We found this little gem by chance, and what a great surprise. The music was great, and the food was amazing. Â I had a pulled pork sandwich and was blown away, it was delicious. For some reason I tried one of the two BBQ sauces that came with my meal, and was not disappointed. I then tried a bite without sauce and thought I had found a little piece of heaven. I highly recommend the pulled pork sandwich. I will be returning soon with visions and anticipation of a slab of ribs. If you're in the "Lou" looking for a good time and good food, make BB's a definite on your list.
Review Source:Go to BB's! Â Â This is what I would recommend to anyone visiting St. Louis. My friends and I headed here one evening before a ball game. Â The Bar was open but not kitchen. However kitchen opened soon after we arrived.
The bartender offered suggestions for beer, stating that most were from local breweries. Â He also offered suggestions from the menu. Â We had some catfish, barbeque and more. Â The food was fantastic. Â The place got very crowded. There was one cook in the kitchen, and all service was done by two people, one being the bartender. I know customers who came in after us were waiting a long time. Â The bartender however kept our drinks refreshed as needed.
This is a small and pleasant blues/jazz club that is really cool. The food is good and the music experience the night I went was very authentic. The only downside was that the server (while very friendly) was pretty bad. Their food service was extremely slow and then they screwed up the order. One person in our party didn't get their food until 45 minutes AFTER the rest of the table received theirs. Â Luckily we had planned to stay most of the evening to listen to the music. However, that level of service could easily ruin an evening.
They get packed before a baseball game because it is so close to the ballpark. But as soon as the game starts the place cleared out until the music began. Check their website out and it tells you everything else you need to know.
This place is somewhat hard to get into late at night. Â But we visited before a soccer game at Busch. Â It was barren. Â The service was great. Â They offer a selection of local beers on draft. Â And the art and musical items strewn about are cool. Â A great place to have a beer or a bourbon.
Review Source:My friend and I were heading back to our hotel, and the taxi driver was playing blues on the radio, and I asked him were we could go to find "live" blues, and he suggested BB's. Â The bar and blues were excellent, Â However, Thursday night (when we were there) is apparently not the best night, which kept the place from five stars.
Review Source:My first experience at BB's was also my last. It was more than disappointing, it was offensive. Â I went for a fundraiser (the 11th annual!) on a beautiful spring day. There were several bands lined up and there was a $10 cover.
I met friends and family who had arrived an hour earlier, and they told me to go get a drink and some dinner on their tab. When I walked up to the bar that was completely empty, it took about five minutes for the bar tender to even look up at me from stocking beer in coolers. I ordered a drink and asked if I should order food from him as well. He hastily poured a glass of wine and told me to "talk to them about food, I'm really busy." Aside from being rude, he gave me zero indication of who "them" referred to. I made my way down the bar to two employees who were at a computer a the end. I asked them if I could order from them. They said I had to be at a table to order. Our group had been at a table for over an hour and had never been approached by a member of the staff. I told the woman about my bad experience with the bar tender, to which she replied "we're really understaffed. I guess I can take your order in a second, I'm busy right now." She also hastily took my order, after informing me that they were out of the first three menu items I tried to order. She continually rolled her eyes and mouthed things under her breath. Â Her attitude was unbelievable. The worst customer service I have ever encountered.
Apparently BB's forgot that they were having a huge fundraiser which had been advertised all over the Internet. Furthermore, the bartenders apparently can't handle a steady crowd without having major attitude.
BB's should really be ashamed.
If you're looking for music and a fun atmosphere, go next door.
Music: 4 - good little space to catch acts on the blues circuit w/ $5 cover.
Food: 3 - The drink selection is good but nothing amazing. Â I was really looking forward to the food as I love creole/cajun cooking and the kitchen is open late (win), but was underwhelmed. Â The gumbo had a clear broth and if you hadn't told me it was gumbo, I would've sworn it was just vegetable soup/stew with bell peppers and a few pieces of flavorless sausage and shrimp. Â The menu boasts of Louisiana File' gumbo. Â That's supposed to be reddish-brown and a bit thicker that the Progresso Soup rip-off they served me. Â Heck, I ordered it because I figured they just left an industrial-sized pot of the stuff stewing in the kitchen all day (which I've seen real Cajun cooks do and it's amazing), but no, I was sorely disappointed. Â The cornbread that came with it was good as were the appetizers.
Service: Â 1.5 - Our server was nice. Â However, the place was terribly understaffed. Â Finding a bartender proved almost impossible. Â It took over an hour to order and get our food (soups and sandwiches, mind you). Â It looked like they had one guy working the entire floor. Â Standing at the bar with one's wallet out was a ticket to being ignored. Â God help us if we wanted more than one round of drinks. Â Unemployment is still high and finding a bartender/waiter to work for low wage/tips is easy, so there's really no excuse for this.
$5 Cover for awesome music! Â No complaint there. Service was good. I ordered the Catfish Po Boy.. when it came out it seemed to be more of just a plain Catfish sandwich, but WOW was it awesome. Great flavor, I'll be back again just for that. The hush puppies have quite a kick so beware. Restrooms were clean.
Review Source:Stumbled across this place late at night in St. Louis. It's a great live music spot with top-quality acts, a big stage and great acoustics.
As for food, my friend and I both chose a big tasty catfish po-boy with spicy hushpuppies.
The food, drinks and music all blended together perfectly and we had a great time.
There's also a big parking lot across the street.
If I was just rating this on the music, it would be 5-star all the way. Â I love that they support local musicians with great St Louis style blues, jazz, rock, etc. Â I have seen countless great shows here. Â
Walking in, you see right away that the place needs a deep clean. Â I know it's old architecture on top of ancient plumbing just a stone's throw from the river, but seeing a cockroach in a place that serves food is still icky. Â The poor guy was on his back in the ladies room for hours before I finally tossed him in the toilet. Â
We had the jackson salad, which was good, not great. Â I think a little pricey at $8+ for what you get. Â Previous trips I have gotten the tomato/olive/feta salad, which is delicious and loaded with goodies. Â We also split an order of wings. Â Also good but nothing special. Â
They have Wheach on tap, which rocks. Â Fast refills and good service at the bar. Â When we moved to a table to see the show, there was just a busser and no wait staff, so we had to go up the bar every time. Â Kind of a hassle for a big group. Â All the tables were full as well, so having a server would have been justified, especially since they serve food all night. Â Even the bussing wasn't great, with 6-8 glasses stacked on our table at any time (or maybe we were drinking too much...hmmm). Â
This is such a great location for music, pre & post Cards games, and for showing off downtown to visitors, so I will always be back. Â Next time, likely just music and drinks.
My sister and I were looking for some local food near the arch. Â This place was close; a very short walk from Busch Stadium. Â Unfortunately, we were too early to catch the live music, but the food and atmosphere was fantastic. Â According to their menu, the building used to be a burlesque house, so clearly very old with a lot of history. Â
Angry hush puppies were really good, but could have been hotter. Â Sweet potato fries were awesome. Â Corn chowder was missing a little something, but still tasted pretty good. Â Gumbo was very tasty.
Overall great experience for two travelers! Â Next time I'm in St. Louis I'll be back here!
Nice little spot to catch some blues and food. Â Although, I have to say that with all the hype around the sweet potato fries, they were only ok, as they were more of the "natural cut" rather than the pappy's coat them with brown sugar and deliciousness. Â The sauce on them helped a lot.
$1.50 PBR on Wednesday, try to get the pecan pie, it's a flavor bomb for your mouth.
Jazzed indeed! Â Got to listen to some SERIOUS jazz on this night of all nights. Got lucky for sure! Â They had some twin saxophones playing with drums and electric piano mixed in. Â Heard me some Dexter Gordon tunes, as well as a little Take 5 going on there..
Atmosphere is really what you should expect in a place like this, a little noisy, a little busy, a little annoying. And yes folks, that does include the service which may/may not be good depending on crowd and control of it. This was a fine, warm night and the sound was perfect. We went upstairs because it was so crowded below, and that looked like the best kept secret because we had a great view from above. I might have just blown that now, but nonetheless, it was cozy up there and you just head to the bartender and he will take care of you, and get you that cold drink.
I am seriously unlucky. I'm in town for a few days and all I want to do is hear a good Blues band. So I go to the place that I heard has amazing Blues bands...except on the night I went, when a reggae band was there. Sigh.
Nevertheless, the band that night was good, the bartender was friendly. Â The beer selection was good. It was annoying though, when, after ordering a drink, we told the waitress we had a tab and she answered that "her tab was different from the bartender". Seriously? Come on.
I will note that we left Sunday evening about 12 midnight and the place was still pretty empty. Don't know if that had anything to do with the band, but maybe they should stick with the blues!
BBs is the place for blues. The set up is intimate for live music. I like the long bar at the entrance where you can meet all kinds of characters. I came too late to have the full menu as an option but I did try the chips and the chicken fingers. Yum. Going back for the gumbo.
Drink prices are reasonable, the front area in front of the stage has great seating and there is an outdoor patio area for fresh air and conversation. Overall, loved BBs and I will be back often.
So my cousin Mikey called me yesterday telling me he popped into Blue City Deli for lunch and heard this unreal Blues Band. He hears they are going to be playing at BB's @ 10pm. I have never been to BB's, but have always heard good things. Its right down the street from Broadway Oyster Bar, which I think is a hidden gem in STL.
(On a side note, I am so sick of going to the same type of bars. It just gets so boring and I am really getting burned out on going out in this city. My buddy and I stopped into Bar Louie in CWE for overpriced drinks and then we had to meet his girl at Big Daddy's on the Landing. I haven't been to the Landing since 2008 and quickly realized why. It almost made me embarrassed to be a St. Louis resident. After buying a couple $6 Budweiser's and after listening to a couple of horrendous songs while watching white trash hit on white trash I practically sprinted out the door)
So we pull up into BB's and the whole vibe is fantastic. $5 cover at the door, bought 2 Budweiser's (for $6 - total - really Landing?) and my buddy somehow scored this killer table right up in the front.
http://www.special20s.co… is the link of the band that played. Wow my cousin wasn't kidding, these guys were unreal. Mikey and his girl met us at our table and Jamison's started flowing. The whole atmosphere was simply electric. These guys finished their first set at 11:45am and rumor has it, they rocked the place till 2:30am. My daughter turned 9 this morning, if not I would have loved to close this place down.
Oh - my cousin ordered a toasted ravioli and his girl ordered sweet potato fries. Ravioli's were average and the sweet potato fries were ice cold when they were brought out. It was 11pm when they came out, so what can you really expect? Its like complaining about the buffet line at a Strip Club.......you're there for the talent and booze.
WIN!
I went here Saturday night with my uncle. He had just finished working a shift at the Pageant and we were both hungry, so we wanted to go somewhere we could grab a drink and get some decent eats with it being so late.
For some reason I expected this place to be gritty and dark. It's not. It kind of reminds me of Blueberry Hill, with the wooden detailing around the place and the music memorabilia, but not so commercial. It's well-lit, clean, and inviting.
The service was good, drinks were drinks...all fine...my uncle suggested the Muffaletta and sweet potato fries. WIIIIIINNNNN!!!! Two days later and I am still having dreams about this food.
The sweet potato fries...someone on here complained that they are "limp" but I kinda like my fries that way. They were hot and delicious and that sauce gave the sweet fries the perfectly balanced spicy kick. Excuse me...I am salivating.
The Muffaletta was meaty melty hot wonderful goodness on soft fluffy warm bun and gtoqru8ihgorquehgowihb
I actually didn't listen much to the music (we were back at the bar) but I'm sure that would only add to the awesome experience. I will be back.
We had a great date here. There was good music and good food and good drinks. My only regret was not getting there early enough to get a table. Those people that did held on to them. We sat at the bar and got great service.
I take that back, I have two regrets: the cosmo that put me over my typical tolerance of alcohol. big mistake.
One of my favorites anywhere in the U.S. Â Real food cooked properly. Â i love the place so much because the combo of fodd & atmosphere. Â Great old building & great music.
Sweet potato fries a must as are the soups that are made fresh daily. Â Everything I have had here has been good.
Oh BB!! Blues - bring it on!! Excellent, but including soup in the name?? Â I thought it was strange until I feasted on a mouthwatering seafood chowder.
We saw the BelAirs here! Â Wowie. Â They rocked. Â
Also saw others that made me want to sip scotch & tap.
Oh MEAN MEAN MEAN drinks are made here - be warned! A handful of very late nights started @BB's. ;)
Sitting upstairs is favorable if you're heading there for the food & would like to talk not yell. Downstairs gets loud but the energy is buzzing ...
Eclectic crowd, not a super young college crowd (*no offense, McGurks, I still appreciate you) reasonably priced drinks, and DAMN good blues, mean martinis, shotty wine selection but it's not a place for wine so they still get 5. Â
I ended up at BB's about half a dozen times and became a huge fan of BBs. Actually, many places in Soulard spoke to my soul... I'd probably live in Soulard ... if only I could afford multiple homes. :)
Go elsewhere if you can.
Service was horrible. Up to 20 minutes to get another beer... even if you walk up to the nearly empty bar with your glass and ask for one. It took 25 minutes to get our check (yes, I timed it with a stopwatch app).
There's a $5 cover charge, but if yo come early, they don't have the sign up or tell you. It just shows up on your bill without explanation. They completely fubar'ed our bill and managed to overcharge every member of our party by at least 2x. Basically, they padded every person's credit card charge with a healthy 30% tip and then managed to double and triple charge everyone for the full price of the check.
The first band was excellent, featuring a legendary blues singer whose name escapes me at the moment (he has his picture on the wall). It was followed up by the feature band who played a bunch of golden oldies and almost no blues or jazz. On top of that, they weren't good. If you want to hear Jazz/Blues, call ahead to find out who is playing that night. Don't leave it to chance.
The food was ok, though the serving sizes were not at all normalized. I got catfish and it was barely a children's helping (about the size of 2 credit cards, including the head). The table next to me got a catfish that was nearly 3x bigger--but it was the same price and menu item.
The best part was one of the patrons who was clearly someone "important", either a co-owner, jazz-legend, or friend of the manager, was sitting in the dining area chain smoking, blowing his smoke at every table with tourists. His table was the only one with an ash-tray so it was clear that he was getting special treatment. If you care more about special treatment for your buddies than for your customers dining experience, then get out of the hospitality business.
Great Music!
BUT we wanted food too. hehe.
Do not expect good service, it will not come. They are not impressed that you have an empty glass nor that you have been waiting for 5 minutes or even 10. They will get there when they can. Our waiter seemed to be the manager. He was very polite and got our order right but he was covering the whole place with one other waiter.
The food was average at best.
There is a Cajun/Oysters place not more then a block away that is SO much better so I would come here for the music and a couple drinks and then go eat or reverse that. :)
Go for the Music but leave because the food won't come anyways.
It is VERY VERY VERY VERY loud so don't expect a conversation. With great music does it matter? Not really but now you know what to expect.
Succulent! Energetic! These are the words that come to mind when I think of BB's. It was an awesome surprise. Celebrating our fifth wedding anniversary my husband and I decided to go out for a night on the town as our last activity in St Louis. What better than great food and fabulous music. So, we stopped at a restaurant across the street to discover no food. The barkeeper kindly told us about BB's. We were not disappointed.
Unsure of what to order and not an eater of four-legged animals, I wasn't sure what to order. So, I went with the wings. My husband selected a hamburger. While we waited, we listed to some really great music, a couple I will definitely be adding to my faves list.
The wings were crispy, covered in bits of tasty cheese and a tangy barbecue sauce. When I bit into the first one, the juicy tender insides caressed my tongue. I had to share one with my babe. He loved it. I enjoyed not only the wings, but the sweet potato fries. Have you ever had sweet potato fries? Well, you haven't had them until you've tried them with honey. The bartender said that it would knock my socks off. Pretty sure that if I were wearing any, it certainly would have. Oh, my! Delicious. I believe I finished more of them simple because they were so very very good.
The service? The bartender was awesome! He was friendly, had a good sense of humor, and treated us very well. His rhythmic movement back and forth fit the music of the place. His skill in handling customers who were at the bar, seated for a meal, and just enjoying the music was quite admirable. When I asked about a drink menu,he mentioned that they didn't have one but looked on the computer, found a conquerable list to please my palate, and I happily selected one. He even took our picture when he saw us trying to do it on our own, all of this with a warm smile.
And the music? Great! It was entertainment all in one. We left happy and practically danced our way back to the car. Thank you BB's for a very lovely night!
Ahh, B.B's. Home to some of my favorite memories. As well as some of my favorite non-memories, if I'm to believe my friends when they tell me about the antics I got up to last night. (I personally, don't. And the goat doesn't, either.)
Food - Try the sweet-potato fries, which are a meal unto themselves, given the gracious quantity they present you with. Or the shrimp po-boy; the house made remoulade is awesome sauce. Literally. Of course, if you're feeling more ambitious, any of the tantalizing specials they offer on a nightly basis are fair game. I dare you to try one and not like it. They also have some really good vegetarian options, for the meatless.
Service - The bartenders are phenomenal. Rob, Sharon, Nick and Griffin are all personable, knowledgeable and most importantly, quick. This is important when you're being jostled about at the bar 10 minutes after last call and you want to squeeze in one last libation before heading to the East Side.
Atmosphere - Warm woods surround the bar. Flattering lighting. Pictures of blues and jazz legends grace the walls. The whole space just screams, "Come in and get toasty and/or toasted!" On weeknights, you'll usually find a band of regulars enjoying the music. Come Friday and Saturday night, a decidedly younger, more party-hearty crowd comes in, especially after the 1:30 bars close.
Music - The real reason people flock to B.B.'s. On a given night, you'll find a myriad of bands bringing down the house with authentic bluesy, jazzy, yummy goodness. No matter who they are, rest assured - they'll be good. More often than not, they'll be legendary. The staff (and owner, Mark O'Shaughnessy) wouldn't have it any other way. The shows are creative and dynamic, and always a surprise. It's incredibly common to see musicians show up, instruments in tow, and hop up on stage to play with their buddies for an impromptu jam session.
It's the energy of the place, really. I don't know of any other bar where you can find a laid-back vibe paired with such a up atmosphere. The juxtaposition makes it great.
During baseball season, your venue of choice post-game can make or break your night. If you are in the mood for a little Cajun flavor and some amazing Jazz, look no further than BB's.
BB's is located 3 blocks form the stadium, easily in walking distance for even the most inebriated of attendees. They are also one of the few bars in the area that stay open to the much loved 3AM spot.
Food-wise, the Sweet Potato Fries are the app of choice at BB's, hands-down. The menu is pretty standard sandwiches and burgers, with some awesome Cajun twists. They even have a beans and rice section! My fav would have to be the gumbo. It has the right amount of spices to taste great, but not make you sweat your ass off. Plus...cornbread, 'nuff said!
With Mardi Gras season quickly approaching, the Soulard district will be packed to the brim with thirsty socialites. BB's will be right on the outskirt of this madness, so readily accessible for those entering or exiting the fray. Though beer remains the beverage of choice for most during these festivities, the Hurricane comes in a close second. That is the drink I roll with, as the dollar to alcohol content ratio seems to be highly in it's favor. BB's serves them up with the best of them. They also have an amazing Hurricane shot which is perfect to spread a little joy all year-round.
If you do find yourself at BB's during the weekend, you may be lucky enough to catch one of the greatest, and longest lasting, Â blues bands in St. Louis, the Soulard Blues Band. These guys bounce between venues in the Soulard scene, hitting BB's only once or twice a month. They set the mood for BB's perfectly, belting out amazing tunes all night long. Â Watching them perform is a blast. Their level of energy is so intense that even would make Miles Davis proud!
All in all, BB's is the epitome of the St. Louis Jazz and Blues scene that this city is known for. They have kept up with the times and make for an unforgettable night, any day of the week.
BB's is a great place to listen to music or just sit in the front and hang out. Â While the bar is not seperated between the front and back, it seems like two seperate bars. Â The back has lots of tables with people listening to whatever group is on stage playing while the front looks like your average sports bar.
There is a cover charge but it is only a few bucks. Â And drinks/food aren't badly priced.
B.B.'s Jazz, Blues and Soups - legendary in this town.
The building was constructed in the mid-1800's and it has been used for many things including a hotel and a brothel. Â While dining on really good food, and watching amazing blues bands (with occasional jazz acts) in a quaint setting, Â you can turn to your date and sound very educated when you start a conversation with, "So, do you know what women used to do in this place?" Â A little wink, a small nudge, you'll be in there, buddy...
I do want to say I used to work here a few years back so I don't know if this makes me biased for a review. However, the fact that I love the place AND worked there must count for something!
The food - So many times I hear "surprisingly good". Â I'm not exactly sure why this is a surprising fact except maybe that the menu is very extensive and this isn't a "bar food" kinda place. Â You can get a steak cooked to order with fresh vegetables and a baked potato and have sweet potato pie for desert (maybe bring up the venue's torrid past over desert, gentlemen. Â I don't suggest leading with the fine piece of trivia I have given you).
The staff - this is where I am biased the most. Â They are the best! Â Of course I became friends with them during my time there however the same people are there - and were for years before I ever worked at B.B.'s . Â And that, my fellow Yelpers, is a huge sign in the bar industry. Â The staff are very loyal and the customer service is great.
The music: Amazing. Â I've seen many, many bands and I have been to many, many venues and B.B.'s works extremely hard to bring the best local talent and national touring acts to their stage. Â The booking manager is a genius when it comes to hiring acts and you can see live music seven nights a week.
Whenever anyone asks me what they should do for a night out, I always suggest B.B.'s. Â Conveniently located downtown (200 yards south of the stadium), open until three am, great food, amazing employees and some of the best music in St. Louis.
Never ate here but each time I was here, the music rocked. One distinct memory was going here with my dad when I was 20. Getting beer and not being ID'd (assuming because I was with the parental unit). Nice father-son bonding experience.
If you're in St. Louis, you gotta check this place out, it is great. Definite highlight of the city.
WOW. Â I SOOOO wish I could give this place 6 stars. Â Or 7. Â It was definitely the highlight of my recent work trip to St. Louis. Â
It was the night before my departure from the city and I still hadn't checked off 2 of the very important "to-do" off my list... see the arch and take in some local tunes. Â After the necessary corporate dinner at Kreis's, everyone else was in a food coma and bee-lining it back to the hotel. Â Thankfully I was able to get the one non-drinker in the group to come, and he's never made a better decision. Â Got a great view of the lit-up arch on the way (and on the way back when we made a wrong turn and approached it from across the bridge... also recommended)
Got to the club and was hit by instagrin... The band on stage was GREAT! Â They were the Bruce Katz band... DEFINITELY check them out if they're at a venue near you. Â They had this great Jazz/Blues mix that was sometimes classic and sometimes funk-instilled. Â All the musicians were incredible. Â Not a ton of room to dance but you can make due with what you've got (and I did almost all night). Â The acoustics were also fantastic. Â We stuck around for both sets which ran until about 1ish. Â Service was great all night, good selection of beers on tap and in bottles, and although there was a $10 cover it was SOOO entirely worth it. Â Should probably mention that I didn't have food since we got there pretty late, so I can't really comment on that. Â Definitely stop by if you're in town!!!
This place will change your life. It most definitely has changed mine.
The music is phenomenal, the drinks fantastic, and the staff are the most laid back cool group of people I have ever had the pleasure of sharing my evening with. Thank you BB's for being you!
Also, I love all the improvements to the joint but I do kinda miss the hot tub.
I was in St. Louis on business last week and we ventured out of the hotel to listen to some live music and eat dinner.
For an appetizer, we got the nachos and salsa. The nachos were warm and the salsa had corn (my favorite). I chose the blues burger for my meal; cooked perfectly with their own BBQ sauce on top. The sauce was tangy and sweet and very good.
The band of the night was a 16-piece big band and they were fabulous. We were sitting in the middle of the space and the acoustics were perfect.
I'm going back to St. Louis in the spring, and hopefully we'll be able to come here again. It was fun, cheap, and entertaining; the best things to look for in a bar.
Another recent first time experience. Â
This place is super close to the stadium, I imagine parking is a bitch on game nights. Â I didn't eat, but I did enjoy some great blues music (for the first time in my adult life) for a few hours. Â My waiter was attentive. Â I was able to hold minimal conversation with my date even while the band was playing. Â There was enough intermission for us to have real conversations, but it never seemed like you were waiting for an extended period of time before you received another dose.
If you've never taken the time to see a live jazz or blues band, I highly recommend doing so. Â And while you're at it, make BB's the place.
GREAT place for music. The food is okay, but the real reason for coming here is the great mix of live music on any given night.
It stays open late and the atmosphere is cool. It's a small place, but really has a dive meets lounge sort of feel.
The red beans and rice is a very generous portion and has smoked ham, Cajun peppers and spices, but I found it a bit bland even with all that.
I liked the Louisiana gumbo, though. It really was a hearty mix of peppers, onions, okra, chicken, shrimp, andouille sausage, Cajun spices and file, served with rice and cornbread. I'd go for this over the toasted ravioli any day.
And though the sweet potato fries are something still novel around here, they are usually kind of greasy and limp. Too bad. We need more sweet potato fries in this town!
This bar is located right near the stadium, so parking is terrible on game nights. Â
We go for the music, but the food is FANTASTIC! Â I had the salmon special last time and it was some of the best that I've had. Â The sweet potato fries are really good too.
Our waitress was really hustling that night, and drinks were a little slow, but with the great music we didn't mind a bit.
Tight seating and crowded, loud and smoky....yep, it's a Blues bar. Â We loved it!
Loved it, though seems a bit touristy and downtown. But the food, music, staff, and ambiance were all great.
We took it slowly, since we were both killing time there and hoping to get in on the music, ordering one thing at a time, which our server was completely fine with. And he was really friendly. For starters, my friend had to get the hush puppies, which come in five with a tasty cocktail sauce (which vegetarians rarely get to enjoy), and I tell you, it tasted like family. That's all I could think as I ate it up It was like eating family. Not in a cannibalistic way, but I don't know how else to describe it.
Next, we went for the vegetarian rice and black beans, which were well cooked, tasty, and decent, as my friend downed another Schlafly. Giving time between course, we finally split a full appetizer order (and it is a FULL order) of sweet potato fries, which comes with a great sauce and is as good with the gray poupon stationed at every table.
We closed out with a pair of the day's special, 'Hurricane shots', which were no good but better than expected. But I would have really gone for a shot special more along the lines of whiskey, my favorite drink pairing with the Blues.
Another criticism, there were five amazing soup options, but our understand was that all but the tomato bisque were chicken or beef-stock based, and for a place with soup in the title and a gracious respect for vegetarian appetites, it was a little sad we had to miss out.
The music finally came on, and it was a four-piece band in red and black, playing some blues tunes and "oye como va", until a lead singer and two back-up vocalists joined for some Al Green and other classics. We had to leave, but for a time, each song made us stay a little longer.
And with a nice vegetarian selection on the menu, I'll certainly be back next time I'm on that side of the Mississippi.
