Ordered from here a couple of times.I was overcharged and informed the price had changed yet the menu did not state the new price. When I returned another time I was charged the original price.I ordered delivery and an item was missing.I called and was told I would be given credit. No refund or credit was given.I asked to speak to the manager left my #.Never got a call. That is my experience.

I love this place, the food is great with generous portions and it's quite affordable. The tortas are my favorite, I picked one up tonight for $10 and my girlfriend and I splitting it couldn't finish the whole thing.
Another notable experience with this place: I took a friend of mine, who is mexican, to the restaurant and he told me the enchiladas were just like the ones his mother makes. That's a solid compliment in my book!

Ordered delivery from here the other week.  We got the nachos, a couple of tacos, and a chicken burrito, which were all decently priced.  However, the food was about 50 minutes late and the nachos were ice cold.  The rest of the food was just ok and was kind of bland.  I probably won't be ordering from here again.

THE GOOD:  It is cheap, and they give you a lot of guacamole, and it is not that expensive.  Due to a Yelp review, I got the nachos, with carne asada and a side order of guacamole.  The guacamole was fresh and homemade.  And almost all of the ingredients on the nachos were fresh. The lettuce was crisp, the tomatoes fresh, the cheese nicely shredded..All except the steak.

    THE BAD:
Yes, I am picky when it comes to food. (My dad used to own a restaurant).  Usually carne asada is made with a flank or skirt steak.  This steak? (can they legally call it that?) was grizzly and the lowest quality of steak I ever tasted.  I could not even eat the whole thing. It's a shame because if they charged like $2 more per plate, they could get a better quality meat.

    THE UGLY:
Terrible stomach ache, that kept me running to the bathroom all night.

Maybe the Yelper that tends to eat this food when she is drunk, would rate it as good, because anything edible would taste good when you are drunk, and maybe she got sick but "blamed it on the AL--AL-- AL CO HOL.." (Jamie Foxx reference)

Beware! I witnessed the cook cutting raw chicken on the same cutting board he used to cut up the lettuce, omg i almost threw up right at  the table, r u serious! That was the last time i will ever pay a visit to this dump! If you want to end up in the hospital with a serious case of stomach bacteria this is the spot!

Taqueria El Primo is very easy to pass up, or write off as just another Mexican spot in a neighborhood that has one pretty much every other store front.  I've made this mistake quite a few times, until recently.  This place is great!  Pass up it's neighbors as much as you'd like, but stop in and give this spot chance if you're in the neighborhood, or happen to live down the street.  Sure, the place isn't pretty, and may not come off fancy, but if you notice, it is usually always packed, and now, I am proud to say I know why.

I have been meaning for the longest to write a review about El Primo but I always forget! Anywho, I live right by here and I eat here all the time. The sweet thing about it is they are open 24/7 so I can get their food whenever. I don't recommend their tacos just cuz im real picky about my tacos (i don't like any fat watsoever in mine) and they tend to have fat in them. but i love their carne asada or pechuga dinners. and the carne asada nachos are the bomba! i have put so many friends on to those nachos so that now whenever they come over they have to get some. Also their fruit is sooooo fresh and soooooo good! the ladies who work there are very sweet and although they may not speak much english dont be afraid to talk to them if you dont know spanish cuz they will try to help u out as much as possible or get someone who does speak english for you.

big smiles for el primo =D

My wife had a craving for a burrito at 10pm on a Tuesday night, so I decided after 3 years of driving by Taqueria El Primo I would give it a try.  for $5 the Chicken burrito is delicious and filling.   As other yelpers have mentioned, knowing that this place is byob, my wife and I will be back with a 6 pack next time.

My bf and I frequent here whenever we're in the mood for mexican food. The staff is always nice. The burritos taste fresh and are filling. On my last visit here I ordered the gyros with fries. It is huge and for $5 you cant go wrong. Dont care much for the chips and salsa. The chips taste stale but overall the place never disappoints. AND its BYOB! We always walk in with a six pack to enjoy with our meal.

Many a night have I rolled in here and never been disappointed. The late night staff are friendly and the service is fast. The food is well spiced and the portions are right for the price! Sometimes they run out of tripas, but their lengua is second to none.
I do have to give props to this place for being open during the huge blizzard we had this past winter. I think i might cry if this place closes.

I'm giving this place 4 stars mainly for the fresh fruit salads which are always available. They make it on the spot with a mix of 4 or 5 fruits that include pineapple, jicama, mango, papaya, strawberry, watermelon, canteloupe ... you can tell what to omit or go heavy on. And the cost is only $5.00 for a large quart-size container. Sometimes they're set up outside in the parking lot, otherwise you need to park and go in.  Have a fresh orange juice while you wait, they're very proud of a huge new juicer that sits near the counter.

Their "normal" food is just fine, nothing jaw-dropping, but fresh and well-made. I've enjoyed chorizo con huevos there, and burritos. Nice people run the place, and it's open 24 hours, and they deliver.

I've lived 4 buildings down from this place for over 2 years and just recently began eating there. I wish I'd tried it sooner. First time there I had the fried steak burrito and the guacamole. I got to watch them make both. The guacamole was the best I've ever had and the burrito was picture perfect. .
Other pluses: Credit cards accepted for any amount. Open 24 hours.

Since I'm an incurable insomniac, I'm always on the lookout for 24-hour places nearby, and particularly those that take plastic (unlike so many 24-hour diners around here) in case I feel like grabbing dinner or a snack at 4:30 in the morning. I happened upon this place while plying the streets of Albany Park looking for late-night vittles. I ordered an al pastor burrito, and it was about the grossest burrito I had ever eaten. It was so bad I couldn't even finish it, and any food I've paid money for has to be really awful before I'll walk away from it.

First, I could barely detect any of the meat -- or maybe it inexplicably had the same texture as the beans, in which case I'd prefer to think there was just no meat on the damn thing at all. Second, it had CHUNKS of pineapple in it. I'm all for pineapple slivers in an al pastor burrito, but the key word is slivers, not huge chunks like you find in a Del Monte can.

In a word, I definitely won't be back.

I don't speak spanish and the workers seemed shy and didn't know a lot of english. So, it was a bit confusing where to sit (open seating), do i pay at the bar(yes!), etc. Once you do find your spot, you get chips and salsa. The salsa is very bland and I also think it tastes a little strange. The food looks good and is presented okay. But, it was so flavorless. I expected to taste a hint of fresh lime, maybe some hot peppers even some salt. I had Chicken Taquitos and Chicken Tacos. They were equally bland, even the big pile of cilantro was flavorless.

On a better note, its 24 hrs., the (frozen most likely) french fries are delicious and I won't mind going there if there's nothing else. Only because its walking distance from me, and my standards for food are low when its freezing out and I don't want to cook.

i came on false assumptions. i thought the parking lot tent sold juice!?! apparently four years of high school spanish didn't teach me that "cocteles de fruta" means fruit cocktails. sigh.

either way, the fruit was fresh and tasty. your choice of mango, papaya, pineapple, watermelon or honeydew (or some combination of the 5.) "everything" includes salt, chili pepper and lime juice. not exactly what i was expecting, but still, a-ok.

i live right next door, and one of my favorite signs of springtime is when the tent goes up on the side of el primo and the delicious limonadas and fresh fruit cups with chili powder on top begin to flow.  nice people and happy treats.

We actually call this place El Sucko.

Stopped in here after moving into the neighborhood.  The place is always full, and they have a truck in the parking lot selling fruit drinks out of pineapples and coconuts.  You'd think, that in itself, would add another star.  But, the truck isn't affiliated with El Sucko, so it doesn't.

First, we were greeting with some chips and salsa.  Hmmm, the salsa tastes a little strange.  Not sure what it is.  Because we happened to be sitting at the counter, we were watching them make said salsa... and... aha!  Yep, that would be it.  They add Orange Crush.  To the salsa.  Yuck.

The place didn't look that clean, counters were really sticky.  I had a veggie burrito, which had absolutely zero flavor.  It's as if somehow they actually took all the flavor out of the vegetables.  Weird.

BF had the steak burrito.  He said it was just average - it wasn't bad, but not good either.

Rice also had no flavor.  Neither of us even attempted the beans, due to the fact they had white specs in them.

In a neighborhood full of good mexican eats, pass on this one.
