Went here for lunch with a Groupon. We sat outside on the deck, so I cannot comment on the shows/music that they have going on. The service is basically what everyone else says about it, there is virtually none. Â My partner ordered the Girdwood sandwich, which is a vegetarian mix of red pepper hummus, cucumbers, and alfalfa sprouts - it actually looked delicious and she enjoyed it, especially when subbing the yam fries for the regular fries. I ordered the pulled pork carnitas tacos, which came out to be three - a generous portion. The cotija chesse and salsa verde were a nice touch - but you must like spicy hot! The pork was a little dry, but that is par for the course here in Anchorage, I am learning. I long for the juicy delicious carnitas they have at Chipotle (fast food) in the lower 48. Â Anyway, the burgers at the next table looked decent too. I think it would be an ok place for simple food and local music if that is what you are in to. But don't expect attentive service.
Review Source:Service is getting better! They have some amazing shows coming up this summer & are doing what they can to draw people in the afternoon as well- trivia, movies, etc.
Drinks are also more consistent- & more interesting than they had been.
I still wouldn't plan to eat here, unless it is the end of the night...
A group of us went to see the Monday night showing of The Big Lebowski. How awesome is that! They have a great screen for the movie, sound was a big off. Too loud but just drink a few extra of the specials and you won't notice! What you will notice is the food. Fries were cold, the bacon wrapped shrimp something or others were just bad. I can't even describe a taste for those. The crab stuffed mushrooms were frozen to the microwave worthy. Someone in a our group did order a BLT and said it was a good one so there you go; get the BLT without the fries.
All in all it's a bar, go for the drinks which are great. If they keep up the Monday night movie special I will have dinner somewhere else and drinks and popcorn there.
The service is not the fastest but it is friendly.
I attended THE LOOK'S VALENTINE'S DAY LINGERIE SHOW February 14th at TapRoot.
My Experience:
Food: Horrible. I ordered 2 Melts w/ Fries. I received Melts that were literally cold along with recycled fries. Yes I said, "recycled fries." Why you ask? Well, because the fries were cold and looked to have been reheated a multitude of times. I can subside with food that don't meet my standards and say it was not bad but cold dishes is a no NO.
Staff: I did not get the opportunity to mingle with the staff much but they seemed nice and respectable.
The Band (SuperFrequency): Great Band
The Look Lingerie Show: It was Short (30-45minutes)..., but it was Nice.
Host: Pretty Good (Kelly Lee Williams & Jill Williams (owner of The Look)
*** Taproot would be a descent place to drink, listen to music and socialize with friends,, Just don't expect the best out of their kitchen  ****
I had been there several times before, for a weekly TV program that was being recorded. Then, I Â usually just had a drink or fries ($8)
This time, I went there with a group of 5 friends for lunch. (One had a groupon.) We ordered food right away. The server seemed disappointed that we didn't order drinks other than soda and asked us several times. The prices were high, $10 for a hamburger and $12 for a fish sandwich. The service was slow, despite the fact there was only one party beside ours. My fish sandwich came with fries, which were room temperature, as were the others'. The sandwich was on a white roll, which fell apart after the first bite. I had to ask for tartar sauce (Who serves a fish sandwich without tartar sauce!)
It was 2PM, so there was no live music, nor did we expect any. But the canned music was loud and a guy kept fiddling with the sound system.
I don't think I would go there again, except for programming.
Pretty chill bar, enjoyed the first solo singer/guitarist until I noticed his wedding ring lol, just kidding!!! But he was good, I just didn't catch his name, Thomas Wright? Something like that? Not too sure. But anyway, continuous music, not too loud so great place to listen to music while chatting with friends.
Service was pretty good too, I didn't tip correctly when closing my tab, calculated wrong (less) tips due to being all buzzed, sorry my handsome server!!
I'd definitely go back again, love the feel..$5 cover, not too bad at all!
I don't understand why most of the people reviewing this place went on a weekday, don't get the real Tap Root experience, and just complain about the food. They have a few select menu items that I've always thought were great, they have amazing halibut tacos. It is a bar, don't go expecting the food to be the staple of the place. The music scene is probably the best you will find in Anchorage, the bartenders are great, just way understaffed. In fact, my biggest complaint would probably be that they need more waiters and bartenders.
Review Source:I hadn't been back to this place for about a year because the service and food was so bad. Â I was there last night early (before the music started) and the service was excellent. Â The waitress was very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about the beers. Â My beer was excellent and my friend, who had the can of the month, Â enjoyed it. Â We ordered chips and salsa. Â The chips were great - hot and fresh. Â But the salsa was pretty much tasteless. Â As the place started filling up the poor waitress was running around as fast as she could. Â We stopped her and ordered fish and chips. Â Things kinda went downhill from there. Â The order arrived pretty quick but the chips (fries) were thin and limp. Â The fish was encased in some kind of batter that seemed a bit undercooked. Â The music started and wow, talk about horrible acoustics. Â The singer came across as screechy and the sound level was deafening. Â It was not enjoyable and we didn't stay long. Â This place is really small and that might have something to do with the bad sound but Blues Central is also small and some how they don't seem to have that problem. Â Needless to say, that's where we headed, our fish and chips pretty much uneaten.
Review Source:I am a glutton for punishment.
I accompanied some companions here, since one said she was paying (what kind of person would I be to pass on free noms?) and the idea of socializing was also keen. We get there a little before 9pm, and it's "blue's night." There's a scattering of a dozen folks in the place, but so much for having an opportunity to talk; we had to yell at each other to converse over the volume of the band. They must have turned it up to 11, a number which would have been more appropriate for a packed house, but I could had slid across the hardwood floor from one side to the other, wearing only my socks, because it was that empty, therefore totally unnecessary to have it so loud.
3 drinks took about 20 minutes to come out. The table behind us that showed up after us got theirs first. From the time we finally got to order to actually getting the food was another 30 minutes. And for some ridiculous reason, they had one server, so as more and more people trickled in to be deafened by the music, she had to bounce around and tend to everyone else. The bartender, meanwhile, had hardly three customers at the bar and spent most of his time standing around doing nothing. Literally. I'd glance over there, and he'd be just there.. standing. You'd think that if you saw a fellow coworker dashing between tables and the expo that you would do something to help out?
I remember in my very first posting about TR about this game that the servers play. I like to call it "How Long Can We Wait Until We Refill a Customer's Glass," and boy, was our server trying real dang hard that night to win. One of the dining companions took our glasses and found the water cooler to refill us. It's one thing if it's a self-serve, I get it. But there's no sign, no verbal invite by our server to say, "Hey, you see that blue water jug there? You can serve yourself if you would like to!" and plus, the other table got their own pitcher of water, while I was trying to suck every last drop from my glass like a hallucinating heatstroke victim trapped in the middle of the Sahara.
So, I'm just getting over some wicked cold, and I'm dying to finally taste something. I see they have flourless chocolate cake. My serving actually came out looking like it had been two pieces squished together, of which another companion mentioned, "They must have been wanting to get rid of it, that's why you have two slices!" which in retrospect, must have been a sign that this cake was lying around for awhile. But I digress -- Â what would be more perfect than a strong cup of black coffee? Well, in the 30 minutes from order to receiving food (and to scavenge for our own water, because our waitress didn't come by once to check up on us or offer another round of beers), no coffee. Food came, and as soon as the plates hit the table, she was gone. Water-fetching companion took it upon herself to follow the waitress and ask for the coffee. Companion returned: "She said their coffee machine is broken, and she forgot to tell you."
Okay. That sucks. But how do you forget to tell someone that? I know she's busy. I know what it's like working in the food industry and being super swamped. But she didn't even come by to ask if I wanted to order another drink. Had she come again, I would have gladly ordered that merlot I was eyeing. But she didn't even sweep by until we were almost completely done with our meals. Not even a "oh hey, I'm sorry I forgot to tell you we're out of coffee, would you want some tea or something else?" In times I've screwed up on people's orders in past jobs, since I'm such a pushover and hate to think I've upset someone, I practically prostrate myself in front of a person when I'm out of whipped cream for their mocha. Not like I'm expecting a song-and-dance from any server, but wouldn't you think one would calculate the following equation: "Customer ordered object A, but resources indicate our A supplies are depleted. GOTO Offer Alternative Option."
Other things to nitpick? Another companion's burger bun looked positively blackened. The steamed manila clams that the menu says are a whole pound, I think they were including the weight of the giant bed of lettuce the tiny clams with tiny bits of meat had rested upon. The bread that came with some dip served only as a vessel to carry the dip -- it had zero flavor or good taste. They were pathetic slivers of white bread, quickly toasted. While I must say that the chocolate cake was tastier than the carrot cake I had previously ordered, shortly thereafter, an epic bowel battle has been brewing inside of me, and that strangely large and greasy slab of cake may be winning.
I am so done with this place. I only have gone for socializing, but never do I want to subject myself to TR anymore. I think the only reason why they stay open is for their beers and the hipsters, but soon enough the latter will discover how even crap food and service aren't cool.
It was almost empty at the time of our visit. It will be the first and last time we go. The good: blueberry Crème brûlée-awesome, the buns very good also. Service was ok, though it took quite some time for the food to arrive. Good presentation-everything looked great. The bad: the hamburgers, large but not tasty, bacon almost raw, very under cooked. I had the Spenard Lei Burger, my wife had one with bacon, roast beef, sausage, and a fried egg. The fries are very salty, and nothing special.  The burgers are probably Angus beef, not my favorite. They are fried, not grilled. We had nothing to drink, with tip ($7) it was $42 for 2 burgers, and one Crème brûlée.
Review Source:I give this place three stars because it can be fun. I have seen some good live acts, and the beer selection is decent when the current keg isn't kicked.
Honestly I would give a better rating if their service had a better range than mediocre to pathetically poor. If you want to speed things up, don't wait for a server to come to you...
The food is decent, but not worth the price, however, they really do have some of the best music in town. Â And to reiterate they do have some good beer.
Vibe is fun later in the day, with a good band and good friends. Do NOT go here looking to meet people; there are much better places in town to do so.
I was a little wary of visiting Tap Root for the first time after reading all the so-so and downright critical reviews, but they had a groupon and I figured what the heck, I'd give them a whirl. My friend and I showed up just as they opened on a Wednesday night. We got to choose our own table so we sat on barstools by the front window so we could watch all the Spenardians come and go outside. It was toasty warm inside. The waiter was great. Another guy (perhaps the manager?) stopped by each table to make sure everyone was enjoying their food. The cook who brought us our dinners seemed genuinely happy we were there. I got the burger & yam fries and a house salad. All were very tasty. My friend got the Bride of Girdwood and she liked it alot. We ordered a couple of beers. Seems like alot of the unhappy yelp reviewers were there during busy times -- on Friday or Saturday night or during live music performances? If a friend asked, I'd recommend going early for good food and service but if you're planning to go for a show, maybe eat dinner somewhere else first then just enjoy the show and beer at Tap Root. The Hoedown Throwdown was happening later that night and I kinda wanted to stick around but alas it did not start till 9 pm and this old lady tries to be in bed with a good book and a glass of red wine by that hour on a weeknight. All in all, I was happy with Tap Root and plan to pay them a return visit.
Review Source:I really really wanted to like this place. We have gone three times now and the service gets worse and the food never gets better. The staff is wonderfully friendly but it's rare you get a refill without seekIng out an employee and directly asking. Even then you are lucky to get it back in less then 10 minutes. Tonight we arrived at 6:30 and while they were pretty busy they still had some open tables. It took well over an hour to get our dinner. We have tried 10 different items from the menu and the only thing decent is the halibut tacos. Too bad they were cold tonight.
Three tries. That's all you get Tap Root. I'm sorry because you have potential but I'm not wasting my money in hopes you'll get better.
Honestly, Tap Root is just "okay". It was my first time there and I had been told great things, but I wasn't blown away. We went on a Sunday and there were quite a few people in there considering is was so early. The service was a little slow, but friendly. It seemed like there were quite a few regulars there at the time and they were a little distracting to our server. The good was good but not outstanding. My favorite was the pineapple carrot cake which was really, really good! Good selection of beers too. I'm not sure I'd go back for food, but I'd probably go back for beers and a show.
Review Source:I really wanted to like this place, considering how many of my friends play their music there. Unfortunately it just wasn't a great experience when I finally got to check it out during a recent visit back to Alaska.
I was meeting a few people who had a table, but I opted to get a beer at the bar expecting table service to be glacially slow given the place was packed. Turned out I bet on the wrong horse there. The bartender completely ignored myself and a few other guys waiting for a long time. An attractive woman walked up and joined the queue, and he promptly served her and went back to paying no attention to the other three people waiting. Finally a second bartender came out of the back and took care of the rest of us. I paid my $4-5 for some IPA, forget which, and went and joined my friends.
It was an open mic night and we watched an assortment of performances ranging from not-even-funny-bad to what-the-hell-are-they-doing-*here*-good. It got close to the end of the night and my group started worrying because one of us had signed up early and still hadn't been called. He went and checked with the guy managing the event and found he'd been bumped. Bumped, so that the guy who played a song dedicated to "all the sexy ladies in here", called "Sexy Lady", and consisting 50% of "sexy laaaadaaaay" repeated over and over again, could play. Did I mention he seemed to have taken most of his inspiration from the worst of the Nickleback era? Yeaaaahhhh.....
My friend ended up playing a quick impromptu set on the frozen ass patio to a broad circle of shivering smokers. Knocked out a couple songs before the cold started getting to us and we left as the last act inside wrapped up. I doubt I'll go back unless one of my friends has a show booked there, and even then it'll be a tough sell.
I try to avoid the Tap Root as it is known for being omgpackedandwaytoobusy, but we had a Groupon for food so I thought we would give it a go. The end result: No. Aside from a nice local beer selection which I am told revolves rather frequently, the food was pretty terrible and what arrived was not what was listed on the menu. The halibut tacos (supposedly the best in town) arrived on corn tortillas (which were not noted on the menu, and are not in my top 20 choices for vehicles of food delivery) topped with feta.....had the menu mentioned feta I would have chosen something else as it is the one cheese I can't stand...Had the menu disclosed exactly what would have arrived I would have chosen something else. Similarly, my husband ordered the steak tacos, also on corn tortillas (blech) which was to come with a side of spanish rice and black beans. I had to ask the waitress about the sides, and she came back with a side cup of boiled black beans (really?) and plain white rice (again, really?). The white rice (possible cooked by a Spaniard?) was poorly cooked as each of the 2 bites we both took had uncooked grains in it, forcing us to abandon the rice to save any dental work we have.
Though usually busy, the crowd hadn't arrived yet and we were one of only 3 tables eating. Perhaps this was too much for the waitress as it took for-ev-er to order and receive our food....The bartender checked on us more than she did.
I'm sorry Tap Root. I want to love you, but I can't. Let's just say I'm glad I had a Groupon.
I came to Anchorage in Sept 2011 so I don't know what the "old" Taproot was like. Â However, I found this one perfectly nice. Â My boyfriend and I went to use a groupon I had purchased for 2 soups/salads and 2 entrees for $20. Â We went on a jazz after dark night and the band started about halfway through our meal. Â
I got the Thai peanut salad with chicken and the halibut tacos. Â I also ordered a soda. Â The Thai peanut salad was great - much heartier than I anticipated with a tangy sweet sauce. Â And the halibut tacos are the best I've had in town so far. Â Much better than the ones at Bear Tooth (which are also good, but not as good). Â At regular price the tacos are $16, but because you get three huge ones and they are so amazingly delicious, I think it's totally worth it and would be willing to pay full price at a later date. Â Â
My bf got the soup of the day which he really enjoyed, and the gyro with sweet potato fries. Â It looked messy to eat but he was pretty happy with it. Â
The music was fine but nothing amazing. Â It got a little loud but it was fine. Â It wasn't really crowded when we went, but I think it was a Monday night. Â The food took a while to come out, but since it was so good that's ok with me. Â And the waiter was challenging to track down at times. Â However, he was a very nice waiter who didn't charge us for the sodas or the extra chicken on the Thai peanut salad, so we tipped him nicely and left with full tummies.
I really miss the old location.
This place is terrible now, every time I go there I swear its my last time going there.
Anyway, many reasons for the two stars. The first thing that you do when you go here is pay a cover and get carded, nothing like the super cute feel this place use to have when it was on Huffman. It's a completely different feel and philosophy.
The ambiance is alright at best. They have a confused theme going on, where they have huge wood benches and tables, then they have these (obviously left over from players house of rocker) metal metallic stools and tables that are forever uncomfortable and always wobbly. The stools are too tall for the table, have no back, and have a seriously short time limit to sitting (soo awkward).
My boyfriend and I went for the Groupon a few weeks ago, had we paid full price for our meal, I would have been quite upset over the whole ordeal. We ordered some great sounding things off the menu after about 30 minutes of waiting. She took out order, got our drinks... an hour later they somehow forgot our food, so they were going to "comp" a dish for us. Which didn't help since it was a groupon and you cant exactly do that. We considered using it another day, but I honestly didn't want to come back again and do this all over again.
I don't like writing bad reviews, so I waited until I came here a few times in order to assess the quality as a whole on multiple experiences. Every time is the same pretty much. Bad service, mediocre food, awkward seating arrangements, amazing beer, and great shows.
My recommendations for making this place tolerable is skip the food, and come here for a concert and order a few great beers. If you're standing (or dancing) listening to good music drinking a tasty (and local) beer, you wont notice how inadequate the servers and food are, and you'll love it!
More 2 1/2 Stars. Â Tap Root has all the promise of a good experience. Â But is pretty much a let down. Â It's in the old Fly By Night Club space. Â Good building, Good parking. Â They completely changed the decor, which it probably needed. Â They were going for a rustic feel, but all I got was yellow wood everywhere. Â I had the $40 Groupon and it was getting ready to expire. Â I had groupon bucks so it only cost me $10 out of pocket for the $40, can't beat that. Â My husband and I went shortly after they open (4pm) and seated ourselves. Â The seating choices reminded me more of the seating at Chilkoot Charlies than a normal sit down restaurant. Â No booths really, unless you count the suuuuppper long one that faces the stage. Â We choose to sit by the outside windows at a pub height tables (most are pub height) with stools for seating. Â No backs on the stools. Â Just stools. Â Like I said before reminded me of Koot's. Â The wait staff was friendly and turned us onto a new local brewery, King Street. Â We ordered a pitcher or King Street's Amber. Â It was good. Â $20. Â The Groupon did not count towards alcohol so we scanned the menu to make the most of our $40. (I think if you don't use it in the single visit you lose it). Â We decided on the wings appetizer, the cheeseburger with bacon for him and the halibut tacos for me. Â They were out of wings so we chose the fish and chips. Â Like other reviewers have said, I will say again the fish (halibut I think) on the fish and chips appetizer is like the preformed frozen fish you would buy in a bag at Carrs, place on a cookie tray and bake up for toddlers. Â Â Not that I would not eat such a thing. Â But at a restaurant, charging these types of prices, it did not meet my standards. Â We ate it. Â Our entrees arrived and my husband said he really liked his burger with bacon. Â He was stuffed. Â My halibut tacos were good on the so-so side of things. Â I think the main turn-off for me was that same preformed halibut like our appetizer. Â Dry tasteless halibut. Â The corn taco shells were nice, and the toppings were good. Â A little too much "corn" for my taste (see photo). Â Almost like they were covering up the lack of quality halibut in the tacos. Â But three tacos I was stuffed. Â My husband got an extra pint of the Amber $6. Â Without our Groupon, with tip (20%) we spent, or would have spent, $78.00. Â We typically do the same sort of dining at Bear Tooth for less than that, and I rate Bear Tooth 5 stars. I would like to see Tap Root either step it up with the food and the seating. Â Or maybe just embrace the atmosphere and do more a low cost menu. Â I don't know. Â But it doesn't match up to me. Â Blah.
Review Source:Just had to see the return of the Whale Fat Follies. Â During the WFF the menu is v limited. Halibut Tacos, Hamburger, Grilled Chicken Salad. Â The 3 tacos were tasty but light on the fish. Â The burger & fries excellent. Â They get 4 stars for their great selection of AK and NW Beers and their servers.
Review Source:I tried really hard to like this place, because I liked the other place. Â The bottom line is the service sucks, and the management must know that and nothing has changed. Â I've eaten there five times, and it's always a chore getting the food unless you are at the bar. Â The food is over priced. Â Salad is good. Tacos are good. Â Beer selection is good. Â But the hippie server vibe doesn't cut it when you are spending $13 for an entree. Â Live music is usually good, but it doesn't appear they are booking much local music other than the same four or five bands - a lot seem to be out of towners.
Review Source:The only saving grace for this place is its beer selection, Â They also offer a selection of bourbons but I haven't tried any of those. Â The food is mediocre and not consistent. Â I've been in here when the sweet potato fries were hot, crisp, and delicious, and other times when they are soggy, greasy, and obviously refried to try to resuscitate them after they have been sitting under a heat lamp for awhile. Â Same with the burgers, sometimes thick and juicy and other times gray and tasteless low grade frozen patties. Â
The menu offers a Fish and Chips appetizer for $12 - and advertises them as "battered and fried juicy chunks of halibut" served with fries. Â While the fish was battered and fried, there were no "juicy chunks" in sight. Â Little morsels of some sort of tasteless white fish no bigger that the end of my little finger (I posted a photo - lets see if they leave it up). Â It looked like something you would buy in the frozen food section of Safeway with a Mrs. Paul's label - a little individual serving of frozen battered fish and some fries. Â $3.99 would be a stretch but a much more fair price for this app. Â They should be ashamed of this menu item. Â
The hummus platter (Aphrodite's Kiss) is on the other end of the spectrum. Â Good serving size and quality ingredients. Â I love the marinated onions and the roasted red pepper in the hummus.
The chipotle honey wings also looked like they were frozen battered wings from Tysons with some spicy goo drizzled over them. Â I'm not a big wings fan but these looked pretty sad, especially for the prices this place charges.
I want to love this place. Â I've been a customer since they first opened in their little hole-in-the-wall place in South Anchorage (I loved their weekend breakfast menu!). Â They focused on providing a good selection of beer, including a few you couldn't find elsewhere. Â The menu was somewhat limited but for the most part the food was good. Â The servers were friendly and made sure you had a cold beer even when the place was packed.
And packed it was in the evening when they had live music which was almost every night. Â I understand why they wanted to move - to expand into a larger place to be able to serve more fans. Â But it appears that they have forgotten their roots. Â They sell overpriced mediocre food and the service is on par with the food. Â I've given TapRoot several 2nd and 3rd chances but the only reason I'll go back again is if there is a band I really want to hear and I'm not hungry
Went for a "Mr. White Keyes" show - he does a song and dance show that makes fun of all things Alaska.
Sat at the bar and enjoyed a good selection of beers. Â There is a small menu of appetizers and burgers to nosh on while you watch a show, but I would not plan dinner here.
Good times.
Great little "dive" type of a place! Came across this place a few months back on my first trip to Anchorage and liked it.
Returning this week, a group of us were looking for a place to go after work, and we decided on Tap Root. The micro brews they have are very good. They also offer a flight of beers for $9, to where you can try a wide selection.
Our server (damn I wish I could remember her name...) was very friendly and outgoing. Had great humor and caught on to our sarcasm when appropriate, and fired back well. Watching some of the other staff, they all seemed to be of the same demeanor.
Revisited the chipotle wings...they have a really good sweet & hot sauce that comes with the wings...the big burger they have is tasty, with proscuitto and fried onion strings. Didn't try much more, but didn't need to. Plenty of food.
They feature some sort of live entertainment each night. They even have a dinner theater show that they perform now. The band was pretty good the other night.
Great mix of people, from the artsy to the uppity. But everyone seems to mix well.
Great joint to hang out. One of my new faves in Anchorage.
Well I guess all good things must come to an end. I understand the reason for moving since the other place was a lot smaller but this new place made me very sad.
The decor is nice with wood floors, the interior is a little dark because of the choice of paint, but nice open areas to sit and watch the bands play. Came here in the middle of last week and ordered a beer salad and soup.
The salad was strawberry avocado and came out all wilted and warm, with the dressing minimally spread. The soup was the house specialty, tomato coconut soup, that I had at the old place and thought divine. The soup was served on top of a cheese (parm?) ravioli and was lukewarm at best. Conclusion: food had been sitting under the warmer so the salad heated and the soup cooled. Wouldn't have minded if the beers were good. They too came out cool, though not cold, and I really enjoy cold beer. Service was ok, though I had to find my own silverware.
I will come here again in a couple of months and see if this night was just part of growing pains.
I went to see a show, not eat, so this review is about Tap Root as a music venue, which I found to be an excellent place to listen to some local bands and have some drinks.
I really liked the set up, almost dinner theater style with tables and booths surrounding the stage. Â There's a large dance floor if the music moves you.
I had a great time here, and only being in Anchorage for a long weekend, I thought this gave me a good glimpse into the city's creative scene.
To my fellow reviewers of this establishment:
The solution is simple- don't eat here!
This is an awesome place to have drinks, MAYBE an app. It's new enough of a restaurant that they should get a margin of error on the food. The bar however is excellent, boasting some of the finest beer options you'll see around(try finding a milk stout anywhere else in town). Plus, try a cocktail. These bartenders really know their stuff!
Been here twice for breakfast/brunch on Sundays. This could be such a great little place but it is not. The staff is not friendly and quite disorganized. The breakfast was long being served and the eggs were served alone on the plate with potatoes and toast coming 20 min. later! Wow, now thats bad!! I must say, the beer selection is interesting and was enjoyed.
Review Source:This kills me not to give it more stars. I would highly recommend it for beer or wine and some local music or chitter chatter. It's very conducive to friendly conversation and they have a very nice beer and wine selection. The food is interesting. Their soups are usually excellent. That is, if they're ready. Often they run out of soup  or they are not ready. The service? Don't be in a hurry. They really embrace the mellow, what's your hurry, vibe. However, I think their mellow factor also involves their cleaning habits. Things are clean on the service area, but I don't know what's going on in the kitchen and prep area. Two of our friends, as well as ourselves, have become ill after eating there. These were on 3-4 separate occasions. My husband and I always joke about whether we would even go back to a new place since we didn't get sick. Anchorage just doesn't have that much going on. But we became ill twice. That's the deal breaker for us. It breaks my heart because it has the potential to be a cool place.
