I have gluten and dairy allergies and saw from their website that Timberlodge had a gluten free menu. Â The menu is pretty decent, but the waitress was not very helpful in working off of it with me. Â I picked out the salmon with vegetables and a potato, but because of my dairy allergy cannot have butter. Â When I asked about that, she just suggested them plain. Â She seemed to have no idea what alternatives they might have, so that it wouldn't be so flavorless. Â We ended up deciding to go without the potato and just do a double serving of vegetables, and I asked if they had some oil to put on in place of butter. Â She said they did, but when my plate arrived they were just steamed without anything on them. Â I had also asked for the salmon broiled, as it stated on the gluten free menu, assuming they would add some seasoning for flavor. Â It came completely plain, and was the most flavorless salmon I have ever had. Â Â Fortunately, I had the good sense to hang on to my leftover balsamic dressing from my salad and just spread that all over my food. Â I am not a person that likes to complain and cause a fuss, so I didn't tell the waitress how disappointed I was.
Review Source:Went here over the weekend for a friends birthday. I must say I have had a better steakhouse experience.
To start, the atmosphere of the restaurant was just off. We were seated underneath an air exchange and I swear the air conditioning was on. It's 18F in Minneapolis and I had to wear my jacket almost the entire meal. I asked our server is there was any way to adjust it because it was uncomfortable and he apologized and said there wasn't anything he was able to do about it.
Now, even though we were at a steakhouse I opted to order a sandwich instead of the steak. I ordered the Prime Rib and Onion French Dip, and a loaded potato. Quite the disappointment. The meat reminded me of Steak-umm (if anyone still remembers that) and the aus jus had absolutely no flavor. The potato was very cold, probably in part to sitting underneath basically air conditioning. One of the people we were with ordered their steak Medium-Well and it came out Mooing still. I was however impressed that the server waited at the table until she cut it open so that she didn't have to wait to catch him again. That was about the highlight of how his service was. I went 3/4 of my meal without having my tea refilled, even after asking twice. It wasn't until they were clearing the table that I was asked if I wanted a refill.
Needless to say, I think I can get a better meal at Arby's than I could here.
Had a Honey Weiss draught, a small filet (the Edmund Fitzgerald), salad, and a baked potato. Bread and salad were subpar. Bread tasted stale. Salad had soggy bacon on it that was chewy. Beer seemed watered down - maybe just that particular beer but it tasted like it was a Coors Light and not a Leinenkugle.
The steak and potato were excellent though and that's what counts. I would probably look around next time I'm in the area for a better steakhouse.
I know this is a chain, I know. Â But you know what? Â I have had good steak at both the Timber Lodge in Bloomington and the one in Duluth pretty consistently.
It's pretty simple: the server was friendly, kept our drinks filled, and apologized profusely to me when I ordered Prime Rib and they were all out. Â We even got a free dessert out of it.
Truth be told, there are lots of non-chain steakhouses in the Twin Cities area, but their prices are much higher than Timber Lodge and if your boyfriend is not a food snob and just plain wants a steak, this is the place for you.
Please don't close this one down!! Â There are only 3 left in Minnesota and I'd hate to see them all disappear.
Maybe we caught them on a bad day but I didn't enjoy this. We had a group of 5 on a Wednesday evening and apart from some people at the bar we were the only ones there. That wasn't a good sign.
The staff were great, really friendly without being overbearing. I loved the whole MN cabin theme which even extends to menu items such as the Paul Bunyan Onion. Â
Unfortunately the food wasn't that good. The French Onion soup looked great but didn't taste of anything. The steak was awful. I asked it to be medium rare and it came out very well done. To make it worse it seemed to be a rather cheap cut of meat even though it was over $20.
The bread was great and I really enjoyed the baked potato but when the highlight of a meal is a baked potato something has gone very wrong.
Oh, Timberlodge, you are so Minnesotan. That is to say, you are very unassuming, mild, non-threatening, and kind of boring. Â Still, you are good at doing what you are supposed to be doing, and that's sheltering the suburban folk from the big ol' scary city with its crazy octopus appetizers and four mouthfuls that are supposed to be a meal.
I don't remember why we went to Timberlodge the first time, but the second time was to see some friends off before they moved away. Â The service was... adequate, I suppose, although pacing was a huge problem as we went a good half hour with no bread and then suddenly BREADSALADAPPETIZERROAR. Â I know a table of 10 can be tough to manage, but that was rather silly.
As for the menu, well, I don't really know what to say. I tend to look for healthy options and I was left hanging out to dry. Â I ended up getting the salmon of the day (with Jack Daniels glaze, or rather, a sugarbomb) and I have no clue why but there was some cream at the bottom of the plate. Â Why? Â Was the fat content too low and they felt the need to adjust it to match the cheese curd appetizer? Â I couldn't think about it too much, I just accepted that I was at Timberlodge and that's how the Paul Bunyan set rolls. Â The green beans and baked potato were delicious though.
Those who are happy to clog their arteries seemed quite enthusiastic about their food though. Â I may not be the right person to be dining at Timberlodge, so I'll at least speak for my comrades in that regard and rate accordingly. Â And then I'll run screaming back to my octopus appetizers and four mouthfuls of a meal, thank you.
Was in the mood for a steak, so decided to stop by the closest steak joint. The service was okay, until I ordered my steak. I ordered a medium-well cooked steak, received a steak that was rare (more rare than my fiance's rare fillet mignon). So, I politely asked the waitress if she could take it back and have it cooked just a little more and she brings it to me the second time, very well done. I'm not one to get my feathers ruffled too easily, but what the heck. Not wanting to cause a ruckus, I ate it and the flavor was bland. Just seemed like they don't use seasonings or something.
There service wasn't terrible, the sides on my plate (potatoes and veggies) were good. BUT I've had better and will most likely never stop here again.
I was in the mood for a steak and this is where the gps lead me. We need a mobile Yelp app.
The decor is north woods lodge as the name would imply. The service was awful, the hostess was cute and when I asked her what good here she just recited the day's special. My waiter Alex had the personality of a fish. I had to pester him for refills and the wait between everything was long. The restaurant was empty as it was a snowy Monday night.
Now to the meal, I had the wild rice soup instead of a salad it was good but I doubt if it was home made as advertised. The bread was barely warm and was hard like it had sat out too long. I had the Iron Range rib eye, it started out really good and I guess I started at the good end because a little over half way through the steak it started to get tough and stringy, the garlic mashed were pretty good especially if you believe there is no such thing as too much garlic. The green beans were cold, dry and hard.
I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone and I sure wouldn't go back, not with so many other places to find a better meal.
Love this place. This is our "we just need a good meal" stop.
My favorites include the "Ole" (prime rib), the "Viking" (sirloin) and the Parmesan Crusted Walleye.
All the dinners (most under $20) come with a loaf of bread and garlic butter for the table (you can get more, just ask), Soup or Salad, veggies, and choice of potato.
I love their green beans so much I usually get double veggies and skip the potato. Also important to mention their Wild Rice Soup is pretty awesome.
So when you need a good meal that's gonna stick to your ribs with a lot of bang for your buck, you better stop here.
So I found myself in the suburbs this week eating in a strip mall. And liking it -- I'd forgotten how yummy the comfort food is at this place. Had to start with the "Bunyon Onion" of course, then got the "Lena", a 10 oz Prime Rib. Â Add a loaded baked potato, fresh side salad, butter drenched green beans and yummy honey wheat bread, and I was in heaven. It was exactly what I expected and exactly what I wanted. Nice comfy booth too. And, I took home over half the steak, potato and bloomin' onion (it was waaaaaay too much food for one sitting) but I count getting to eat leftovers a great positive. Â Only negative was cheese cake my wife had, which was huge but kind of "light" (more like whipped cream than cream cheese).
Review Source:This holds its own against the other greats. A casual cabin style has its place in society. That and great food to match. I've never had a bad meal. It's one of the few places where I'll get prime rib. A delicious dinner salad with the tastiest of dressings. Unfortunately, I start to get full before the steak arrives. A mini loaf of whole wheat bread and honey butter is immediately brought to you. If you get soup, forget it, filling isn't the word. When I went to WSP, they had happy hour dinner specials, smaller portion, no complaints. Some huge steaks, if not huge, thick.Lets not forget the awesome cheesy hash browns. Don't get ready to roll out yet. After all this, you're still gonna want dessert. Why? If it's your birthday it's free. At least that was the tradition. Get the cheesecake. It's a huge piece of the fluffiest, lightest imaginable, with a choice of strawberry or cherry goo topping. Not fresh toppings, but you'll get over it on the first bite. They tend to hire friendly upbeat people. Remember it's non pretentious here. Knock the beautiful wood that it stays around, and doesn't meet the fate of Roseville and WSP, RIP.
Review Source:I remember when these used to be Minnesota Steakhouse. They were decent then and they are decent now. It's so sad the one near my house closed, so this location has filled the steak void in our lives.
I'm not sure about any of the other steaks, but I come for prime rib. The lunch deals are better, but I can walk away with a 20oz prime, garlic loaded mashed potatoes, a side of garlic green beans, bread with garlic spread and unlimited refills on my cherry coke. Oh yea, and they give me plenty of cherries in that.
My friend and I just went there for lunch. He had a cherry coke and the chicken Alfredo. The bill came out to just over $50 with a generous tip. The best part is that I walk away with an entire meal for the next day.
Timberlodge has been in town for a while, I have been to a couple dozen times or so in various locations over the years. Â A chain steak restaurant that is consistent in quality. Â I typically go with 'The Twins' yep, grilled porkchops, very good ones, or a steak (filet, prime rib, or porterhouse). Â This evening we ordered the Steakhouse Bruschetta from the apps menu (along with the Mosquito Bites, a sampler with the run of the mill wings, mozzarella sticks, potato skins, and celery). Â The Bruschetta was unique, for toppings it had uniquely sauteed tenderloin tips, carmelized onions, tomatoes, blue cheese dressing and basil. Â It was quite awesome (see photo). Â In terms of dinner I had the 20oz porterhouse, I was expecting a thicker cut of meat but, it was a really wide cut, it was great stuff, a perfect medium rare. Â I had a dinner salad with french but, I usually opt for their french onion soup which is pretty good. Â We had a sampling of 3 deserts, all very good. Â The children's menu's are not very impressively detailed nor has a wide variety of selections. Â Both my 8 and 11 year old ordered off the adult menu. Â My 8 year old is a rib fiend so he ate a half rack (apps, wild rice soup, baked potato, chocolate milk, deserts, the kid put alot of food away). Â
I mostly just wanted to comment on the unique Bruschetta item on the menu.
