We started with the Gomae appetizer because it was listed in Timeout's top 100 dishes article in 2010. It tasted good, but it was frustrating to eat because it kept falling apart. We had the Viva Chicago roll, the Crunchy Spicy Tuna roll, and a few pieces of Nigiri, which were all good.
This place is BYOB and it's just off the Belmont red line, which is a plus. Â The sushi was pretty good, but we have had much better. Definitely stop here if it's a good option for you, otherwise there are plenty of better Sushi BYOBs in the city.
I LOVE UKAI!!! Â I've been here at least twenty times and have not ever had a disappointing experience. Â
The sushi is very delicious and fresh and I honestly think every roll I've tried has been good! Â I'd suggest any of their Chicago Sports rolls for anyone who needs a suggestion. Â If you want a super fresh and low carb roll, try the Sweet Dreams roll. Â If you like deep fried rolls (and let's face it, who doesn't?), try the Double Crunch roll.
The service staff is always very attentive and polite as well. Â And with many sushi places charging a corking fee, I love that Ukai still is BYOB with no corkage fees! Â If you are looking to save money too, Ukai is usually on http://Restaurant.com so you can save a few dollars there too. Â Ukai is definitely in my top 3 favorite sushi restaurants in Chicago, and will continue to be a part of my regular sushi rotation.
