I've never been a huge fan of Big Bang (there is one in columbus as well that I've been to many times). But this particular location pretty much sucked. First, you pay $6 cover. Ok, whatever that's standard for a piano bar. But then in order to actually hear a decent variety of music you have to make your own requests and lay down at least $10 for it to be played in a reasonable amount of time. So, already you're out $16 just to stand around in this oddly set-up bar and listen to one decent song. At least the other Big Bang I've been to likes to switch it up every once in a while. We all love Journey, yes. But I heard "Don't Stop Believin" TWICE in the matter of an hour. WHY? It's fun the first time to have the entire bar yell the words while subsequently spilling their drink all over my leg, but a second time in the matter of 60 minutes is too much. How about some variety. The rest of the night was complete with singing "happy birthday" to all the people celebrating their birthdays on the stage with a dirty rendition of "head, shoulders, knees, and toes". Entertaining, I suppose, but still... Anyway, the lighting is weird too. It's like they can't decide if they want it to be dark or completely lit. Basically, I think the only people that were having fun were the two bachelorette parties and the people wasted after a cards win. Note to self: get hammered before attempting to enjoy this place.
Review Source:Brought 12 girls in for a bachlorette and chose the piano bar as a last stop. We have been to piano bars in a few cities so we knew the general idea of what to expect.
The Blues and the Blackhawk's had just played and for some reason the piano players were obsessed with the idea of pitting the fans against each other. Cute bit for 20 minutes but an hour later we almost left so we didn't have to hear about it anymore. The whole bar was annoyed. We paid to suggest a song and three hours later we walked out the door still waiting. Not a terrible travesty but it would have been nice.
I will say the wait staff were awesome which is usually not the case in a piano bar. We never had a problem getting a drink whether we were at the bar or at our tables next to the stage.
Would come back for another night to give it another shot.
This place is a lot of fun. Â The Dual piano's and the crowd singing along is a blast. Â The drink prices are a but pricey and the place can get very crowded and tight, Â but other then that it is a lot of fun! Â On a busy night, there is NO room for dancing, Â just not that type of place.
Review Source:In my opinion, this piano bar was not as people friendly as I would have liked. After going to one in Chicago, I had great expectations for this one.
The bar is very big, but the music didn't resonate as well as it would throughout the room. I think they need a better sound system. The music was well played, there was just a lot of music that I've never heard and I couldn't really sing along to.
People got their drinks and then sat around to the music. I like it when everyone feels the need to get up and dance.
The piano area seemed pretty unapproachable with the crowds of people and the amount of space.
My suggestion would be that they have some more lighting like to change up the atmosphere a bit.
It took one bartender in this place to change my review. Brandon you rock! I recently came back here with my sister and a friend of mine and we had a blast. I wish however they would make the vagrants move away from right outside the door. Nothing like being a little tipsy and feel like your going to get mugged. Good drinks. Good Music. Good Time.
Review Source:Even though this place is a COMPLETE tourist trap, I absolutely love it and always will! My friends and I have a tendency to go here for celebrations (birthdays, friends in town, etc) and it's always a blast. Being on the Landing, of course the drinks are going to be expensive, but it's well worth it in my opinion. I'm never bored here, and have (on mulitiple occasions) stayed here for hours at a time, singing and dancing like a fool. This place never gets old.
Review Source:If I see one more bachelorette party there, I am going to scream.
Without a doubt, the musicians are very talented. I'm sure it's very difficult to convert "Bad Romance" into a piano-solo version, but they manage. I've noticed that they are not great at keeping up with requests, and sometimes it seems that they downright ignore them. Perhaps they are desperate for some variety.
Drinks are average, and don't expect to be able to hold a conversation with anyone.
Final word: Come prepared with some unique and suitable-for-piano song choices because those poor people have probably played "Sweet Caroline" a thousand times. Bring some $10 bills too. $1's just won't cut it.
Seeing dueling pianos at a bar was something that I had never experienced...until I went to the Big Bang. Â The pianists up at the front highly encouraged the crowd interaction and took requests (+tips!)...
There eventually was a large crowd and the pianists knew quite a wide variety of songs...from old school to top 40 stuff. Quite interesting.
This is the place to go if you're just looking to have a good time with some friends, but not if you're looking for a place to hold a conversation because it gets pretty loud in there. Â Not sure about the prices of the drinks, but I believe they carry all the standard alcohol
I went here for a Bachelor party and to be honest, it was not the place I would take a bachelor party. There were several bachelorette parties, but it's too loud to just talk and enjoy each other's company, and it lacks the fundamental aspects of a great watering hole.
I could see the attraction if you are a tourist in the area and wanting to see  some of the sights in downtown STL and the Landing. But for what we were looking for I would look elswhere.
I had been here once before about a year ago and loved it. This is the only piano bar I have been to (which totals around 4) that continuously plays music and also mixes it up more with other instruments. They probably had 6 players that would switch out so the music could keep going and give some a break. It's a nice space overall, fits great for what it's used for. Based on the 1st half of my night, I would have given them 5 stars ... remembering that this place is a bar. The service was good but they are clearly not focused on service, typical bar waitresses. What gets the good rating is how well they play, the variety they play and the fact it seems every musician can play every instrument. The difference in the 2nd half? It seems it devolved somewhat into pandering to the crowd with a rendition of a song I can't remember now that included lots of f words thrown in just because evidently they could. The 2nd half also didn't include the girl, who clearly is the star of all the players. You will see what I mean if you go. Of course, earlier in the evening you don't have as many drunks that come in from other clubs on the Landing either. It is worth a visit.
Review Source:Ok. So I posted about my experience at the Big Bang last week. I would like to say that the manager has contacted me and was very concerned about the experience I had. I would like to say that it was unfair for me to rate the entire place based on one server. I am very pleased with the attempt that was made to remedy the situation that happened last weekend. Thanks Big Bang for the concern.
Review Source:I want to give another review for this place so here goes...
So I just frequented this place again for another bachelorette party (what else?) and was by far more impressed than the first time I came here.
I think this is a great first stop for a night on the landing. I think the entertainment provided including both male and female piano/vocalists were great---I esp. loved their rendition of nysync and salt 'n peppa songs. Fun times. This is a great place for parties and getting your drink on to help you enjoy the rest of the night.
On another note--I can't stay here but maybe an hour. I get bored by constant sitting in bars--I like to dance or stand and talk so because of that this is not a 5 star bar, but just a 4 star bar. Fun for a lot of people, but for me, it's not the best place to spend an evening.
I will never step foot in this place again! I purchased a Living Social coupon for reserved seating for 4 people, 4 shots & a pizza. I called in advance to reserve our table. Upon arrival we were escorted to our "reserved" table which was the absolute WORST seat in the entire building! We were seated looking at the back of one of the piano players & couldn't see the stage or other piano player at all. Now, some may say that's what you get when using a coupon but frankly, I look at the coupon as the business' opportunity to get me in the door & show me why I should come back. Needless to say, this didn't happen. Our waitress Jenny acted put off that she even had to wait on us. In the end, after waiting about 20 minutes for a drink for our designated driver, I got up & chased her down to remind her we were still waiting for that drink & asked her politely to close out our account. Needless to say, due to the horrible seating & poor service, our night & bar tab was cut much shorter than it would have been otherwise.
Review Source:I really like this place. I think I'd rather go here than to Big Daddy's. The dueling piano players are awesome and know so many songs. They also are really good singers too. The music was kickin', the crowd was good, the women weren't bad. This is a really good place to go if you want to just chill out and listen to some good classics.
Review Source:Ok, clearly I'm in the minority on this one, but I can't stand this place! I am drug here, without fail, by every one of my out of town friends who come to STL for bachelorette parties or to go to a game and then party on the landing. Fail one. Then I have to pay go in, wrestle my way to the bar, pay $5+ for a bottle of beer (and not even decent beer, just Bud Lite), and push through a sea of chicks in veils and matching t-shirts just to stand in what feels like everyone's pathway to the bathroom. Fail 2-5. Shoot me.
This is not to say the musicians are not talented. Quite the opposite in fact... they can play just about any song you throw at them (after you tip the "request bouncer"). I enjoy listening to them rock out on the piano. Maybe if you cut out the mass of people and the cheesy "this is Amy and she's getting married/it's her birthday" routines I'd be able to stomach it more. Maybe.
I am STILL in awe of the pianists' breadth of knowledge. They knew how to play everything from Red Hot Chili Peppers, to Ke$ha, to Nsync. Insaaane. There was definitely a pretty diverse group of people.. bachelorettes, newly-minted-21-year-olds and all sorts of students. All these people put together, plus alcohol and two pianists equals a hilarious way to spend a night out!
Expect to pay $6 for cover and my go-to drink (vodka-coke) was $4.25.. and they were pretty generous with the vodka so it was a pretty good deal. As for parking, there are a couple of paid parking lots.. there's one right across from Big Bang for $5.
It's a cheap good time out with friends. Plus you get to belt out all sorts of songs without fear of judgment or embarrassment.. what could be a better way to spend a night out?
This was the first location during the Metrolink Bar Crawl that I had made last week. I chose the location based on the recommendation of a friend, distance from the Metro link Station, and the positive vibes I received while there. And I have to say I kinda fell in love with this location.
First off, the place is reminiscent of a dive bar which makes me happy. Not a lot of fancy things here but the stage and pianos which is awesome. This place is also has a good size to it but the chairs and tables seem a bit tight for comfort. I can imagine the place being a bit warm during a performance.
It was also hard to figure out the doors at first as well. Call me being an idiot, it took me a few minutes. In my defense, I never go to the Landing but I digress.
The drink specials we received were quite nice ($3 domestics, wells, and shot specials). They seemed to have the standard fare as far as drinks. Plus there prices were pretty cool as well. Nothing really amazing as far as unique drinks but the staff seemed really down to earth and friendly which can make or break a bar in my opinion.
I should add as well they do have a military appreciation night as well which has awesome specials!
I really enjoyed the time I spent here for the bar crawl adventure! One of the friendlier staffs I've encountered! Also they were very transit friendly which is always a win. But really the friendly staff and drink specials won me over. I have to check out the place on the night of a performance to really give a complete review. But just for the other intangibles I'm giving them four stars!
Don't get me wrong. I love piano bars. I want to take piano bars out to the Hill for a nice pasta dinner, then maybe bring them back to my place for some $7 shiraz and talk about our feelings. We might pop in Bad Boys 2 if things get interesting.
But I digress. The Big Bang is by far the best piano bar in St. Louis. The musicians and entertainers are extremely talented and creative; they can stir up the stiffest of crowds with a funny joke or a great ballad. Every time I've gone, I've had a great time, and they always manage to play some of my favorite songs. If you're a Beatles, Elton John, or Billy Joel fan, you need to go. Expect to drop a few dollars if you want to hear your song played, especially if there's a bachelorette party in town (which happens about 95% of the time). The $6 dollar cover is totally worth it and serves as a great spot to end the night on the Landing.
My all time favorite spot for a night out in St Louis! Â Its trashy and cool all the same time and makes for an interesting night all around.
The bouncers are on a bit of a power trip. Â Since I have an out of state ID, they always scrutinize it extra closely. Â One even tried to peel the lamination off of it which I thought was a bit excessive but at least I've never been turned away. Â
The music is corny but I love that they interact with the audience and get everyone really going. Â Once, there was a group of Notre Dame fans and a group of Ohio State fans (GO BUCKS!) and the pianists went back and forth with the fight songs for what seemed like a ridiculous amount of time. Â It was absolutely wonderful!
During one visit, a friend and I were at the bar and someone, we never did figure out who it was, told the bartender to give us what ever we wanted for the rest of the night. Â You'd better believe we took advantage of that offer!
Now that Columbus has their own branch, I feel like this is the big brother of the Big Bangs. Â The other ones can try to imitate it, but they'll never, ever come close.
Yes there are some things that are annoying. Â The bachlorette parties. Â The girls walking around trying to get you to buy over-priced, under-alcoholed (I think I just invented a word) shots in test tubes. Â But if you can ignore them, stake out a spot and sing along you'll have a great time.
Came on thurs night and the kids are out of school for xmas break. So bars around were dead. and kinda sad, the town. me, the bf and friend walked in around 10, easily, with no cover (not sure if they usually charge), and the place was about 2/3 capacity. apparently this is where everyone was that night. 2 Dueling pianist were on stage facing each other. One (smaller, blonde) was good. He was singing in key, etc. The other one, was like a mediocre fill in, for a "thurs night". You know when you go to a titty bar on Monday or tuesday, and get mon, tues crop of dancers? This felt like it. He was singing out of tune, though he played well enough.
But beer were cheap. $3/ bottle (budweiser duh), and bartenders were friendly. They were wondering where this petite asian girl was doing in St. Louis, and made a comment about my supposed "accent". I do not have one. So maybe the lack of. But i got shots on the house. Score! Just what i needed to blend in with the tipsy crowd, and so i can ignore bad singing. Or find the guts to boo him. haha.. and i did. Right about when he did a rendition of Billy Jean and Thriller. I like MJ, but damn these songs are not for the piano, and not the the guy's singing.
An hour and half later, we left (they started playing bad songs. shouldn't piano bar be about awesome 80's and 90's pop/ rock? Since when do they become Hairspray the Musical tribute?)
So on we went, down the street to Big Daddy's (keeping with the "big" theme. wahaha) Review to follow :)
The best experience for improv and music combined. Â I know to bring fun loving people here. Â I have heard the performers switch from genre to genre with a smirk and a corny joke. Â I have never heard a complaint from anyone I have brought down to Big Bang.
I perfer to go early when my guests and I can have more requests actually played. Â I like the interaction. Â I want to challenge the pianist or atleast hear something I requested. Â This does make the whole event special with each visit.
Big Bang is always interesting and fun, but I do not bring the uptight crowd.
yes we were tourists
yes we were out for a bachelorette party
yes we arrived already intoxicated
so of course the big bang was on our list of places to take our bride-to-be. Â several in the group had been before and our expectations were met when the "main event" piano players took the stage.
they took our request to sing to the bride quickly and even had our whole group up on stage to dance with her. Â she had a great time and felt pretty special shaking it up there. Â drinks aren't terrible for a tourist trap like this (sooooo much better than howl at the moon, good lord!) and it's not too hard to get a drink. Â we managed to snag two tables after another group cleared out, which i would definitely recommend.
songs you know all the words to, adorable gay men telling you that you're beautiful, easy access to drinks, and a huge bathroom...what more can you really be looking for when planning a bach party night out?
The Big Bang is interesting because not only do they use the dual piano system, but they incorporate both physical and verbal comedy into their set. Â I enjoyed the lighthearted atmosphere. Â At times, the jokes can get a little old, but the pianists' skills make up for that. Â The bartenders were also friendly and there are plenty of seats so it's not one of those awkward places where your standing around waiting for a seat to open.
Review Source:Most Thursday nights, the WashU crowd goes to Morgan Street for the beginning of their nights, and ultimately ends up at the Big Bang (which is open until 3AM).
This dueling piano bar is pretty sweet. The bar is set up to make the seating surround the little stage with pianos on it. Two guys go to town on the pianos and give everyone a great time. They take requests off of napkins, which I think is pretty cool. Their set always includes Journey, Elton John, Billy Joel, and sometimes a little Foreigner. If you started to go every week, you'd pick up on the repeat of playlists.
The drinks are fairly cheap, but sometimes getting to the bar through the crowd can be a trip, especially if you are not a football player. The place can get VERY loud, so keep that in mind.
I HEART THE BIG BANG!
The pianos are fantastic. Some really talented musicians that are super friendly and great at getting the crowd going. I went with a group of friends. We stayed for about 5 hours. We had so much fun.
I went on a saturday and the cover was $6 the time I went before that it was $10. So I guess that is a little of an improvement. The beer is expensive to me $4 for a beer (I don't get it! You'd think Bud Light would be cheaper in St. Louis since its local. Guess not) Mixed drinks are $5. The Bach parties do kind of get old but you expect it. There was NEVER a line to the bathroom. *bonus*
A tip: don't get drunk and hop up on stage without being invited or sit on stage or sit your beer on the stage.
I fell in love with duel piano bars when my college town got one. The Big Bang does not disappoint.
The environment is fun, and the pianists are really talented and great at getting the crowd into it. They really play according to the crowd. The last time I was there, there were Marines and soldiers, so they played "I'm Proud to be an American." I guess that sounds cheesy, but it was really nice.
The bar also offers fast service and reasonable prices.
And, this isn't really a complaint, but there is always at least four bachelorette parties there. It is a fun place to go for that type of thing, since you get up on stage. I guess it's just starting to become a cliche. But I can see the draw. It's really one of the most fun bars in St. Louis.
Really fun, fast paced. It is always really hot in the place, even in the winter months, eek... However, no matter how busy they are, they get drinks out to you pretty darn fast. The staff is lots of fun.
The pianists are exceptionally good and they know such a wide array of songs its nearly impossible to request something that they don't know!!
The Big Bang is an innovative place that features two very good pianists singing comedy tunes and classics. It's a nice place to just sit down and enjoy the atmosphere. They encourage crowd interaction. Personally, it's not my kind of place, and I was a little bored because of that, but I still recognize the entertainment value here for someone that may be into a place like this.
Review Source:I've never met a piano bar I didn't love. Â This is no exception. Â The cocktail waitresses are super nice despite having to push through crowds and do hourly dance routines. Â The pianists are incredibly creative (ranging from Southpark songs to Eric Clapton). Â And best tasting Bud Lights in the world. Â 3rd favorite bar in the world behind the Saddle Ranch Chophouse on Sunset Blvd and Blue Light in San Francisco.
Also, everyone wears t-shirts that say "Bang This"...goldstar for that.
