I have made a discovery about myself during my pursuit to Yelp about the things that make Denver so great: I am just not a nightclub kind of guy anymore. Dive bars? fuck Yes, please. Good, creative restaurants? Absolutely. Anywhere where I can get excellent customer service and a good story to take with me? Sign me up. But nightclubs? Just not my thing.
But on that note, Beta is a good example of what so many dancey clubs try hard to be. It's big (like three floors if take into account all the weird levels in this place). There are lots of bars. The music is loud. There is a coat check. And the big booths offer optimum people watching space. The dancers are sexy little things and there is a plethora of good looking folks sweating and dancing all over each other. But they also do a bunch of things that didn't make me feel so thrilled, either.
Drinks are EXPENSIVE. Crazy expensive. It gets crazy crowded if a national act hits the stage...(like nuts to butts crowded). There is a smaller room upstairs where people were dancing, but I wasn't feeling the music. And the bathrooms. Fucking gross and packed.
Well, I tried this place maybe a dozen times because I love me some house music and to be honest this place is amazing to see some of these acts.
But nowadays it just does not take. With that being said, look for me at a dive bar down the street, or a reasonably priced microbrewery with a beer in each hand, anxiously anticipating hearing some song that doesn't make me want to hurl due to the brain hemorrhaging bass and the lasers shooting into my eyeballs. Because there are many things I love about this city. Big giant nightclubs just are not one of them anymore.
Cheers
I typically do not frequent a bar/club if there is a cover charge. Â I personally feel like if the bar/club is charging me to get in, it is forcing me to assume there are a bunch of tools inside... I will spend enough money that you do not need to charge me. Â Additional, I typically do not frequent bars/clubs that are not 21 & up... Â Yes, this place is 18+. No, you do not notice it. Â
Soo...
For the people bashing this place because of the "crowd" or lack of "age restriction", allow me to set the story straight: Â think of Beta as a Music Venue. Â How many concerts have you attended that required you to be 21 years old? Â
For the people bashing this place because of the "cover", allow me to set the story straight: Â think of Beta as a Music Venue. Â How many concerts have you attended that didn't require you to buy a ticket? Â
I am from St. Louis - and in comparison, Beta does not have near as many druggies or hoochie mamas (or crime!). Â I have lived in Dubai - and in comparison, Beta doesn't offer the cool ass couches you can dance on or sit, but the system is just as loud and the DJs just as great. Â I spent my 21st Birthday in Vegas - and in comparison, Beta's dresscode is not enforced bringing out the most good looking people in the world, but hey, that's not always a bad thing when all you want to do is party and dance and party more and dance harder, is it? Â
This two-level nightclub doesn't overcharge for drinks, is never TOO crowded, and the top floor mini club is perfect for a quick switch-up! Â The music has yet to disappoint me! Â TIP: Â if you go earlier than 11pm (on most Saturday nights), you will get out of paying the 21+ cover. Â Having said that, the party truly doesn't start until 11:45pm - midnight...
Lastly, there is nowhere to sit. Â Wear comfortable shoes OR get bottle service.
WARNING IF YOU ARE BLACK DON'T COME HERE!!! If you like HIP HOP. Do not come here! One thing about Colorado, white people to stick to there own, for the most part. If you like white guys, that dress like they're black, with their hats cocked to left, this is the place to go. The only thing is they don't play black people music. They play that gay ass dubstep music. You have to be on some serious drugs, to enjoy that type of music. I swear I heard the same song, playing for 50 minutes. This is one of the worst clubs, I have ever been to. IF YOU ARE BLACK DON'T COME HERE!!!
Review Source:Friend and I were here visiting and decided to check out the nightlife. "Best Club in the Country" as voted by Rolling Stone? Sounded promising and so we decided to check it out.
To be perfectly frank, it isn't as spacious as some people make it out to be. Walk into a shrunken Terminal Five, complete with a glowing screen behind the DJ. We ended up in the room we like to call "the dubby room". AWESOME trap, hip hop, dub step mixed into one music, the DJ was very attuned to the crowd and catered his playlist accordingly.
Two things drag this place down. 1. The rude chicks working the front. My friend and I wanted to document our little foray into the Denver nightlife. We went to the photobooth, which promptly ate our money. My friend and I went to the front to try to get our money back. The two chicks apparently called the manager, we're waiting there for 15 minutes, no manager, averted eyes, as if they were expecting us to walk away out of impatience. Fine, it was only $5 but not to be entirely righteous, it was about the principle. When we inquired again, we were met with a "our manager has things better to do than refund your $5". RUDE, poor customer service, and thanks for the great impression of Denver. 2. The crowd is whack as hell, you have people who range from 18 to 45, stage dancers who lack any energy, people in a mix of crop tops, jeans and sneakers, to formal wear. Weird crowd, weird vibe, but hey I guess you get points for inclusion?
Based on music alone, 5 stars, it really is amazing. Coupled with the rude girls and whack crowd, down to a 2. Not sure how this spot beat out XS and Liv.
As an experienced clubber that has been to nightclubs in Dallas, Austin, Chicago and Detroit, I can tell you Beta is the most supreme nightclub I have ever been to. Â Beta is a hotspot for the world's top performers of EDM (house, techno, trance, etc.). Â Armin Van Buuren, John Digweed, Paul Van Dyk and much much much more are regularly featured here on a weekly basis. Â Beta features the best indoor sound system & lighting I've experienced and you have ability to get right up close to the DJ booth to view your favorite deejay. Â On the bonus side, I've never been dealt with a rude doorman or bartender. Â Highly recommend if you are a techno-head.
Review Source:The DJ was excellent, not playing the usual top 40 remixes. The place was packed, and I went there for the dancing, so I can't say what the bar was like. The light show and the stage was one of the best I've ever seen in a club especially the size of Beta. The sound was pretty good. It might have been the night I was there, but people weren't really dancing, mostly just standing there. I made my way up front and there was some swaying, but that's about it. Cover was $25, which was a bit excessive.
Review Source:Beta is the best club in Denver, and one of the best clubs in North America. The Funktion One sound system is ear-shatteringly awesome, and they are the only place in town with the chill-inducing Kryogenifex Liquid Nitrogen system for covering the dance floor in a thick fog and dropping the temperature by 30 degrees in a matter of seconds. The top-notch talent that comes through here on a monthly basis is worth the price of admission (which is always cheap). My only beef is that drinks are expensive, but hey, when in rome...
Review Source:Hi. Â Beta is a wonderful club. Â Good people, nice layout, great outdoor smoking area. relatively cheap.
On the other hand, I don't know what the fuck people are talking about when they say the sound system is world class, its not even the best in denver. Â Its not even in the top 3 in devner
I'm not trying to be mean, i am seriously confused.  Its not bad, but for the money spent its the worst sound system i've  ever heard. I don't know if its the room or bad sound guy who EQed it to the room wrong, but its downright goofy.
If you guys want, i'll bring a microphone and measure whats coming out of the speakers. Â horrible room modes and the bass is only loud at like 80-100hz, which is laughable. Â Real sound system bass make your skull wobble and makes it hard to breathe if you stand next to the woofers.
I dunno man, nice club, but b- sound. Â -2 stars for way too much hype about this place.
i dunno, Â my bass frame of reference is from love in nyc (uh, not to mention webster hall, williamsburg music hall, Hammerstein ballroom, ect ect). Â Still, norad, cervantes (when the good sound guy is working not the dickheads) have much much better sound.
I would bet 90% of the reviews who say this soundsystem is good are from people younger than 25.
I can start by saying that Beta definitely has their act together.
As a self described audiophile and "audioholic" by my friends, I'm always looking for very organic sound, particularly when played live. Clubs and concerts all start with the sound system, and Beta nailed this aspect.
The sound system is one of the best I've ever heard, and in my mind is second to none. The speakers they use are made by a company in the UK called Funktion One, four of which are installed in Beta. I should mention all Funktion One makes are loudspeakers, and have gained notoriety for being installed all over the world. Ibiza, Australia, Germany, you name it. Most big clubs in the world have a pair of Funktion One's; and they sound as awesome as you'd expect. Beta is the one club I've gone to that doesn't bombard your ears with bass, bass, and more bass. Highs and mids were very crisp, and the Funktion One's sounded awesome!
Beta was also built from the DJ booth out. So, no matter where you are in the club, you will hear the music as clearly as if you were on the dance floor.
If you're too tired on the main floor, you can always chill out in the Beatport Lounge, which has softer music being played each night. They also have a patio to the left of the club where you can relax, mingle, smoke, and talk without shouting at each other.
It loses a star for the cost. Granted, you pay for the name, but $20 was a little steep for my friend and I that went that night. The staff was also very stiff with us the night we attended, and it varies by night.
Overall, Beta is a great venue. If you're a fan of dance music, and your favorite artist is coming to Beta, it's a show you do not want to miss!
Fun fact: When the Funktion One's were first installed and tested, they set off the car alarms in the front parking lot!
Easily one of the best clubs for EDM in the country, as for me personally this is the best one that I've been to so far.
I was very impressed with my visit here. The outside patio area is a great spot to relax and hang out. There are numerous shot girls walking around offering $3 shots which is such a steal. The people I did come across and interact with were very friendly, which is something that I wasn't used to having been to other clubs. Both the main and side rooms were very well presented and each had a nice LED wall for some cool visuals. The sound system was also a strong point.
Good music, good drinks, and good crowd makes this a club worth going to. It's just too bad I don't live in Colorado.
DJ Mag is right..this really is the best club in the country.
I have been to many clubs all over this wonderful country and NO ONE can top the sound system here. Simply orgasmic. They have alot of other great things going on too. They take credit card for the cover...really nice considering 99% of places DONT...and there is no credit card minimum at the bar! The drink prices are on par with what you would expect from a club. Compared to alot of other places the prices arent bad (not vegas/chi/miami prices). Â The bartenders do a good job of not keeping you waiting, and are very friendly (not common in clubs). They also make the drinks with a good kick...so its not all sugar water. The size is just right too. Its not megaclub huge...and its not packed like a sardine small. There is also the slightly more chill beatport lounge upstairs. Very fun.
I guess the only real downfall here is that they allow people under 21 in...I have been quite a few times now and it hasnt been an annoyance or problem (surprisingly).
This place was sweet when I went! Definitely one of the better (and more popular) clubs in Denver. Â I, however, made the mistake of going on one of their Bassic Fridays, so of course some forgettable DJ was spinning that dubstep crap on the main floor downstairs. Â At first I was really disappointed, but my friend and I decided to go to the Beatport Lounge upstairs in the back and that's where we found the REAL dance mixes. Â The crowd up there seemed better and more friendly, but it was pretty good in the club overall.
The bouncers, bartenders, and staff were all very polite and attentive. Â As for the layout, not too many complaints. Â Being a new club, everything looks new and current, and the decor is nice and upscale. Â Downstairs contains a main dance floor with a couple table areas on each side of it. Â Upstairs, much of the would-be floor is cut away to allow guests to look onto the floor below. Â One whole side, with a bar and more VIP tables, is sectioned off for the under-21 crowd, which seemed silly because hardly anybody was back there and so it didn't seem like the best use of space. Â On the OTHER side of the upstairs is the Beatport lounge. Â It is definitely smaller than the main dance floor, but I hear there is consistently better music to be heard in there v. the main floor.
Overall, this a great club with a couple things I think it could improve on, but I'll definitely be back when I'm in town this summer. Â The expensive cover is worth it-you get what you pay for.
Beta is a GOOD time! There are numerous bars, an upstairs room with a separate DJ, and the music was amazing.
The drinks were a little overpriced, but they were strong so it balances out I suppose! I hate paying covers so I won't come every weekend, but if you want to dance and have a good night, try Beta!
I felt compelled to write a review in response to another review. Actually it's just a response to this one quote "Beta is the Anti-Trendy Club".
I couldn't disagree more with that statement. And the drinks are definitely above average priced. Unless you think $5 a beer is cheep.
I think this is more of a 18-21 year old bar. Not that you can't have fun if you're a little older.
The one thing I remember.. There seemed to be a lot of creeper dudes throughout the club. You know the one's that come in by themselves and go to the corner and watch. Â Other than that, I don't really have anything negative to say
I am too old to write an objective review for this club, so instead I'll recount my experience:
Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump... Â (that's the beat in the background)
"Shit, it is hot in here - and muggy!"
Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump...
"Damn, it is WAY too crowded! Â No WAY is this up to fire code!"
Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump...
"Wow, she's hot..."
Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump...
"What?!?!? Â I'm sorry, I can't here you! Â What?!? Â You're how old? Â Sweet. Â No I'm - uh - I'm... Â in my 20's... ish"
Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump...
Beta is the Anti-Trendy Club. Â There's no dress code, no doorman rejecting people, drinks aren't overpriced, & best of all.... people actually come here to dance instead of just be seen. Â That makes Beta one of my favorite places to get my dance on.
Beta is world renowned for bringing in the top electronic dance music talent in the world. Â You can catch a great artist play live for $10-$20 which is much cheaper than a traditional concert. Â Ok, what if you don't know anything about electronic music? Â It's similar to how I view a country bar (which I don't like country music at all). Â It's still entirely possible to have a good time if you let yourself. Â Besides, most downtown DJ's play dance remixes by many of the artist's who actually come to play at Beta so it might not be as much of a stretch as you might think.
The layout of the club is great & offers plenty of room so it's easy to get a change of scenery if things get stale. Â They have bars everywhere & shot girls roaming around so getting a drink here is never a problem. Â There's multiple levels with different DJ's playing on the main floor & upstairs in the Beatport Lounge. Â The dance floor is always packed & sometimes hard to work your way through if just passing by. Â The patio outside is huge & has a really chill atmosphere to get some fresh air, cool off, & be able to chat with others. Â There's an assortment of funky/ cool/ hip bottle service tables & booths both out in the open as well as tucked away all around the club. Â There's bound to be something that fits your taste & style. Â Â
To me what really set's beta apart from other clubs is the production side of things. Â Nobody does it better in Denver. Â From the L.E.D. lit ceiling panels to the red L.E.D's glowing the path on the stairwells to the lighting on the graffiti wall in the basement is visually pleasing. Â They have a huge projection screen, disco balls, strobes, & various other lighting effects on the dance floor giving a concert feel. Â The Funktion-One sound system is seriously heart pounding. If you like bass then you're in for a treat. Â Probably the coolest effect (literally) is the ice cold Kryogenix spray. Â When the high powered fog blasts down on the dance floor a roar erupts in the club & the energy is crazy. Â Finally we can't forget about the Go Go's who are always dressed in awesome themed costumes workin' it on the dance floor.
As far as who you'll see roaming around... it's a varied & diverse crowd. Â It seems like people check their ego's at the door & come ready to have a good time. Â I've never seen a fight here as everyone is more interested in just trying to party. Â The dress is varied as well. You'll see casual attire like t-shirts, jeans & sneakers all the way to typical downtown short skirts, dresses, sport coats and ties. Â It is an 18 yr & older club but honestly, it doesn't feel like it. Â You get young, old & everything in between. Beta's website has a plethora of pictures, 360 degree views, & video's to get a feel for the overall vibe. Â
Bottomline: Â The music may be an issue for some or the highlight for others. Ultimately you can't get all of this anywhere else making Beta more than a nightclub... it's a real party destination. Â Check them out to see why they've been rated #1 in the nation several times & judge for yourself.
Beta was a BLAST! I am from out of town, and my friend who occasionally dj's there was able to get us on the guest list. Unfortunately, since I am not 21, and we got there after 11pm, the entrance fee jumped from $15 to $30 for me.. a little absurd, but it proved to be a good time nonetheless.
We saw Crystal Method perform, and it was nothing less than spectacular. My mind was literally blown by their show, and sporadic explosions of ice-cold fog machines to surprise and amp up [and cool down] the ragers!
If I lived in Denver, this would definitely be my hot spot of choice! Who doesn't love dubstep and elctro music that you can literally feel in your chest from giant speakers? Speaking of which, since we were standing right next to them, I thought my ears would be ringing for days, but I woke up this morning with only a little bit of residual cotton-ear effect, which has dissipated throughout the day. Seriously quality speakers.
Crystal Method was doin their thang on the main floor, but to cool off and hear another dj, you can also go upstairs, and lounge a little easier. The bathrooms were also exceptionally [and impressively!] clean. It's always a gamble to go to the restrooms at a club, but this was beyond comfortably clean. There is also a bathroom attendant who pumps a bit of soap into your palms on your way to the sinks, and then gives you a clean terry-cloth towel to dry them! There are also hair products, hair binders, bobbypins, an array of body sprays, and probably more things I didn't see, that are available for you to use... of course, I'd suggest leaving a tip if you do! There is also a whole room of sofas and full-length mirrors for the girls to relax in before returning to the dance floor.
For those who are looking to just gather with friends and hang out, there is also a lovely outdoor patio that is dripping with strings of low-voltage lights. I did not spend enough time out here to know what the service is like, but everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves nicely.
Beta is great, and I highly suggest it for anyone looking for a good time in Denver whether they're residents, tourists, or visitors! Go out and enjoy yourself a little!
I'm confused. Did I just come on a really bad night?
We came on a Friday night (21+) and
1) there were literally like 40 people there, total.
2) no one was dancing
3) the music was "okay" to "really weird."
I'm just glad there was no cover for girls. $5 for guys. We left after 10 minutes.
Thoroughly disappointed.
There is no place like Beta in Denver or the surrounding areas (some, including myself, would say the United States). If you're looking for some casual dancing to go along with your plans to get drunk for the night, this is not the place for you.
If you are into electronic dance music, come down and you won't be disappointed: Beta brings world renowned talent to its stage every Thursday and Saturday and most people are there because they enjoy the music, which is played as long as legally allowed! Â BASSic Friday's scene is a bit different in that it's dnb/dubstep night so it typically commands a bit younger crowd. Â If you want variety, their "Beatport Lounge" upstairs plays different music from that on the main floor and has its own bar.
Both dance floors feature Funktion-one sound systems which will blow your mind and make you long for Beta's high quality audio whenever you're out anywhere else. Â Stand next to the speaker and you'll feel like you have a second heart beat, but your ears still won't bleed.
Bathrooms are busy, yet pretty clean and the attendants are friendly, helpful and have a variety of products - deodorant, chewing gum, hair spray and more. Â Drink prices are about average and strongly poured. Â Bottle service customers are treated very well and kept well-stocked all night long.
I have always treated the staff there with courtesy and they have returned it in spades. Â Everyone from the door & security guys to the cashiers and bartenders have been top-notch.
Their outside patio and garden are are massive and allow a lot of space to cool down (though the Kryogenifex liquid nitrogen system does an exceptional job at this too!) and I love the bamboo "wall" - everything here is beautiful.
If it sounds like I'm gushing, I am. Â No matter where I am out in Denver, Miami, etc., I'd always rather be at Beta.
Let me preface this review with a warning, like pretty much every other venue, this place is not for everyone. Â For example, if you don't like electronic and dance music, you will not like this place. Â If you have an open mind past that point, read on.
I have made it to Beta four or five times since I made my first trip last year. Â Each time I have made the trip to Beta, I have loved it. Â It is worth the cover, which ranges from $5 to over $20 depending on the night, if you want amazing music, incredible sound, and awesome lighting and, what I affectionately refer to as the "smoke monster."
On Saturday nights, few places in Downtown Denver can compete with the atmosphere in Beta. Â While it is 18+ (I prefer a 21+ crowd), people are generally there to dance the night away and have a fun time. Â Go when Beta brings in an internationally known DJ to see what a true club experience is all about. Â This is the best it gets outside of the Euro clubs on the other side of the pond. Â It competes with top venues on the coasts with continually stellar reviews.
On Friday nights, you can enjoy the 21+ "Forever Fridays" with no cover for the ladies and a $5 cover for the guys. Â Fridays are hit and miss for the crowd, so make sure to bring good friends along. Â The resident DJs are generally very good, though not quite as original and exciting as the Saturday night imports.
The staff does not bend over backwards in the customer service department, but it is a night club. Â If you want good service, go to Morton's or The Palm for a steak, don't go to a dance club. Â If you are friendly, most door staff, security, and the coat check girl will reciprocate. Â If you are a douche, expect the same in return.
Many also claim that the crowd is kind of douchey. Â Outside of the Falling Rock Tap House next door, I know few bars with crowds that are not douchey. Â If you are so quick to judge people because they dress like Europeans and want to dance rather than stand around listening to hip hop music, your classy radar might be off. Â Different tastes does not mean douchey.
The club is fun, the drinks are stiff (and expensive, but what else is new), the music is banging, the women are beautiful, the guys are a little too plentiful for my taste (but again, what else is new), and it is a fun place for a night on the town.
In my opinion, you can't beat a night of dancing to great music with good friends. Â There is no where better to do that in Denver than Beta.
When I think about Beta, one of two things comes to mind: Â 1) awesome music and vibe or 2) terrible music because it must be douche bag night!
My first trip to Beta was with a good friend of mine who had relocated to Denver because he, at the time of relocation, was a professional mixer of music's aka a paid DJ. Â He was friends with the visiting DJ - DubFire - and asked me to tag along. Â I accepted and was not let down. Â It was a great night of music and dancing. Â There were some super sexy go-go dancers on either side of the stage and my ex-DJ friend informed me that the sound system (at the time) was state of the art (your ears don't ring when you leave at the end of the night!). Â Drinks were relatively cheap and even the extra area upstairs was spinning awesome music.
However, my second trip to Beta with girly friends was a terrible night of music filled with douche bags and some random dude stalking me around Beta "dancing for me" and trying to grab my hand every time he saw me. Â I still have no idea who he was but good grief he could not dance. Â There was also a bizarre couple that had just gotten married; they were dancing on this platform in the middle of the room in their wedding attire. Â I don't know, somehow the whole situation struck me as odd. Â To boot, the music was remixed top 40 crap. Â No thanks.
The most recent time I was at Beta was for Snowboard Colorado's magazine release party. Â The place was probably over capacity, the DJ was probably the worst I have ever seen, and I believe they upped the drink prices. Â The saving grace of course was that I was surrounded by my snowboarding friends for otherwise this would have been a complete bust.
I guess my lesson learned: Â Only go to Beta if you know who the DJ will be and if you know that you like them --- otherwise you could end up hanging out with douche bags all night.
I've been living in New York for almost 2 years, and Beta is still hands down the best clubbing experience I've ever had. Every time I come back to Denver to visit family and friends, Beta is on my checklist of places to go.
The Funktion One sound system is incredible, and I have never experienced anything like it anywhere else (even in New York). The decor is modern, eco-friendly, and sophisticated. And I also must add that the GoGo dancers are extremely fun to watch because they know how to dance, and they also wear outrageous and original costumes every night. They're dancers and not strippers, which is a welcome change from what I've seen in NEw York. And the music? Well, the resident DJs play the most cutting edge stuff in electronica, but Beta also has a great history of booking the best DJ's in the world. Deadmau5 says that Beta is his favorite club in the world.
BETA, please open up shop in New York!
Bottom line: Beta Nightclub is the best clubbing experience any house/techno/electro/whatever music lover could hope for.
I had my first experience with the now-famous Beta Nightclub last night.
Being a huge dance music fan for more than 20 years and having lived in Dallas, Houston and NYC (as well as quite a few other cities) I was excited to see firsthand what all the hoopla was about Beta.
First impression= Small
That's right- maybe I was just expecting some Mega-Club?
I'm not worried though.
What EVERYONE says IS TRUE.
The sound system = AMAZING!!
Words simply cannot give enough complements. With Bass so strong your internal organs vibrate and clothing looks like you are skydiving-- but yet you can talk at somewhat normal volume to your friends-- even on the main dancefloor!
The decor of the club in every area= top notch
As far as staff-- another good impression. I arrived about 11pm and was on the VIP list so- there is a separate entrance. The door attendant was very agreeable (read no attitude) which was a pleasant suprise after other club experiences in Denver.
I will be back.
Herein, I will relate to you, gentle reader, a litany of woe and ennui that will no doubt leave you wish you had never cast your gaze hereupon.
You have been warned. Â
Am I the only one who believes that this place is one of the worst clubs in Denver and quite possibly a doorway to hell from which the minions of Beelzebub ascend to torment the righteous and g-dfearing?
One of the doorfolk told me that I should "prepare myself."
I responded "I have been to war. Â I am prepared for more than you know. "
This should have been  a red flag, alerting me to a night of expensive misery, but alas, this was not to be. Â
Now I generally appreciate and expect a little edge and bitchiness in the staff who assist me at various places and locations, but when I order my drink (bourbon and water) and the response is "Really? Â Why would you want that?" I get slightly miffed.
I sighed, but I kept my opinions to myself as I did want to be a COMPLETE tool and ruin my companions' evening and anyway, that is what Yelp is for. Â
After FINALLY getting our drinks (if you are over 25 and at this bar, it seems that you are invisible to the bartenders) we made our way to a table where we sat down and only upon getting comfortable were we informed by a young lady that these tables were "reserved for private bottle service parties"
I replied "Then we shall order a bottle." Â The young lady who told us this informed me that I had to do so ahead of time as they "run out alot."
I attempted to ask what she meant the "run out alot" comment, but she had turned on her heel and left.
Several minutes after we were shooed from our first seating choice we found a location to occupy.
Rude, inattentive staff, poor service, dismissive behavior, I can deal with this
All this was ok. Â
Minor annoyances at best.
Little did I know the worst was yet to come. Â
Then the unspeakable occurred. Â
Justin Bieber remix.
FUCKING JUSTIN BIEBER REMIX FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY AND PURE AND GOOD!!!
sigh...
deep centering breath...
yes, I am ok...I think...
It was at this point that I should have had a PTSD flashback, but did not thanks to my expert usage of medicinal marijuana. Â
Instead, I just felt like an easier way to deal with the quickly spiraling situation would be to drown myself in a urinal.
I finished my drink and excused myself, not wanting to belabor the OBVIOUS point of my unhappiness at the situation.
So, given all the aforementioned, if I NEVER FUCKING EVER go back to Beta again, it will be TOO G-d damn soon soon.
Can I please have a bullet between my eyes now?
I love Beta! Â The first time I came here was with my friend to see BT and it was amazing. Â
It's so open and non-claustrophobic. Â Everyone is here to DANCE - not to grope people. Â I love how it felt like everyone was just connected through the music and we were all moving together as one, sort of. Â It was very surreal. Â And everyone is so friendly too!
Upstairs is a lounge area, not the most open but it overlooks the dance floor and is fun to people watch.
Beta is a pretty sick nightclub, mainly because their sound system is unmatched in Denver.
They have the hottest DJ's and it ends up being an amazing experience. Â I have had great times there and the place is a step up from many other Denver nightclubs. Â
The establishment is huge, but still classy and well-run. Â Management has definitely spent a lot of money to make this place both visually and audibly exciting. Â Always a fun time and a great place to go when you want to dance to house and techno.
Beta is a beautiful club. and I give it a solid 4.5 stars.
first i have to say, I just moved to Denver from LA and if this club was on Hollywood Blvd you would see me dancing there almost as much as you would see me at The Avalon.
Great sound system, set up and layout of the place. large extended smoking patio and a very exclusive v.i.p area for anyone interested in bottle services.
very classy and well run. Management here does really well keeping their party-go-ers safe and in line. security can be found lurking in every counter, so if you are up to no good, keep your eyes out. personally, this makes me feel safe, I'm sure it is not as prevalent here (in comparison to dirty LA) but when a fight breaks out in a club, no one is safe.
a few things that rub me the wrong way about Beta-
My boyfriend and i were not frisked at the door, we did enter from the guestlist line both times we have gone, so i am not sure if it is different at the front but i would feel better knowing everyone gets checked on the way in.
PERSONAL OPINION- Beta needs some diversity in their resident dj's sound and music in general. both times i have gone all i have heard is the repetitive sound of lyric-less trance and mid-grade minimal. i realize the music in Denver differs from LA but i would like to hear something a little harder at Beta. that really makes you want to move, not stand in a circle and sway.
overall Beta is a great club, beautiful and worth your time and money!
infected mushroom will be in town soon, hope to see you all there.
Another refreshing spot in Denver!! Â Wish this place was in Chicago or Miami. Â Regardless, Denver is lucky to have it.
Kind of odd how our IDs were checked, we were given tickets, stamped then our tickets were taken. Â I just remember there were like 3 checkpoints before actually being allowed clearance.
Beta is very spacious and clean. Â There is a huge water dispenser to the side (great for ppl who are broke, simply don't want to wait or are likely to misplace their unfinished water bottles!!). Â
The outdoor area is a nice get away from the loud music, although the bar outside has limited options. Â I heard Beta has daytime parties in the outdoor area on Sundays. Â
The VIP area was also a great use of the space.
Being the Beatport[.com] club, of course, this spot has a great sound system. Â Loved it! Â
The lady on the sidewalk selling burritoes out of a cooler capped the night off in a supreme way. Â :-)
Beta's sound system makes my insides feel jiggly.
I was here last Saturday for the Kaskade show (wutwut) and had a mah-valous time. Â Drinks were priced comparable to any other dance club (i.e. Vinyl), so don't expect to get away for cheap (unless you don't drink at all or intend on lapping up the excess that's been spilled all over the floor ...ew). Â Props to the bartender for mixing me a shot that poured a full drink glass.
Um... nice mix of folk'. Â Party people clubby kids to fratty-types to laid back jeans/sneakers to girls confusing the place for a porn audition. Â No noted attitude, just people there to dance and have a good time. Â The place did get super packed and sweaty, so if you have social anxiety or claustrophobia or don't like breathing in the community-fresh-scent of 200 people crammed together, you probably shouldn't go.
I like how they have a few different places to be: the main floor, the "loft"-type thing on the second floor, and the room on the second floor with a different DJ. Â We spent most of the night *packt like sardines in a crushed tin box*, but at one point went to the loft-thing and I was amazed that I had been mixed in with that many people. Â It was like a sea of bodies...
Anyway, I recommend buying tickets for shows you're interested in seeing online before the event, as prices DOUBLED at the door (lame). Â Also, pre-gaming isn't a bad idea either (as it never is with downtown drinking prices) along with cabbing or bussing or carpooling (with a DD, of course) because parking can be a bitch if you don't like the idea of spending $10 before you're even inside the place. Â Overall, I had a great time and wouldn't hesitate to hit this place up again for another show.
Great soundsystem rivalling any of the best I've ever experienced. A great room focusing on the music not the meatmarket. Top notch international talent. Â Beta is as close to a proper music-driven club in Europe as Denver gets.
This jaded, international club hopping New Yorker says "quality".
Lodo is SO not my scene. I try to avoid it like the plague most weekends, but I braved it last night to go to Beta as a friend of mine had several DJ friends that were spinning (or whatever you call it) that night.
I stood in line for 20 minutes as I tried to repress flashbacks of being 22 and drinking so much Jagermeister that I thought I was both God and Satan in one body. Then throwing up.
Once I paid the $20, I was transported away from the horrible Lodo streets of Popped Collars yelling "Dude, I'll see you inside, Bro!" and into a place where beats reigned supreme and only about half the people there were trying to hook up.
At first, I was really thrown by the $20 cover, but when I started to think about it, it's about the cost of a concert ticket and the DJs had come in from California, so they were, in essence performing. That's how I rationalized spending that much just to get in.
The decor is exactly what you would expect to find in a club that spins electronic music most nights. Blue lights clear furniture and a HUGE dance floor. Upstairs, there is a lounge and an observation deck for the floor below. The lounge music is more chill as is the decor, providing numerous chairs and couches to relax on before you decide you need to dance some more.
The sound system. Oooooooh, the sound system. It literally blew my dress around if I walked right past the speakers. And when the bass was heavy, it made my Eve's Apple rattle. There was never a crackle, never a fade, never a sign that this sound system couldn't handle whatever it was given.
The drinks weer expensive. I'll just say it, even though I'm sure you already guessed they were. This is definitely a place you want to "pre-game" for so you don't spend $100 on drinks.
Also, Saturday night is 18+ night, which I thought I would despise, but turned out, I couldn't really tell who was that young in the crowd.
Most of the people were too busy getting down to the mad beats being played.
The Problem: My 19-year-old-Electronica-loving-sister was in town for the weekend, and wanted to go out to a club
The Source: Yelp of course!
The Solution: Beta Nightclub on Saturday nights is 18+ and THE spot for electronica music in Denver!
The Night: My friend decided to join my sister and I that night, which started with a few margaritas at the Rio. Â The downside was that tickets to get in were $15. Â I understand that it was due to the dj playing that night, Kaskade, but still...a little pricey for me (Hence, the 3 stars). Â Regardless, we did have a great time. Â
The club is huge, so lots of room to dance and people watch. Â Everyone there was excited about the music, and not focused on picking somebody up or seeing how many girls they can grind with. Â I was pleasantly surprised with how reasonable the drinks were, not the over-priced club drinks I was expecting. Â I thought the bartenders gave good service, and one of them even gave my friend and I 2 free shots when we pointed out that she charged us for 1 too many drinks, and was very apologetic.
The Consequence: My sister really enjoyed the music, and loved the club. Â My friend and I had a blast at a place we have never been to, listening to music we usually don't listen to. Â I will definitely be back with my sister in tow next time she is in town. Â This place even made her want to bring her friends to Denver for Spring Break!
The electronic music scene in Denver is really lackluster. So when big name DJ's come to town I get very excited. Came here for the first time to see DJ Techno God himself Richie Hawtin a few Thursdays ago. My first complaint: Why bring an amazing name like Hawtin to town on a THURSDAY?!?! However, I was glad that I got a chance to even see him, so I trekked my happy ass out in the rain on a school night.
Beta has a bangin' sound system. Â I like the ambience of this place and it was much bigger than I thought it was going to be! Â Lots of space to dance around and chill out if you want to. The drinks are fairly reasonable too (compared to what I would expect drinks to cost at a nightclub). Â However, I felt really really old here. It was an 18+ night and 18 was a long ways ago for me. Â The crowd kind of blows, but I really can't complain as this is one of the only spots in Denver that brings in semi-decent talent.
Here comes another scintillating review from Yelp Denver's Officially Unofficial Resident Nightlife Reporter... Yes I am a total nightclub whore (So where you when you where 23) but at least I writing about helps me through my hangovers.
So being the ridiculously important person I am, I was actually one of the first people  in Denver to find out about the transformation of Rise Nightclub into the techno-lovers Shangri-la that it is now & my first thought upon hearing the news was 'I hope they do it right'.
I can report that I am very impressed (Did I just refer to myself in the 3rd person??)
The remodel took 3 months... For long 3 months the dance floor sat empty of dancers, the devoid of drunks, the go go boxes stood solemnly missing their furry booted, fine booty'd performers. Â During this time Beta was equipped with the Funktion 1 Sound System, which is Officially the Best Sound System in North America & rivals the great discotheques of Ibiza & Europe. Â Let's just say that any DJ in Denver would sell their soul to the Gods of Vinyl & MP3 to spin on this system.
Beta's Grand Opening was everything you would expect of a big nightclub opening... Big name entertainment like Sharam of Deep Dish, Kaskada and $5000 Table Reservations. In the next few months they have kept big the DJ tables manned by big names like Paul Van Dyke, Paul Oakenfold, Donald Glaude, Bad Boy Bill & some how they sweet talked Danny Tanaglia in to throwing down a Mile High house music set.
Beta delivers a world class nightclub experience...
- Professional & great looking staff at the door, behind the bar & on the aforementioned Go Go boxes
- Plenty of 'I am WAY to drunk to dance so I'm going to sit down & make out with some random person' zone otherwise referred to as couches & booths
- A great bottle service experience
- Really Nice Bathrooms, seriously do you really need freshly cut flowers in the Men's Room??
Might I ad that in addition this place is really, really well promoted & is always slammed with about of thousand of Denver's best looking people.
The great location, major DJ talent and promotion make Beta a perfect place to find the fun loving, mildly intoxicated, fashionable dressed extremely good looking young woman you have been searching for all your life. Â OR... If you are that young woman then lets just say you'll find me at Beta. Â Â
The best nights to pay homage to Denver's new nightlife place of worship are...

Fridays

Saturdays
+21 Beatport bring in big name talent
I heard the beat as I turned the corner. My feet started to move and the rest of my body followed. Beta lured me in with the possibility of good music. The atmosphere is what kept me there.
When I first heard a real spot was opening with the guys from Beatport I figured it would be good, but what I didn't consider was just how good it would be! Several floors of great energy, cool lighting, and a great sound system, plus an outdoor lounge area with couches and POOLS?!?! Craziness and fun waiting to happen!
I love that they bring in big name djs. DJ Z-trip spun on 4th of July weekend and kept it kicking all night long! It's as close to Chicago as it could get without even being remotely snooty or pretentious. Though the dancefloor seems a little desolate at first give it time, before you know it you're surrounded by tons of peeps who are there FOR THE MUSIC, the drinks are good too, but it's nice to have a place to dance where I'm not getting knocked into by people who are there to just get drunk.
This is my kind of scene, thank you beatport for brining this to Denver, I don't know what I did without you!
Um...I didn't really like this place. Â I went to hear Dimitri from Paris when he was in town and I thought the place was a little lame. Â I just didn't like the atmosphere in general so left after a couple of hours because I was bored.
What I thought was weird was that it was snowing and cold outside yet they didn't have a coat check so I had to carry around my wool coat for 2 hours. Â They had a room for coat check, but it was closed and then a person on the staff directed us to another area where there was supposed to be a coat check and that one was closed too. Â Let's just say the staff was less than helpful.
This place will blow your mind! Aside from the fact the half of the top 15 Â DJs in the world will have played there by the end of July, their attention to detail is unreal.
I set up some bottle service for my birthday a few weeks ago, they let us in the VIP entrance around the corner and led us into our own Champagne room that looks like it is straight out Fear and Loathing. My entire crew of 10 people (plus they gave me extra VIP wrist bands for others that came later) was led up to the second floor where we had our own lounge-couch-booth looking right over the dance floor into DJ booth. Bottles are a bit pricey ($200+tax+tip for absolute), but it was totally worth it. Our table turned into its own party, and i had one of the best club nights of my life. The staff was soo nice.
Overall, the clubs attention to detail is awesome. That includes the bouncers, they are everywhere and dont miss a thing so try not to act too wasted in front of them. I would also recommend pre-purchasing tickets to the club at <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.groovetickets.com&s=8d1c582a842335ac85775cfe923ada8dde60bcf03fe35dff7431582f2456aa7a" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.groovetickets…</a> as it can presell out, especially on Thursday nights when its 18+. If you go, make sure you check out the Beatport lounge upstairs in the back, its lightsystem is something else.
This has to be the hottest club to hit Denver in a long time.
The sound is flawless and the lights and lasers are amazing.
With big names booked for months, I'll be back week after week.
Another plus, the bartender actually remember what I was drinking after just one order, and continued to remember 4 more times. That's pretty uncommon in a crowded club.
I highly suggest you check this place out, if not for the music for the "experience".
Wow, I couldn't disagree more with Michelle on Beta!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Beta. This club brings a lot to the Denver electronic music scene - stellar sound (Funktion One!), beautiful bathrooms, kind bartenders (no charge for soda? f- you Vinyl at $4!!), good crowd, sweet decor, great visuals, nice lasers. I am really looking forward to many more evenings here. Â There is a "Beatport Lounge" upstairs featuring a different DJ, so if you need a break from the main floor, that option is there!
Denver finally has a respectable club at which to hear top-tier DJs. Â With names like Steve Bug, Modeselektor, James Zabiela, Switch, Jesse Rose, Z-Trip, Bad Boy Bill, and Danny Tenaglia (!!!) already booked in the coming months, Beta will be the place to be this spring and summer!
Their patio grand opening is May 22 - 25, and I can't wait to see what that is like!
As far as I know, the entire upstairs area with tables is the VIP section. Â So if you sit down there, but didn't pay for a bottle, I wouldn't be surprised if the staff asked you to leave. Â Also, I haven't seen any concert events noted on their schedule - it looks like all DJs to me!
So, check out their schedule, pick a night that sounds good to you, and go experience Beta for yourself! Â :)
