Go here to eat! Â Especially if you want a fantastic burger! Â I had the "Macho" (or "Mucho"?) with jalapenos, guac, cheese, tomatoes...YUM! Â Don't let the building throw you. Â It sits next door to a laundromat, and from the outside looks like a dive. Â Don't pass it by!
This place has great beers (although a chilled glass would have been nice), homemade lemonade, great fried pickles (a small was enough for three people to share as an app) and burgers cooked medium with a great variety of toppings.
The kids' menu is OK, but my picky eater opted for tortillas and queso ($4.99) and a grilled chicken breast (just $3.29 plain).
I would definitely eat here again. Â I only went this time after reviewing different Asheville restaurants. Â I would not have stopped in if I was just in the neighborhood and hungry.
The only reason it lacks a fifth star is the sides. Â Just like another reviewer stated, the potato wedges were burned. Â They were not good. Â The beet slaw, although very light, was fairly bland. Â Maybe another side would have been better.
I really wanted to like this place, as my son and his wife raved about it. I have to say, sadly, that I just don't get it. I ordered the Blackened Blue Burger, and was so very underwhelmed that I was ready to call it quits after the first two bites. I steeled myself and somehow managed to finish the whole burger and comment on how tasty it was just to spare my son's feelings. Â I don't know what kind of sauce they put on that Burger, but it was just plain gross. If there was bleu cheese on it, you could have fooled me. Â
The decor was okay, casual and funky much like Asheville itself. The service was friendly but a bit slow.
I think the problem with this place is that they are attempting to "fancy up" something that doesn't need to be fancied up...the American Burger. Someone needs to tell the cooks that sometimes combining 13 different ingredients doesn't always result in something tasty.
After all that, the bill was $75.00 for 4 burgers, two unimpressive appetizers and four beers. Thats just ridiculous for the quality of the food they serve. Unfortunately I won't be returning.
The Bison Burger is excellent. Pricey for a burger though. Also, sides are limited to potatoes, potatoes, potatoes. Salads are tasty but not very big. Beer is excellent. Music is really loud. Wait-staff is good, always personable.
The one thing that stood out about Burgermeister's is the Ginger Sweet Tea--excellent!
We came to Burgermeister's a week ago while we were in Asheville. Drove by a bunch of times, had no idea it was tucked into the shopping center my mom showed to us. Â It was a casual atmosphere, sit wherever you want. Â
We figured we had to try the burgers, even though the rest of the menu also looked good too. Â The burgers were up to par, pretty delicious. Â We ordered the wedges instead of the fries, and they were pretty well burnt. Â There was so much burger though, that I couldn't eat much of it, and didn't see the point in sending it back 'just because' since we couldn't eat more as it was.
Our server was attentive and friendly. Â Overall we were happy with the service and the food - I wouldn't try the wedges again.
Maybe I'm missing something but I think Burgermeister's burgers are awful. I tried their food for the first time a few months ago. I didn't like it then but thought I'd give it another try before writing a negative review. The burger is dry and has an odd flavor. I like my burgers to taste like a juicy patty of beef but it lacks any flavor whatsoever.
The potato salad and potato wedges are also not very good. I'm all about putting a new spin on potato salad but I just couldn't get into theirs...way too much pepper. The wedges were also dry.
The service is never bad but never great. I won't be back.
yes, it is the best burger in town. its won  the award locally over and over.  I had heard it and heard it...and said...yeah...whatever!  But its true.  There are many types and a great veggie burger. Serves local Bison and local grass fed beef.  So juicy...still thinking about it.
Serves several local beers  too.  Had a Green  Man stout.
Great service. Â Really cool decor with a black light in the entry to the bathrooms. Â Has a nice velvet painting there to "light up" and tons of cool "show" cards from indie rock bands all over the place.
Lots more here than just burgers too. Â The spinach salad was excellent too.
Had a great burger tonight - the meat was tender and cooked just right, the toppings were a blend of good taste and messiness, with a  bun that was soft but not so big it over powered the rest. Love that they offer grain-fed and local meat - and veggie burgers for those that prefer that option. The sides are a delicious twist on old favorites. The staff was friendly and helpful, going out of their way to check on what dressings could  have MSG ( gives my hubby a migraine ). We will be back!
Review Source:Maybe it's because I haven't had fried pickles before, or I haven't had a decent turkey burger in a long while...that this earns its 5 stars. I love the choices here...there is a burger for just about everyone. The kettle chips are made in-house too and they were quite good. We brought my 4.5 year old child and she really enjoyed the fried catfish and she's a very picky eater. This will definitely be a hang-out for us.
Review Source:UPDATE!!! Burgermeister's is totally different inside now! Â It's so cute, they have lighting that is great for a restaurant, no more carpeted floors, less records on the windows, bright blue walls- I am so happy about this change! Â I brought friends who had always wanted to try Burgermeister's and they were impressed too. Â SO MUCH BETTER. Â Thanks for re-doing the place! Â I will definitely go there more often!
Review Source:Fairly greasy, but a great burger selection and delicious sides for a decent price.
My wife and I went here for lunch on a Saturday, so I can't attest to the quality of the bar portion of this place, but the burgers were great. Â I ordered a "DT" which was a good sized beef burger with mozzarella, banana peppers, and horseradish. Â Also came with a side (I chose kettle chips). Â Very tasty and a great portion size. Â Definitely a two-handed burger, and you've got to practically unhinge your jaw to get the whole thing in your mouth. Â The server told me that their double burger is actually twice that size, too, so I can't even imagine trying to choke that down. Â The kettle chips were great, as were the wedges my wife ordered (new potatoes and sweet potatoes roasted with herbs). Â They don't have plain sweet tea, which was a bit sad. Â Instead they have a sweet ginger tea, which is ok, but it's not sweet tea. Â
My one and only complaint is the greasiness of it. Â I know a good burger is supposed to have some fat, but I literally squeezed a 1/4 cup of grease out of this burger to the point where it formed a huge puddle on my plate. Â The upside to this is that for $2 extra, you can make any of their burgers a bison burger, eliminating that problem since bison is so lean. Â So, that's definitely what I'll be doing next time, and there will be a next time, because this was a great burger.
Best burgers in town. I like them because they have your very basics as well as tons of options. The California burger with avocado and sprouts has tomato hummus. I'm not a vegetarian, but I love their veggie options. The prices are a bit more, but you take home leftovers.
Before I give them too many stars, know that the creative toppings make the burgers. Their other options are much better than their burgers.
Tip: Go to Fuddruckers for plain burgers with cheese. Come here for their alternatives.

The caption should say, "Meh. Â I've experienced much better."
Burgerm was fabulous for a while.  We went back recently after not going for a 2-3 months.  The place was redecorated.  I understand that and can't complain at all.  But the food also changed (as did the menu).  There are very few beer selections from local breweries (I'm not deducting stars for that).  My draft beer wasn't  ice cold as it had been in the past and wasn't very carbonated.  The fries that I loved so much changed dramatically.  My guess is that they no longer make them fresh there because there's no more potato skin on them.  They were also either twice fried or left in the oil way too long.  My burger was overcooked.  It wasn't horrible but it wasn't the Burgermeister I fell in love with.
Up until yesterday, I would've taken friends there. Â Unless a local friend reports otherwise, there are better places to go. Â I think this is sad.
**** Â Went back early Jan 2011 and had a beer on tap while waiting and got a burger to go. Â Fries were much better (rah). Â Burger was fine. Â Changing from 2 stars to 3.
I did get an offer from BM to go back for a complimentary meal after I wrote my first review. Â That was lovely to do, so thanks. Â But, I've heard so many bad stories about what is done to food "sent back" or in revenge, that to be safe, I was not going to go back there for a complimentary meal.
Why people rave about this place I'll never know. Â I've given three tries hoping to fall in love with it but alas, it's just not meant to be.
The food is consistently not good. Â We brought a family with us this past weekend and out of 6 people eating--the only thing any one liked was the french fries. Â
Fried catfish tasted like frozen patties and were void of flavor or freshness, one of the hamburgers at our table was hard as a rock and the kids complained about the pizza. Â
Unfortunately, this place just doesn't live up to it's supposed reputation.
I find it interesting that the majority of people who have given this place 5 stars are from out of town, and I am further hypothesizing that they have only eaten here once. The first time I ate here, I absolutely loved it. My chicken sandwich was delicious, as were the fries. But on my return visits when I actually tried the burgers and other entrees, I was seriously disappointed. It is amazing that the burgers, which are topped with so much stuff, are still pretty tasteless... I don't think the quality of beef they use is very high. They make burgers taste watered down, if that is possible. And please don't even consider eating the tacos; the last time I made this mistake, my stomach revolted against me for a good 24 hours. Oh, and the bottled beer is pretty damn overpriced. Still, the chicken sandwich they have on the menu is pretty good, so I'll go back for that because I live in West Asheville. But the next time you want a really great burger, do yourself a favor and go to Usual Suspects. Much better for about the same price.
Review Source:This place is funky! But don't let that deter you. It kind of grows on you after eating there a couple of times. Their hamburgers rule, and I don't know why you'd order anything else, but they have other stuff that sounds good. I just can't bring myself to passing up a burger here. I wish I could try them all. Maybe they should have one burger that is divided into 4 different kind of burgers. I would guess you can't go wrong with any of them. If you're looking for a good burger joint, look no further.
Review Source:We went to check out the DEEP FRIED PICKLES .... we wound up ordering a second order once we polished off the first basket ... they were loved by all .....
Our waiter James was so great ... he was attentive to our every need and even went above a beyond to make a special brownie sundae for my sister 's birthday (a surprise) he came out and sang as well .... he made our visit perfect !!!
the food was crazy good ... everything was so delicious !!
grilled cheese with bacon on sour dough (so cheesy and good), huge burger with potato wedges (potato wedges were covered with rosemary and were so good) ...
next time I am visiting my sister ....I am definitely going to Burgermeisters
Burgermeister's seemed like it'd be a good local burger joint / bar to put in rotation, but since my first visit, it's been losing me a bit.
The interior is usually pretty loud with TV / music / loud children, etc. So it's kinda hard to relax and enjoy your meal sometimes. But that's really not that big of a deal, you get that a lot of places. There are lots of cool old record covers lining the back wall which are fun to look at and the tables are all covered in crazy old 'news of the weird' type ads and articles. The servers are nice enough and don't hover and the people behind the bar are always really nice.
The food is ok. The burgers are big and kinda soggy (which my boyfriend doesn't mind, but isn't for me). They are also made with a juicy onion topping that I usually ask to be left off. The fries and the onion rings are decent and crispy. I wish they'd make smaller portions and charge less.
I also might be biased against the burgers here because I've spent most of my life enjoying the kind of top-notch burgers that can only be made in Texas (beef is one thing they do right).
I really wanted to like this place but got sick twice after eating here (once after handling a suspiciously greasy catsup bottle). Â They REFUSE to toast the hamburger buns, if you ask them to they will lightly toast one side. Â They bring you this hot burger on a cold, white, "take-and-bake" roll. Â I started ordering the burger with toasted sourdough but after feeling ill the second time I decided not to return. Â The beer is okay here but I just feel like their dedication to cleanliness or food quality just isn't here.
Review Source:Burgermeister's RULES!
I had an amazing burger that came with all kinds of delicious, artery-clogging stuff on it, including fried onions and pickles.
They also have really cheap pitchers of PBR (or as our outrageously friendly waitress referred to it--Peebers) and all kinds of tasty appetizers. LOVED IT!
