I live in Bridgeport so this place is convenient and affordable.  The burritos are a good size for dinner.  I always get the steak burrito.

Been eating here for 20 years. Tacos are great. My favs are the chicken, pork stew, and the stuffed pepper. Hard shell or soft shell are both good. steak is just okay, kinda bland, so i don't order it. Burritos are good but don't expect the usual giant burrito that you would usually get at other places. These are skinny, but there tasty so i don't mind. A little pricey for a taco joint, but hey, it is good. . Nachos used to be great,  but not anymore for some reason. green hot sauce is very good, and very hot. quesadillas are good too. And one thing i do not want to forget is that this place is super clean. I mean spotless.

The chicken tacos are awsome! And the caldo de pollo (chicken soup) definitely hit the spot on a cold winter night

The bad news? Their refried beans are not veg friendly (lard) and they are cash only. The good news? It's cheap and you can still get avocado tacos or burritos if you are vegetarian. Not fancy,  just regular iceberg lettuce and corn tortillas, but yummy and fast. The avocados are always fresh and ripe.

Tacos Erendira is on my Mexican food rotation in Pilsen/Bridgeport. I don't know if it's worth the drive if you live far, but it's definitely a "if-you're-in-the-neighborhood" place. Also, though it's metered, parking is always available when I go.

My wife introduced me to this place years ago and it's our "go to" for tacos in Bridgeport.  We typically order the taco dinner which is 3 tacos, rice and beans.  I can't say enough good things about the chicken, steak and ground beef.  The green sauce that comes with it is very HOT...which is exactly how we like it.  The chips and salsa are very good as well and worth ordering.  Haven't really ordered anything else from here as we just stick with the tacos.

This place is the worst. It is totally overpriced and not good at all. My son left his entire torta because the meat was too tough to even bit through. After a year of disappointing trips, we are really done with this place. Go to San Jose or get tacos in the back of Martinez store.

Quesadillas.  Something about Erendira quesadillas.  Ground beef quesadillas at that!  Why rave about a quesadilla, you jest?  Because they have the perfect layer of grease on the outside, not some floury bulls*it with a smattering of conservative cheese.  These quesadillas rock!

For the dainty "I hate grease" peeps, this isn't your place.  But if you want flavor and some of the HOTTEST green sauce you may ever experience, this is your place.  And I mean HOT!  And I love HOT sauces!  Peace.

To me, good cooking is a balance of 1) sourcing quality ingredients and knowing how to cook/season them, and 2) when to stop. Tacos Erendira really allows the natural flavors of their ingredients to shine. The tacos are sooooooooo good, each bite causing more delicious juices to soak the tortilla (I always get hard shell) and get all over my hands. Each is topped with fresh queso chihuahua; I can't stress enough how much this adds, why don't more places use it? Their guacamole and chips are perfection as well. I try new taquerías often but find that many produce tacos that are overdone (too salty, oily, etc) and none really hit the spot like Erendira. My family has been coming here for years, and will continue to do so for many more.

this restaurant is close to where i stay at and i do eat mexican food quite often... i have just finally gave this place a try since most of the time i go to san jose down the block..

taco erendira is pretty big inside compare to most mexican restaurants i went to.. oh and the place seems pretty clean too.. the service was average like most places..

i ordered a taco dinner and the fresh limeade.. the limeade tasted bitter! ain't it suppose to be sweet and sour?! the taco dinner was a little below average i must say... the meat was lacking in flavor.. i basically only enjoyed eating the rice and beans from my meal...

i will stick to san jose for mexican food around the area.. this place is more expensive and doesn't taste as great..

I started writing this review a while ago but got distracted and never finished.  What I do remember is a clean and spacious restaurant with pretty decor and unremarkable food.  Nothing really had any flavor and none of it was good enough to come back for, much less recommend to anyone.

    Spend your money somewhere else.

The food is decent and fairly priced. I came here ritualistically mid-dog walk once a week for about a year until, just recently, I was told that I would have to wait outside.

I have a 10lb papillon with service dog tags that I simply carry with one arm, and I am literally just picking up a carry-out order rather than eating it inside the restaurant. But despite me telling them that it is illegal to refuse admittance of a service dog, AFTER I paid for my order, I was told to wait outside in the rain for it to be finished.

I'm not the type of vindictive dick to actually report them and watch them go under because of a 6 figure fine, but I've taken my taco money to any choice of the 10 other places within a 4 block radius.

Simply put, I am not impressed with this place and have never been a fan throughout the years.  I recently tried them again with two others dining with me and again, not impressed.

The place is clean  looking.  The staff seemed very bored with the ordering process.  The first young woman that helped us was okay but clearly was not aware of how to be more attentive.  To be fair, when I went back up to the counter to get another can of Diet Coke, the second woman that helped me was genuinely engaging and nice.

I ordered a chicken burrito dinner.  Nothing spectacular.  The beans were good and the rice average.  The disappointment was with the chicken - tasted boiled and that's fine but the additional lettuce, tomato, onion and cilantro did nothing to excite it further.

The hot sauce that they gave was your standard hot sauces.  The lack of chips and salsa as a complimentary item (and the cup of soup that a lot of places also give) really kind of surprises me.  The prices are higher here and I would think that they would be able to do that.

The presentation of the food is boring.  La Mexicana on 35th and Halsted at least puts a little effort into making it look like they cared about what they were serving you.

My sister had a steak burrito and the lettuce and tomato that she wasn't sure she received (the girl asked me what I wanted but neglected to ask my sister), was added very sparingly.  She did say that the steak was good enough to make up for it being a total disappointment.

    My father head three steak tacos and he basically stated that it was average also.  It was his idea to go there so...  :}

The soft drink selection was sub-standard.  I mean, if you like RC Cola and Diet Rite as the major cola options.  To get the Diet Coke, you can't get it from the fountain like the other drinks, you have to buy a can.  Minor quibble, I suppose and the fact that, if you like those drinks, you can get more from the fountain, that may please some people.  At most other places in the neighborhood, you have to buy by the can also and no fountain option at all.

I know a lot of people seem to like this place but I cannot figure it out.  So, I will let them eat there in peace and avoid coming here in the future.

I love this place!  They have great food at a reasonable price.  My husband and I have been coming here for years and have had only great experiences.  My one complaint is that they only take cash (which for a small business, I completely understand), but there's no indication that that is the case until you have placed your order and try to pay.  They really should post a sign on their exterior facing window or at the very least, on their cash register.

Since moving from Pilsen to Bridgeport, my taco options within walking distance from my apartment drastically decreased--a problem which continues to tug at my heart strings.  In any case, after trying a good majority of the taquerias in the Bridgeport, I have come to the conclusion that Tacos Erendira is THE place.

Their menu is fairly standard: tacos, tortas, burritos, tostadas--just pick your meat.  I've had the carne asada, which has the yummy caramelized ends that are essential in a good taco.  The option that I have discovered to be unique is the addition of the chile relleno as a filling.  Chile relleno torta?  Yes, please.  They sear the chile, so the cheese oozes and gets a nice crust on it.  Amazing.  Chile relleno tostada?  Don't mind if I do.  There are some misses on the menu: the horchata can be a bit watered down and the tamales are not as flavorful as others.  However, this will be my new go-to taqueria.

If I were to describe this restaurant in one word I would say, awesome. Of all the Mexican fast food restaurants I've tried in Chicagoland this has been the best. The food is out of this world and the restaurant is extremely clean. I will be back sooner than later. Thanks to previous reviews or I would have never found this restaurant.

Tacos Erendira, is located close to our house, so we naturally want to try the local eats in our neighborhood.

We did take out. My husband had their tacos, and I had their enchilada entree. My husband said he did enjoy their tacos, but he found the food to be rather pricey for Mexican food.

As for me I found my enchiladas as a whole to be tasty but bitter. I wasn't able to finish my meal and I left the table feeling hungry. If i wasn't bitter I would've enjoyed it more but yeah that did it for me.

Sorry not the place for us, we will be searching else where for good enchiladas and tacos.

Tacos are good here...not as good as they used to be before they moved to their current location...but still good.  The tomatoes arent always desirable (even in season) and the guacamole could be fresher.  Otherwise, pretty good tacos.

Yet another restaurant in Chicago that takes only cash and doesn't have a sign up that says they only take cash.

They have signs up for just about everything else...their 40th anniversary, where to order, and a sign up for their sale of the world's finest chocolate. Posting a sign gives me a choice as to whether or not i want to use your ATM that charges me a fee versus placing my order and having to walk over to the ATM and back to the register.

I was not too impressed by their tacos or tortas either.

Best tacos in Bridgeport. The chicken tacos are amazing. The al pastor tacos are the best. Flautas are big, 2 tortillas 1 flauta, yum! And the steak quesadilla are cheesy. Try it you'll love it.

Best taqueria in Bridgeport, hands down.

Why go to Taqueria San Jose when you can go to Erendira? Their taco dinners are awesome, as are their burritos. I've yet to have a bad meal there. My friend got some enchilada thing once also (I think it was an enchilada... She just asked for the best vegetarian dish and that's what they brought her) covered in cheese which was delish. The chocolate cake is alright too. A little dry, but the frosting is fantastic.

Anyways, it's your cheap, local taqueria. With awesome food. And lots of seating! And they're really quick to bring out your meal.

Two things I would change: the salsa verde is SPICY. I don't do spicy. They should have a milder option. Secondly, they should be open til 4am like San Jose so I never have to eat a crappy taco dinner in the wee hours of the morning...

I ordered pollo tacos, chorizo tacos and the chocolate cake, yum.

Chicken was tender juicy and mildly seasoned to taste. I heard it used to be seasoned even better, it was just the way I like it.
Chorizo and sauce nice and spicy, juicy, good.

They forgot my avocado, the only downfall. The service was fast on this to-go order, I will definitely be back when I am in Bridgeport and will try different things on their menu to compare.

(Not so sure about the elotes/stuffed pretzel place under the Archer/Halsted bridge that I went to afterward, however! Too much butter!)

I am absolutely obsessed with Tacos Erendira.  I seriously have had to cut myself off from this place because I was eating it SEVERAL times a week and the scale was not being nice to me.

I've tried almost everything here but the only thing I ever order is the chile rellenos tacos.  They are AMAZING!  They are really greasy and messy but that just adds to how much I love them.  Make sure to get the pork sauce!  If you're lucky they'll even pour some of it on your rice and beans.

I've eaten at basically all of the taco places in Bridgeport and this one is miles ahead of the others.

Don't get stuck with a credit card because this place only takes cash.

Back before he self-destructed, George Michael warned us, "Nothing looks the same in the light." I thought he was talking about the regret of lost love/booty call/whatever. Turns out, he was imploring me not to eat drunk food sober.

I'm a fan of drunk food. As someone who... has some years on his high school graduation, after a night of sip sippin' on sizzurp, it's nice to have something in your belly to soak up all the grown-up juice you've imbibed. In gratitude, it's likely that return to said drunk food location to repeat the experience. Caveat: you do so drunk.

Eating drunk food while sober... eh. The tacos at Tacos Erendira weren't terrible, but I'm in no rush to come back. I got three tacos because I was pretty hungry (another day had gone by without eating) and I was planning on getting a drink on, so I needed a base. I got a chicken and two al pastors. To my great surprise, I favored the chicken taco over the al pastors. Chicken tacos are the food equivalent of white noise. You eat them, they're okay and you move on to the next. The chicken tacos here were better than I expected. The meat was seasoned and nicely portioned. The al pastor were a bit of a let down. The meat tasted more charred, than flavorful and the sweet pineapple kick was nowhere to be found. Both tacos were pretty much meat and tortilla.

The dining room is large and clean. Everything's well lit. It's not a divey establishment. These are all pluses. The biggest plus, however, is the fact that TE serves RC Cola products, INCLUDING FRUIT PUNCH NEHI. I won't come back to eat (sober) but a post-Maria's chicken taco binge with FRUIT PUNCH NEHI might (*might*) have to happen.

    FRUIT PUNCH NEHI!!!

Every time I eat here, my belly hurts. Their food is so amazingly delicious, I cannot stop eating even once I know I am full. YUMMY, yummy, yummy.
Their salsa is fresh and delicious. The salsa verde hot sauce is over the moon delicious.I think I love the chicken and ground beef tacos best, but you really cannot go wrong with anything on their menu. I even eat their refried beans, and I normally hate refried beans.
I also love that it is a family-established restaurant, still run but the family. Very cozy eat-in room--nothing fancy, but lots of fun art to look at while you stuff your face with the best burritos, enchiladas, tostadas, and tacos in town.
If you love authentic, fresh, simple Mexican food, look no further than Erendira. Oh, they are cash only (and no booze), but you won't need much as their prices are very affordable.

I order from here at least once a week.  My favorite used to be the carne asada taco, but two weeks ago, I was enlightened.

After watching the special man friend order this week after week, I finally caved in and gave it a try.  Chiles rellenos.  HOLY CRAP!  It's DELICIOUS!  It's perfectly melted in the middle, with a slight crust at the edge from the grilling.

And what better way to wash everything down than with a big cup of agua de jamaica?  The dispenser is usually filled with horchata so many people don't know about it.  It's behind the counter, but yes, they do have it!

In an effort to safeguard our empty stomachs from the soon-to-be-had cocktails at nearby Maria's Community Bar, we stopped by Tacos Erendira. We decided to take our munchies to go because a.) I called Maria and she said it was fine to bring our food to her bar (beer tasting bar seats are clutch, obv) and... let's just say an unsavory gangsta-daddy was creeping us out with his (lack of) parenting skills. Move along, nothing to see here!

I ordered a standard carne asada burrito and requested the tomatoes be 86'd (per usual) and sour cream added. We waited for at least ten minutes despite the restaurant being close to empty... fine by me, as I was looking forward to fresh Mexican fixins'.

We got to Maria's just in time to snag the last two bar seats. I unwrapped my burrito, took a bite and quickly realized, DAMN, this is one messy, wet burrito. The meat was very saucy and greasy - overall, I found the flavor to be extremely uniform (read: booooring).  Basically, it was straight up meat! I detected a small sprinkling of cheese, but the sour cream was nowhere to be found. Yes, I realize the thing was a bargain at $4 and I only paid fifty cents to add sour cream, but when I'm expecting something and don't get it... bring on the pout.

Potentially, this may have been a 4-star review if we reversed the order of events and drank first and ate here later. Too bad I'm indifferent to testing this theory.

I asked the young ladies at the bakery where would they eat and they pointed me in the direction of Taco Erendira, Inc.

I tend to eat steak or chicken and this day I decided on steak tacos. The tacos were flavorful and the steak was tender.

The service was quick and polite. Steak tacos and cake make for an excellent quick and cheap dinner. I will eat the combination again.

In the battle of the Bridgeport taquerias, Taco's Erendira reigns supreme.

Spacious with painted walls and plenty of seating, it makes the taco experience a little more refined. Even better, their mexican ART-ifacts make great conversation pieces that divert attention away from the salsa dripping from your mouth. "Hey, LOOK AT That!" It has all of the aesthetics of a cozy restaurant with the no nonsense attitude of a hole-in-the-wall.

Bridgeport beware, they aren't open late enough to be there when the going gets tough. This is my first choice for a taco and burrito craving in the area so when I can't reach them post-inebriation, I die a little inside. Or rather, the other taco I settle on, kills me a little bit.

Not eating animals? NO PROBLEM! Veg-heads are treated well with succulent and savory chiles rellenos and generous portions of avocado and guacamole in their Mexican entree of choice.

As my idol Whitney Houston croons, "Save the best for last". It was the last stop on my tour of Bridgeport taquerias and it made the journey well worth the lackluster flavors and stray peas from the other joints.

As of the time of this writing, taqueria san jose has 39 reviews and 4 stars, while tacos erendira (inc.) has 17 reviews and the same rating.

I like to think of these two restaurants the way I think of the civil war. The south is represented by taqueria san jose, not because they endorse slavery, but because the overall condition of their patriarch is somewhat bleak. The north is represented by tacos erendira not because they are liberating anyone by any means, but simply because their burrito is better. Canada is represented by Carbon which is probably your best bet, but it's too damn far away from Bernice's, and it closes too early.

The main problem with tacos erendira is it closes way too early. Why would a business owner blow it's premium bar proximity and close around 10pm when the average drunk's burrito desire hasn't grown to it's optimal potential? I'm 100% sure that if erendira's hours matched san jose's, erendira would get more business. The burrito is the best you can find anywhere off halsted street as far as I'm concerned.

Alright, maybe my review is flawed. I haven't given a lot of their other stuff a try. Just the burrito, and the horchata. Being a vegetarian in a mexican restaurant can be tough. Sure, you might ask for a vegetarian taco, but what the hell's that going to do for you? You need something big, thick, and firm. Yeah, that's what she said, but it's also what tacos erendira gives you. Go over to san jose, you'll be given this giant messy tortilla filled with ingredients that aren't nearly as time-tested/mother-approved.

I think, maybe, this is not good sober food.

I work near Tacos E and decided to treat myself to Mexican food for lunch while stone cold sober with co-workers. I decided on Tacos Erendira because my girl Emily N. had written a rockstar review and I was ready to be wowed BUT I hadn't taken into account that I am a veggie gal the rave reviews were all for meat foodies. There wasn't much on the menu for veggies so I just got tacos with avocado. Sadly, they were pretty boring. I had to load them up with salsa to get any taste.

I might go back after a late night out or something but I think I'm a bigger fan of Taqueiria San Jose up the block. Oh! And I also didn't think it was as cheap as the reviews led me to believe. I got 3 little veggie tacos and an horchata and it was $10 and I was still kind of hungry. The service is good though... very attentive and they did a great job with my lunch group.

A few weeks ago, I ducked out of work early and joined my girlfriend for both games of the Tigers/White Sox double-header (a five-star experience in and of itself.)

There was about a 3-hour lull between the two games, so we strolled over to Halsted for Tacos Erendira (as suggested by a friend of m'lady).

Not much to not like here. My trio of tacos were all delicious. The Al Pastor was perfectly seasoned, the steak was juicy, and the chicken (which I ordered as kind of a throw-in) was otherworldly. By far the best taqueria taco I've eaten. Girlfriend's guacamole burrito was also thoroughly enjoyed. All washed down with a Dr. Pepper from a soda fountain station that has no business having serving Dr. Pepper (See: RC, Diet Rite, 5 different flavors of Nehi).

The only downer was the lack of complimentary tortilla chips. As it was my first time here, I don't know if that's something they never do, or if the staff was just not on their game. Either way, the deliciousness of the meals keeps this place's 5 stars in-tact.

Two beers at the ball game, or for the same price, an unbelievable Mexican feast? The choice is obvious, people.

So it's a friday night. It's rainy outside, I'm stuck working late, and I'm in an all around crappy mood. Enter Erendira.

The chile's rellenos here are freaking orgasmic! I don't even think I could ever eat these in front of anyone for fear of embarrassment. I mean, it's like I'm Sally Albright, sitting in front of a plate of food, moaning and groaning in sheer ecstacy. Except I'm not faking it.

In all fairness, I probably shouldn't even be reviewing this place because the only thing I've ever ordered here is the chiles rellenos. I can't help it. I go in with the intentions of ordering something else but the pleasure center of my brain always takes over and somehow make my lips say those magic words each and every time. Chiles Rellenos. The red sauce has pork in it and the cheese oozes out everywhere. Geez, now I'm jonesin for some. The horchata is also wonderful. And if you're there in the summer months, get the fresh limeade. Its so refreshing and I'll bet a shot of tequila wouldn't hurt it.

Every time I stop in there's cops eating here. If you don't trust my personal opinion, take it from the cops. They always know where to get the best food on the cheap.

Been wantin' to review this place a while now. It's close to my job so we either drive there or have food delivered. Well, today being Cinco De Mayo, we ordered and once again--were NOT disappointed. Today I had the steak nachos and they were the bomb. The cheese was melted perfectly. Someone got an order of the salsa chips, which they shared. I gotta tell you about 'em. You know they're fresh 'cause on some days they're peppered and spicier than on other days. Same for the green sauce. Early in the week it's different than later in the week. That means it's made all the time and it doesn't stick around long to get old. The burritos are big and full with meat (and/or beans). Can't eat here too often or I'd blow up. Suffice to say I really like this place and recommend it. Can't say more 'cause just like with most foods I love eatin' I'm gittin' sleepy now and... Zzzzzzzzz........

There are two Mexican restaurants virtually next door to each other near 32nd and Halsted, and they offer food that is delicious in completely different ways.

I doubt that the food at Tacos Erendira is supremely more healthy than the food at Taqueria San Jose, but something about the food definitely feels healthier.  Tortillas are soft and delicate, and the beans and rice both taste like they were made fresh for your order and are bursting with flavor.

Horchata is great, not powdery or kool-aid-textured like at a lot of Mexican places.  The red and green sauces are on point, and the veggie burritos don't disappoint, other than the American cheese mentioned by one of the previous reviewers.

The chile relleno, my personal favorite for Mexican comfort food, is definitely on point here.

If you are in the mood for somewhere to relax in a quiet but fun environment, head over here.  If you are looking for super greasy and delicious Mexican fast food, head over to Taqueria San Jose.

    Mmmmmm burritos.

This is my favorite burrito place in the city.  It's open late, the service is quick, they have take-out or eat-in and everyone is friendly.  I've had several other menu items like the taco dinner, nachos and obviously the burrito and they were all delicious.  The location is convenient (most people in Bridgeport can walk to the restaurant) and it's a nice place to sit an eat if you don't want to take your meal to-go.  There's yummy chips and salsa for those who eat in and the servers are always super friendly and accommodating of bad Spanish (yay!).

I love you Tacos Erendira and want to have your little taco babies!

There is NOTHING in this world like a chicken taco from here.  The sauce they cook the chicken in is nothing short of spectacular and I swear the cheese was just made in the back by someone's grandma.

Aside from the chicken taco I'm a whore for the chicken burrito with tomato and cheese.  Back in the day when I worked at Comiskey Park and they were on 35th and Halsted I used to eat there almost daily.  Now that I'm in the burbs I get a special ache in my soul when I'm craving a good taco.

Hey, it will work when you need some tacos.

I eat a ton of Mexican food for lunch, as I work near Midway and am swamped with Mexican options, which means I rarely get a Mexican craving for dinner.  I have, on occasion, had a hankering and gotten down on some Erendira for dinner... and I like it well enough.  My roommate hates it, and is disgusted that I at times choose to get my taco fix from them.  I like the cheese, and the chicken is consistently pretty good.  It works, if you are sober enough, try making your way to Carbon instead.
