Cheap drinks and beautiful women, yeah that just about sums it up. Â But i'll provide some detail anyway.
I was in Atlanta on business and wanted to grab a drink and enjoy some nightlife. Since I was staying at the W Hotel anyway, I figured let me try the Whiskey Blue. Â I was glad I did. When I first arrived, it was kinda dead but the bartenders were really nice and attentive. Â They had the basketball games on and I was happy. Soon it started to pick up as more and more people arrived. By 10:30pm the place was packed.
I stayed at the bar the whole time because I had a good spot and was able to converse with different people as they came to order drinks. Â Very friendly people in Atlanta for the most part. The place itself is pretty big so there was lots of room if you wanted to mingle around the bar. Plus there was an outside area but the weather wasn't good so everyone was inside.
Drinks were very cheap so I had plenty!
Only downside was that this place is apparently one of the hot spots around and by midnight it was so overcrowded it became uncomfortable to be at the bar. Couldn't talk with anyone without getting bumped around constantly.
It is a very nice rooftop bar. I didn't feel like I was in Atlanta at all. Â The ambiance had a South Beach type vibe to it. Â The drinks weren't that expensive. The music was pretty good. Mostly pop with a little rap remixed into it. The crowd was very diverse. There was some grandma's "Turning Up" next to our section. It looked like they were having the time of their lives. Â The only thing is that the parking is 20 dollars to valet. I said forget that. I got lucky though. I asked security at Lenox Mall if I could park in their lot. Security had me park behind a hotel. He told me he would be working until 4 am. Â I leave the bar about 2 am to get my car and it was still there. I thanked and tipped the security guard for watching my vehicle for me.
Review Source:Great atmosphere! Â Lots of outside seating and couches to just relax and enjoy a drink.
The bartender when I went (Tuesday) was not very helpful. Â I first ordered a scotch and she offered it on the rocks (WHAT?!) .
Then when I asked her for a suggestion for some good whiskey she said she didn't have time and to just tell her what I wanted (Again, a Tuesday, it was not packed). Â What I wanted was a suggestion for some good whiskey to try from a whiskey bar.
While visiting Atlanta I was able to stop in briefly to this great Whiskey Blue in the heart of Buckhead located on a lovely rooftop with amazing views of Atlanta :)
Great crowd.
Lovely trendy decor.
Amazing drinks.
I actually liked this location a whole lot better than my hometown Westwood location... Sssh don't tell anyone I said that is was the rooftop views that stole my heart ;)
Wanted to show some friends from out of town a little bit of what Atlanta had to offer, so I suggested we all check out Whiskey Blue at the W in Buckhead. We all parked in the deck around the corner, as we did not want to valet, though the valet guys really wanted us to since we had two GTRs with us lol.
The lounge is located on the rooftop, with both an indoor section as well as an outside patio (which was closed the night we went, since it was freezing). The atmosphere was nice - elegant, dim, but not so much, big TVs with the game on, music that set the mood and wasn't too loud, swanky couches with comfortable cushions, and the most fully stocked bar I've ever seen.
Jessica was our server and she was attentive, friendly and suggested good drinks for those who didn't quite know what they were in the mood for. The cocktails, which hid the alcoholic taste well but still packed quite the punch, will run for about $15 each. Food was good, too -- I recommend the truffle pizza!
Maybe it was the good vibe of the place or the drinks, but spontaneity hit us hard, as we set off to PCB with nothing but the clothes on our backs.
PS - it's 21+ and they ID you at the entrance to the lounge.
I got a drink at Whiskey Blue with co-workers while we were staying at the W Hotel below this rooftop bar. Whiskey Blue is very well decorated overall, but the outdoor patios are absolutely outstanding. Even though the day had been very hot, the patio was the perfect temperature on the August evening that I was there. The cabana was also the perfect spot for the four of us to have a nice conversation.
I definitely recommend dressing up, because I felt a little awkward just wearing a white cotton top, jeans, and ballet flats. The waitress was absolutely terrible -- the location of this bar would make me rate it 5 stars, but the service was so horrible that I have to bring them down to only 3 stars. She was rude when we had not made up our minds immediately and acted completely indifferent to whether or not we ordered anything at all. The drinks also took some time to come out. Considering it was a mid-week evening with only about 20-30 patrons, the drinks should have been served in under 5 minutes.
Though an amazing location, I wouldn't go back just because of the terrible service.
I've had the fortune to visit W hotels in perhaps four different cities, and this one is on par with the best. Rooftop lounge has great views; outdoor heaters keep it cozy on chilly nights. The drinks aren't cheap, but they aren't as high as they could be. Â It gets pretty active by midnight on many nights, but I've been three different occasions and never seen in uncomfortably crowded. Â Early evenings are even better, quite low key and relaxed. Â As a plus, I left my credit card at the bar one night. Â Dropped by a couple days later unannounced and Edward, a concierge, had the staff bring it down to the lobby and hand it to me in person. Â
The W's at the moment are one of the handful of hotels that consistently delivers solid customer service...something that is often spotty at best at other hotels and lounges. Â
Every decade or so, there's a hotel group that really goes the extra mile, trying to make a name for themselves. Â The W seems to be one of them at the moment, so if you travel a lot, check them out.
And no, im not a paid-shill for them. Â Just some guy who has been impressed enough times to take a moment to write it down.
I went here with my guy on a Saturday night and the place wasn't packed whatsoever which is kind of nice so we can actually order drinks at the bar. Being an out of towner, the place is very classy and nice to come if you're looking for a lounge to just chill. It's cozy, intimate, and with their rooftop patio, you can look out to the city. Just make sure you go on the right side of the building when walking in because you'll just see an empty mall parking lot on the other. A friend recommended me to this place and I'm glad I came because it was a perfect place to be if you like comfy seating and to people watch.
Keep in mind however that places can get reserved so you might have to move around or even stand. The place isn't that big so you can't wander anywhere except maybe the bathrooms because it feels like a maze going to it. It's on top of the W hotel so imagine taking an elevator all the way up and the door opens to a sort of an exclusive area of pretty sophisticated VIPs sipping on martinis. The prices are overpriced but like any big cities you visit, you're not only paying for the drink but also the environment you're in.
No cover on a night like this is a bonus and you can sit outside if you like as well to enjoy the view or chat. Don't expect a dance floor though. So if you plan to come dancing, don't because it's not a club.
This is one of my favorite rooftop bars in Atlanta. Just like any up-scale rooftop bar, the drinks are overpriced because the price of the drink incorporates the feel of the place, the view, and the shoulder-rubbing. The music runs through top-100 party lists, and when the place throws a party (such as Halloween or New Year's), it does not disappoint. The view of the city is not exactly unobstructed, however. The decor outside includes trees that somewhat block the view unless you are at a few specific tables with bar stools that give you added height. The crowd ranges from the older and rich to the young and sexy. In short, Whiskey Blue is a Buckhead staple for a reason.
Review Source:I love this place! Amazing views, sexy but cozy ambiance and upscale crowd!
My husband and I had a several date nights there and it's always a lot of fun. We usually sit outside and later end up on the dance floor:)
Love the exotic cocktails and tasty bites.
Keep it up, Whiskey Blue!;)
Small, cozy, intimate feel, with views of the city. Â This is a unique environment compared to the usual Atlanta hot spot. Â It has the feel of a Miami or NYC hotel lounge and is located at the top of the W hotel Buckhead. Â Beautiful people everywhere and good house music last night. Â
I had a snotty waitress, Â but I came from Miami most recently and expect this behavior in these kind of environments (I just give it right back). Â Â Tables should be booked ahead of time. Â I'll be back.
My boyfriend and I decided to end our night here, after bar hopping all night.
The decor is The W image, it has a 70's music vibe, & there's no cover charge. I think what attracts people into this bar is the rooftop patio, but the view is shrub's & cougars...also everyone who smokes is on the rooftop patio so its more like a smoke chamber.
My boyfriend and I decided to get a drink, sit down, enjoy the night and people watch. The drinks are horrible & VERY EXPENSIVE, there are NO CHAIRS to have a seat, I asked one of the bouncers where we could sit down & he said I would have to buy a bottle so sit on the couches or I could sit outside on the patio(the smoke chamber) after walking around midtown all night in heels i was irritated.
We decided to finish our drinks and go, We did not do valet parking, we parked in the garage and had to pay $22 to get out!!!! I understand if I parked & went somewhere else, but we went to the facility's inside the hotel and no one validates parking.
This bar is a complete waste of money$
I guess you have to look like you snort coke here to get any service.... we waited outside at a table for quite awhile before anyone came by. Someone finally came up to us after we had gotten our first round from the bar. I hate that pretentious bullshit.
I was thinking to myself: rooftop patio, how cool! But who in the hell designed that place? The city view is completely blocked by shrubs, and the lighting is horrible. Killed the romantic ambiance I was hoping for.
So much potential down the drain...Thursday night fail
Whiskey Blue is part of a conglomerate created by the mastermind Rande Gerber (an extra special kudos since he managed to marry one of the hottest supermodels of all time, Cindy Crawford). Â He has 3 locations in Atlanta alone, this place being one of them. Â
So what is so special? Â The guy single handedly created the cocktail menus on Delta flights (ever have one of those Mai-tais on a flight? Thank him.). Â He turns nothing into a money-making fairytale. Â That is why I was so thrilled to check this place out. Â
So, the entrance is on the OUTSIDE of the hotel (you can't miss it, if you do, you belong in a dark corner)- clearly marked. Â There is no cover, but be prepared to get carded. Â And then the fun part- wait in line to go up the elevator- ohh I feel like I am in Disney, for adults! Â Then you get in the huge elevator (the thing fits 20, easily)- that gives you a view of Peachtree Street- the most exciting part of it all! Â And then, you walk down a hallway with another view (now it feels like I am in queue at Space Mountain...). Â Then you get bum rushed- it goes from calm and cool to slightly chaotic.
The next hallway you get to see the open air views of god knows what and some buildings. Â I went last Saturday around 11:30PM, for a friend's birthday (there were 8 of us). Â Unless you knew Rande himself, you were not going to get a seat anywhere, let alone stay with the party- so we all split up- I went with 2 of my lady friends and we went to the outdoor bar at the 2o'clock (if you are at the entrance and the main bar is on the right, its the patio behind the main bar)- and it was a clusterf*ck. Â There were about 60+ ppl out there, and one bartender- even the view couldn't save this one... Â
In fact, it was so crowded, there was no where to dance either- I was better off taking some dudes GF and grinding on her. Hell, that was really the only way to get through the place- thank god I am terrifying in size. Â
Don't get me wrong, the actual location was great- I wish I could tell you how the furniture fared, but I didn't have a chance. Â After spending roughly 30 minutes walking around going to 3 different bars, I couldn't get a drink for the life of me. Â Even the hotties I was with couldn't use their "charms" to get a drink. Â
I usually give 1 star to places that I wait around for and clearly make it obvious I haven't been served, but after going to the site and seeing they are actually opened in the daytime- I might have to check this place out after church. Â But honestly, for someone who likes to drink, coming here at a peak time was a dumb idea- so I salvaged a star for that.
I would suggest checking out the hotel bar on the main floor, or getting tipsy somewhere else if you decide to settle here for the evening. Â
The good news is though, only a few minutes down the road is the W Midtown, which has 2 more Gerber locations there, where I have yet to be disappointed (even at peak times!)
Parking is valet only, but I was able to get it for free, as we ate at MARKET (the W's Restaurant) , and they validated the ticket.
This place is one of Buckhead's hidden gems. Although this neighborhood is chock full of fabulous restaurants, the bar scene can tend to be...frat-tastic? While that can be fun sometimes (maybe?), who are we kidding- Â Buckhead is in desperate need of some more trendy/upscale bars and lounges.
Enter Whiskey Blue, a rooftop bar with a breezy, 70's-chic vibe that works with the W's image and aesthetic. There's no cover charge, however valet can be pricey (and besides the little pay lot next door, valet's about the best option). Screw it, you're probably coming in a cocktail dress and five inch platforms, just suck it up.
Nice date spot and great for groups- but you best reserve a table if it's a birthday party or something, otherwise you could get the boot by others with a reservation or those wanting to pop bottles. Seating is first come first serve unless reserved parties come in.
The crowd's a mixed bag- all ages, all types. You won't feel out of place as long as you are up to par with dress code- dressy casual-ish to cocktail. They open pretty early and the patios are lovely in the early evening and into the night when you can see the Midtown skyline. It's probably nice for a second date, not so much a first though, since the DJ's keep it loud later on the weekends.
Cocktails: usually on point. The bartenders know what they're doing and the specialty drinks are generally worth trying. The "Sunkissed Angel" was tasty and not too sweet despite the name. Word to the wise: since you're not paying a cover, you'll make up for it in drinks. There's also a small bar menu; haven't tried much of it but I liked the tuna tartare.
TLDR; Cool decor, decent crowd, good drinks, pretty and/or friendly staff, be prepared to pay $13 for a specialty cocktail and $300 if you spring for bottle service. Sexy vibe, nice views from the patios.
I have a fantastically awesome friend that works here. I came here with a few friends mainly to check this place out and to visit a certain person.
This place is super fancy, I came from a friend's dinner earlier that night so I was a little bit more dressed up. Â But one of my poor guy friends was dressed more casual and this was a Thursday night. Â I was told this was the day business guys came for an afterwork drink/cocktail. Â My friend was in shorts and a button up and every other guy was in a suit. Â He got excited when he saw another guy in shorts, for a moment he didn't feel alone.
We walked around a bit and the place is amazing! Â The outdoor seating and the view of the Atlanta skyline, was breathtaking. Â I just wished the weather was better because after a minute it began to rain.
We sat down on a couch inside that would normally be for a group that is willing to splurge on a bottle. Â I have a feeling bottles here are expensive, especially after I saw the drink prices.
I got this strawberry mojito. Â Very tasty, had a huge strawberry on the side!
This place lost points because they didn't have Yuengling...I mean, I just can't continue at an establishment in Atlanta unless they have it. Â Being overdramatic, but it was a shot to the heart when the bartender looked at us with a confused and perplexed look.
I haven't tried the food but did wonder why a swanky, fancy place would have pizza on their menu. Â Just saying...kind of confusing.
I liked the music and DJ, I just wished they had a better area for dancing.
When I was in Atlanta for all of last week this was the one place I truly enjoyed. The atmosphere is chill and as the week goes on the crowd gets more and more rowdy.
We came Mon-Thurs (dedication) and had a blast every night! One night they had an astronomy club guy there with his telescope pointing at the full moon, pretty bad ass, especially when drunk.
We always came and sat outside under the heated lamps and enjoyed the drinks, the music on Tuesday night was ESPECIALLY good.
They have a good selection of scotch, I would recommend the Highland Park neat or the Oban Single Malt. Both were excellent!
If you are in the Buckhead area, check this bar out! Good crowd with a good vibe
I was looking to mix it up among Atlanta's Upper Crust last week, so I started my weekend on Thursday night at Whiskey Blue atop the W Hotel in Buckhead for their "Sky" party.
Atmosphere: Swanky with an art deco flair. Lots of lounging space with couches and modern contemporary seating throughout -- my favorites are the Ludwig Barcelona-style leather chairs. The bar and lounge/dance floor area is accented with wood paneling and classic rock and roll era photos. Flanking the inside of this club/lounge are 2 outdoor patios which are heated with overhead lamps in the winter.
Food: A limited bar menu is available from the W restaurant downstairs. I chose to skip a meal and stick to drink on this particular night.
Drink: Well prepared cocktails that are a bit pricey, but with DJs and plenty of attractive guests, the cost is justified. $10 for a jack and coke? I better sip slowly.
Service: Â Professional and attentive. Mostly well-manicured, attractive females tend to the bar and cocktail tables. My bartender (whose nickname was "Skillz") was feisty, cool and on-point all night long.
This lounge is a go-to for those seeking an upper-scale nightlife experience, sans the clubby, overdone atmosphere that so often accompanies like destinations in Buckhead.
I attended a company social at Whiskey Blue and I really loved the atmosphere.
The drinks were spot on. They definitely don't skimp on the alcohol. They had mini sliders and many other appetizers to snack on. The only thing I really disliked was the spring rolls.
The view is wonderful and the multiple patios were a really great place to socialize and take a breather.
There isn't a dance floor, but this didn't stop anybody. I'm not sure if it was the house DJ, but I thought the music selection was a bit dated. R&B and Hip Hop didn't get played too often.
Since this was a company hosted event, I can't say much about the prices.
Came here about 2 weeks ago with friends. The elevator that you have to take to get up to the top of the W hotel is BIG and super swanky.
The Whiskey Blue is an upscale rooftop bar with a really cool outside patio area. My friends got a table here, which was great because the weather outside was just right, the view was amazing, and the alcohol kept flowing.
I know it's supposed to be classy not trashy, but I would have liked more of a dance floor.
The trip up with the elevator was fun. It was super easy to find, because I just followed everyone else. Ha. The elevator is huge so I didn't feel squished. The view of Atlanta wasn't breathtaking or anything, but I like the idea of a sky bar ish area.
Parking across the street (in the Maggiano's lot) is only $5.
If you are feeling like dressing up, looking sophisticated, and going somewhere chic, then look no further.
I came to Whiskey Bar to have drinks with a friend. As soon as I entered the bar, I was immediately impressed with it. They have nice decor, premium liquors, true mixology cocktails, good-looking customers, and sexay, foine cocktail waitresses. They get extra points just for the last one ;-)
I only had one drink and I had their Nectar Drop Cocktail. They used Ciroc vodka with grapefruit and something peachy tasting. It was a really refreshing drink and it goes down smooth. Even though I had one drink, I was impressed with what I tried. (btw Ciroc is not a ghetto liquor. Although it is promoted by P.Diddy, It is actually a vodka made from grapes and probably one of the smoothest vodkas you ever tasted.) I'll definitely, have to come back to try the other cocktails. I will say, the prices are a bit pricey but that's the price you pay for quality. My friend had a Glenfiddich 12 year scotch and my cocktail came out to $28.
My cocktail waitress was really nice. I forgot her name but she was really sweet and accommodating.
If I'm feeling bourgeois again, I'll have to come in again ;-)
"Ok, you're in Buckhead. Â Know what you've gotten yourself into and just go with it."
That's what i was telling myself as i rode up the dedicated elevator to this rooftop lounge. Â "Casual Sophistication," as the W would have you believe, it was not. Â The term "hunting ground" comes to mind though and at Whiskey Blue it's hunting season year-round. Â While most patrons might be sophisticated business types during the day - and Whiskey Blue ain't cheap - everywhere I looked seemed like this was a place to be seen, picked up, and taken home (or stuffed in a trunk, maybe) for some unsophisticated behaviour.
Being an avid people watcher, I noticed one gentleman (sans monocle, if you were wondering) garnering the undivided attention of two beautiful women on a lounge chair. Â As the scene played out, he must have "chosen" the broody brunette and the buxom blond turned her attention to our private group. Â Not only did she make little effort to go unnoticed as she "snuck" in, she was quite happy to be called on it. Â Not sure how that ended, and I'm not saying she was for hire, but I'm not saying she wasn't either. Â I do know she had no trouble charming the guys into letting her swill some of the Grey Goose and hang.
Clientele aside, it's a pretty cool space that certainly takes on an entirely different vibe when it's warm outside. Â It's not the most genuine, as other reviewers have remarked, but seriously y'all, this is Buckhead. Â I'm a life-long Atlantan who lives downtown and works in the 'head. Â My observation is that most folks in Buckhead are visitors or transplants from elsewhere so there's really no soul in this part of the city, anyway. Â Like i said at the start - know where you are and adjust your expectations accordingly.
Most of the square footage seems to be dedicated to outdoor space, some of it with a great view of downtown ATL, but no amount of heaters would convince people to go outside the snowy night we were there. Â Private roped-off spaces like ours are available if you're willing to drop some coin on bottle service, which is incredibly expensive (certainly not uncommon).
If you're thinking about heading here and you're not made of money, I'd recommend getting a buzz going elsewhere first. Â Even better, wait 'til spring comes around so you can enjoy the open air and outdoor spaces. Â If you're looking to class...or probably sass it up for a night this might be your landing spot but you'll still probably prefer your regular watering hole for most nights out.
Happy hunting!
Like everybody said the price is ridiculously high. I think they use it to filter out their customers. They only want the creme de la creme of the society.
People if you want to drink go to HnF they have great cocktails and much more sensible price. If you want to mingle go elsewhere less pretentious!
It's surprising how much room this place has inside and out. However, if you don't reserve bottle service you're going to be standing on your cute little 5 inch heels for hours so take some Advil.
Ambiance-wise, they do a good job of making it very trendy and clubby, but that comes at a price. The lighting is too low (hey, maybe that's a plus for you) and the music a little too loud. If I'm in a social setting I want it to be easy to meet and talk to new people. It's helps to avoid the annoying "WHAT?!"s and awkward nodding of the head when you pretend you heard what the other person said...which can always turn into a Seinfeld-puffy-shirt-esque situation.
I could have used more heaters outside, but there were some pretty good views if you could crane your head around the tall buildings next to the W. The drinks are good and the bartenders were pretty efficient. Â Good selection of music even though hardly anybody dances. Not sure if I'll be back, but it was fun while it lasted.
Hello, Whiskey Blue? Â Vegas called. Â They wanted to remind you that your establishment is in the SOUTH and NOT on the Strip or top of the Palms or Rio.
First, who in the hell gets off at paying $7 for a 12 oz Sweetwater or $11 for a Crown and Coke. Â
We were staying at the Westin two buildings down so fortunately didn't have to park. Â They had the velvet rope thing going (no one was in line). Â I had a hat on and was told my friends can go in but not you, because of the hat. Â Friends went in to check the place out while I took it back to the room and came back.
They tried charging $20 to get in. Â Friend straight up told them "I'm not paying anything to get in". Â They were let in.
I came back in and it reminded me, in a red-headed stepchild kinda way, of Ghost Bar in Vegas. Â Top floor, some of it open-air, and ridiculously expensive gheyness. Â
Unless you pull in over 150k  a year, you shouldn't be here.  This isn't the clientle I want to be associated with, anyway.  World class, grade-A, Douche-canoes.  Of course most girls are going to like this place, because the businessmen folk are going to be buying your drinks.  If you're middle-class and have any kind of sense about money, go somewhere else.  That's what we did.
Que the High Life Beer Guy.
I highly recommend this establishment for the ambiance. Â A nice rooftop deck. The bartenters are EH on personality but the environment is definately upscale cosmo.
I feasted on appetizers and hobnobbed with a couple of local celebs. Â This intimate environment makes it super for an afterwork set or even a local getaway! Â Enjoy the ride on the glass elevator to the top! Â Bravo
I must say that I really enjoyed my night at the Whiskey Blue.
I hung out with old friends, made new friends, toasted to a ton of May birthdays and just had a great time.
The staff was pretty attentive, then again, the people we were with were spending a ton of money so they really did not have a choice. Â
The crowd was a nice, classy, professional crowd in town for business. The drinks were strong, just the way I like 'em.
The view (although we were inside the majority of the time) was breathtaking. Â I am very much looking forward to returning to this lounge on my next visit to Atlanta.
We were staying around the corner at the Westin and decided it was time to venture out in Buckhead for a nightcap. Â Our local friends suggested the rooftop bar at the W. Â I live in SF. Â I'm no stranger to W hotels. Â I'm also no stranger to snotty W hotel bars. Â I guess I knew what I was getting into. Â
There's a rope outside before you can get in the elevator. Â
Door guy: Do you have a reservation?
Us: Uh, no.
Door guy: hem. haw. Ah, well, I guess we can fit you guys in tonight.
(This was clearly all for theatric value)
Us: Uh, ok.
Took giant elevator with couch in it up to the top floor. Â Fancy dressed people and expensive cocktails coming right up. Â I ordered a margarita and it was seriously strong. Â I like that if they are charging you an arm and a leg for a drink, at least there's booze in it. Â
All the tables have little paper tents that say "reserved" except it was really hard to tell if they were actually reserved or just tables with little tents on them. Â Some people had bottle service and were clearly using the tables as intended. Â Others just drunkenly sat down and started using tables without regard for the paper tent signage. Â Not clear if that's OK so we stood around for awhile trying to guess and then opted to sit outside for a bit where we watched two drunk girls make total fools of themselves (spilling drinks, breaking glasses, falling over, sloppy, sloppy, sloppy - yet oh-so-entertaining). Â
Finished up our drinks and then headed out in the giant elevator with the couch. Â Time for bed.
I love love love going to Whiskey Blue, the rooftop bar at the W in Buckhead. I have been with groups and on dates and I always enjoy the ambiance and the waitresses are very personable. If you have the funds, try one of the fashion food dishes from Market (the W restaurant on the ground floor), which can be delivered right to your table at Whiskey Blue
The Peartini here is to die for! They put fresh slices of fruit in their martinis, which are delicious after you've finished with your drink. You have to eat your fruit quick, though- the waiters are super fast when it comes to clearing empty glasses from your table.
In the summer, it's nice to sit on the sofas on the side deck and have the white curtains waft in the breeze. This side has an amazing view of Buckhead and some of Smyrna/Kennesaw. The other side is best at night, when you see the lights from Midtown & Downtown.
Go drink and enjoy!
btw- every native knows that you can park at the cheap parking lot below the building to the left of the W- or you can park at the Around Lenox Shopping Center for free...........
This place is the quintessentially 'tragically hip' rooftop bar (by Atlanta standards - not by NYC standards). Â The music is very good - although it changes and becomes much louder after 10 pm when the DJ takes over (tilts away from Moby + Coldplay and toward dance + rap). Â The waitresses are, shall we say, not selected at random or even based on their competence. Â But I have no complaints about them whatsoever. Â ; ) Â
As to one of the other reviewer's comments - indeed, this is NOT a place to bring clients if you are hoping to conduct/close a respectable business deal. This IS the after-hours place you come to to celebrate closing that deal.
P.S. You'll enjoy the pepperoni pizza and the 'bon vie' cocktail.
The best thing I can say about Whiskey Blue is that once you get inside it's a really nice space (albeit expensive and leaning toward bourgeoisie at times). You'd think getting there would be the easy part. Wrong. Silly me just thought I could drive to the hotel, go inside, and then take an elevator to the top floor. That's kinda how you do it, but it's not that easy.
Once you get your car parked (more on that in a minute) you have to figure out which elevator actually goes up without a room key. I never found it and was briefly detained in an elevator before someone called it to the floor I needed - lucky for that otherwise I might still be riding up and down looking for the bar.
At this point the only other obstacle is waiting for a drink. I'm not referring to lines at the bar, but the unusually long time it takes to be recognized and for your drink to be poured. Â I was there on a slow weeknight and still waited several minutes even though I was the only person ordering a drink at the time. Â I ordered from their seasonal drink menu and I really enjoyed the "Clementine Crush." Â Perhaps waiting for it helped me savor it's delicate flavor. :)
As most every other Yelper pointed out there is a mandatory valet (and NO onsite self-parking). I can almost get over that, except that apparently on weeknights the parking attendants begin a practice of bypassing the cash register and pocketing all of the money. When I pulled up around 11:30 p.m. the valet asked me for my name and then told me he was going to be a favor by keeping my car up front. Little did I know the favor was actually for him since he wouldn't have to use a ticket if he didn't enter/exit the parking deck. Â By the way, I'm not just speculating about what they're doing because one of the guys working that night told me what they were doing when I requested a receipt. He wanted me to be "cool" about it. Sure, girl.
Anyway... to make a long story short I got hustled for $20 by the parking attendants... of course, this is after I got lost trying to go upstairs and then dropping almost $50 on 4 drinks. Thank goodness she's pretty, otherwise this would be a 1 star review.
Whiskey Blue is super trendy, ultra chic, and hyper expensive.
The decor is nice as it has many couches and tables and such to lounge on. Â However, each one has a reserved card on it, so the staff can ask you to move if they need to get some higher paying guests a table.
If you are a guest of the W Hotel, it is worth checking out because you have basically already paid the cover and for parking - the only expense you will have to eat are the hyper overpriced drinks.
However, if you are just looking for a night on the town this place should probably be avoided by most people who care enough to plan an evening using Yelp. Â
All in all if you decide to go, prepare for a pretty unwelcoming experience riddled with judgementalism and pretentiousness.
Not a fan, although the place has its redeeming qualities. Â First, I was really put off at being required to pay $12 for valet parking for 45 minutes. Â We went to Whiskey Blue before dinner one evening. Â The parking arrangements are a rip off...
My other complaint is that we intially sat at one of the nice sofas on the deck but when I got up I found that my pants (my ass in particular) were soaked through. Â It had rained earlier in the evening and the seemingly waterproof cusions were not. Â I said something to the waitress (beautiful and dressed nicely :-)) about it and she couldn't have cared less.
The drinks were good, nothing amazing, and expensive. Â But you go to this place for the view or the crowd. Â The decks are nice, the atmosphere chic, and this will be a hip place for a while. Â But for the money (especially with the parking fee), there are far better bar options, views, whiskey bars in the city.
This place is simple:
- if you like ultra-chic and trendy, this place is great
- if you hate paying for over-priced drinks, this place is NOT for you
- If you like seeing the waitresses dressed in skirts so skimpy that you see their panties (or see-through ones will get you to the goods that one's underwear usually covers).... well, you can see my reason for only giving this place 3 stars. Seeing the waitresses you-know-what when you're having a business meeting and trying to concentrate is just plain disgusting and slutty. So, take heed - sit at the bar if this isn't what you're going for!
On Wednesday, I had the slight misfortune of attending a network event at the W Buckhead Hotel. It was held at Whiskey Blue which I thought, would be a good idea, never been, chance to see what it's like.
At first when I parked my car, the valet communicated to me that it would be validated since I was going to the restaurant. But there are 2 restaurants. A regular restaurant and a bar. Who knew? Certainly not I? So I attend my thing, have a very expensive watered down martini (something about inadequate pours for a $12 martini is oh, so hurtful) and I get ready to leave. There in lies the problem. I went to my hostess at the bar for validation, she said, "Oh, they'll take care of that downstairs." Went to the concierge, and she expressed that I would be required to pay since I didn't dine in the restaurant. Why the heck didn't someone tell me this when I parked my car? So yours truly, in this age of 600,000 jobs lost had to pay some hotel $12 to park my car for an hour and half.
So I wrote the hotel's customer service and they sent it to the manager, and the manager made up some fake apology about the limited spots in the building and why they have to be fully valet.
It hurts more because across the street at the Mansion on Peachtree (which is much nicer by the way), and of course, the Ritz Carlton, it's complimentary valet. So take that! Hope you choke on the $12!
