We went here for a friends get together bar hoping thing. Â Don't worry about the name it's not a girly place. Â The night that we went the music was just our style. Â It was the good hip-hop and rap for those who like to take it back to the 90's. Â The drinks were made well. Â We had to use cash only though. Â They weren't taking cards. Â I'm not sure if that's a regular thing, or if it was just for that night due to some issues or something.
Review Source:I still call it Pink Elephant and always will. This place has made me see bright colored trunked animals more often than my poor brain should have (I am not even going to start talking about the liver damage that accompanied the hits my brain had to take). Man, good times!! Stiff reasonably priced drinks, always a decent band playing, a great crowd and if you are lucky you'll even get a shot at the pool table once the cool kids give that poor cue a rest. As a tip, bring a blanket so you'll be comfy while sobering out in your car.
Review Source:If you are looking for a dive bar, this fits the definition for me. Â It was dark, the music was loud and you could find domestic beer in bottles. Just not my type of place. Â That said, it was busy, the service was nice. Â And my friends liked their mixed drinks. Â Overall, not a terrible way to end your night.
Review Source:Eh... not my scene, not my crowd. Â First time I went some girl got drunk and took her top off. It was super crowded too, no place to sit so we left fairly early. I was uncomfortable.
Second time I went in, it wasn't as crowded but the music was really irritating my friend. So we left right away. Can't say I don't try to give second chances...
So... not batting high averages with me. 2 out of 2 fails.
My overall impression, it's dirty and divey but not in the,hey I need to go back here way. Â There are soooo many better places to spend time and money nearby so maybe its awesome for some, but not top on my list. Its just eh.
Yeah so Easter 2013 was pretty cool, until I heard from the rumor mill that Rocket From the Crypt was playing a secret reunion show at Bar Pink THAT NIGHT at 6:30pm!! No cover! Best end to Easter ever. See my earlier review about how they book good bands here, and yes, I am bragging about being right about that. Rocket From the Crypt - no cover - 80 minute set  - first live gig since 2005, and it was at Bar Pink. 'Nuff said...
From my 11/16/2011 review:
Attention - you are not in PB or the Gaslamp, please go to True North (aka Douche North) if that is your vibe - carry on.
That said, go for the music, they book some great bands here with all kinds of styles. Â Tonight I am going to see Brawley, you have to check them out.
They have a full bar, and a good beer selection.  If you ever saw the old place that was here (Dino's) you will know how much went into the remodel.  Lastly, I have never had a problem with service.  Of course, I do say  please and thank you, make eye contact, refrain from waving cash around like I am Lil' Wayne 'bout to make it rain, and tip.  I can tell you from experience that rude service is begotten by rude attitudes, and some hipster-douches don't seem to get that.  I think their funny hats might be too tight and cut off the blood to their brains?
So if you don't like the vibe, please stay away and leave more room for those of us that love Bar Pink and the music they bring to North Park that we could not get before.
I give you a 4.5
Cheap drinks. good friends, live music, best location, no cover, pool tables , dancing. Cleanish bathrooms, nice bartenders (even though you might have to wait a while before getting served) You might run into that group of people you never wanted to see again but its worth it. CHASE AND BANK OF AMERICA CLOSE BY BUT BRING SOME CASH!!!
What's not to love about Bar Pink? Okay, well I don't love the line when there is one.
But this is what I do like:
1. Cheap drinks. Sure, it's cash only, but $2 Tecates and $3 Well drinks all day err' day?? AND when I first moved here from DTLA I ordered two Jamesons and it was only $12. I thought that price was for one and I gave the bartender $26 and walked away. (yeah, dumb mistake.) The blonde grabbed my attention that I had paid too much when I returned later for the next round, and she didn't need to do that. (Not that I enjoy paying that much, but I was used to it, so she could have kept it and it would have made no difference.) Obviously I appreciate her and the establishment a little more for not taking advantage of my ignorance.
2. The eclectic music here. Their calendar is quite diverse and you have anything from live bands to DJs playing all different genres. (Bring back the Turn Up Trap night w/ Beatnick/Artistic/MrMention/Definition please!)
3. The crowd is a mixed bag, and I like that.
4. This may seem silly, but I've also never had to wait to use the bathroom. This is important though!
5. Pool tables! And they're not in the way. They're perfectly tucked in the back separate from the dance floor.
6. Arcade games! I'm a nerd for that shit.
7. Oh and NO COVER. Duh! That's like the best part!
Bar pink has become such a trendy spot from what it use to be. Â Well, at least you can still get $2 tecates/PBR.... Pink will get packed quickly as its compact space cannot hold much. Â They have a small stage area and psychedelic lighting if you are the trippin kind. Â Usually no cover and bartender could be nicer. Â Good stop in the North Park bar scene.
Review Source:I first went here when it was called Bar Pink Elephant. Â I liked the setup and design of it, it didn't look like a dive like every other small bar with bands. Â My boyfriend's band has played here several times and I had fun then. The decor is still nice and they make good martinis (a MUST), but expensive.
However, a few Friday nights ago I stopped by Bar Pink with my friend Jenny. There were 2 bouncers at the door. Â They were EXTREMELY rude and seemed to think they were manning the door at Studio 54 or something. Â I don't think there was a band inside either. Â Maybe they didn't think we were dressed right or weren't cute enough (if so they have no taste!) or too old, but they obviously didn't like us. Â First they wanted IDs, but then one bouncer put his arm across the door and didn't say why. Â Then he asked for $17.00 each to get in!! I said who is in there, anyway?? And one dude said "Well, my cousin, and my friend Jeremy..." I said no- is there a BAND? and I got no answer, so I said "ok, very funny", and when we started to walk in, they blocked the door again. I said "Are you serious?" No answer. While I was still trying to figure out if they were joking, a few PB-looking people came up to the bouncer in the chair and he let them right in!! No cover, no hassle. Â I looked inside and the place was packed with people just standing around. Â I said FORGET IT, and we left. I wouldn't go here again unless it was to support a friend's band and I got in free. Â I have told everyone about my experience and will continue to do so. Â There is no excuse for this treatment. We were not drinking and were not rude. Â They need to hire somne different bouncers. I wish I had yelped immediately afterward so I could have gotten them in trouble. This incident happened on Friday, January 11, 2013.
Cheap drinks, good bands and DJ's who play 80's hip hop. Â They're also one of the few bars that have Abita on tap for when I'm jonesing for Louisiana beer. Â I highly recommend the Flirtini. Â Vodka, champagne and pineapple juice, basically all 3 of my main food groups covered in one glass.
I will admit the bar service can be spotty at times and different friends have been charged different prices for the exact same order. Â However, the waitresses are great. Â I've never had a bad one here.
The only bad thing about Bar Pink is the bathroom. Â Squat, never sit. Â If you carry rubber gloves and Purell in your purse, use them or drink enough Cuervo to kill the germs from the inside out.
Another place I had been to before but it was PACKED last Friday night. We were able to squish into a booth though which was great. The live band was eh and I wished the DJ had come back on. Our waitress was awesome though. She saw us just standing looking pitiful without a drink and took our order and brought it to us right there in the middle of the floor before we could grab a seat. No pushing up to the bar! PS: They only except CASH!
Review Source:$2 Tecate cans, Plenty of opportunities to get down on the dance floor like DJ Artistic and Styletones, never a cover, always a reasonable line if any. Â Â
If you think the service sux its probably because you belong next door at True North and are being put in your place. Â
2 pool tables in the back, and large booths lining the walls. Â Some of the booths smell kinda funky and remind me of the old Scum-laris office, but I guess thats part of being the only bar that still captures the true essence of North Park.
I remember when Bar Pink used to be Pink Elephant.
Why did they change the name? I like Pink Elephant better, they kept the pink elephant in the logo?
All small-talk aside for a lady that is not too fond of the color pink this place is pretty dope. I always come here during the off-hours when it's really dead and there are only few other alcoholics, I mean, patrons, who enjoy the devil's water not just on weekends but also during a Tuesday night.
They got stage/dance floor space, pool table, pink themed drinks (that I have yet to try) and a decent draught beer selection.
I am taking away one star because it's cash only and I am a total plastic lady.
But I will take hitting up the ATM before and keeping it nice, mellow chill over the craziness of its neighbors.
Its a nice, cheap, hipster, cash only spot...a good place for the normal north park kids to hang out without having to run into the overly made up chicks and meatheads at True North. Â Plus if I step on someones shoes here, I dont have to worry about confrontation and being harassed by a felon. Â Love the bands that swing by. Â And 2 dollar Tecates are the only times i move away from my craft beer
Review Source:Talk about dive bar heaven! Let me set the scene for you: It's raining, a few days before Christmas; Midday, midweek. Fall finals are officially completed and it's the start of winter break. While all of the world is hard at work I'm drinking whiskey cocktails in a tacky, dank hole in the wall watching SNL reruns. This place is an oasis. I'm in love.
Cash only.
I do not like giving poor reviews but my experience at Bar Pink was not a very good one. Drinks were not good. And service was unacceptable. Â
The whiskey old fashioned that was served as my first drink was far below par. I was very disappointed since that drink is incredibly standard and any respectable bar should execute them well.
Throughout the rest of the night, it was virtually impossible to get any attention from the bartenders. Honestly, I am very patient and try and be understanding of those in high stress service jobs but the near absence of courtesy and class was reprehensible on the night I visited Bar Pink. All the bar tenders seemed to have a permanent scowl on their faces. Several times, I asked "excuse me", raised my hand, or otherwise attempted to be acknowledged as a breathing human being - each time, I was ignored. Â Â
I sincerely hope that my experience is an outlier, and poor customer service like I experienced will not be repeated towards any other unlucky patron.
To the people who called it  "weird," no shit, it's a bar in North Park. It's pretty "hipster" but I think it's refreshing. I really like the mix of 80's and today music. The DJ played Die Antwood, hell yeah.
Yeah, the "cash only" thing is slightlllyyy annoying but not if you come prepared. And the cheap drinks make up for it.
I like the pink bubbles everywhere and you can sit at a table to rest your feet! It's also in a pretty good location!
Interesting mix of people for sure I have some pretty good conversations there.
I say yay
This is definitely a good place for locals. Every time I go there I feel like I am in another decade, everything is so retro and the ambiance is pretty hipster. The drink specials are pretty good. I've been told cute guys come here, but every time I go there I'm disappointed lol. Live music is great!
I gave this place 4 stars because it is cash only. I personally don't really carry cash and this is a bit inconvenient for me. I hope they start accepting cards soon.
This is a weird bar dude.
From the decor, to the hiphop throw back 80's fusion music, to the white boys doing some awkward shuffling around their anxious dance partners while avoiding all eye contact and peering around the room.
This place is hipster heaven and PBR galore. Though I've been to worse. Cash only is a major fail especially in 2012. Time to get with the times people.
Other than that the booths are nice to chill in.
the end.
Cash only, small compared to the behemoth a couple of doors down (cough, true north, cough!), great bartender, good drinks, inexpensive...oh and did I mention fun. Â
I've been here a couple of times and it's never disappointing... just don't forget your cash!
I repeat, don't forget cash!
$2 Tecate with complimentary lime wedge. Â
Funny to see kids who weren't even born yet dance to 80s music. Â Was one of the few in there who danced to those songs the first time they came out! Â
Anyway, yes a dive. Â Black walls covered with pink bubbles. Â Glad my phone didn't fall on the floor because it would have had to be majorly decontaminated. Â
Fun place. Â Good crowd. Â Cheap.
I still love Bar Pink, I really do. Tiki Tuesdays are a blast and they have great music in here. Â Only negative I can say is that walking in there when they had the lights on.. was an eye opener. This place is in need of repair and upgrades. The women's bathroom is literally falling apart. I hope they make a lot of money so that they could do a remodel.
They now have an awesome craft beer collect. I love the Abita Amber and they have it on draft right now!
This bar was AWESOME!!! The perfect little dive bar! We came here for a friends birthday on a saturday night and as soon as we walked in we knew we were going to have a blast. It's roomy but had a lot of people. Lots of cute guys! The atmosphere was really laid back and there was a nice mix of fun people. The drinks were cheap and strong and the bartenders were great. Quick and polite. Even though there were a lot of people, I didn't have to wait long to get my drink.
We then proceeded to go play some pool which was fun. When one of our friends got stumble around drunk they kindly let her know she had to leave which was totally understandable. She was really wasted!!! Other than that we had a blast and I would love to go back the next time we are in town!!!
Daaaaang! After 2 very horrible experiences here I was dreading tagging along with a group of people when they wanted to go last night.
But, 3rd time's a charm, right? NOPE. I swear to god it's effing IMPOSSIBLE to get a drink here. I literally have NEVER gotten a drink here. Â The bar tenders have no sense of urgency and do NOT pay attention to who has been waiting and for how long. There are two lady bar tenders there in particular who I have seen each twice who look perma-pissed and wear an expression of hatred for their job.
The crowd is usually alright, music is good. I hope that I never, ever get dragged here again. Way to kill a perfectly fun night.
For a small venue I was surprised that there was so much to do here.
I was first intrigued by this place because I heard interesting live music being performed in this location. The band that was playing was totally eclectic and definitely matched the ambiance of the place: quirky, hip, wacky.
There is a pinball machine and a pool room where the color of the pool tables are pink, which I thought was extremely funny. Everything here was PINK. I literally felt that I was in an episode of the pink panther or something.
The drinks were cheap and the service great. They make an excellent Tom Collins here! Definitely will check this place out again.
The place holds a special place in my heart because I stumbled in here on my 21st birthday...but overall it's nothing special and verges on a dive kinda place.
The place is kind of dark (which would probably benefit some people, lol) but I mostly like to see who I'm talking to. Â The benefits are that the drinks are cheap and strong..but I've definitely experienced better.
The pinball game is fun, and you can get three games for 4 quarters.  I went to the carwash by my apt and got $20 worth of quarters before going to the Matt Skiba show here last week.  My old man was like "$20?" and I was like "Yes, we will need $10 each."  Once my fistfull of quarters was gone I was wishing I had brought more, so  next time I'm getting $20 each.
The drinks are cheap and strong. Â I was shocked to see how badly my pinball skills were affected by just one of their Squirt/tequila cocktails, but it was worth it. Â That thing was good though, so worth it.
Cash only, so come prepared.
I love Bar Pink!
The atmosphere is so fun and on a Monday night there was plenty of seating options and was perfect for catching up with an old friend. The bar tenders are polite although my gin and tonic could have used a little work to it so minus a star for that. However, their live music that comes through here is pretty fantastic and makes for a great end to an evening out to kick back and enjoy the sounds of the jazz band that was playing on that particular night.
They are cash only so plan accordingly or hit up their ATM inside.
2 stars as a drinking establishment
3.5 stars to see live bands
my general consensus after a few visits here is: the bartenders really don't give a damn. inefficient and careless. if you come when the bar is full--as it always seems to be--prepare to wait a while to be acknowledged. then when acknowledged, they will most likely retain the bare minimum information you supplied to them to serve a drink and get paid.
"do you have sweet tea vodka?" - i inquire
(nods)
"can i get sweet tea vodka, lemonade, and sprite?"
(nods again...quickly throws drink down)
...wtf is this it tastes disgusting and like pure tea concentrate.
(gets chicks attention again)
"um, this just tastes like tea, can you put it in a tall glass with more sprite...i mean, did you put any in?"
she answered no and follows orders...until i realize there was no lemonade in it either. all she heard was sweet tea vodka and served that to me straight up. i finally get a male bartenders attention to remake the drink. but even then i felt like a fly on the wall being swatted away to move on with the next bothersome customer.
-this exchange didnt even happen on a very busy night btw.
on top of all that, its a cash only bar. last i checked i wasn't in OB so what gives? the atm machine charges a lot too ($3 or $4, cant remember).
in terms of seeing bands play here...my main reason for most visits...there is no cover, the sound quality is pretty damn good for the place being as small as it is, and there is a good amount of standing/dancing around the band stage.
theres also about 5 large semi circle booths, lots of bar stools, and pool tables in the back room. gets packed on the weekend. i come to support friends in bands --but otherwise, there are tons of other (better) bars in the area.
I really like this place for quality dance action.
I love how anyone can get up on the stage area and get sexy with it. Â It's so much fun dancing around by the DJ booth. Â
I approve of the music they play. Â It's fun and quirky - perfect for goofy dancing up in here. Â
The pinball machine is my BFF!!!
