This place is in an old house that they converted into a restaurant. Private groups can go into their own little room to have dinner which is nice. Service was outstanding even though our group was fairly large. I had the shish kebab and it was tasty but a little expensive ($21) for the portion size and the fact that it doesn't come with any sides other than rice mixed with lentils and a little bit of yogurt. Wine selection is limited and not very good. I tried a red which was undrinkable and they replaced it with another red that was just so-so. I then switched to white which was ok but nothing special. The big negative with this place is that the bench seating is VERY uncomfortable (even though there are a bunch of pillows available). Also the table is low and creates a very awkward position for eating. For that reason alone I won't be back.
Review Source:The service, the food & the hookah were really good but the lack of space killed the experience for me.
It was super cramped and we could not even move our legs. Hence, the 3 stars!
Would love to go back for the Persian food but only if I get the other seating area where I'v heard they have better seating.
I absolutely love divan. The atmosphere is so quaint, cozy, and romantic. This is a given with seeing how small the establishment is and from reading other reviews, so know before you go you will need a reservation! That being said, if you don't mind close quarters, Divan is perfect for dinner and a hookah! We didn't mind how close we were to our neighbors because they ended up helping us maneuver the menu since they were regulars and we were really only initially interested in a hookah and wine.
We actually didn't have reservations but the manager worked with us and had us seated within 10 minutes. He was very friendly and recommended the shrimp- we took his advice and it was INCREDIBLE! Followed by the most incredible dessert- the donuts (sp?). If you go, try the Pomegranate wine (neighbors advice- and they were absolutely spot on with this recommendation) - it is to die for and tops off the hookah perfectly! (note: it is a sweeter wine, perfect for the girls who love a good riesling but want a good sweet red instead!)
I cannot recommend Divan enough. Whenever we have out of town guests we make sure Divan is on the itinerary. Everyone is ridiculously friendly, from the valet to the servers, I have never had a more pleasant experience. While the evening out does end up being pricier than most "dinners", it is the total experience that makes it all worth it. I can't wait to become a true "regular" :)
