Taphouse, pub and eatery should change their name to just Taphouse, pub. Â The atmosphere is nice and relaxed during the day. Â Plenty of TVs showing sports and music playing the background. Â The wait staff is polite and knowledgeable about their beers. Â They have a nice selection of beers. Â The one thing that was not good was the food, at least the main entrees were not.
My wife had the Fresh Roasted Veggie Panini and she kept adding salt to her sandwich. Â There was no flavor to the sandwich. Â The same thing with my Turkey Burger. Â There was more flavor in the roasted red peppers than in the burger itself. Â I would not recommend going here for food why I suggested the name change. Â The food does not fit the prices they ask for them. Â It tasted as the veggies where frozen, thawed, cooked, and served. Â No seasoning and no fresh taste that veggies have. Â Turkey burgers can be delicious, but it needs to be seasoned correctly and the condiments should never be more aggressive than the meat.
I will not be returning here for the food. Â And there is nothing that really draws me back that I cannot find elsewhere in Boise.
Oh its a sports bar.....
Sports bar not, Â a Taphouse. Bitter Creek is just down the block with better food anda better beer selection. This place screams out to the "bro" crowd and shuns the educated beer drinker. The bar tender who served me had little knowledge of the beer on tap. At least this place will draw the bros off of Bitter Creek.
This restaurant has very quickly replaced The RAM for my favorite bar-food in Boise. But, let's start with the bad first.
Every time I've been to The Taphouse, the service has been atrocious. Waitstaff takes eons to acknowledge new patrons, and when you do order new drinks, they take a long time to get to you. I would understand if they hustled and attempted to treat customers like priorities, but that is not the case. As you can tell, I've never been satisfied by that aspect at this location.
However, the food is PHENOMENAL. I've enjoyed every form of burger that they offer (Kobe, chicken, and turkey). The build-your-own burger is delicious. My mom and I went for her birthday, and the chicken was perfectly seasoned and topped with a tasty garlic aioli. The fries are delicious, especially the sweet potato fries which are served with a maple sauce. Superb.
I have also ordered the pulled-pork which was not my favorite. Asked for a side of barbecue sauce, and it amped up the flavor.
Don't have your heart set on a beer, as it seems they run out of selections quite frequently. BUT, they do have a weekly beer list.
Above all, it's a GREAT place to watch a game and will satisfy your palate.
A must visit in my book.
My husband loves their beer selection. I love that they have a surprisingly nice wine selection. Their kitchen is open till 11 PM (even on Sundays), which is super helpful when you're hungry and wandering the city.
Also - the best guacamole in town. For reals - we eat a lot of guacamole.
Really solid. Â Stopped in last night to grab a bite and watch some Olympics. Flat screens lined all of the walls and the beer list was impressive. Â Great regional selections included. Â Sports bars don't bother me...I find the beer is usually cold and the food decent and The Taphouse over delivered on both. Â While their beer list is impressive (JP went with the Oatmeal while I checked out Big Sky's Summer Honey) their food menu is much smaller but the food was fairly well executed. Â JP checked out the club while I went with my standby for measuring sports bars...the buffalo chicken sandwich. Â Seriously...the best one I've had in a LONG time. Â The chicken was moist and tender with a thin layer of breading and the seasoning and sauce were awesome. Â My only gripe on the sandwich is that the menu said it was served on a whole wheat bun and it came on white. Â For sides there are a couple of choices of fries (sweet potato, rosemary and regular) or the coleslaw. Â We both opted for the slaw and it needed a bit of salt. It was served in a plastic footed bowl you mostly see used for guacamole .
Although they were packed and had live music (a guitarist playing a range of stuff including Bob Marley and Sublime) our server was very friendly and attentive. Â Super helpful with our beer picks. Â There isn't anything special about the place decor wise but does have large windows/doors that open up onto the sidewalk and a small outdoor patio. Â You are pretty much going here for the beer and probably the sports. Â I think it's a great addition to downtown.
One of the most extensive tap lists I've seen in a city of this size.
As I sat down at the bar the tender was quite informative and let me sample a couple of brews until I found my soul-ale. I settled on one of the local Porters which was jim-dandy. I then had a Monk's Blood from 21st amendment which was off the goddamn chain.
I really hope these guys do well because everyone there was super friendly
Oh, did not realize this was going to be another sports bar... the beer list was extensive, yet lacking descriptions that would provide a beer lover the attention that is needed to pick the appropriate ale. The beers were not even in any particular order on the menu. Well, scratch that. The domestics were all lumped together about 3/4 of the way down the list which seemed even odder then anything else. I had hoped to order some food, but did not want to pay the same price for the same menu items that everyone else in town has. Wife needed more time to pick out a beer, waitress couldn't give proper descriptions to answer her questions, then never came back to take the order. At that point we decided it was best to leave.
Review Source:Let me start off by saying that our party visited The Taphouse on opening day and thus, I expect that there were a few kinks still being worked out. Â Decor is nice with what appears to be recycled wood and custom light fixtures using 22oz beer bombers, but nothing hugely different from other downtown pubs. Â Our server was quick to attend to us, but was obviously still learning. Â When we asked about happy hour specials she had to go talk to another server, but was back quickly with the correct information. Â We had hoped that at least some of the local Boise micro's would be included in the $2 happy hour pints, but only domestics were included in the happy hour special. Â Seemed kind of odd to be pushing macrobrews a place like this, but they did offer $1 off all the other pours, so I ordered a Firestone Walker Double Barrel, ad did one of my companions, with the third member of our party ordering a Payette Pale. Â Our beers arrive very quickly, but once they were at the table, I was immediately disappointed. Â Our drinks arrived in pint glasses that felt like they had been stored in a deep freeze. Â Ice coated the outside of the glasses and unfortunately the beer was nearly the same temperature. Â Serving a domestic macro this way is fine, as the flavors generally don't improve with temperature, but serving something like a Firestone DBA this way just kills the taste. We didn't try any food and only stayed for one beer. Â It is nice to have another option downtown with a very deep beer menu, so I do hope that they get some of the serving kinks worked out. Â More than willing to give it another chance in the future.

Update: Â Recently visited for lunch. Â Decent food and pint of Kingpin on nitro. Â Remembered to ask for a room temp glass this time. Â Much better experience overall. Adding a star.
