I visited Angie's Luncheonette on a recent Saturday afternoon. Â Though we passed several other restaurants, this was the only one that was open and didn't have crowds of people waiting to be seated. Â There was no wait at Angie's and we were hungry so we opted to try it out since all we wanted was simple diner fare which is pretty difficult to mess up.
Even if they were giving the food away at Angie's they wouldn't have a need for crowd control. Â The waffle was of the prepackaged variety and was dry and tasteless. Â The cottage cheese tasted off and the fruit surrounding it was desiccated. Â The fries arrived in one tangled, greasy knot. Â I can't attest for the coffee but I noticed our waitress using her hands to get ice for the water glasses twice. Â Â
Save yourself from potential intestinal distress and unpalatable food and avoid Angie's.
I'm a resident of Chatham so I frequent Angie's quite a bit. The food is very good and the prices are reasonable. If you are a true local you can even leave a coffee mug that they will keep clean and ready to fill behind the counter on a shelf.
The coffee is good and as noted this is a good place during the week to read your paper and catch a bite to eat. During the weekends it's pretty busy in the mornings. I've been going to Angie's for about 5 years now.
While I will frequent other area diners, Angie's is my first choice.
This small diner serving breakfast and sandwiches exemplifies old-fashion nostalgic Chatham ( a town that has a New England feel) and in business for 16 years. Â You walk in and you think you're in a different era. Â I think this place is great to eat your breakfast and read your paper. Â The noise level is minimal so you could enjoy a quiet read......I just wouldn't bring my kids because with their loud chatter, it would mess the quiet communal air and offend the patrons. Â
I went there just for breakfast on my day off and the local patrons visit this place often. Â A communal feel. Â The regulars just come, greet the owners and the owners either know what to cook for them or they just shout out what they wanted.
Me, on the otherhand, it was my first time and I was seated at the counter and given a menu. Â The choices was immense so I just went simple - 2 scrambled eggs with home fries, toast and coffee for $6. Â Thought this was expensive compared to my Manhattan deli to-go price of the same items at $3.95. Â But, you don't get that homey nostalgic friendly ambience like this place in Chatham.
The patrons there prefer this place than another local competitor because it's spacious, clean and the friendly service.  They raved the food but I could only comment on simple scrambled eggs which were fluffy and just right...home fries were standard and not greasy.  Coffee was a bit too watery for my standard but maybe because the roast wasn't strong enough.  Overall  - A-Okay on food....pricey for what you get but you get that quiet New Englandish small town nostalgic feel in a diner with friendly service.
