Seekers of Halal Chinese food in US tend not to complain too much since this stuff is so hard to come by. Having said that, I tried Usmania since I was craving Chinese for the past year and the chain Usmania means a lot to a Pakistani. Its like a Texan finding Dallas BBQ in suburbs of Karachi! (well, almost).
So,
Atmosphere: 3.5 stars. Nice , clean place. Met expectations.
Food: 4 stars. well prepared, good portions.
Service: 3 stars. The lady assigned to bring the check seemed barely interested in her life, let alone her work.
Recommended if you're craving a quick and decent Chinese meal and Halal is your thing.
I wish there would be a negative star rating. I will rte this restaurant -5 *
What a restaurant WORST food, bad attitude, nightmare service. Don't ever go to this restaurant. Me and my son got sick just after having dinner over there. Food is over priced than quality and taste of food. I ordered Hot n sour soup which was pink in color with smelly chicken made of just corn starch only. Szechuan Chicken was made off tamarind sauce with tons of curry and smelly beef, Kong Pao Chicken was full of vegetable and uncooked peanuts missing chicken. This was worst Chinese restaurant i have ever been to.
This isn't really Indo fusion Chinese nor is it traditional Asian Chinese food. Â Most of the dishes here like Mongolian Beef, Orange Chicken, and Egg Foo Young belong to the American Chinese category, the standard stuff you will find in Chinese restaurants across the country. Â Nothing really exciting but well prepared and satisfying.
The appetizers are excellent. Â Chicken corn and hot & soups are tasty and the crab rangoons and chicken pakoras even better. Â For entrees, ginger and manchurian chicken, mongolian beef, and beef fried rice are all good standbys. Â If I had one gripe it would be that some of the savory dishes tend to be either a little too sweet or too spicy. Â Due to the large Indo-Pak clientele, they make many dishes quite spicy by default unless you specify otherwise.
Portions sizes are abundant, we always have leftovers when eating here. Â This is also one of the few restaurants on Devon with some level of quality control. Â The food has been pretty consistent every time I've visited. Â The restaurant interior is fairly clean and service is efficient.
I love chinese food, and with that in mind this isn't chinese chinese, meaning dull, not spiced or just bland. Â This is Chinese with Pakistani twist/fusion. Â It's flavorful for those pakistani/indian spice lovers, it's mild for those in love with traditional chinese style. Â You can request them the way you like. Â I like the fact they have enough space to accompany party for 7 adults and 7 kids easily. Â The host is gracious enough to check on us constantly. Â prices weren't bad either!! Will be back for sure
Review Source:First visit to this place. It is a small sized restaurant but well designed. It isn't too cramped. We went here for an early dinner. Since we were so hungry we ordered a bit more food than we could eat but then it came home with us for the next day's lunch/dinner.
The food is very good. We ordered the small bowl soups for appetizers (Chicken corn and Hot&Sour). Then we ordered the sweet and sour chicken, shrimp in ginger sauce, veggie fried rice and chicken chow mein. I must say that I was quite surprised at the large portions. Everything was delicious and the shrimp don't come with the tail-on which is something I really enjoyed. I hate it when you have to take off the tail while you're trying to eat at the same time. The service is good as well. It's not top-notch but still pretty good compared to other places in the area.
A great restaurant with great food. A definite must-try.
This is the worst chinese food ever!! Â
It is not chinese at all. Â I had to bear eating it at a couple of weddings. Â I just wished I hadn't come to these events. Â The dishes have gobs of corn starch - big lumps of it. Â Eveything tastes the same. Â The sauses are thick with corn starch. Â They look a dark dull brown and unappetizing with meat or veggies swimming in them. Â The fried rice is mushy and dull looking and tasting. Â It is just awful!!
I don't know why it has such good reviews from other people. Â I haven't been to the restaurant or have any plans of going there. Â Maybe the catered food is not the same as what is served at the restaurant because the catered food is simply not edible.
Please have some pity on your guests and do not order from this restaurant for any event. Â Please!!
AHHHHHH!! BES AH CHINESE EVA! WHY YOU NO GO?! Â made with indian or Paki fushion (Not sure) either way,, it was Great!.. and the service was GREAT.. most of the food is spicy which for me is great, the gf forgot to say non spicy, she made a comment that she forgot to ask but said it was ok.. they IMMEDITLY brought out the same dish and non spicy with out us even asking. Â didnt have to but they did. The area seems to be thriving and the esablishment was nice.. YOU GO NOW!
Review Source:Usmania Chinese is as good as it gets. The food is consistently good and generous portions. I dragged my friend out to grab some indian chinese food. He's thought how is this possible to have indian chinese fusion as he frequents Chinatown often and is an official unofficial expert on Asian cuisine. He started off with a chicken corn soup which he fell in love with instantly. I had the hot and sour soup which tasted much better than it looked. He ordered the chicken and broccoli and I had the beef manchurian with gravy. He asked them to make it mild and ate it but was more intrigued with my dish and he ate it up. It has become his new favorite stop. My wife  and daughter love the combo friend rice and egg rolls too. All in all, I'm glad Usmania chinese is open and now they have a lunch buffet on the weekends for $9.99. One fusion that is not confusion.
Review Source:I really like this restaurant. Â I have been here a couple times, and now I wished I lived closer to it again. Â I think of it as a kicked up Chinese place. Â I like that it is spicier and that different seasonings are used in making your familiar Chinese dishes, but in the end, you don't feel like it is a completely different dish than what you expected. Â
I ordered the Hot and Sour soup, which was amazing! Â I would be completely satisfied eating this as my complete meal. Daily.
I didn't order the big bowl of soup this time, so I also got an entree. Â I got the Manchurian vegetables, and asked that it was made "spicy". Â Tons of food! Â Tasty to boot. Â I think I ate the leftovers for dinner 2x in the following week.
The man in my life ordered the only thing he eats General Tso, or since they didn't' have it on the menu- Empress Chicken, which he wasn't a fan of.  It was a sweet/sour  sauce that he didn't dig too much. dork. Â
The service was pretty sucky. Â There was a group of ~4, 20 something aged guys that worked there talking pretty loud at a table in the dining room, and it made me feel like I was bothering them when they got up to serve us our food/drinks/whatever. Â The owner (i think) came in the restaurant halfway through our meal and served us our dishes and was very gracious.
I'd always pass this place by when coin home from uni, but i'd never been here. My friend finally convinced me to go and I'm glad I did.
First of all, it's zabiha halal, yay.
Second, OMG the portions are hugeeeeeeee. I mean, it was two people and there was enough food for 6. It was delicious food, we had the Szechuan Chicken and the chicken chow mein. Both dishes were delicious, with a good amount of Indo/Pak kick without over-powering the flavors. Clean place, kind of busy. I liked it.
I absolutely love Asian Chinese food, but this is just amazing! My favorite thing there is the orange chicken! It is amazing! I could eat it all day! Their soups and fried rice is delicious! It is a cute little place and I would recommend it to anyone looking for affordable zabiha halal Chinese food! :)
Review Source:This place is great. My brother only eats Zabihah food, so I wanted him to try some chinese food from here. Not sure what makes it IndoPakChinese, it seemed like pretty standard Chinese food. Portions were HUGE, we're talking one order can easily be lunch and dinner. I got the orange chicken with a side of noodles and my brother got beef fried rice. Orange chicken was excellent and the noodles were very good too. I can't get over how cheap this place was and how much food we got for it. Service was extremely friendly and quick. Definitely recommend and will def go back.
Review Source:Sauces were great! If you like your chicken fat free, this is not the place. They do not use all white meat for their dishes. Very traditional. Egg rolls were tasty. The Hot and sour soup is on the lighter side and was not the best. Â I would go vegetarian if I were to eat here again.
Review Source:I'm not sure what makes this Indo-Pak Chinese. It's not that different from generic, American-ized Chinese food. The dishes are standard Chinese fare (orange chicken, kung pao chicken, fried rice, etc.). I guess I was hoping for something more strongly Indo-Pak influenced. I should note that I'm more familiar with Chinese food and less so with Indian food. I did like the Pakora there though (actual Indian food).
Review Source:Its not really Indian version of Chinese cuisine (because its wayyyyyy better than at this joint). Â They should call themselves "American Chinese" Â REALLY! Â That's all this is.
If you are not in search of "Zabiha Halal" restaurant, then you might as well skip this place. There is nothing special about it, service is very typical of Indian/Pakistani joints (pretty bad), food is greasy as expected, flavors are not exciting at all! There are many Chinese restaurants within 4 mile radius of this place that offers better quality and better tasting food with better service and better overall experience.
If you are in search of Zabiha Halal "Chinese" food, then this might be the better one you will come across in Chicago land area.
