Love this place. Great bartenders, great selection, always fun.

    3.5 stars...

The reason this place has such impressive ratings is because of their relatively wide selection of craft brews on tap and bottles. That and the free popcorn (apply your own salt and/or Old Bay), and back patio.

For me I care more about my calorie intake and budget so although a tasty craft brew is nice from time to time, a $3 Miller Light would make me more satisfied. Drafts start at $6. There's one $5 draft (Woodchuck Cider) or so I thought until the bartender charged me $6 for it and I didn't feel like bringing up the possible typo in their menu.

Their backyard has ridiculously high concrete walls and a complete tree covering so it feels a little dark and cave like but I'm happy with any place that has a decent sized yard with lots of tables (in this case picnic tables).

Overall as someone not concerned with finding a place with lots of craft brews I wasn't wowed by this place but should I want to go out with a beer connoisseur I'll certainly know a decent place to take them.

I love this place so much that I'm going to announce publicly what a flake I am. Ready?

I have left my wallet here TWICE. (I have to work on that.) BOTH times the bar staff had it waiting for me when I returned the next day in a panic. This place got integrity, man.

Great bar with a great atmosphere, plenty of good beers and a great staff.

The patio in the back is excellent.

Perfect for a group of people or just the casual drink date. Very chilled atmosphere.

    Highly recommended!

4th Ave Pub achieves everything it intends with grace and enthusiasm. It has a total neighborhood bar vibe with tons of regulars to meet from the neighborhood, but also serves the need for a great craft beer bar for passers through from LIRR and visitors to the Barclay Center.

The beer list is ever changing, with a few staples, and keeps avid craft beer drinkers interested with a great selection of awesome breweries and specialty beers as well as putting on unique events.

Don't miss the beautiful backyard and the popcorn machine, complete with Old Bay or the perfect hangover cure with their spicy Bloody Mary!

Also, the bartenders are super knowledgable about the beers on tap and will give you a taste of something new if you are searching for your next favorite beer!

    LOVE THIS BAR!

I read that 4th Ave Pub has a great beer selection.

    But, Delirium Tremens on tap!?

I'm not sure if I've ever seen that.

    Bottles, yes. But draft, no.

I spent nine bucks, but it was super smooth.

That's good enough for four stars from me; I left the fifth star with my ten spot.

They have very good sense of beer selections. Happy hours are the best time to visit for best deals. They have friendly staff. I like the way staff treated us. I shall definitely be back soon.

Went here with a group of friends on a Friday night. Beer selection is crazy extensive and free bar popcorn definitely doesn't hurt. Liked the atmosphere liked the patio out back.

Decent drinks, nice Bartender that smiles, they encourage you to make graffiti in the bathroom on the chalkboard and free popcorn with old bay seasoning to boot. Yummy!! The co workers and I had a great time and the drinks were nice and cheap. You can't go wrong!

I dig that sometimes you'll have to squeeze four adult-sized humans onto one bench for a very cozy and silly good time. It's a good bonding experience. Free popcorn breaks the tension.

Good beer, outdoor space, did I mention free popcorn? I really like free popcorn.

I wanted to go somewhere else in the nabe that was close to my house and where the happy hour didn't end at 7 p.m. I went to 4th Avenue Pub for the first time during my birthday weekend. We went during the last hour of happy hour and was obliged we stopped in the small dive bar, pub or whatever you want to call it.  It was super packed with the after work crowd  who flocked there from the train station. It was a cool vibe and we found a space at the other end of the bar.
My friend and I both had a few rounds of Long Island Iced Tea which were priced cheaply (of course for happy hour) and loaded with an abundant amount alcohol.  There was even an old school popcorn maker, nice to munch on while enjoying those spirits. We eventually  found a spot in the cut to sit at which was ironically the Miss Pacman game for two players. I would definitely recommend this place for the strict happy hour crowd or someone who just stumbles upon this place. Even if you get off work at 6 p.m. you can still enjoy happy hour here until 8 p.m.

This is one of my favorite bars, not just in New York, but ever. They have a fantastic beer selection, are totally willing to let you try beers, offer free popcorn, and have a really cute garden area in the back! I also love that they have Old Bay for the popcorn. It has a great vibe - and it's usually pretty easy to find a table. The candles and the christmas lights add character.

Awesome happy hour specials that last for NORMAL working people to experience.

Great bartenders. Love me some Old Bay seasoning on my popcorn.

Love this dive on a lonely Tuesday night.

I'm kind of in love with this place, especially since it's across the street from me. Great selection of beers and decent wine list as well (for a pub). Oh, and that addicting popcorn!

Love the popcorn machine ... and especially love that they have Delirium on tap ..... came here for some drinks before a NETS game ( a bit of a walk but well worth it), will def. try to return if I'm in the area.

4th Ave Pub used to be literally one door down from my apartment and I think its for the best that I moved :)

What an awesome (and constantly rotating) selection of beers. There are always awesome beer events with totally unique (super rare) or limited release beers from different craft breweries around the country. Kirk (the owner) brews himself and made an awesome Route 66 beer at Beer Camp (Sierra Nevada). I wish they would start making that beer...I think I went every day they had it on draft (not many...like 3 it ran out pretty quick).

Great back patio for groups. Love it here.

I had been here once before and didn't really have reason to review - for the good or the bad. Last night, I was on a date, and when the place where we were at closed early, I decided to continue the date here.

The place was pretty full, but we managed t o get a seat. When I went to get a drink for me and my date, the Bartender was Rude and outright Nasty to me, I have never ever experienced anything like that before in my life. He refused to get me a beer and instead began talking to a group of his friends sitting at the bar, while poking of me.

I spoke to a friend today, who told me that, a lot of religious Jews go on dates here, and because I was visibly religious looking (wearing a Kippah) it is possible that he wasn't a fan.

Either way, I was very disturbed.

AVOID at all costs. The worst bar in all of Brooklyn. Rude staff who smoke cigarettes behind the bar during business hours and when customers complain, they take your beers away and kick you out. I saw cockroaches on the popcorn too.

There are tons of other places to drink in the neighborhood. Don't waste your time or money.

This is my new favorite place to go in this area. $5 beers during happy hour, friendly bartenders, free popcorn, and huge selection of craft beers. Can't really be beat if you ask me. It can get a little too crowded from time to time though, which is a bummer. The outdoor space in back is great when it's warm out.

I said in my original review that I'd be back.  And I've been back.  Many, many times.

The beer is better.  The selection is better.  The clientele is better.

This place merits a very solid five stars.

Pretty chill bar with great bartenders and an interesting crowd. The ambience is nice and the crowd wasn't too terribly loud. My friend and I were able to have a very nice conversation without screaming at once another.

I highly recommend the Knob Creek Manhattan - straight up.

Basically, can be summed up by its spacious backyard, large list of microbrews, nice bartenders, usual slew of cocktails, happy hour until 8, free warm popcorn out of the old-timey machine and BYO FOOD.

Great bar, great times!  Go now!

Yay! What a great bar! I walked in here two years ago without knowing I would end up in the hood later-on. Now that I am a local, I really enjoy going here regularly. I was able to convince a lot of my friends of this pub, as well  - we had so many good times at the 4th Ave.

This is an absolute hotspot for BEER LOVERS! They have an awesome selection. My favorite: The Liefmans, a Belgian sour ale. For some reason they didn't have it when I was there 2 weeks ago but I really hope to see it on the menu soon again. They have outdoor seating, which can become kinda smoked up when all of the smokers decide to light their cigarettes at once. Other than that it's a huge outside garden-type of area with wooden benches and a ton of drunkards.

And you can always convince me with free popcorn and that old school popcorn machine! Yes!

Great craft beer selection at amazing prices. Nice atmosphere. The back patio is really cool, and the bartenders are always accommodating.

    Free popcorn!

Great beer and free popcorn. Who could ask for anything more? (Okay, I know a lot of people would ask for a lot more, but it's good enough for me!)

I came here with a group of friends last Friday night. The bartenders were oh-so-kind and obliged our request (i.e. demand) to put the gymnastics Olympic trials on TV. The atmosphere is chill, dark and dive-y.  The bar wasn't very crowded for a Friday night, but it isn't near too many other bars, and a half full bar is a good thing to me. They have a great selection of beers, both on draught and in bottles. The prices are bad either. Next time I end up back in this part of Brooklyn, I'll be sure to stop by for a beer!

I came here on a Friday night, and there was room in the backyard.  I'm from Manhattan--places there, on warm nights, they don't have room.  They're packed.  They're loud.  They're about as chill as Tripoli during a civil upheaval.  (ZING!)

But here, there was room.  It was busy, yet there was room.  And there was chill-ness.  We sat.  We drank.  It was pleasant.  What more can you ask for, from an outdoors bar on a warm spring night?

The only bummer was that they closed down the backyard at some point after midnight, which is nice for the neighbors I'm sure, but I could've stayed out there for a few more hours.

Self-serve popcorn, happy hour til 8p, what more can you want?

I liked the chill atmosphere of 4th Avenue Pub. The garden, located in the rear, is amazingly romantic. Who would have thought that from the exterior? It's definitely a place to meet up with buddies or to go alone with your boo.

I liked how they had the bathroom walls covered in chalk board. I guess it's a smart way to deter vandalism by giving people the permission to mark things up, temporarily. I thought it was a cute idea.

I will come back, to enjoy the nice beer selection, and the amazing popcorn with that spicy seafood seasoning.

It's hard to put my love for this place into words. This is my favorite bar, hands down. A great selection of very alcoholic, good beers, amazing bartenders, free popcorn, and a beautiful backyard.

It's really a neighborhood bar at heart, divey and cool. Which is just the way I like it.

Awesome selection of on tap and bottled microbrews. I'd give you a list, but let's save some server space on the Yelp hard drives for a few more reviews.

You can BYO food, or just enjoy the free popcorn. There is a nice outside courtyard, and dogs are welcome. Atmosphere is friendly and quiet. Nice place to hang out with friends and family.

Also, it's a short walk from Brooklyn Boulders, so it's convenient for some post climbing beer. I mean, if you are training for real mountains, a post climb beer is part of the training game.

What can be better than grabbing a few beers with friends...wait, how about free popcorn? This place actually has a popcorn maker machine, like the ones you see vendors in baseball games have!  Nom Nom Nom Nom Nom.

Aside from the free popcorn, this pub has a great selection of beers. I'm not a big beer drinkers but my boyfriend and his friends are, and this is one of their spots to go grab a few drinks.

There is tons of seating inside and outside and the pub gives a chill vibe.

4th Avenue Pub has every good facet of a Brooklyn neighborhood bar all wrapped up in one great subway-accessible package. The location makes it a great spot to meet up for a Brooklyn-bound happy hour or to meet friends coming in from Manhattan.

Beer - There is always, ALWAYS something great on tap here and they frequently have brewery events with very rare pours on tap. Founder's Canadian Breakfast Stout and Kentucky Breakfast stout were on tap here at the same time if that tells you anything. You're more likely to find unicorn blood on a draught list than either of those the other 364 days of the year.

Cocktails - Pretty damn good considering they're more well-known for their beer menu. If you're feelin fancy I recommend you seek your basil-infused pepper honeysuckle gin experiments elsewhere. Simple is key here.

Ambiance - Very casual and very whatever-goes because it's not divey and not fancy either. You could come here to catch up with friends or come here for a first date/hookup/lolidunno with someone. The tables in back lend themselves to somethin' somethin.'

Service - Never had a problem here with the service and they manage to keep up even when the place is really packed.

If you're hungry South Brooklyn Pizza is nearby and you can order in Mexican from Oaxaca down the street.

This is a really cool local bar. The bartenders are welcoming and friendly (Ralph). The drinks don't break my pockets. And thats important cuz I'm broke. They also have a wide variety of beer.

the free popcorn is a major plus.

I've been a regular at this bar for 7 long years. I got engaged here! It was my favorite bar for quite some time. There used to be a bartender here named Lucas, who was fantastic. I'd walk in, and he'd say "Hey Lisa! Hefeweizen!" and it felt like I was on the set of Cheers, where they knew my name, and my drink. Actually, there used to be many fantastic bartenders. Not so much anymore.

I'm not a fan of the bartenders working here these days. I came here for my birthday, ordered 6 beers for myself, and didn't get a single buy-back. That's not the 4th Ave. Pub I used to know. Sure the free Old Bay popcorn is great, and the crowd isn't downright obnoxious (which is saying a lot for the area), but tons of bars offer free popcorn these days, and I really miss the old bartenders, and the old feel of the bar.

There is one remaining bartender that I adore, so I'll be coming back the nights he works. But aside from that, I miss the place that used to be my go-to joint, any night of the week, where 4 beers got you a buy-back, and free rounds of shots on occasion wasn't taboo.

I literally live around the corner, so this is my go-to bar. Here's the breakdown of the three bars on this block:

    1) Cherry Tree has a great backyard but crappy beer selection.
    2) Pacific Standard has a great beer selection but no backyard.
    3) 4th Avenue Pub has a great beer selection AND a great backyard seating area.

Another plus is that they serve Delirium Tremens and show IFC movies with no sound. Also, free popcorn and friendly bartenders. What more do you need?

Gritty on the outside and dark on the inside, 4th Ave Pub may be a little off the beaten path but is oh so chill and fun. Inside sweet beer smells seep from the picnic style tables. It's dark cool and laid back.

Free popcorn compliment their vast beer selection and you can even bring your doggie to their outdoor patio. What makes 4th Ave Pub even more awesome, write your tag, website or name on the chalk board in the bathroom. You'll get a kick out of the things drunk BK dwellers write.

I like being called sweetie and lovely by bartenders.

Wanna know what else I like?

Sitting in the sun, with a goblet of Southern Tier Oak Aged Un*Earthly IPA, text flirting, cigarette smoking.

I also like the fact that it's $2.00 off ALL DRINKS until 8pm, M-F.

I also like free popcorn, a chill crowd, the chalkboard where I wrote "DUMPED...AND I'VE NEVER BEEN HAPPIER", and again...super duper nice bartenders.

What the hell is not to like?!

    New Favorite Bar. NFB.

There are plenty of reasons to give this bar 3 stars. I can see it getting cramped in the front by the actual bar, but there is a decent amount of space and seating in the back, for conversation, for life, for living, for drinking, for eating, for conversation, for life, etc.

Here's why five star status: Chalkboard bathrooms. I wrote, "2 girls, 1 cup, 4000 hilarious reactions". A really solid list of beers on draft and bottled, lots of full bodied ales that really kick my ass, from Pleasantville to Belgium. Terrific music, and that's coming from the owner's iPod. Easygoing style, you pull up a stool, awkwardly crane your neck to one of the two tvs perched high above the bar, and watch in silence. Happy hour is 2 dollars off everything, which means you should try their more expensive beers while still saving money for the kids. A Specials song was playing, and I was wearing a Specials shirt. Which was kind of awkward I guess.

Here was my experience which led me to five stars though: the bartender, a lovely woman Nicole, she didn't want to DJ, too modest of course. I suggested she put in my iPod, I set it to a mix I made a few weeks ago. The place was digging it (there was dancing, to the Pipettes of course), but I had a Braid song thrown in there, and this dude who ends up wanting to jam, he's like, I haven't heard a Braid song in a bar, much less in the past 5 years anyway. And we will raise goblets of rock. This is musical bonding.

What bar would actually let you just put your iPod on? What chops, what balls, what fervor. Best thing is, the place is right off the Atlantic-Pacific stop. ANYONE can get here. Anyone. And it's next door to Pacific Standard, another proud bar of beers.
