the sister establishment in Lincoln Park.  The chorizo seems to be a particular specialty; avoid the steak, which can be too salty.
