I went here for a Communications class(to experience something I never have before and see how I react) and I had a blast. I went with a classmate and her gay friend, and they coached me around on all of the etiquette of being at a gay bar.
He bought me a drink(a $9, puny rum and coke) and we just sat and talked and observed. It was very interesting and I had a great time. I got hit on a couple of times, which was very flattering, and even held the hand of one of the performers as I tipped her.
It was a very positive experience, but the prices were a little high for me, so I won't give it a perfect.
Also, keep in mind this is my only gay bar experience to this point.
I have been going to Adonis for a couple of months now. Â I usually only get the chance to go on Saturday night, so not sure of the crowd on other nights. Â The typical Saturday night crowd is casual and easy going. Â There is usually not much drama (I know surprising when you have that many gays together)! Â
From what I understand there are new owners and they have recently dropped the cover to $5. Â If you are one of the few that get to the club before 10:00, there is not a cover. Â The drag show starts at 11:30 and is usually a good one. Â There are a few regulars in the show and then there are always guests that come in from time to time.
Overall, I always have a good time. Â The bartenders are friendly and the DJ's are top notch!
This place is miles from civilization, so you can either expect an expensive cab ride or a dui. If that isn't bad enough, the place is cavernous, so, even on NYE or Halloween, it feels empty. On top of that, the place used to be a banquet center before it was a club, so it feels like you are going to get drunk at a place where you'd expect to attend a wedding or bar mitzvah
Review Source:Too gay, but what do you expect when you go to a gay bar right?
It was actually not a bad place at all, very big and lots of accomodations. Â A nice big open dance floor with a middle platform. Â A stage room where the drag queens roam. Â The bar area and a the adjoining outside patio area. Â I even noticed a pool in the back of the building.
The cover was somewhat pricey at $10 and the location was a pretty far away to drive to.
The music however was my dismay. Â Its just a personal preference, but all the female vocals grind my nerves. Â There was one song that I remember from this summer in Germany and I rocked hard to it, but the rest was just par.
On the other side, people were friendly and I did not get accosted by anyone. Â Good place, would I go there again? Â Probably not without a great reason.

Adonis is a bit far for me to drive for a dance club, especially since the police usually have a late speed trap set up on westbound Columbia Parkway but as a cleaner and much more upscale experience compared to the Dock, it's been worth the drive. It's nice to be in a beautiful and comfortable club with a minimum of snobs.
The dance floor is huge. We visited one night with a group of belly dancers and had room to spread out. In the show room they have a small stage and tons of seating. The same night we sat and watched a rather good drag show. The room was pretty packed and it was great to find a block of seats even though the room was pretty full.
There is a cover charge that usually increases as it gets later. Dress nice, there is a dress code.
