Now that I have moved back into Rogers Park, this is my "go-to" delivery place for pizza and sandwiches. For the money - the portions are huge and everything on the menu I've tried so far has been really good. It's a pretty extensive menu too, so odds are they have what you're looking for.

I would recommend any of their beef (with cheese) sandwiches or the thin crust pizza. The beef is awesome, fills almost an entire take-out tray, and it's around $5. Without asking, they routinely apply whatever coupons they have and almost always throw a free RC liter of cola in with your order too.

You might find a pizza / beef place that you prefer, but I doubt that Villa Palermo will let you down. And I promise you'll be full...

I grew up in the Park and remember when they were a sit down restaurant. You can eat inside, but you better bring a AK-47 with you at night. One of Chicago's best Italian beef sandwiches. Order it juicy with peppers.

Open late...leave the motor running!

First time ordering from VP. Ordered via Grub Hub. Excellent experience. would be 5 stars but I haven't tried their pizza yet. (I stress yet)

I ordered the 1/2 rib tips dinner with salad and spaghetti sides and a Brownie.
The portion was Enormous. The tips were in the right amount of sauce. Someone else said they were Mammoth tips. I believe it. Big in size and very little waste. The BBQ sauce wasnt anything special but it was good enough.
The salad was ok.. Decent Creamy Garlic dressing and crisp lettuce smooshed into a styrofoam cup.. I only took 2 bites of the pasta because by that time I was pretty full.
oh yeah i have about half the tips left for tomorrow along with the spaghetti.

I used Grubhub so I didn't have to deal with calling in and talking to someone. (I prefer it that way.) The delivery man called when he was 2 minutes away. And he was 2 minutes away. Never have had a delivery guy call before unless they got lost or they didn't have something i ordered.
While I tipped on Paypal, He got an extra buck from me because he was 12 minutes eary, the food was packed well and seperated ..Cold with cold, hot with hot. Nothing worse then getting luke warm Salad.ewww.

I will be ordering again. I want to try the pizza or the calzone next time.

and the giant Brownie for $2 is a great price. Its huge like 4x4 hunk of lovely chocolate goodness.

Good stuffed sausage pizza. Sauce was a bit too sweet for me, but it was really fresh, with tons of cheese and a well-made crust. I'm normally able to snarf down any pizza in two sittings, but this thing was a monster for as thin as it looked from the outside. It seriously took me three days to finish, and weighed several pounds. I also got two entrees, one of which was a perch dinner with spaghetti, and the other of which was a bbq chicken dinner with fries. The 4 pc chicken tasted fine, but was missing most of its parakeet-sized leg, which unfortunately happens to be my favorite part, (couldn't tell if there was a processing accident, or the poor little bird was just deformed) and the fries were limp, crinkle-cut blobs that reminded me of a grade school cafeteria lunch. 2 stars for the chicken dinner. Perch smelled a bit fishy, but tasted fine, and the spaghetti side was exactly as expected. 3 stars for the perch dinner. Oh yeah, and there were two soggy side salads, which came already dressed, smooshed into tiny styrofoam cups. Honestly, if I were just basing this review on the entrees, it would probably be 2.5 or 3 stars at most, but the pizza was better than average and the order taker was really nice and friendly, plus they came a long way to deliver it (with a free soda), and it arrived within the time frame stated, so I rounded up.

I've eaten Pizza in every nook of the US! They have the BEST pizza in the US! This is coming from a pizza fanatic. I'm a sucker for the typical cheese pizza and Villa is the best. Crust, sauce, cheeses is just excellent

My wife and I have been big fans of Villa Palermo for over 25 years. Her favorite is the Baked Mostaccioli with a Side of Sausage and I love the Breaded Boneless Catfish Dinner. Both are very hearty portions and always well prepared. We recently had a small issue with an order and Villa Palermo really stepped up to make it right in a big way, earning even greater loyalty from us both. Villa Palermo is a class act and we just wanted to sing their praise, because they are most deserving!

Ordered on GrubHub and food came crazy fast -- 2 star for that
The portions were nice, not huge but not scrawny and the food was pretty tasty-- 2 star for that

Gastrointestinal trauma within an hour of eating -- -4 stars for that (I can't give 0 stars)

Holy cow I'm dying here. My wife had the fettucini alfredo and I had the baked lasagna. We only have one bathroom and I'm waiting for my wife to get out. I like to only write reviews for places I really like, but this one gets a review because I have to take my mind off of clenching.

I really wish I were being silly or goofy, but I'm not. Oh no

Edit at the request of my wife: She was in the bathroom taking a bath.

Calzone - Calzone - Calzone.

I only ever ordered 2 things from Villa Palermo, Pepperoni Calzone & Pepperoni thin crust. I've heard they have other good things - but the end all be all for me was the Calzone. It's huge and delicious.

They were shut down for a few weeks over some health code violations, but they fixed them and are up and running. I'm sad I don't live in the neighborhood anymore, haven't found a good calzone around me now.

The pizza is ok. I've not found truly good thin crust here in Chicago, but there's deep dish so guess you can't have both. It's better than Pizza Hut and Dominos.

The service was in and out. If you had the guy who owned it he was always cheerful and would talk to you for a second. But some people behind the counter are a little cold and dismissive - largely I suspect due to being busy, because I've seen them all be very nice.

I'll stand by my 3 star rating, but it feels better than what it is - so maybe that's all that counts.

This family-owned business has been around almost as long as I have, although they moved from a full-service sit down restaurant further west on Devon to what is largely a take-out and delivery joint about 20 years ago. It's one of the few places where you can still get a meal-worthy slice (with free soda) for less than $5. Haven't tried much else on the menu in years, but fondly recall their chicken breast salad, chicken parmigiana and chicken fingers.

Have been a Loyal customer since 2001! best food and best service! The pan pizza is AMAZING and not to mention the cheapest in town! and I have had all of the traditional pizza places in Chicago (lou's, Ginos, Gios,) and this place surpasses all of them! truly a gem on a really crappy street

First off, I've been a customer even before elementary school. I have been going for well over a decade and a half and this place has the BEST pizza I've ever tasted. Their pan pizza is excellent and the staff is more than friendly. They're not even forced to be friendly like other businesses and they love being friendly from the heart and don't fake it. I recommend this to anyone who wants real food and a real staff. In fact, I'm heading over after I post this review! 10 out of 10!!

This pizza sucks, and these people on the north side have never tasted what good pizza is supposed to taste like...poor things! The only good thing about this place is the cheap pizza slice and small soda for about $3 that my 8 year-old likes when I'm too lazy to cook dinner. They must be nasty too because the health department shut them down last year for awhile. Yuck!!!

I have been looking for an alternative to JB Alberto's forever and finally found someone. Ordered through Grub Hub and the delivery came almost to the minute of the estimated time. They did a nice ob of packing everything up for delivery adequately avoiding the crush factor. The eggplant parm and sausage parm were excellent. The salads were a little small and the fried mushrooms are mostly breading and probably not worth it. The portions were great and the prices reasonable. We order again....

We've been ordering from Villa Palermo for over ten years. The pizza and salads are great. The salads especially go on forever. Everything else on the menu has taken a downturn though. The pastas are obviously frozen and nuked in the microwave. But yes we keep coming back for the salads and pizza. The garlic dressing is to die for.

Also...um...best to get delivery. The place is really filthy. Best not to look.

I'm also wondering why the menu is not available on line. You can find several versions that are truncated with most of the prices left out. Their catering menu is available. But the complete delivery menu is only available at the restaraunt.

Ok, so let me start off by telling you, my family and I have been ordering pizza from VP (Villa Palermo) since we moved in less than a block (YIKES!) away in 1992. Their pizza is so freakin good! I've tried so many other pizza places in the area but nothing compaires to the delishessness that is Palermos pizza. Their salads and pastas are super good also. The owners are really nice people as well as their employees :) Highly recommend this place next time your in the neighborhood.

I'll be ordering again and again from this place.

Large servings with great prices for Italian!

Hubby and I had Valantines Day weekend in and choose to order something for the first time by http://grubhub.com. Of course had to Yelp a few places, and Villa Palermo won for large portions. Under $35, got the Minestrone Soup ( he has not tried it yet), the Chicken Marsala Dinner ( he said it was great!), a Thin Crust Pizza Slice ( Good and homemade, in a good way), and the Chicken Parmigiana with Spaghetti ( great, chicken was juicy and flavorful with the cheese and sauces providing the perfect dish!)

The food was really good, but even better were the servings. Wow! One dinner could serve three people easy. While we wish we would have known that, we have lunch and dinner for tomorrow, so who can really complain?

Speaking of complaing...Fast service and good customer service over the phone. My only improvement would be for the delivery man. After he called to say he was down stairs, I put on some clothes and came from the top floor. He had issue, complaining after coming out of his running car that 'its cold outside' and said some other choice words...Umm, a) I know that's why I asked for delivery and b) that's why your in your running car! You were not ever standing outside! I almost did not give him a tip, but I did. He did not take away from the food or star ranking, but do not complain to do your job. It's not cool.

Overall, great food and I would come here again. Maybe we will pick up or dine in.

It's so good I can't stand it. They have the buy one pizza, get one same size free.
That is one of the main attractions to this joint. I have NEVER NEVER had a bad pizza here. It's one of those many things where you sit crosslegged on the sofa with a grape soda and say "this don't make no sense", which you eat yourself senseless.
It's like saying "just kick me running". I always tell them to make the crust doughy (since I like it chewy), and when I tell them EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA, I get EXACTLY what I ask for too.

The ingredients is as fresh as any other "authentic" pizza place I've been to. I'm not about the "assembly line" places (pizza hut, lil caesar's). They tell me 45 minutes and usually it's about 30. The delivery guys call when they are about 5 minutes away and believe it or not, the delivery drivers are EXCEPTIONALLY friendly. There is one that is tall as a tree and he's super nice. Then there's one that's hairy as a shag rug.
I never tip under $5 even if the tip is supposed to be less. I don't know their names but when I order (which is frequently) I always ask for one of them and to Villa's credit, they send me one or the other.

Even on their busy Saturday night, if you order a pizza by 7pm, you'll have it by 8pm..at least I do.

Advice: easier to pay cash upon delivery. I've had a few circumstances where they've mixed up credit card orders...and the driver would bring a receipt for something else.

But you can't whip the taste, the ingredients, and the greatness of a free pizza.
I'd STRONGLY recommend it..try it, you'll like it. Then you'll join me as I eat and do a jig.

I might've been there the wrong time of the wrong night of the week or something, but the mushrooms on my sandwich were NOT tasty. They tasted like can, or canny water, or beefy smoke, or meaty hand. I don't know why, but maybe if you go here stay away from things that have mushrooms on them. I don't like to waste food but I ended up throwing out part of my sandwich because I couldn't think of a way to redeem it or reconstitute it later. Villa palermo's got a good prison-diner bar counter and the staff is nice, and you can see straight into the kitchen they've got nothing to hide. Just something was up with the mushrooms that day.

Villa's is some of the best pizza you can get at a pizzeria in Chicago to me. I've been a customer since 1996 and even when I come back home (after moving to Seattle) I still stop to get a slice of cheese with a Sierra Mist all for under 3 bucks!

You can't go wrong at this place. They have daily specials with favors you'll love. If you haven't been to Villa's you must go you won't be upset. I guarantee it!

I ordered delivery from here the other night. Got baked mostaccoli for a solid price of 5.80. Delivery was on time (tho the estimated time was over an hour :/
The food is fine. I don't think its anything I would ever crave, but for the price its not too shabby.
You MUST get a giant brownie thats for sure. It is from bakery that I totally am blanking on the name of but it was killer. Super super delicious.

I would recommend Villa Palermo if you are guarding your pocketbook, but its nothing too terribly special.

Thank you VP, for feeding my lazy ass (and my wife's fine ass) at least once a week. No, we don't cook. We heat things up and sometimes we don't even want to do that. That's where VP comes in. A quick call and they know what I want (thin crust - half cheese & tomatoes and half pepperoni, pie cut) before I have to ask. In 30-40 minutes a large pizza is at my door. Hot, cheap, and with a liter of pop. The crust is soft and crispy in the right places and the cheese is melted perfectly. The sauce is the kicker. Tomatoey but a bit spicy too. I've never eaten at the location but we've had at least 20 pizzas delivered and it's been consistently good every time.

Is it the best pizza in the city? Probably not. But for those in West Rogers Park, it's a quick, tasty and nicely-priced option if you want to stay home, not cook, and watch Celebrity Apprentice or some shizz. Cooking is for suckers anyway... right?

This was my north side delivery spot for years and years! Let me break this down a little more. When I was a lot younger, my mom would order from here. Also, my friends' families would order from here for a pizza night. When I was in high school, I would order from here for my mom and me almost whenever we wanted something delivered. When I graduated high school and was working long hours, I would order late into the night from Villa and even got to know the delivery guys. Villa Palermo is not only a place that fed me over and over again through the years, but it is also home to some of my favorite Chicago comfort food.

Stuffed Pizza with sausage and mushroom - Amazing

Chicago Thin Crust Pizza (sausage beats pepperoni & it depends on if the cook/person taking orders knows what you're talking about, but double dough can be beautiful) - Amazing

Palermo Beef - Amazing

Rib Tips (which are pictured) - Amazing

Fried mushrooms with BBQ sauce for dipping - Amazing

Meatball Dinner - Amazing

(There are plenty more things on the menu to rave about, but try for yourself!)

Now, I'm not saying that what you're going to get here is going to please your Yoga instructor or personal trainer, but damn is it some stick-to-your-ribs goodness!

I salute you Villa Palermo. Sorry for moving so far away, but thank you for filling my belly over the years with your delicious grub.

I wanted so bad to like it. All my boys said it was great, and I love their rotating pizza oven.

I ordered a Deep Dish and a Thin Crust, and they both underwhelmed. If I may, I think something was wrong with the dough?

The Deep Dish was "stuffed" style, in that it had a top layer of dough. And the layer of sauce on top of that was tomato-paste based and of poor quality.

The Thin Crust lacked the requisite crunch.

I asked the guy how hot the oven was, he said 400 ... that's too low.

Maybe I caught them on an off night...

I'm sorry to nitpick so much, but serving pizza in Chicago, you gotta bring your A-game every night.

I have lived here on the north side of Chicago for over thirty years and I have tried most if not all the Pizza places in and around the Rogers Park and Edgewater area. I have been a fan of Villa Palermo for most of my life. There thin crust pizza is always consistent and wonderful.

If I am in the mood for a thin crust pizza I always order Palermo's. I would go to their Devon and Campbell location every other Sunday and get a Spinach & garlic, easy on the cheese thin crust and it was always sublime. Now I get it from their carry out place further East of there original location and still it's the same pizza I remember as a kid.

There sauce is not acidic and the crust is not gummy. I even got my wife loving the Spinach & Garlic. I have never really had a problem ordering from Palermo's, as they always seem to get it right maybe once in a blue moon they screw a large order up but it's rare.

I still love their pizza bread and the roasted chicken. Their sandwiches are not to bad either, and there pan pizza is good but not what they are known for. Most importantly when I ask for a request like Do Not Cut my Pizza they don't. As many pizza aficionados' know it's better to cut the pizza at home so the sauce does not destroy the consistency of the crust.

First off, thank you for being open on New Year's Day--like all places should be. Thanks also for delivering to the Double Bubble. Also, thanks for the free Pepsi even though I don't drink regular soda.

The pan-style pizza is THICK. The same thickness as many "Chicago-style" or "deep-dish" or "stuffed" pizzas around town. Oops. Well, a large fed the three of us plus leftovers. Pretty solid pizza with a good balance of toppings, cheese, and sauce, but somewhat too doughy.

And the cannolis! Wow, they are the best or second-best that I've had in quite some time.

Please people call 311 and report this place ASAP. I'm not lying this place is dirty. I ate in one day and notice how filthy the blinds were. UGH! Then the cooks look raggedly, dirty, and tacky. People need to be cautious and careful where they eat and this is one place that should be shut-down. BOOM CLOSED FOR GOOD!

Ok so I haven't even tasted my order yet, but I feel it's important for people to know that this is the only place I could find in the Lincoln Square area that delivers ICE CREAM!!!

This is an amazing discovery and they even had 3 kinds to choose from. I will update after receiving my order but I stuck with the basic cheese sticks and I'm hoping those are good since they aren't too hard to mess up!

If you're looking for ginormous portions, look no further. On Mondays, you can get 1/2 rib tip platter for $6.05 or full for $9.35. About a dollar off the regular menu. Sometimes I wonder if these rib tips came out of a woolly mammoth.

As far as quality, yes, I have had better pizza and rib tips. But, these portions allow me to take a break from hunting and gathering for at least another 2 days. Carry out is so simple, even a caveman can do it.

Also, Villa Palermo is very animal friendly. How do I know? Because 3 days before the Yelp Halloween bash, I entered the establishment in my skunk outfit, and they did not refuse to serve me.

Ordered pizza from here on New Years day. It was OK. A little one the greasy side. Delivery was quick though and it was fairly priced. I agree with some of the other reviews that the telephone manner of the girl who takes the orders leave a lot to be desired. Maybe they were busy? I felt like she couldn't get me off the phone quick enough.

Me: Hey, I want a Cheese pizza, you guys in?

Friend: Of course! Let's get Gino's East, I love the cheese there!

Other Friend: No way man! Lou Malnati's is where its at. Have you had their sauce?

Third Friend: Hey, calm down. Golden Crust it is. After all, they have a golden crust.

Me Again: Listen, guys guys. A cheese pizza only has three ingredients. How 'bout we get 'em all right?

VILLA PALERMO. SAVIOR of the CHICAGO THIN CRUST!!!

That might be a bit contrived and dramatic. However, I see no other way to convey to you the unholy goodness that is Villa Palermo thin crust. It's perfect!

I like my pizza a particular way. I like a thin, firm yet tender butter crust. I like a sauce with good consistency and tasty spices. And I like a cheese with a thin yet not particularly overwhelming layer of delicious oils on top. Also, if you're as picky as I am about pizza and like that ring of exposed baked pizza sauce around the edge where the cheese doesn't quite touch the edge of the crust, but the sauce does, you'll dig this pizza.

It's so good, their delivery radius is a major consideration anytime I move.

Note to the Cajuns: Villa Palermo pizza is best served with Louisiana Hot Sauce.

Note to the Italians: The baked cheese ravioli is also good.

Note to the Vegetarians: I think the marinara sauce they give you with mozzarella sticks has meat in it.

Expectation: Unspectacular but tasty red sauce Italian comfort food, delivered to my doorstep.

Greater than: Ranalli's...maybe?
Less than: Panino's, I Monelli, La Gondola, etc, etc
Why: While I never expect this kind of Italian delivery joint to turn out amazing food, I do at least expect it to rise to the level of "edible". Villa Palermo does not meet that standard, at least when preparing anything other than pizza and calzones.

It's taken some time, but I've finally found a delivery place that's as bad as Ranalli's. Villa Palermo makes Bucca di Beppo look like Spiaggia.

To be sure, they supersize the portions. The Chicken Cacciatore platter I ordered was literally filled to the brim. With what, you ask? With a genuinely nauseating, greasy, vaguely tomato-ish sauce with blobs of uncooked vegetables and overcooked chicken actually FLOATING around inside. My wife's lasagna was mostly gummy cheese drown in a sauce infused with flavorless, gristly ground beef.

If you want to try this establishment, get something specifically recommended by a previous reviewer, like pizza or calzones. If you hazard another selection, you've been warned.

So I thought you guys were exaggerating about the size of the calzone here. Surely this thing would fit on MY dinner plate.
So, uh, I went to go take it out of the delivery guy's hand and I dropped it. seriously. The thing is the size of a steering wheeland as heavy as a coffee table.
DEE-LICCCC-IOOUSS. Comes with one topping, but I added a couple more. I was absolutely starving and still could only eat half. The best calzone I 've had in the city yet. I wish they gave pizza sauce instead of marinara sauce, but I'll know what to ask next time. They've been accommodating in the past when I've stopped for a slice. The pasta has been a weaker choice, so now I just stick with pizza and pizza-like products.

Bonus points for the free pop. That always wins brownie points for me.

Delivery was well within time frame given and everything was hot. I'm ready to order from them again.

I remember when it was a nice place to sit down and eat, now it's just for carry out and delivery but the food is still good.Like someone else said, the ribs and chicken are good- liked the barbaque sauce.

I liked the lasagna- good size portion. The beefs are ok. Pizza is good, for neighborhood pizza (not like Gino's East or Lou's though)The fried mushrooms are good there (juicy and lots of 'em, and they have "The best" fried cauliflower (which I am always on the look out for)- not a dry breading but tender and they give you a big basketful.

The girl who took my delivery order was very rude. When I said I wanted a cheese pizza, she jumped in with "What size, SIR!?" before I could get the whole word pizza out of my mouth. She then asked for my credit card #, slamming the phone down the second she got the expiration date. So, after shaking it off, I realize she never found out what kind of crust I wanted. I call back within 10 seconds and get her back on the line.

"You can't have a pan, I charged you for a thin."

"Well, can you change the order?"

"No, it's already in the oven."

"I called less than 5 minutes ago and you can't change it? I just called."

"What the hell am I supposed to do with this pizza if I let you change it?"

Despite the fact that I immediately come up with a perfect thing she can do with that pizza, I bite my tongue. She promises pizza within the hour. Trying to keep from exploding, I calmly end the call. I mean, if ever there is a pet peeve I have with customer service it's those moments where I'm totally calm and looking for a chill, uneventful transaction, and I get some malcontent slinging barbs at me. And we're still looking for a pizza place to become our go-to at our new-ish condo. So we call up, giddy that we're ordering in on a night we didn't expect to, hoping to make ourselves eager return customers for this place, and the mood is just killed. This better be damn good thin crust, I think aloud. I don't like thin, and here I am being bullied into taking it.

Cut to 90 minutes later. I wonder how long this pizza was in the oven, assuming of course that the girl was lying now and she made up the "already in the oven" excuse so she wouldn't have to void a credit card purchase. The pizza arrives, and the driver tells me the last two deliveries he tried to make, there was nobody home.

Maybe you were delivering them something they didn't order too, my wife and I tell the guy. We still tip him decently, and sit down.

It's pretty boring thin crust. You could get this anywhere.

If we were to rate this place on yummy-per-dollar, we're talking an easy 4+ stars. But the service left a bilous taste in my mouth. And maybe we caught the staff on a particularly rough night. But I was still disgusted with my experience, and found myself wishing doom on the whole business. Perhaps I'll try to order a pan crust sometime, but if that same girl picks up the phone, I'll probably just hang up. Not one of my dollars belongs in her pocket.

Villa Palermo was so great when it had a restaurant. Now it's pretty much carry-out and delivery. Their pizzas always have super-fresh vegetables, it's very reasonable, and if there is a big eater in your group, dare her or him to eat an entire PALERMO BEEF in one sitting (Italian beef sandwich smothered in melted mozzerella and mushrooms.)

After we moved closer to Lawrence, we started ordering from Pete's. But my mom still orders from there all the time. I wonder what happened though, there was always this velvet-voiced woman who would answer the phone "VillaPalermopickupordeeLIVereeeeeeee" and she's gone now.
