Rode the Bozelli's roller coaster last night ...
Ordered the medium Steak and Cheese and Prosciutto/Moz/Red Peppers subs. Â Right off the bat I was turned off by the price.
When I picked up the subs ... I was downright pissed. "I paid almost $9 a sub for this" Â were my first thoughts. Â The subs were small man, real small, especially for the price paid.
Well, when we got home, we were pleasantly surprised. Â Both were very good. The S&C was light on the cheese, but the meat was very lean and flavorful. Â The Prosciutto was real, real salty, but it's somewhat expected with a cured meat like this, still real good.
After the meal, my feelings were, despite being real good, not worth the almost $9. But again, they were good.
I'm sure everyone hates the Italian Store comparison, but you literally get three times the amount of meat there and the price is the same and the bread at the Italian Store is also better.
I work across the street from Bozzelli's & have been coming here for a while now. I usually stick with the pizza's or pasta's since they love to put marinara sauce on my turkey sandwich. It seems lite mayo got lost in translation and ended up being marinara sauce..
It's pretty tasty just stay away from the desserts since they're pretty dry & lack lots of flavor.
Good sandwich place, but that's what it is, not a deli (in my humble opinion). It has a good menu of italian classics and typical grill joint food. with some grab and go italian goodies. but i didnt see any meat or fresh bread, salads, pickles etc.
That said, The food was quite good. Had the eggplant parm sub. i was a little distracted bc it wasnt what I expected (but that's bc im always expecting what I got from my favorite place back home) but after my initial disappointment wore off and I got over myself, i realized it was actually a delicious sub - So well done!
hubby liked the metro italian and my little one thrashed some wings. we spent over $50 for us and two small kids so a bit much for a deli.
BUT, only our first time and the food was good so we will give it another shot im sure.
Dang! i forgot to get the stuffed pretzel. didnt see it on the menu board. so i will have to go back just for that!
4.25 stars. Â The deli is nice and clean with a small dining area. Â I had the special that day - a pulled pork sandwich (with cole slaw), which was absolutely delicious. Â It was just as good as the pulled pork sandwich I get at Mike's American Grill, except at less than half the price. Â Awesome!
Review Source:Bozzelli's is one of my favorite deli's. Â I used to go all the time when I lived very close but now I only go whenever I am in the area. Â I've always loved their subs, especially the bread. Â However, I went by yesterday and either they changed their bread or it was an off day because it was very dry. Â I'm going to have to check it out again because their subs can't be beat. Â Most of my family loves the Metro but I always go with a simple ham and cheese sub. Â I love their sweet potato fries too.
Review Source:For northern Virginia, before there was subway there was Bozelli's. Â The best quality meats, fresh cheeses and baked bread are the signature characteristics of their sandwiches and subs. Â Bozelli's was doing cold subs and sandwiches WAYYY before Jered. Â
A long time ago, when I was working a summer job in Lorton in the 80s, I used to get Bozelli's at their old location on Route 1. Â Back then the business was operated by a couple of Italian immigrants who knew their craft and eventually built a family icon that has now three locations: Springfield, Arlington and Ft. Belvoir. Â
Today, even though the Bozelli brothers have pretty much handed the business down to the younger generation, the quality and service is still as good as it gets.
I highy recommend the "Metro Sub" - it is the bomb. Â Whenever I go to this place I have to get this classic italian sub on fresh baked white bread that is fluffy and full of amazing flavor. Â The pepperoni steak & cheese is another mouth-watering Bozelli's classic that is a must for anybody looking to try a something a little different.
If you want a great place for a subs that offer an excellent alternative to Subway, try this spot on the southern end of Alban road off of Backlick in Springfield.
My husband and I recently moved to the Springfield area and discovered this gem of a sandwich/pizza joint. Â It's located in a random shopping strip just down the street from where we live. Â Now that I know about it though, wherever we may move in the future, I will definitely keep this in our list of cheap dining-out options. Â
Service has always been fast and friendly. Â You order at the front and can dine-in or carry-out (or call ahead and pick-up). Â They also deliver, which is really convenient when you're having a party and want good pizza that doesn't taste like papa johns/dominos/pizza hut (blech).
Some of our favorites:
NY Pretzel Roll - It's not on their regular menu, but it's listed as a special on the chalkboard. Â You should definitely ask about it if you've never had a pretzel roll before. Â It's like a sandwich inside a soft pretzel. Â One point of criticism - I recently dined-in and ordered this sandwich. Â Instead of making it to order, they handed me one that was already ready to go. Â Granted it was a very busy time as it was a Friday during lunch, so I assume it was fairly freshly made, but there's just something better about a sandwich that is "made to order." Â I was really hungry and I appreciated the fact that I got my sandwich immediately, but in hindsight, I would have preferred to wait for them to make me a fresh one. Â Â Â
Sweet Potato Fries - Almost always delicious, it comes with special seasoning that eliminates the need for ketchup or other condiment. Â I would recommend not calling ahead and pre-ordering these, because the hot & freshness of these certainly makes a big difference, as with most fries. Â
Steak and Cheese - The steak is a little different than what you normally expect. Â I feel like it is more similar to roast beef, but nonetheless, it's still delicious and actually tastes healthier, if it's possible for a steak and cheese to be "healthy." Â
Turkey & Havarti Cheese - This cold sub is very, very tasty. Â Get it with everything, and it's like a party in your mouth. Â The red pepper relish is the best. Â It's not even comparable to anything at Subway. Â For whatever reason, whenever Subway puts red pepper relish on my sandwiches, it makes the bread soggy if you don't eat it fast enough. Â That is not the case with this sub.
Metro Classic Italian - This sub is so delicious. Â It comes cold, but if you prefer it hot, just request that when you order. Â I definitely prefer the bread warm and cheese melted on my Italians.
Pizza - The quality of the dough, cheese, and sauce make this menu item one of our favorites. Â We especially like the combination of banana pepper and onions. Â
The only downside to this place is that they close fairly early. Â The latest they are open is 8pm which is at least an hour earlier than the time we usually eat dinner during the week. Â But that makes Bozzellis's a prime lunch or weekend option for us.
It's easily my favorite deli in the NOVA area. They care about their customers, their products, and the word of mouth that comes with good pizza!
I cant really get it all in here, but I'll try. The pizza here is top notch, with pepperonis that are the size of a small fist. Its as authentic as NY Street Pizza as I think you can get outside of NY. The subs here are amazing, and I really cant just make it up. Hot fresh pressed bread, peppers, quality ingredients, the works. I really think a lot of people hate on this place just to side with the Italian Store in Rosslyn, as if there was some mob backed deli war going on through internet review sites?!? Maybe I'm on to something here.
They always have new and rotating stuff too. Like the NY Pretzel Roll sandwich, fresh squeezed juice, cakes, mini cupcakes, cheesecake, and God bless the Lou's Ice Tea (On Tap, no less).
Last time I was at Bozzeli's I was chatting up the staff about a Pizza/Peperoni Roll idea, and you know what -they made the time to hear me out, and will actually give it a shot. Management is everything in the restaurant business, and Mike, the proprietor, is hands down one of the best I've had the pleasure to meet. They cater too - and have an impressive array of options at their disposal.
They just got a beer and wine license here, so I really think Happy Hour is about to go down at the deli.
This has been my favorite sandwich place since I moved to the DC area.. When I worked close by, I went there at least weekly for lunch. Everything I have tried is delicious, but I always end up back at the steak and cheese (with or without pepperoni). The bread is probably the most important thing in a sandwich to me and its what makes this place so good. Also make sure to order the mini fries with it, there cheap and delicious steak fries!
There is a decent amount of seating, but definitely fills up fast during lunch. I am sad however, that I moved and changed job locations and their only other location is in Crystal City! :(
For some reason Google Maps doesn't think you can make a left into this plaza from Backlick/Alban Rd, but you can.
I've only tried the steak, pepperoni, and cheese, but it was quite good. Â The bread is good, certainly better than Subway, and the meat is decent enough. Â When I have a chance to try more of their options I'll try to write an update.
I would probably give it four stars if it was bigger (finding a table during lunchtime can be tough) and more convenient to Ft Belvoir (they do have a location on post, but it doesn't seem to serve the full menu).
So glad I don't live in Springfield because if I did...man I wouldn't know what to do with myself. Their version of a chicken cheese steak sandwiches were PURE heaven! The marinated mushrooms...ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! The staff were so sweet, cute, and kind. If I'm ever in the area - I will stop by!
Review Source:Great friendly service, tasty food at decent prices. This place so totally rocks!!!! Â I started this review a while ago, I've been to Bozzelli's a lot since then and I've just been more and more impressed. Â The Service is always awesome, the food is always outstanding. Â they've added breakfast since then and that is amazing as well.
Review Source:I was really excited to find a deli that claimed they could make a hot pastrami sandwich.  That is, until I took my first bite and realized that the meat was NOT NOT NOT pastrami! It had  no flavor and it CERTAINLY did not have the texture that pastrami does... I even called the restaurant  to confirm that they had, in fact, used pastrami and not corned beef. They gave me the line abt the two meats being 'very close' but, I've been eating pastrami for the past 3 decades and this AIN'T it!
I even asked the phone person whether it was 'real' and he assured me that, oh YES: it W-A-S... If that's their version of 'real' I'd hate to taste the fake stuff!
A very very disappointing visiting indeed!
I was excited to try this out after reading so many reviews. Touted as "The Italian Store of Springfield" and the average 4 plus star review of Bozellis was reason enough to check it out and have such high expectations. Â
I went this past weeknd and got the large turkey and cheese all the way minus the mayo. Â My first impressions of the sub were pretty good. Â Sandwhich was big and looked fresh. Â After opening it up I was dissapointed as they skimped out on the hot pepper topping, which looked like red relish and serious was a dab in the middle of the sandwhich. Â They also skimped out on the cheese, 2 peices on this what had to be a foot long. Â Meh.
I dont' know if they make their bread or not but I wasn't impressed. Â I half wonder if they just buy it from the local Costco. Â It was an unimpressive soft roll. Â It would be a lot better if it was on a hard roll or at least toasted. Â The one thing the sandwhich had going for it was the turkey. Â They gave a decent amount but I would have preferred more. Â But it was tasty and probably the only thing close to being on par with the Italian Store. Â
Overall Bozelli's was a huge let down for me. Â I much prefer Italian Store which is still worth the far drive. Â I give this place a 2, for now.
They make a great sub, pretty much the bottom line. Â I'd like to call it a hoagie, but they cut the bread wrong. Â A hoagie involves slicing the bread maybe 90% of the way through so you have a fold that allows you to stuff the sandwich. Â A sub involves a 100% cut through, which is what this place offers.
Meat is high quality, vegetables are fresh, drink selection is good (beyond the fountain drinks) and they routinely offer free samples of food and drinks.
Price is a tad bit higher than Subway, but it is justified considering the food is better quality. Â This is the best meat-on-bread (what I call a hoagie, what others call sub or the sort) I've had in this area.
Ah, Bozzelli's.. We meet again. I once knew you when you were on RT 1 in Lorton but was too young to be a regular, but ate there once in a while. This is my first visit to the new location which i understand has been there for quite some time, I guess i just never made it back over.
After reading all the reviews on here, I decided to pay Bozzelli's a visit and give their Pepperoni Steak and Cheese a try. WOW! Thats the first thought that uttered from my mind as i sat in this nice, welcoming establishment. Within my first bite it was as if i got kicked right in the face similar to Vitor Belfort's run in with Anderson Silva this past weekend on the UFC PPV.
Seriously. I don't recall ever eating a sub or any sandwich for that matter that just commanded my attention in the middle of the first bite. Sure we've all had those great sanwiches that we remember for a long time to come, but this one...this one was different. We get a ringside seat at what happens when you mix an Italian style sub in with a traditional Steak and Cheese.
All of the pertinent key players are involved here with the appropriate toppings, seasonings, spices, etc for the Italian side and all the great meat you learn to love on a Steak and Cheese. Whats the X factor? Its the pepperoni. The combination of well proportioned Steak/Pepperoni ratio will do crazy things to your sense of taste. My first thought of Pepperoni with Steak and Cheese was WTF? Bozelli's answered that pre-conceived notion with a sandwich that i won't only remember for a long time to come, but a sandwich that i will feel more comfortable with dropping 10 bucks on. Get the large. You won't be sorry. More than enough to fill you up. If you even remotely love italian subs and/or steak and cheese and you haven't dove in to this incredible creation, you should be thrown in jail!
And to the sub, you greasy, flavorful, meaty, epic, son of a b***h... we shall meet again! Â BRING IT!
Oh. My. Gawd. I was so not expecting this level of complete deliciosity when I went here. Got the Groupon and had to pick up a package at UPS across the street, so decided to eat dinner on the way. The server, finding out it was our first time, gave us complementary peppers stuffed with prosciutto. Everything from the Reuben to the muffalatta to the sweet potato fries to the red velvet cheesecake were a complete taste of heaven in my mouth. We will be going again. And again. And again.
Review Source:The Springfield suburbs answer to the Italian Store. Â The subs here are delicious and enormous - the 12" bears no resemblance to the kind of footlong you'd find at a lesser sandwich shop. Â Packed with a ton of meat, nice soft roll, highly recommended. Â Especilaly love the Cuban, Pastrami and Turkey & Ham. Â Also great steak fries, which are surprisingly hard to find around here. Â
Three other things: in my experience service has always exceptionally friendly. Â The pizza, which acceptable, is a little on the greasy side and not something I'd make a special trip for. Â Finally, the fact that they are closed on Sundays, which laudable, has been the source of sadness for me during many NFL games.
Four words: Pepperoni Steak and Cheese. There's no need to try anything else here (not because the other food is bad, but this sandwich is amazing!).
I was introduced to Bozelli's by my dad about ten years ago when they were still located off of route one in Lorton. They have since moved to a shopping center, but the quality of that sub hasn't changed.
They pile the meat thick- just like it should be. The pepperoni is firm and full of flavor, and the steak is tender- not chewy! If you wait more than 30 seconds to eat the sub after they deliver it to you, it becomes a melty blob of meat, cheese, peppers, and grease. Please understand that this is a good thing. One bite and you'll be hooked!
The family there is also very nice. The young girl at the cash register is always enjoyable to talk to.
I highly recommend Bozzeli's!
Amazing food... LOVE IT. Â
From their "Original" Pepperoni Steak and Cheese and the Turkey Club to their fresh-made lemonade, cakes, and other assorted deserts - everything here tastes great. Â I eat here at least once a week for lunch. Â My favorite is the Turkey Club sandwich - the best I've had in DC. Â I can't tell if it's the fresh lettuce and tomatoes, amazing bread, delicious turkey, or the love that goes into preparing each sandiwch, but the Turkey club is DELICIOUS.
The Deli is run by a delightful brother and sister that pride themselves on carrying on the family tradition of great food, great prices, and great service.
The deli has daily specials that include homemade spaghetti and lasagna -yumm.  Their pizzas are also delicious.  Note: My  coworkers recommend not getting the largest size for pizzas that contain a lot of vegetables as the center tends to get mushy from veggie moisture.
Do yourself a favor and check out Bozzelli's!
So the 2nd time around wasn't the same orgasmic explosion of deliciousness I had the first time. I think I got the steak sandwich. It was just ok. My sandwich was soggy but that could be due to the fact we got it to go instead of eating there.
I do remember the pastrami sandwich being messy but still really good. I guess I need to try it a third time to make sure the first wasn't just a fluke.
Still good but recommend eating there so your sandwich isn't a soggy mess by the time you get back to your desk.
Gotta say, really upset that I missed out on this place for 5 years before going in. As a Philly transplant I have become skeptical of all places that purport to be an Italian Deli and sell cheesesteaks and pizza. Fear not, Bozelli's is the real deal! Their take on what it is to be an Italian Deli is different than Taylor's or the Italian Store and that's what make them great. They do their sandwiches their way, and their takes on the hoagie, cheeseteak, and other classic deli and pizza joint items knock the ball out of the park. Â (Sweet Potato Fries also Awesome)
The first key point is their rolls, slightly toasted they give the sandwiches an authentic north east flavor. Â As anyone here in northern VA will tell you bread is the biggest hassle and if you get that right you got half the battle won.
As for the meat and cheeses, everything is super fresh and super authentic. Â This is a family business and attention is paid to everything you get. Â I have to say I'm a big fan of their peperoni steak and cheese (It's a cheesesteak guys - typing steak and cheese hurts my brain!) as well as their roast beef and cubano. Â Just great stuff. Â
For those looking for that streetcorner deli feel from up north, Bozzelli's is the place to go, and go often.
The best deli sandwiches your mouth will ever have. EVER! This is where you want to cater sandwiches from for a big party - there's no way anyone can be disappointed. I don't know what it is but something about these sandwiches are just so yum. Maybe it's their bread - super soft but holds that roast beef together and smells so good. Mmmm good smelling and good tasting bread. All the toppings (lettuce, onions, etc.) all taste super fresh, nothing is ever soggy, wet, or moldy.
Service is always friendly and I love that they are patient with me while I take forever and a day to decide what I want (even though it's almost always the roast beef.) I feel like it takes them a little too long to make a sandwich but it is most definitely worth the wait.
I love this place. Â My usual go to is their Seafood Salad Sub with Hot peppers. Â Today I got out of my box and ordered something different. Â "the Original" steak pepperoni and cheese with Italian dressing and mayo. Â
Beautiful! Â
The sandwiches are great and the staff is very friendly. Â I like that on top of home made sandwiches they also have other treats like potato and macaroni salad great looking desserts and pickled garlic! Â This is definitely the best sandwich shop in Springfield.
Outstanding -  and part of the burgeoning SRS  - Springfield Restaurant Scene.  We're up to 2 great places now (see:  El Paso).  Move over U Street!  (Damn, the first rule of SRS is don't talk about  SRS - now I'm screwed)
But seriously, the Italian Sandwiches are fantastic (the kids call them "subs" I believe) and the pizza is very underrated. Â I don't want to overstate how good the Hot Pastrami Sandwich is, but during the meal I asked the sandwich where it went to school, if we could hang out after our meal, and if we could get an apartment together when this is all over. Â I then apologized for coming on too strong and the sandwich asked if we could just be friends.
Not too hard to find, just follow the wonderfully named Backlick Rd. Â Yes, Backlick. Â Now you'll have that word in your head all day. Â You're welcome!
FOOD: Â An excellent alternative to Subway in the area. Â Their sandwiches are very good. Â I usually get the prosciutto or pastrami. Â Their lasagna is a good size portion, maybe not for lunch since all that carbs will put you in a food coma. Â
They also have fruit punch, iced tea and lemonade with some fresh fruit in it. Â Where else has that around here?
DECOR: Â Simple and with an easy to read menu.
SERVICE: Â Fairly quick for made to order sandwiches.
COST: Â A little higher than Subways, but well worth it in quality.
I wish there is a way to give it 3.5 stars. Â Limited by Yelp's rating capability, I'm giving it a 3 star, but it's really 3.5 in my grading system. Â My co-workers give it two thumbs up. Â
I tried their Wednesday special of Lasagna which comes with a side of salad and garlic bread for $8.39 including tax. Â The lasagna is fairly large. Â It completely fills up the standard square styrofoam container (7x7 in?). Â
The side salad is chopped/shredded with ranch dressing on the top. Â I like the shredded texture. Â Their dressing is tasty. Â Considering that majority of the restaurants do not wash their lettuce, I'm led to believe that this place actually washes their lettuce because there was a collection of very watered down dressing on the bottom of the container when I was done with the salad. Â The dressing that was poured on top of the salad was not watered down. Â Â
The lasagna is not as sweet as those frozen ones I'm used to. Â The meat sauce is on the tasty side, but I wouldn't give it two thumbs up. Â The pasta portion of the lasagna was too soggy and soft for my taste. Â
Garlic bread was more buttery than garlicky, but still good. Â
I'm eager to try out their cold subs next time.
This place was a welcome find, after suffering trough the same Korean, Chinese, Subway and other standard lunch fare. Â
You can get a "real" italian cold cut sandwich here, with raw onions and hot peppers. Â This is a sandwich that changed a tough week at work to something much better.
It looks like Grandma is still working with her boys to make homemade sweets for the bakery case out front including tiramisu, sweet italian breads etc.
They also do catering.
i am surprised, but perhaps i shouldn't be, that i am the first person (because it's in the middle of nowhere ville) to review this joint. this is a nice little pseudo italian american deli in the wasteland of springfield va. they have pretty (darn) good subs and pizza and fries that are seasoned, well.... just right. they have some GIANT sized drinks of i-don't-know-whats (because i've never tried them) of the color of red, yellow, and beige. yes, they do have salads.... some are quiet large. if you are around this way around lunchtime, then do come in - it's a lot better than chain crap.
oh yes - they have 2 lines when you come in.... one to order and one to pay (and pick up orders). just follow the signs, take a number and things will be allright.
