Great hot dog. Â The mini corn dogs were great as a side. Â I imagine it is like a corn fritter with a piece of hot dog in the middle. Â I will have to get the corn fritters next time. Â I can't wait till the next time I go. Â So yummy. Â For a hot dog joint this is as tasty as it gets.
Review Source:Great place to go when you're looking for something different (and more hearty) than your standard Chicago dog. Â The fries are good too! Â They moved to a new location (on 35th St. between Emerald and Halsted) which is a lot bigger and nicer than the old one. Â The kitchen is wide open so you can watch them make your meal. Â The owners said they will have an outdoor patio when the weather improves too :-)
Review Source:I recently read that there was a hot dog joint on the south side that offered hot dogs from "all over America." Â After a little bit of a hunt, I found Zebra's tucked away in Bridgeport at a location different than what was posted online. Â Anyway, I had to stick with the Chicago classic dog and also one of their famous hot sandwiches. Â Overall, the hot dog wasn't as classic as I thought it would be. Â It wasn't even served on the correct bread. Â But they do offer one amazing menu item... the Corn Fritter. Â I would probably come back to this average hot dog joint, but not primarily for their hot dogs.
Review Source:My wife and I live in Bridgeport, and we went to Zebra's tonight after hearing a few good things about it.  We were not disappointed. The hot dogs were flavorful and friggin' huge, the buns were amazing and the toppings were well portioned.  i had the Reuben and the Cincinnati  (Onions, 1,000 island and Chilli-Chese with onions).  Both dogs were super good.
Two more things: Â The fries are to die for and the corn fritters were giant, fresh, fluffy and sweat. Â Highly recommended!
Had the food been brought to me at home, I might have given a higher rating. The food was all really good. Unfortunately, I actually went into the restaurant myself and ate there. That's where my 4 star rating has to turn into a 3 star. If I could just rate the interior, it would actually be 1 star. I don't mind eating at a "dive." I do however mind a dive that is not clean. This is a little hole in the wall type of place...formerly Ruby's Ribs. There is no air conditioning and only a few tables. The tables were dirty...with actual dirt on them. The windows were open and I understand dust gets blown around, but come on, wipe those tables down! Also bothersome were the items placed on the tables. My table had a single dirty bottle of mustard. None of the other tables had any condiments whatsoever. Also, I had 2 paper napkins just strewn about on the table. Some tables had a napkin or two, some had none. We also had a dirty salt shaker. I just don't understand that kind of lack of attention to detail. It would take about 20 minutes and $20 to turn this dirty dive into the kind of dive in which one could be proud.
Review Source:This place has outstanding steamed hot dogs. Â The owner is a gem. I will definitely be a recurring customer. Â Hot dog was very tasty!! Â And I think a soda was a buck. Â
As for the decor, have you ever been to a Chicago hot dog joint??? Â Get with the program! Â Jimmy's. Â Gene and Jude's. Â They are hot dog joints!!!
Visit this place. Â You will enjoy.
The people who own and run the place are very nice. Â I had their chili hotdog with fresh cut fries. It was not bad.
I really liked their corn fritters. I would go back just to order the corn fritters. The hotdogs I can do without, but I would recommend this hotdog place to anyone who wants variety of toppings for their hotdogs.
I really liked the food. Â My hot dog was huge and super tasty (I had the hot dog with cheese, bacon and green onions) - and the price was great - $5 for a huge Nathan's hot dog and very generous portion of fresh cut fries! Â YUM! Â The corn fritter was sooo yummy, except that it had that weird after taste you get when you eat stuff that's been fried in crisco...but I don't think that's going to keep me from ordering them again cause it was really really that good...it left me wanting more.
Anyway, why only 3 stars? Â the place itself needs some work... not sure if they were in a rush to open this restaurant, but it really is a hole in the wall. Â If this doesn't bother you, then please stop by and sit a spell, as for me, I will be returning, but my orders will probably be "to-go."
I am in love with the hot dogs here. I've loved every different gourmet hot dog I've tried. The service is always great and the corn fritters are amazing too! My only complaint is that the hand cut fries are most often soggy, don't get me wrong they taste yummy but the soggy-ness kind of ruins it.
Overall though a delicious and affordable gem that is definitely worth the walk from a Sox game!
One look at me would tell you -- I like to eat. Â So when I tell you that one bite resulted in $15 of food being immediately discarded -- all I can say is approach with caution. Â
I'd also echo the other review here noting poor sanitary conditions. Â I'm frankly surprised this place has ever passed a heath inspection (or that it would meet fire code for that matter). Â Ah, Bridgeport.
I live in BP and thought I would try Zebra's since I only live a couple of blocks away. Â The most unfortunate part off the bat is the older gentleman working when I stopped in COUGHED DIRECTLY INTO HIS HAND and didn't wash his hands until I asked him to do so. Â He didn't seem too pleased with the request, but too bad. Â I work in food service and am militant when in comes to my staff's and own handwashing practices.
Outside of that, My food was prepared with long tongs and was touched by bare hands, and all was made to order, including the fresh cut fries. Â The dog and fries were really great tasting. Â Maybe using food service gloves will entice me to return, but the blatant lack of good hand washing practices is a bit of a deal breaker for me :(
Holy hot dog! This place is the best hot dog place in Bridgeport! I love that they thought outside the box to bring gourmet dogs to Bridgeport, and the price is nice! $5 for a delicious and filling hot dog with fresh cut fries! I've spoken with the owner Lenore and she uses Nathan's hot dogs and bolillo bread from the mexican bakery down the street! Apparently Time Out! Chicago gave her a sour review, sorry guys this isn't Hot Dougs, but it is a treasure in the now growing Bridgeport foodie scene!
Review Source:These aren't typical hot dogs. They are very tasty. If I let Timeout dictate where I eat, then I would have missed this gem (never trust them!). I'm not sure anyone could compete with Hot Doug's for greatest gourmet hot dog shop of all time, and that includes Zebra's. BUT down here in Bridgeport there is nothing finer than a Zebra's Hot Dog. I hope they stick around. We need all the options we can get and this one is top notch! They use Nathan's jumbo dogs and Nathan's chili, which I love!
Review Source:Great Mother and Daughter team up to serve the best Hot Dogs, "bone in ham" and Swiss sandwiches and fresh cut fries you'll find on the south side of Chicago!
This is no joke, try it, it was the best kept secret in Bridgeport. Â I had the "bone in ham" ans Swiss today. Â They remembered my last order and provided the spicy brown mustard on the side without me saying a word!!
If you want a great sandwich and fries go to ZEBRA's!
Great addition to the neighborhood, 3/4 lb hot dogs with a variety of selection from the Classic Chicago, to the BMT to the Philly dog. Fries and fritters are great have a great fillet sandwich that can get overlooked when looking at the choice of hot dogs. My new favorite hot dog place.
