Loved this restaurant!
The historical, Hollywood style with a wooden deck patio nestled between 4 high rise buildings really made the experience for us.
This is also the perfect place to eat some good tapas-style food right before a show at the Pantages (we saw Sister Act The Musical that night.. fabulous!).
Definitely order the meat and cheese plate (the chef's choice is cheaper, and pretty darn good). The baked gnocchi was phenomenal. The chef's choice platter paired with the Atrea Skid Rosé just hit the spot.
Quick parking tip: Park in the huge lot just east of the W Hollywood - it's only $10 for the entire night in comparison to lots with higher rates nearby (and the restaurant valet!). The valet man at the restaurant gave us this little tip!
My wife and I were in town for a Hollywood Bowl concert and having read a review of this restaurant/bar in the NY Times we thought we would check it out and have a drink on their quite nice patio. We were given a menu and that's it. The wait staff all avoided us and after 10 - 15 minutes we gave up and left. I swear we used deodorant that morning. Â I suppose we could have gotten up and found a wait person and try to coax them over to take our order for their $11/glass of wine but it seemed too much trouble. They were not very busy.
Review Source:Let me preface by saying I have never posted a yelp review until this one.
I have eaten at Wood and Vine a few times now. Being a LA local I must insist that you eat anywhere but here. Seriously, you can walk one block down in almost any other direction and find a better restaurant than this one.
Let me start with the waitress (a red head). We had a party of six on a common theater night (Pantages). You all have read about Wood as Vine's famous chicken and waffles right? Well guess what, on a night when they knew they would be busy they only had two orders of it available. Of course we were five minutes too late for one of them. That would have been fine if the waitress had offered an alternative or offered a discount. But instead her reply was "well sorry, our chef is a diva." Upon asking if they were out of anything else she replied they were not, until I mentioned the pork belly. Too which she replies there were also only 2 available the whole night.
Which leads me to our next point. The quantity of food. When you order three ice cream scoops how much do you expect? How does does three melon balls worth of ice cream sound? Yah, it seems like a rip off. Let's move on. The cheese plate - phenomenal. Thankfully the chef had no part in preparing this. The pork belly was, for lack of a better term, disgusting. The pork sliders - subpar. The scallops were good, but when they cost $20 for 2 they better be. The only person truly happy was my aunt who ordered a vegetarian salad.
So, why was Wood and Vine such an awful experience this most recent time? It all comes down to a less than professional staff with sub par facilities. As were told by the waitress, her apartment has a kitchen the same size as this restaurant. How can a restaurant at the corner of Hollywood and Vine possibly survive with a tiny kitchen.
We finally decided to voice our discontent to a gentleman who we perceived to be the manager at the time. Quite frankly we were not only offended by the cost, but also of the quality of food and service. His solution was simply to offer a free glass of wine. And "had we told [him] earlier of our dissatisfaction, he would have made it up to." Of course he was unwilling to waking up stairs and discount our bill (we paid in cash.)
One positive note - the bar is nice.
I strongly urge you to eat anywhere else.
It must have been an off-night. I mean, I've heard such good things but I was SO disappointed. The drinks were great, had the penicillin and the raspberry beret. But the food, yikes. I think the chef is anti-salt because not one dish had any. Maybe someone forgot?
We had the avocado and heirloom tomato salad which was room temperature and had a weird after taste. Then we ordered the cornmeal-crusted okra as an appetizer which didn't come out for almost 45 minutes and when it did, straight up had NO flavor. Like, none. It came with an accompanying sauce which we had to slather on the okra to make it edible. We ordered the famous chicken and waffles as well. The chicken, again, had no flavor and was a little over cooked. Then the waffle and sweet potatoes were super mapley to the point that we couldn't really finish the plate even though we were still hungry. The one redeeming dish was the potato gnocchi with patty pan squash and pickled onions. Great dish.
Maybe we just ordered all the wrong things? It really wasn't worth the $90, that's for sure. But I guess that's what I get for having dinner in Hollywood.
Ended up going to a birthday party here, and didn't have a very good experience.
We were seated in the "lounge area" upstairs, which doesn't have waitstaff, so you have to order from the bar downstairs.
I went down to order some food and drinks, and was told by the manager that I could not order any food at all. Â Apparently the kitchen is not big enough to handle food orders for people in the lounge area (which isn't very big). Â I understand that might cause a problem if everyone up there orders the baked gnocchi, but we weren't even allowed to order olives and chips, which seem like things that wouldn't overburden a kitchen. Â The manager told me he would try to get some tables together for a few of us to go down in shifts and order food, and then never followed up with us on this.
The moment I decided I would never come back here was when I was walking past someone else's lounge table on my way out and saw that their party had been able to order food. Â
The cocktail I had was good, but I will make up an excuse to avoid this place next time.
I've never been inclined to order Chicken and Waffles, but our service said they were definitely a house specialty, so I have them a shot. I was definitely not disappointed. Not greasy. Perfect sweetness. Yum!
The whiskey selection was also quite good. Tried an amazing 12-year Japanese brand, which was amazing.
Only reason I gave three stars versus 4 stars was the fact that our dinner felt a little rushed. Our server informed us he was leaving and we should take care of the tab right away. Hate feeling rushed when a place is still open for another 2 hours.
A group of friends and I came here before the Pantages because our favorite pre-show restaurant just closed down. We were pleasantly surprised and now have a new favorite pre-show place to go to!
First, the ambiance here is really charming. Very LA hip after-work and hipster crowd. Really nice outdoor courtyard that we were sat in. A little cramped, but I think that's the style of the place.
So the food- it's small plates. You're supposed to order a bunch and share- my fiance and I aren't too into sharing and neither was the other couple that we went with. So we ordered as couples, which didn't really work since our stuff came out 20 minutes before the other couple's. Whatever, it was all still really good. Ok, we ordered the cheese/meat plate which was good but small for the price (almost $20). You can choose a combination of 3 or 5 different meats and cheeses. The meats were ok- the most interesting one was the chicken and waffle pate.
We also ordered the baked gnocchi- this was the biggest disappointment to me since it was really mushy. Sauce was good though. We also got the baked mac and cheese, the chicken wings (spicy and allot of sauce), the beet salad and the fried chicken on a waffle. The fried chicken on a waffle stole the show! It was so good! The portion on that one is large enough to have for dinner. We finished off pretty much everything. The chicken wings were so-so as was the mac and cheese.
The booze- there's a full bar! The have some specialty craft beers and some interesting wines to choose from. The feature a wine every month (I think) on their menu that was reasonably priced at $6 a glass. It was pretty good and the lowest priced one on the menu.
I can't wait to come back to this place and try out some of the other things on the menu.
Having visited many of the restaurants around the Pantages already, I wanted to take my best friend to a new place for her birthday. Wood and Vine was my random choice - and it will no longer be at random! I will make it a point to go again! They graciously accommodated us without a reservation and the service was excellent. Having never been there before, we asked for an overview of the menu from our server who was gracious and helpful. Each of our food choices (cheese & pâté, salad and gnocchi) were exquisite! Then, dessert! As we were celebrating, we tried each of the two desserts on the menu. The butterscotch pot de creme was fantastic! Highly recommended!
Review Source:Wood and Vine serves great food and great drinks. Both times I've been it's been quiet (but I was visiting at unsociable hours). It has a comfortable, dark ambiance in the main bar area, and it's a little more social in the rear patio where they also have the cool stone counter around a fire.
The menu is a little limited, especially if you're not big on fish and cheese. My fault not theirs, but it didn't leave me a great deal of choice. I went for the chicken and waffles with sage butter. At first I was concerned that the maple flavor was a glaze and not something I could portion myself but it worked well. I'd still have liked the freedom to pour some extra if I'd wanted. The chicken was generous and well cooked, and the sage butter - which I've never seen on fried chicken - absolutely made the dish.
They've got a good selection of whiskies and some great cocktails if you like your drinks strong. They're less into the fluorescent and fruity drinks, more into bitters and vermouth.
Prices were pretty reasonable, but the food is definitely better value than the drinks.
I'd eat there again, but not often just because there are only a few things on the menu that I'd enjoy. That said, they seem to rotate the menus pretty regularly as each one has the day's date printed on it.
I'm dropping a star as I was sat next to a party which was supposedly just about to move on, but they were still there when I was done eating, and due to the fact that the menu and I just didn't get along.
We stopped in Wood & Vine early Sunday morning...??? Yes, I suppose 1A is early Sunday morning - after catching a movie at the Arclight. I absolutely can't do the crowds on Cahuenga in Hollywood unless I've prepared myself for it.
We wanted to grab a a glass of wine, ok who am I kidding - we wanted to grab a bottle of wine somewhere and after passing through several spots on Cahuenga we wandered in here and gave them a shot.
The place is ok, the back open patio is cute! I liked the black and white old movie projection on the wall.
I didn't care for the wine list or the Pinot from Oregon we selected.
The patio closes down at about 145A and we had to move indoors. It's nights like these when you realize it's LA and a 2A closing time is sometimes just too early.
I don't think we'll return but it's fine for what it is.
I love this place. Â Its definitely an underrated restaurant. I have eaten here around 20X in the past two years.
Bar.
Service is amazing. Â They have an vast selection of liquors and specialty cocktails. Â I am a huge fan of rum, and they do not disappoint. Â They take a lot of pride in their drinks and will always craft a drink per your specifications--and happily. Â Kudos to the bar manager.
Food.
Always on point and consistent. Â I'm a very picky eater, and I never complain about what I eat. Â There simply is no reason to gripe. Â I've sent dishes back at Mr. Chow and Maestros if that's an indicator of my pickiness.
Service.
It used to be great. Â I used to have Great as my waiter. Â Some of the service staff is a little inattentive at times, but not to an annoying level. Â Guest interaction is a little dry and boring. Â Not a lot of personality. Nothing that should dissuade you from coming here though!
I just went back to try this place out again, and I have to say, that they more than made up for my first experience - they gave us a beautiful memory for our "monthiversary" outside on the patio under the stars. Their service was top-notch, the food was delicious without any hiccups, and the ambiance was superb.
We ordered a cheese board again and this time the flavors of the cheeses were lighter but were just as delectable as the cheese we had the first time. The fried soft-shelled crab was crunchy but tender in the inside (delicious!) and the scallops were cooked so well that they melted in my mouth. We also ordered the beet salad which is a great choice if you are going vegetarian for the evening - the savory taste of the beets plus the candied nuts that were there was a great combination.
The service that they provided was perfect in the way that they were there when we needed them and let us be alone when we wanted to be alone. The waitress went over the menu and she did very well! - I was able to order the meal that would be perfect for our mood that night. The manager was very helpful as well introducing himself and even offered to take our cheese board that evening off of our check due to our experience before and compensated us for our first experience.
Overall, it was a wonderful night and we can't wait to go back again! If you are looking for a special place and you happen to be in orange county, then I highly recommend Wood and Vine to be that special place you drive all the way to LA for - I recommend this because that is exactly the tradition that me and my husband have started.
Came here for dinner on a Friday. Â Wood & Vine is a pretty good tapas restaurant for the area, although I probably wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again.
We made reservations pretty easily on Open Table. Â The restaurant wasn't too crowded so I don't think you really need reservations. Â Service was ehhh okay. Â Parking in the area sucks because it's Hollywood... hard to find anything free and the lots nearby are pretty packed / sketchy. Â If you're only going for dinner (and not a show or out afterwards), I'd recommend valeting your car. Â They only accepted credit card payment for valet by the time I left.
The menu is okay; mostly standard dishes for a tapas restaurant. Â We ordered the:
-Seared duck liver
-Roasted beet & candied walnut salad
-Confit duck leg in truffle gravy
-Fried chicken & waffle
The duck liver wasn't that great...=( I miss foie gras! Â The beet and walnut salad was pretty standard, but you could tell the ingredient quality was not thaaat great. Â The fried chicken & waffle was pretty good. Â The chicken was juicy, although there seemed to be a lot of breading and the gravy wasn't my favorite. Â I would reorder the fried chicken & waffle, but it's not something I would go to Wood & Vine just to order. Â My favorite dish was probably the confit duck leg. Â It was cooked nicely and had a good flavor to it.
Overall, I had a fine experience at Wood & Vine, though it was not particularly memorable. Â I tried to come back one night before going out to Drai's (which is walking distance), but they were closed for a private event. Â I don't really plan on coming back unless I am trying to grab a drink or bite before heading out in Hollywood.
- Making a reservation goes a long way otherwise your most probably sitting at the bar.
- The set up is sick, vibe is super chill, JR Kimbrough's "tramp" playing out the ceiling in the background (thats wasup)
- Nice alchy select. My friend's sirah was good and I enjoyed my Macallans 12
- Truffle fries were ok, nothing spec.
- Pan seared scallops: Fire. Ginger grits were amazing with the mix of coconut milk and horseradish along with bok choy; try it.
- Chicken and waffles: good, definitely not what I'm used to, but the maple syrup was legit. The chicken was succulent and had great flavor. Really though I'd rather go to Shakey's for that fried chicken if you kno what I'm sayin; ratchet tip.
Overall I like the ambience of this spot. It's cool to chill at and have a drink. Food is slightly overpriced, but nonetheless good. Service was good.
Pretty good! The fried chicken and waffles were phenomenal, that's for sure! The chicken was superbly cooked and seasoned and the waffles were yummy.
The red quinoa salad though... the quinoa wasn't cooked. Â I'm no quinoa "expert", but when I prepare quinoa at home myself it's very fluffy and soft. Â This quinoa was very hard... had not been cooked thoroughly, which made the salad kind of a downer. My date said she felt like she was eating rabbit food.
The two of us got there around 7:30-7:45 on a Tuesday. Â We didn't think we'd need to make a reservation, but you definitely should. Â Even though the place was pretty empty, we got shoved upstairs in the corner in between the bathrooms and the door to the outside that was constantly being left open (despite it being super windy last night!).
The waitress was friendly and our service was courteous and prompt.
The drinks were decent. I had the Naughty Rabbit and the It's Not You It's Me. Both were tasty.
This place was a nice change from the usual spots on Hollywood Blvd. Â
Far from Cliche, the ambiance, the creative menu, and the effectiveness of the staff made my experience a good one, one worth a 4 star. Â
Sat outside at their fire pit, which is surrounded by an apartment complex, giving the impression of a restaurant in NYC. Â They also were playing an old black and white movie with Humphrey Bogart on a projector screen that was shown on the side of the wall of the complex. Â
Started off with a fried goat cheese appetizer...come on wouldn't you? Â
Delicious dish, clever idea and served with a tomato based aioli. Â Just be careful because the cheese is scorching hot when served. Â
First Entree was their already famous chicken and waffles. Â The chicken was much more gourmet then Roscoe's down the street and their waffle could not compete, but that by no means meant it was bad. Â The waffle was delicious as well and the flavor profile hit very pleasantly, so well in fact I would definitely put it in contention with the age old classic chicken n waffles down the st. Â
Second dish was their pork osso bucco. Â Very juicy, super tender, and full of flavor. Â Loved this dish but could never beat legitimate veal osso bucco
Lastly, we capped off our dinner with their specialty dessert I have never seen previously in my life, Cucumber sorbet! Â Kudos for originality. Â
Very light, not overwhelming and easy on the stomach after a good meal, this is definitely worth a go for any cucumber lovers out there.
Great spot. Â The food, drinks, ambiance, and staff are all fantastic. Â My only complaint is that the dishes are small and pricey. Â It's really good, but be prepared to spend a lot if you want a full meal. Â That being said, the chicken & waffles and the 5 points manhattan are f*#@ing delicious.
Review Source:Just to let you know, I've only had drinks here, so my review does NOT reflect food.
Wood &Vine is a hidden gem among the over-the-top, flashy, pretentious Hollywood Blvd. It's classy, low-key, perfect for gathering, catching up, and enjoying excellent cocktails and ambience.
I have had couple cocktails, simple & complicated, and they were all made very well. The noise level is about average. It's not impossible to hear your companions, but you will have to speak up just a bit if it's crowded. It has plenty of seating around the bar and on the second floor. It might be a good second or third date spot if you get there early enough.
Enjoy a classy Hollywood night :)
I don't even know where to begin. Not many restaurants these days can deliver the full package of great customer service, ambiance, and food. Wood and Vine sure put the cherry on the cake. My familyI don't even know where to begin. Not many restaurants these days can deliver the full package of great customer service, ambiance, and food. Wood and Vine sure put the cherry on the cake.
Food was great. Decent beer list. and an amazing playlist in the background, any restaurant that can slip in AVB is a fan of mine.
I highly recommend going, especially on a Monday :)
This place would have 5 stars if it wasn't for lacking service. Â We didn't get our drinks until after our apps. Â The food was outstanding. Â Drinks were good. Â Wine list is decent. Â
BEWARE: lot's of out door seating. Â There are heaters but ladies with cold hands like me be prepared. Â
Moral of the story: I'd go back.
The food is good and the whiskey selection, outstanding! Â Great whiskey list. Â Make it a point to take a look if you're into this distilled spirit that will warm your, well, spirit. Â
Menu is eclectic, as is the seating and layout of the place. Â You'll find many great choices and the service, at least as far as we were concerned, was excellent. Â Server was very mindful of our need to make a show across the street at the Pantages. Â By the way, this is a perfect spot for a Pre-Pantages show meal.
Truffle Chips are delicious. Â Pork Belly, Mussels (Awesome), tacos, everything we tried was really good.
I went to have dinner and drinks here, before going to the Pantages theater, last night. While waiting at the bar for a friend, I met LIZ, the bartender. She was very nice, explained the menu and made suggestions. Her bartending skills are phenomenal! She made me a fancy Bloody Mary, http://YUMMMM.com.
My friend and I had the grits and chicken and waffles. The waffle and grits were ok, but the chicken good. Our server, I can't remember her name provided very good service too.
I love the vibe of the Restaraunt, ALL STAFF were kind and had a pleasant demeanor and smile. We ate on the 2nd floor. It was very nice and cozy. Our seats overlooked the bar area...Nice! There are comfy sofas and tables on the 2nd level near the window. I'll be going back to have cocktails and appetizers in that area.
After our meal we sat outside near the fireplace to finish our cocktails. A NYC feel to this place, which I loved!
I give WOOD and VINE 5 STARS, even though the waffles and grits were just okay. The service, hospitality, decor, drinks and patio made up for what was loss in the food dept. I'll try something else when I take my hus back for dinner!
It takes either a wonderful experience or a truly horrible nightmare of a time to persuade me to write a review. This was definitely the latter. Before I get into details this place was: 1) Overpriced for a small amount of food that tastes bland compared to restaurants of similar style, or even what could be made at home. 2) Rude staff with aloof attitudes when being served. 3) Hostile attitudes if you even mention your seeing a show at the Pantages if you are suspected of sitting at your table to eat and wait. 4) Overcharged us on the bill and calculated tip wrong. How hard is it to work a register?. Definitely avoid, check the other nightmare reviews if your thinking otherwise.
Here goes. . . .First of all my part and I were right on time for our reservation at 5:30 but the doors were not open which alarmed us. We checked online and found out they are open exactly at 5:30pm. While standing in the rain wondering what was wrong someone did finally approach the door and let us know that they were still preparing the restaurant. I asked if we could sit at the bar to wait, seeing how its raining (not mentioning how perturbed I was at the late opening), but was quickly rebuked as "we cannot let you in till everything is ready." I was ready to take our dinner somewhere else but was talked down by my party, also not wanting to walk in the rain somewhere else.
Before we were eventually let in a member of my party had to get her purse from her car. Which the waitress was quick to point out that "all of your party isn't here so we cannot seat you yet". Mind you the restaurant is almost entirely empty, since it just opened, I still kept my cool and insisted she would be back soon. We were seated in a corner near the servers dish and glass counter, sardines have more room in my opinion. We met hostility when the waitress overheard us talking about being excited about our show at the Pantages. She said "We have a big party at 8pm and need the space if your going to be here too long". If I wasn't hosting our get together I can tell you for a fact I would have tore her high and mighty attitude down to size. I merely stated "No, we will not be extending our stay any longer than we have to as our show will start before then."
The food portions were dismal. My initial thoughts when seeing our food, especially our meager cheese plate, sums it up best: It is as though this restaurant is pretending to be high class yet the taste leaves your taste-buds wanting and the portions leave your stomach unsatisfied.
There is no redemption for this kind of idiotic behavior which calls itself service at Wood and Vine and the flavor of its food is so bland as to mock the very essence of fine dining. Needless to say I will never come back and will go so far as to steer anybody clear who is either looking for a place to eat before their show at the Pantages or happens to be with a 20 mile radius in a search for good food.
"Can I get the Eggs Benedict but 86 the pork? Maybe Florentine style or just a slice of tomato."
"Let me check."
[waiter returns]
"We don't have the ingredients to make them Florentine and the chef is particular about removing the pork from the plate as it will change the taste."
"Of course it will. It will taste like it doesn't have pork."
[awkward pause]
"Look, just make it without pork. Do they come with hash browns?"
"It comes with a small green salad."
"Fine."
I paid $14 for 2 poached eggs on white toast with hollandaise sauce.
Overrated.
The ambiance is great. Â The outside dining area makes you feel like New York. Â I was with my girlfriends but it could be a great date place.
On the bad front - it was not a nice menu for vegetarians. Â I hate when they just offer lettuce or pasta as the veg entrees. Â We needs veggies and protein too! Â I'm not saying that everyone should stock soy chicken (though they should!), it's not tough to stock tofu, lentils, quinoa, or offer a veggie pasta or vegetable plate. Â It was chilly outside and my only options were cold salads!
But overall the patio was nice, and good drinks and good company made up for my hungry tummy.
We came in strictly for drinks before a show at the Pantages, and had an excellent experience.
Each cocktail is made with quality ingredients and care; it's rather neat watching them hand-crush mint or use a mortar/pestle set-up in front of you. My Pimm's cup was expertly made, and beautifully presented.
My friend, however, was not happy with her drink (too strong), and the bartender was more than accommodating - she took the drink back, remixed it, added an additional flavor, did some intricate trick with a flame and an orange peel, and voilà - produced something delicious.
The bartenders are extremely attentive and know what they're doing; prices are typical ($11-13-ish). I only wish we were hungry enough to try the butterscotch pot de crème!
Small plates but packed with a bunch of flavor. I came here with a few friends on a Friday night and it was pretty busy, but we were prepared and made a reservation. My favorite dishes of the night had to be the pumpkin salad and the chicken and waffles. The pumpkin salad was so, so good. I wish it came in a larger portion The chicken and waffles were great too, crispy chicken and a perfectly made waffle with maple syrup. I would definitely say their take on the chicken and waffles is one of the best I have had. We also ordered the mussels which were also very delicious. The broth they were cooked in was extremely flavorful, I wished we had more bread to dip it in.
I loved the vintage feel of the place too. Very 1920s like and they make great drinks. The only con I have with this place is the parking. Its located next to the W and another restaurant and along the busy streets of Hollywood. They do have a valet but the people who park along the street block the valet guy, so they can be hard to find. I had to park in one of the lots along the streets, which was $5. It was a little further then the other lots, which can range from $10-20 depending how "busy" the parking lot guys say it is. Try this place out and valet your car.
I came here with a friend last night to catch up and have some girl time. We're both a lover of cheese plates and after reading some of the more positive reviews, I decided to make a reservation for dinner.
We were late for our reservation (due to rain and just poor planning), but the hosts were courteous and managed to squeeze us at the bar. The bartender was very friendly and prompt which was appreciated. Not to mention, everyone that works there is so good looking!
We quickly ordered the cheese plate to start and decided to share the mushroom risotto. They brought both out at the same time. The cheese plate was quite small portion, it came with mustard and pickled veggies... which were so thinly sliced you could hardly taste the pickling. Some nuts and some sort of fruit or jelly would have been nice.
By the time we got to the risotto it had already begun to go cold. We had expected the cheese plate to be slightly more abundant and decided to get dessert since we were still peckish after the risotto. Immediately the "cream cheese bread pudding with salted caramel ice cream" caught our eyes, despite the warning of a 15 min wait time we decided to go for it.
15 minutes does feel like an eternity when there's food involved and when it finally arrived we were a bit ho-hum about it all. It definitely didn't live up to 15 minutes of expectations. First off, we noticed again it was small in size. It was about the size of a regular breakfast muffin with a tiny scoop of ice cream on top, little more than an inch circumference. The top of the "muffin" was slightly charred, no problem, I like crunchy... but the interior was dry... without any sauce and not enough ice cream to make up for it. For a dish with a wait time and cream cheese in the title, it was a disappointment.
Overall, the food was alright. The experience was ok. The wine was good and the people were nice. But with as many restaurants available in the surrounding area, I don't think it was enough for me to wish to return. Maybe for a drink if I happen to be closeby.
Ambiance is good. Food portions are sooooo small.....we wanted to stop by McDonalds afterwards......
SCALLOPS: 2 pieces. Nothing special.
MUSSELS: Really good. Best dish here. We kept dipping our breads into the white
           broth.
Some ppl got the PRIX FIXED menu...$18.....salad, chicken, dessert.
The chicken was salty & burnt. Ew. Gross.
Salad - too sour. Not good.
       Â
We ordered the $18 bottle of Syrah. Thank goodness for alcohol. It made us feel better about the horrible food.
I would LOVE his place if it weren't so "Hollywood" in every sense of the word.
Lovely Pretentious Atmosphere: You get the feeling that someone famous could be just around the corner. Everyone's dressed to impress. The bar feels really classy - like something out of the 1920's, and once you pass that, there is a secluded outdoor patio complete with cushioned chairs and a fire pit, surrounded by tall buildings on all sides.
Good Service: I never once had to ask for my water to be refilled; it just happened.
Great Food Of Miniscule Portions: They really aren't kidding when they say it's "Tapas Style". Impressive bonus: the menu shifts daily. Highly recommend the Vegetarian Potato Gnocchi (Super soft - not chewy at all!) and Confit Duck Leg (One of the more moderately portioned plates - never knew lima beans could be so delicious.)
Sophisticated Drinks: Whiskey lovers, rejoice, there is an extensive menu just for you. Must try the 12 year-old Yamazaki.
Odd Bathroom: Can't speak on behalf of the men's restroom, but there is one stall I had the misfortune of using in the Ladies' room, that is RIDICULOUSLY small. The door was less than a foot away from my face. I think it might be designed for small children or midgets. Not even joking.
And last but not least --- It's Pretty Expensive. If you're rich, go to town, whatever. But, if you're on a budget, like me -- I recommend coming here when you are not starving/hungry.
I've really tired to like this place. Â It's quite a busy location, situated right smack in the middle of Hollywood Blvd. Â It's great for a quick drink right before a show, but it's a bit touristy. Â And if you're from LA, it's something we try to avoid. Â
I had dinner once at the bar. Â It was the Monday pre-fixe menu. Â It was disappointing all around.
