We went back on a Friday night and the service was excellent. Â Everything else stand from my previous post, food is still good and a nice place to go. Â Their menu changed since the last time, so keep that in mind, my girlfriend was looking forward to the pasta she had last time but she equally enjoyed her pasta this time.
Review Source:really really good! Â the service there was great, and for brunch spot it wasn't overly crowded with drunk/hungover college kids. Â i enjoyed my brunch surrounded by families. Â the beatty eggs benedict was amazing! Â imagine a traditional eggs benedict. Â ok... this was a southern remake of the classic brunch item. Â jalapeno corn biscuits supported the pillar of smothered bbq pulled pork and poached egg. Â the whole thing was then anointed with a creamy hollandaise sauce. Â coupled with rosemary potatoes.. this dish was superb! Â i would definitely go back!
Review Source:Broadway Cellars features white linen tablecloth service without being too formal or stuffy. Â They are great for brunch on the weekend or dinner any night of the week (try the pork chop in a light mustard sauce...excellent!). Â Their wine list is also top notch. Â I once hosted a surprise birthday brunch there and the staff and owner couldn't have been more accommodating. Â This is a wonderful alternative to going downtown for dinner.
Review Source:I've been going here for years, I have had some great meal experiences, but also some very disappointing ones. This is def the kind of place that has off days where the food and service is bad. I will say the food and service was much better when they first opened.
FOOD: I've eaten here enough where I know what to order, and most of the food is tasty. The Broadway Chopped Salad is absolutely delicious. Probably my favorite dish. I've had some good wine selections also. Usually they let us taste a couple to see what we like before we choose a bottle to purchase with dinner, which is helpful. The Pork Chops and the Salmon were both just ok for me, not flavorful enough in my opinion. As for the burgers, I've had the Egg Harbor and the Broadway Burger, both are pretty decent. A safe choice if you don't know what to order. The Linguini Al Pollo was ok, nothing to write home about. I'm not really a fan of the actual dinner entrees, they usually sound better than they taste and end up tasting a little flavorless. For the soup of the day I had the Broccoli Cheddar, which I usually love, but actually wasn't good at all. would never order that again...
I've tried a couple of appetizers, I usually choose a salad, the Flatbreads were pretty good also... As for drinks, I'd stick to the wine, or mimosas for brunch, the other drinks I had were watered down and unimpressive, especially during deals and specials.
As for the brunch, bottomless mimosas can't be beat... Athough once your server realizes you're close to finishing your meal you have to stalk them to get refills... I've had the Broadway French Toast with caramelized bananas, which was delicious, and the Broadway Breakfast, which is pretty much a sampler with breakfast meats, eggs and potatoes, which was also good.
Food wise, brunch is probably the best selection, but it's always extremely crowded....
And one other thing is that often they remove things from the menu which are gone permanently, which is unfortunate because they've had some really good things that have basically been discontinued , like the Mango
Ceviche with Tortilla Chips and Sriracha Wings....
PRICES: Most are reasonable and they have some pretty good deals, only really gets pricey when you get to the dinner entrees, about 20 a plate, which I usually skip....
ATMOSPHERE: Although it can be crowded depending on the night, usually a perfect ambiance, dim lighting and soft music, great for dates and get togethers with friends on a non busy night.... the best time to go is during the week right when they open, around 5, before the crowd comes....
SERVICE: this is where they fail and it goes downhill. The waiters are usually very nice and helpful with meal and wine selections, IF there aren't a lot of people there, but if so, both the hosts and waiters tend to be extremely rude, unhelpful, and non-accommodating... they definitely seem frustrated and flustered, and down right confused when the restaurant gets a little busy.... I've walked out before and eaten elsewhere because of this....
I've also noticed that sometimes hosts and servers have friends dining while they are working, so they give them so much attention they almost seem irritated when working and serving other tables...
I had one host give me and my friends a ridiculous amount of attitude and disdain, because we came without a reservation, like she didn't even want to seat us at all... Our waiter took half an hour to take our orders, our drinks didn't come until we got our meals, and then got our dinner orders wrong.... They work terribly when they have a crowd, and their customer service becomes non-existent...
Over-all, tasty food, love the atmosphere, but DO NOT EAT HERE IF IT IS EVEN SOMEWHAT BUSY, otherwise you will be disappointed....
I have been here twice and it was very good. Â I ordered the fish tacos which are a special they have in the summer and it was great. Â The second time I got the salmon which was also good. Â The first time we went the service was not so good. Â We were sitting there forever and wanted to order more drinks but the server never even came back once. Â The second time however the server was great. Â I like eating outside more in the summer time, however the inside was nice too, it was just lots of older people. Â I will definitely go back but most likely when I can eat outside. Â This is a great place in the neighborhood, I like it because I can walk there from my apartment. Â It's a great place to go on a date and has a wonderful wine list.
Review Source:my love of bottomless mimosas brought me here and I was not disappointed. I ordered the crab cakes which were really good, and like my girl sharee said the sauce is the bomb, i hate eggs and they were cool about letting me substitute things for the eggs one time i went with double potatoes the next time i went with a bagel and cream cheese. now back to the sauce. i put it on the crab cakes and the potatoes. great place for a lazy day drinking brunch, i love it!
Review Source:Only reason this is a 4 star review is that service, while friendly, was pretty darn slow. The service was easily forgotten as I began to drink my bottomless mimosas, three, four, five mimosas (only $10!) and once our food finally arrived! My friends and I went family-style on our brunch so we could try a bunch of things. We had the crabcake benedict, the salmon benedict and the banana caramel french toast. It all was soooo good. The decor is a little kitschy and I like it. I would definitely come back for bottomless mimosas, bloody Mary's or better yet both ($15 bottomless combo) or for dinner.
Review Source:Came here as a fall-back when the place we planned to go to was closed, and I couldn't have been happier. As a veggie, I'm always a bit skeptical of pub-type menus, but was plesantly surprised with so many yummy sounding things to try. The fruit/yogurt/granola bowl was a nice size and very fresh; the salads all looked great and the quiche of the day (goat cheese, roasted red pepper and something else) sounded perfect... too bad I wasn't in the mood for something that heavy, or the granola would have been passed over in a heartbeat! Prices totally reasonable, server couldn't have been nicer. We were there early afternoon on a Saturday and it was almost empty; given the location it probably picks up closer to drinks and dinner hour.
Review Source:Broadway Cellars is one of the places I point to when I try and explain to my small(er)-town relatives that you can forge connections with people in the Big City. My husband & I started coming to BC ages ago for their great Thursday night fixed price menu deal; now we come every week (yes, I said 'every') for the food and the company. Sit at one of Anthony's tables if you can & he'll take great care of you, or sit at the bar and Amber or Leo will whip you up a tasty beverage to go with the conversation of the night. Oh, and the food is great too - the mussels are a great starter, the trout salad is my go-to for a light meal (get it w/ avocado) and both the salmon and the honey brined pork chop are consistently stellar entrees.
Broadway Cellars is a great neighborhood gem, so get in here! I'll be sitting at the bar...
My review is based only on having dined here for brunch, but I have visited this place numerous times over the last couple of years. The food is generally quite scrumptious, however the consistency of the quality of said food (temperature, baking level, etc.) can be somewhat erratic. Generally you are almost guaranteed a very tasty meal. I highly recommend the salmon bennie, the breakfast pasta carbonara, and always get a side order of their fabulous bacon. The bottomless mimosa deal can't be beat.
Some Sundays the wait can be extensive around noon or so, and other times you can walk right in without any problem. It's best to call ahead if you have a large group.
Broadway Cellars is consistent, affordable and one of the friendliest spots in Edgewater. Â The service has been terrific year after year and BC is very lucky to have Amber, Anthony and Leo; they are absolutely fantastic. Â The food is also quite good and the owners and folks in the kitchen are passionate about food. Â Go Thursday night for the fixed price menu and order the wine pairings. Â It's one of the best deals around.
Review Source:I was here on Sunday for a social brunch with a client of mine and his partner, and my cousin joined us as well. We had a really lovely time! I arrived before everyone else and the hostess took my coat for me as I sunk on the comfy couch to wait. When I inquired about the bottomless mimosas, the hostess offered to bring me one while I waited! VERY nice touch.
This restaurant is charming and classy without being stuffy, and reasonably priced. I had the special corned beef hash, which I liked but didn't love. (underseasoned and the meat was at times too fatty) My companions had the pear and gorgonzola quiche (good, but also lacking flavor) the steak and eggs and salmon benny. Noone RAVED, but everyone did genuinely like their dish.
Service was great- our waiter was really good about letting us linger a little (we came toward the end of the brunch rush, so I made sure we weren't squatting) and coming by to refill mimosas. There was one kind of annoying glitch- in an attempt to circumvent any awkwardness, (I was not expensing brunch- this was social in nature) and since I had arrived first, I asked the hostess to tell our waiter to pre-split our check into 2- one for me and cousin, one for client and partner. Great. At the end of the meal then, he came over and crouched down in between me and the client, and then proceeded to REALLY overexplain the split he did. Completely defeated the purpose. 1) I was trying to eliminate any potential awkwardness, and 2) I thought it would be seamless, rather than interrupting conversation to explain how to split the bill.
But, no. We went through his big rigamarole to do... "Ok, well, since you asked to have it split, then I wanted to make sure I did it right, I put this on this, .......etc) Which is exactly the scene I was trying to avoid. Its a 4 top table, split in 2. It was pretty cut and dry. Ugggggggghhhhh....I'm just glad that my client is super cool and didn't bat an eye.
So much for that idea. In either case, I will be back. Interesting menu choices, reasonably priced, totally homey decor, friendly people and in my hood!
One star for FOOD and One star for SERVICE. Â We were there this evening with a table of six and this was the worst restaurant experience I have had in long time. Â We arrived at 6:30PM and sat at the bar for a drink waiting for the rest of our party to arrive. Â The hostess with the long braid was completely weird and didn't know what to do with us without a reservation...there is a coat rack in the front that greets you which isn't very inviting and it was very hot in the restaurant.
When we all got seated, it took our waiter forever to come over and offer the rest of the party a drink. Â The appetizers were good - a mix of the fried green tomatoes, mussels and calamari. Â The food is WAY OVER priced for what you get -- spaghetti and meatballs $16.00 and goes up from there just for pasta. Â That should be the cheapest thing on the menu! Â The 8 ounce filets come in two 4 ounce pieces for $19.00 which they might as well call "meatballs" on top of mushroom risotto and a demigaze since there is nothing "filet" aboout it - OVERCOOKED! Â (sent back twice!) Â The final "steak" came to the table after everyone else was done eating and they didn't apologize, didn't comp a meal or even a drink! Â The half chicken on top of potatoes and brussel sprouts was done pretty well for $17. Â The chicken pot pie is basiically two puff pastries on top of chicken stew. Â Charging downtown prices for medicore quality at best.
Upon checkout, our waiter couldn't figure out how to split the bill in thirds and we waited 25 minutes for him to figure it out!
Now for the topper! Â BOTH BATHROOMS were OUT OF SERVICE. Â Water spilling all over the floor and "out of service" signs on both the womens and mens bathrooms. Â We were there waiting to get out of there after 3 hours of delays of poor service and couldn't even use the bathroom (for which I will call the City of Chicago tomorrow to report!) Â $200 bill for a table of 6 with horrible service, no apologies, and bathrooms that didn't work.....UNACCEPTABLE!
We were so upset when we left, we might as well stayed at home. Â We decided to go out and meet some friends so we didn't have to stay inside, but the stress would have been less and we would have saved some money had we not gone to Broadway Cellars at all! Â WE WILL NEVER GO BACK and I would recommend you STAY AWAY!
Last night we were at a Lettuce Entertain You restaruant (L. Woods in Licnolnwood) and spent the same amount of money and came back with phenomenal service and food with a memorable experience so I know Broadway Cellars went wrong tonight and didn't even apologize.
Nice place for early Sunday brunch. We got a table immediately at 10:30, but the place filled up in no time. It appeared that the competent staff easily accommodated several large (6+) groups. Highly recommend the Quiche du Jour -- very generous serving. I appreciate that the richest dishes on the menu are complimented by a lightly dressed salad (e.g. quiche and Salmon Benny). I didn't have to take a carb-induced nap afterward.
House-made apple cider served warm. On a crisp winter day, I recommend trying it w/ apple brandy;) Our table didn't try the bottomless mimosas this time, but many other diners seemed to enjoy theirs.
Good mellow morning-blend coffee, but not a strong roast. I appreciate the coffee carafe on the table, which was refilled twice during our meal. That small detail made our meal all the more relaxed.
Decor is warm and inviting. Lots of exposed brick. Bathrooms are cute and clean. The hand lotion adds a nice touch.
Overall, brunch was good. Service was excellent. Our server, Wade, was very professional, attentive and friendly.
Must have been a really off day for Broadway Cellars because it seems like most reviews are high for this place.
Granted, Sunday is the day everyone wants to go out for brunch. There will be waiting  at most places. My friends and I patiently waited for an hour, standing.
Once we got seated the server disappeared, no coffee or drinks. It took her 15 minutes to take order for coffee and drinks. Took about 10 minutes for coffee to come and she said they were out of cream. Then she disappeared again for a good 15 minutes. When we ordered, we were told they were out of the wedge potatoes, so we could get fries with our eggs. She said they would not charge extra. I thought that was odd...It shouldn't even be a question.
It took forever to get the food. Maybe 45 minutes? There was no refill on coffee or the bottomless mimosas. After cumbersome flagging, I was able to get one of the bus person to refill my coffee.
The food came out and there was no silverware. I was very hungry by now. My friends got their dishes, mine was nowhere in sight. Then it comes out but it's the wrong thing. They took it back, then replaced it with the right one. Everyone's food was cold. The eggs were cold and congealed, the fries were cold. But I was so hungry that I ended up eating it. We have mentioned this to the server (tried to be nice about it) she comped our drinks, but was kind of put out by the whole thing.
Seriously, how many things can go wrong with a brunch?
Unbelievable dinner from end to end. Started at the bar with some specialty cocktails, all great. I had the AJs Orange Crush, sweet but not cloying.
Matt was our server and he was a delight. Personable and funny, just a great guy with all the tools. Â He had the entire group laughing the whole time. Â
We all ordered off the prix fix menu with wine pairings. Â I had the Scallops w Spinach and olive/bacon tapenade. Main course Meatloaf infused with bleu cheese, mashed potatoes and green beans. Fresh, delicious, fun. EXCELLENT. Â
Desert consisted of the only carrot cake in my life I've truly enjoyed. I don't like carrot cake really, but you could tell this was made with love. Oh, didn't like beets before tonight either.....ya, I like em now (at this place at least). I haven't even mentioned the wine pairings.....spectacular!
Highly recommend and we will be back. For reference, it was an early dinner (430-6p ish).
If I could give SIX stars, this would be the place. Â Thanks for a great evening Broadway Cellars.
Cheers!
Came here for dinner with the wife before a show at the armory across the street on Thursday night. Â Had the fixed price menu with the wine pairing.
The crab cake appetizer was ok, but nothing special. Â The bourbon-glazed salmon entree, however, was Fantastic! Â Also enjoyed the gelato for dessert. Â The wine pairings for each course were perfect, and a real bargain at just $3 per.
Our waiter was knowledgeable, professional, and courteous. Â The atmosphere was casual, warm, and inviting. Â By the time we left the place was packed but we were still able to enjoy our conversation with the couple at the next table.
Had one snag when a runner brought me my wife's gelato before she had finished her salmon. Â I gave it to her when she finished moments later, but then had to ask for my own. Â The waiter resolved this quickly and with no fuss.
The food, the staff, the atmosphere, and the price will have us back!
What better way to spend a summertime, non-football Sunday than with bottomless mimosas? Well, you can add a breakfast pasta carbonara, or French toast with caramelized bananas and rum caramel syrup, to make it a real adventure. I should really wait until I'm closer to the weekend to write these reviews, because the idea of their brunch offerings is making me drool at my desk. Not exactly professional.
You know who is a professional? Our server, Amber is always completely on top of her game, slinging mimosas left and right to a busy patio. (Note to ownership: bigger glasses would mean less running around for your staff. The ones you have now are teeny weeny!) Even when one moronic couple flipped over their entire table (seriously, who ties an Alaskan malamute to a flimsy patio table leg?), Amber didn't skip a beat. She's great, and I always hope to be seated in her section when I visit.
I do have to ding some points for the hostess, a very snippy older woman whom I've encountered a few times. One Sunday I made reservations ahead of time with a note that we'd like to sit on the patio if possible. When we arrived, the patio was opened and seated with two tables, yet the hostess made an audible fuss about seating us there. And yes, I saw that eye roll, too. My friend and I are former industry, so we know how seating works; if it was an issue, she could have said something (politely) and we would have understood. But the attitude is neither warranted nor appreciated. Â
That issue aside, I'm happy to continue giving Broadway Cellars my business, especially with such competent servers and a delicious brunch selection.
To be completely upfront, I have deducted a star because they ran out of food. I looked at the menu the day before and was 100% committed to the biscuits and gravy. As I rode my bike there I was thinking about the biscuits and gravy, drooling ever so slightly in anticipation. Much to my chagrin, when I ordered the biscuits and gravy I was informed that they were out of them. UGH.
Alrighty, I took a look at the menu and decided to go with the Grump Benedict. Partially because I was feeling grumpy and partially because I like crab cakes. After I placed my order, the server came out to inform my friends that they only had enough of the Buen Dia for one of them (they both ordered it.) Apparently they ran out of chorizo.
I will give them credit for not charging one of them for their food because of the issue, so that was super nice. It just stinks a little when you have something specific in mind and it's not available.
That being said, the Grump Benedict was fairly tasty. It was the first time I have eaten both benedicts and not been full. This is because it wasn't on an English muffin, only the poached egg over crab cake, which was perfect for me. The sauce was supposed to be a shrimp hollandaise, but it tasted like any other hollandaise I've ever had. Maybe they ran out of shrimp too...
The Broadway potatoes were average - some pieces were a bit overcooked, others undercooked.
Overall it was a decent enough place, but it didn't knock my socks off. There are a ton of great brunch spots around, so I can't say I am itching to go back any time soon. Unless I wanted to get the bottomless mimosas or Bloody Mary's, which I wouldn't, because I don't drink either.
This place is just okay. Â I live down the block and that is the reason that I've been there twice, but each time was mediocre and if you don't live in the area, I wouldn't suggest traveling out of your neighborhood. Â
The wine list is surprisingly small for a wine bar and the selection is nothing to be wowed by. Â The staff is not knowledgeable; each time I was there they could not recommend a wine based on our description and had to study for menu each time (two different waiters). Â
They are also ALWAYS out of at least one bottle on wine that is on the menu. Â We went one Sunday and they were literally out of half of the menu. Â Why give us the menu, then? Â The staff also not really friendly and rather on the cold side; they rarely smile are truly disinterested in the fact that you are sitting in their section. Â
I probably won't be back for a third ti, which is unfortunate given its great location in Edgewater.
I came here for dinner tonight with my dad. He's a big wine fan and so am I. We were impressed. The guests look like regulars and it was halfway full for a Saturday night at 7 pm. Not bad.
The bread and olive oil with parmesean cheese they put on the table is delicious and fresh.
We ordered our wine... I had abarino. Their wine prices are very fairly priced and pretty extensive list.
Then onto our entrees. I had the linguine frutti di mare. MmMmMm it was so good! I love seafood and the shrimps, mussels and calamari were cooked perfectly and there was such a great combination of brandy sauce and noodles. I could only eat half of it so hello lunch tomorrow!
Only thing is the ambiance is really lacking. The bar looked pretty cool when you first walked in but no one was sitting there. The dining room left little to the imagination. The bathroom was appalling... boxes lying around.
Then there was the music. Why is Alex Chilton by the Replacements playing at a nice Italian and wine restaurant? For dinner at that! I mean, I like the song but it was really weird. The lighting was off too.
I know I'm being nitpicky now so all around it's good food for a pretty good price considering the quality and quantity and the wine is equally excellent.
I absolutely adore this place! Â My friend made reservations for Sunday at 12:30pm and we were able to have a table even though our 4th person was running late.
During that time, we all indulged in unlimited mimosas ($10) or unlimited bloody marys ($10).
Our friend was late by 30 minutes and during that time the mimosas and bloody marys flood freely as the waitstaff was super attentive. Â They made sure our glasses didn't stay empty for 5 minutes which can be trouble for someone like me who had about 3 mimosas within that time span that I had to get some coffee to slow myself down.
Anyway, they have a whole range of brunch and lunch specials ranging from the typical eggs benedict, breakfast burritos to pulled pork sandwiches and fettuccine carbornara.
I was really craving fettuccine carbornara and on top of that french fries with mayo. Â My friend ordered the french fries and mayo and we split that plate while I indulged in my pasta dish.
Overall, the experience was great and would definitely come back for the bottomless mimosas again!
The food here is delicious! Â I love the atmosphere of the restaurant. Â It was a top contender in my list of favorite brunch places here in the city.
But...
I went there today with a party of five. Â We walked in and were greeted with a smile that was IMMEDIATELY wiped off of her face when she learned that we did not have a reservation. Â It was 1:00, so we assumed the brunch rush would be on the slower end of things, and looking around, there were a lot of tables open. Â Annoyed, she walked around for a few minutes and told us our table would "have to be prepared". Â We sat down on the couch. Â Another group of five walked in and got the same exact reaction, as they had not made a reservation either, and were sat immediately. Â More people came in, a party of two, they were also immediately given a table. Â Sitting down for fifteen minutes on the couch looking at empty table. Â Ummm....ok?
So we finally got seated and the service was just meh. Â My friend is vegetarian, and asked if the carbonara could be made without bacon, and if not, to be served the french toast. Â Well, it was a surprise since the waitress eventually just brought her the vegetarian carbonara without ever answering her question. Â We were basically an afterthought the whole time even though the restaurant was far from being busy (compared to most brunch places in the city that are insanely packed).
I'm getting really sick of restaurants arrogance and ability to survive without being competitive. Â We typically tip 20%, but in this instance we did not.
The food is so good though! Â DAMN IT I AM ABSOLUTELY TORN.
After deciding that such a lovely summer evening deserved dinner on a patio, we strolled into Broadway Cellars...and right back out again.
To the patio of course! Where I chose to sit on a bench, a decision that I was thankfully able to remedy (don't sit on the benches. Those things are UNcomfy).
Excellent beer selection for a place that I had assumed would only have the basics. My burger was absolutely delicious and I am so glad I opted for sweet potato fries (next to my companion's regular ones it was just no contest).
The service was excellent, if a little patchy, but we were one of only two tables on the patio so I forgive. When our server was there, he was lovely. I'll definitely be back for the patio over the summer.
Amazingly poor service...wow. Â Though I do give 5 stars to the bartender for helping me out with my wine. Â You see, I had been given a glass of wine by my server, and the inside of the glass was all red (I was drinking white). Â No, it was not a red glass...it was clear. Â Since our server did not reappear, I had to take matters into my own hands and approach the bar. Â The bartender was super nice, super sweet and was not pleased with the original glass that I had been given. Â She was so apologetic (and folks, I was not being crabby!). Â So, 5 starts for her - she's super.
On to the rest of the meal....
Friends and I visited for a Monday night dinner - who knew they had $5 burgers? Â Well, everyone in the neighborhood apparently...We were quickly seated, but were we seated in no-man's land? Â Perhaps so, because no one came to greet us...at all...for about 30 min. Â We finally flagged down the host who found us a server. Â When she arrived, we said we were ready to order, and she was more than happy to rush us through (no sense of humor... though she did apologize for making us wait...albeit begrudgingly). Â
We mostly all had burgers and they took a while to show up and seemed somewhat like they had started life as a frozen patty and had been reawakened at some point before our meal. They were ok, and cooked appropriately, but were a bit bland. Â The fries...Eh...not very tasty, and mine were very overcooked and at the same time mushy. Â Quite odd...
I also asked for a side of salad dressing which never appeared....that was frustrating....and the one person at the table not having a burger had to wait longer for her food than anyone else...and it was a cold, non-cooked dish. Â Strange.
Our server never reappeared during the meal, and we had to flag her down to order more drinks. Â Then, when we tried to get the check, we almost had to stand up to find her. Â Now, I know it was Monday night and there was a special. Â However, there were a few empty tables, and the other ones that were full were sitting there for a while drinking - not eating, so I would expect they required a bit less attention.
Overall (if it's not already totally obvious), I was very dissatisfied with our service. Â There is no excuse in my book for total indifference to your table. Â The bartender deserves a gold star...otherwise, service is a total miss. Â A 1 (2 because of the bartender who was a 5 personally).
Bathrooms...a 3. Â They were ok, but not updated.
Food...I have to go with a 2. Â The fries were not good, and the burger was totally run of the mill. Â I'm not sure how their regular menu is, but burger Monday would not be drawing me in. Â
Value...I have to go with a 2 as well. Â $5 burgers only go so far when everything is an add-on. Â Also, the regular prices were a bit on the high end considering the options.
Atmosphere...a 2? Maybe...I think that's being generous and it's really only for the bar area. Â The dining room area looks like it came out of a chain restaurant from the 80s. Â The bar area is much cuter. Â
Will I return...perhaps for some wine and to sit at the bar. Â Otherwise, this isn't on my list of spots to seek out regularly.
One of my favorite spots on Chicago. I've been in for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I love the breakfast selections plus the bottomless mimosas are a nice perk.
This review is for dinner. We went here on Tuesday night for our anniversary. It so happened to be half price bottle wine night. Score! Â We tried the calamari for a starter. We also opted for fish n chips and the wild boar pasta. They were all excellent. There is also a guitar player on Tuesday nights.
Well I ended up going to Broadway Cellars after all lol. I always went to Moody's and for some reason never came here but glad I finally did. Very nice place, lofty with brick exposure which is cool. I had their Broadway Burger, I have to admit though it tasted a little like charcoal but I told them it had to be well done and I rather have that then raw bloody meat. I would like to come back for Brunch. On Tuesdays I guess they got Jazz night so I'd like to check that out next time.
Outdoors for Moody's is the best because of their nice beer garden/patio but their indoors part is kinda grimy, Broadway Cellars is a great alternative when the patio is closed down for the winter months.
Absolutely delicious food & great wine selections. The only reason it's 4 not 5 stars is that they (& me) can't seem to decide if they are "fancy" or not. Every time I go, there are people in jeans & t shirts, alongside those who've dressed up for a nice dinner date. It's strange. The prices and atmosphere suggest you should be dressed up a little, but the clientele seem addicted to denim & sneakers.
That said the food is always good and there are always well-priced wine pairings and flights.
This place gets my vote for the bacon alone. I LOVE the bacon. The service is always good. The food is always good.
I generally go for the biscuits with extra gravy, a side or two of bacon, and a mimosa or two...or...whatever. Â :) Â
I have only ever been for the Brunch. Â It's a good place to go on a date or with a group of friends.
This is a lovely brunch and dinner place in the 'hood. Â I've enjoyed their sliders, crab cakes, salads, and wine. Â The dining room and bar area are intimate and the service is always attentive. Â They have daily specials that keep the locals coming back, my favorite of which is $5 Burgers on Mondays. Â The juicy burgers come with the usual toppings and fries on the side, which can be substituted for a salad for no extra cost. On those days a Fat Tire is also $5, which is the perfect complement.
Almost every month there is a wine tasting party. Â Check it out!
I am ecstatic, since I live a few blocks away from Broadway Cellars and walk there whenever my huge heart desires!
I have been swinging by here every several weeks for the past few years. Â Brunch is great. Â Huge, fluffy pancakes, tasty fried breakfast potatoes, yummy egg dishes, etc... Â Also, there are bottomless mimosas and bloody marys. Â How great is that?!? Â Dinner is just as super! Â Crab cakes with huge lumps of fresh crab, fried calamari that is quite flavorful, assortment of cheese, California chicken sandwich, crispy sweet potato fries, fresh pasta, duck lasagna, field green salad with deviled eggs, fresh soup, decadent desserts, daily specials that are oh, so fresh... There are so many items to choose from, I can eat there any day and every day of the week!
Tom and Geri (owners) are extremely welcoming and always like feedback, so they can continue to grow. Â There are daily specials and several events through out the year, such as $20 for 20 wines and buffet (about every 6 weeks), Top Chef night, dinners with wine pairings, and receptions with local artists.
The staff is just as welcoming. Â They have no problem jumping into conversations, but are never overbearing. Â And, if I can't decide on what to eat or drink? Â They always know what to recommend.
This can easily be my second home and love visiting as often as I can.
This review is for dinner only, as I've never brunched at Broadway Cellars. I've had dinner here a few times and I'm always pleasantly surprised by their Specials menu and strong offerings on their regular dinner menu.
I like the convenience of making a last minute Friday 7pm reservation at Open Table through Yelp, but it really isn't needed. BC doesn't get that busy, and has plenty of seating for two or even groups.
The menu is full of appetizing salads, meat entrees, and a few vegetarian options. I've previously enjoyed the Pumpkin Ravioli. This visit I had the Seared Pork chop, served over a sweet dijon mustard sauce, with mashed sweet potatoes and steamed spinach. The pork chop was super tender and juicy, and the mustard sauce was great. I almost had to call 911, though, as the spinach sat on a mountain of cracked black pepper and I almost coughed up a lung eating it. Death by Black Pepper!
My dining partner's skirt steak with chimichurri was excellent! Broadway Cellars has nice flights of wine, and an ample beer menu, making drink pairings easy.
My only ding against this place is it looks so antiquated, and in need of a redecorating! Otherwise, I love the food and drinks, and will be back.
Went back for the Ned Beatty (chipotle pulled pork and poached eggs over jalapeño cornbread with adobo hollandaise) and of course, the $10 unlimited mimosas.
Both were brilliant.
Service is stellar and smiley, and you can even make a brunch reservation via OpenTable. It's already been decided - I'm going back next Sunday and taking public transportation.
When considering value, length of wait (zero with a reservation), quality of food, creativity and service, this is the best brunch in Chicago right now.
GO!
I was in the group with Kristina D.! We had an amazing time. Lionel was friendly, fast, and he managed to keep up with the requests of SIX talking women! The restaurant was quite busy, but we honestly couldn't tell based on our service. Our food came pretty quickly and all 6 of us were served basically at the same time. Kudos!
The food was delicious! I also tried a friend's steak from the steak and eggs and it was amazing! I also tried another friend's apple pancakes and they tasted like apple pie! Yummilicious!
I highly recommend. And definitely spend the $10 and spring for bottomless mimosas/bloody marys. Well worth it!
Looking forward to going back!
