I had such a great time there, each time better than the last one,the thing about byblos is that the entertainment starts around 10:30 -11:00 and this is a place that you wanna go to if you want have a late night out on a friday or saturday, sunday night.
the food is beyond great, you have to try it,i am personally in love with middle eastern foods and this is the place to go and enjoy the food and the culture.
love it when the singer gets to all the tables and ask where their from and  ask the crowd to welcome the countries.
sum it up this is one my favorite places in westwood and I would love to go there on friday or saturday nights.
the service was always great for my table never had problem with the service.
the reservation was always great for me, but have to know this, they have regular costumers which they show up after 11:30 sometimes I notice they walk in by 12:30  so you  may see reservation signs on some tables and they are empty for the most of the night but trust me they get packed ,this is the middle eastern culture, they eat late dinner and the entertainment goes on till 3 AM in the morning ,alot of people that show up late are middle eastern's and this is how they are used to party.
every-time we went there ,we were all girls and i never once had a problem there, guys bothering us in a rude way or bad manners never.but everyone has a different experience so far mine was always amazing.
and for the hooka lovers you should try the byblos special hooka which is their own secret hooka they won't tell you what the mixture is .it is a  mild hooka so for the ones that love strong hooka's i do not suggest this but for people like me go for it an enjoy the amazing sensation, try their hooka's you will love it.
Our experience at Byblos was a rather interesting one.
The food was very good, as was the service.
What has prompted me to write this review started when I called and asked if a reservation was necessary for Thursday evening. Â I was told it was and requested a 6 PM reservation. Â They told me they did not open until 7 PM. Â There website gives their hours of operation for Thursday as 11am -2am.
We arrived on time to find the restaurant to be completely empty. Â We waited about 5 minutes and finally found someone who came from the kitchen and, he was uncertain as to whether or not they were actually open.
Before we placed our orders we showed our server a voucher we intended to use. Â
The menu stated that "ENTREES ARE SERVED WITH BROILED TOMATOES, PEPPERS, ONION-PARSLEY MIX, RICE, SEASONED PITA AND PICKLED TURNIPS."
I ordered the "BEEF SHAWARMA - MARINATED TOP SIRLOIN STEAK GRILLED AND SERVED WITH ONION MIX, TOMATOES AND TAHINI SAUCE." Â My plate arrived with meat that looked and tasted more like a combination of dark and white meat chicken, a mixed green salad with tomato and tahini. Â NOTHING ELSE ACCOMPANIED MY DINNER.
My hubby ordered the "SHRIMP SCAMPI - 7 JUMBO SHRIMP MARINATED AND SAUTÉED VEGETABLES."  His plate arrived with 6 jumbo marinated shrimp, a mixed green salad with tomato and flavored rice.  NOTHING ELSE ACCOMPANIED HIS DINNER.
The ONLY accompaniment we were served was very good warm pita bread.
We ordered one dessert to share, Kenafeh, but were served two different desserts on the same plate....Kenafeh and Baklawa.... and were charged for both desserts.
Our bill arrived, but no adjustment had been noted for our voucher. Â It took two employees to finally adjust our bill, and they added an 18% gratuity, that was not on our original bill. Â The particular voucher we used specifically noted that it was INCUMBENT UPON THE CUSTOMER TO REMEMBER TO ADD THE TIP ACCORDINGLY.
As stated, the food was very good, but what happened when it came to following their own descriptions on their menu as to what they serve with their entrees? How could they have bungled it so badly?
Arrived Saturday night with my gf just past 10pm for dinner. At the time, not many people were in the restaurant but after a few minutes, a lot more people began trickling in. I was informed that in their culture, dinner is usually served very late. The restaurant had live music and a belly dancer show! :) I wish I had been able to enjoy more of the menu but I recently had braces put on so I am unable to chew most foods so my options were limited. I was able to enjoy most everything that I tried: hummus, mutabbal, mousakka, labneh and feta cheese. I had the kebbeh balls (veggie and beef) and cheese bourag. We had a rice pilaf plate with various meats but I was not able to chew them....it included chicken and beef. My friend loved everything! For dessert, had baclava and something with coconut... the cocktails were POTENT! Would love to return! The food is authentic!
Review Source:Attended a party that had trays of Byblos - hummus, baba ghanouj, beef shawarma, chicken shawarma, pita, olive mix, mousakka, and shanklish salad the food was amazing, definitely five stars. Â Not amazing, was the fact that the food arrived late, and without pita bread or olives and we had to wait another hour before it arrived.
Review Source:We had a private party (sort of) for my sisters 21 birthday and we had 36 people. The food was not amazing but the service and their honesty exceptional!!! They ended dropping my sisters birthday cake and got a replacement that was even better and beautiful and delicious. Â
Also once the bill came we had said there will be 40 people but they actually counted the people as without us requesting they only charge for 36 people. Â They had amazing music, great decoration and we all Had a blast! Â Thank you Byblos
We went to an early dinner on a Friday, around 4:45. We were the only people in the place, so we can't comment on the atmosphere. It was a pretty enough space.
On the other hand, it meant the kitchen was cooking just for us, and boy were we happy. We ordered a whole variety of appetizers rather than entrees, and they ranged from tasty but not spectacular (the cheese-stuffed egg rolls) to fantastic (the hummus with beef shawarma). The shawarma in particular was delicious. High praise also to the pan-fried quail, the yogurt cheese/olive oil/mint dish, and the super-fresh, crispy falafel.
I'll certainly go back next time I'm in Westwood.
...and here I thought Byblos was a Mediterranean thing.
I was fortunate to be invited to a holiday party at Byblos so I made sure to bring an appetite. When I got the table draped with appetizers, my eyes lit up immediately. Anti-oxidant rich salads, tobouli, donut shaped full-of-awfuls (they're really good though), these egg roll-looking things that were fried to just the right crisp...although the main course was not as substantial was one would expect, the chunks of meat on the table made me feel like I was some B.C. merchant pausing his journey for food and mirth.
Regardless of what kind of music you are into, the entertainment was awesome - showgirls, an in-house band and a belly dancer. You sit and eat while they perform choreographed numbers - true king ish. It reminded me of Club Babalu in "I Love Lucy". There really ought to be more spots of this vain in LA.
Byblos is an experience I would definitely recommend to the adventurous and free-spirited.
+great for large groups
+memorable date spot
+friendly services
+excellent side-show entertainment
-parking
-location is not greatest
Byblos on westwood is a true mediteranean expierience. Â The authentic lebanese cuisine is out of this world. Â I ordered the chicken kabab and it was cooked to perfection. Â The chicken was nice and moist and you could tell that the chef put his heart into preparing the meal. Â All of the cold appetisers, hummus, babaganouj, taboule, were all fantastic. Â In addition, the fried cheese and cheese boureg are both must haves. Â My friend had ordered the filet and it was also perfectly cooked. Â The service was impecable and they catered to our every need. Â I cant wait to come back on a thursday, friday,, or saturday night when i can enjoy tjis great food and service with some authentic arabic entertainment. Â THEY HAVE REAL LIVE BELLY DANCERS!!!
Review Source:This place was under construction when we came here with a Groupon for lunch. Â We weren't sure it was open but it was. Â Service was terrific even though we were outside, the waiter kept coming back to make sure everything was okay. Â Food was quite good and we'd definitely go back. Â Street parking, however, may not be that easy to find here.
Review Source:The food was "ok"... I have definitely had better. The atmosphere was a little tense (some place I definitely would not chill at), the DJ they had there that night (I think his name was DJ Nicko and the belly dancer that danced with fire were the only highlights of the night. The manager "Jay" is a stupid idiot who is rude to his customers and his staff (that guy should be FIRED because you don't treat customers with disrespect). I will NEVER step foot in that place again, and I caution EVERYONE to avoid this place.
Review Source:My wife and I went for dinner on Friday night and it felt like we were transported to another world entirely. It was a bit surreal at first- we arrived at 9:30 to a club like atmosphere, but the restaurant was mostly empty. We had a Groupon for the Royal Mezza dinner for two. The waiter was very kind and helpful, though as it got more crowded later, it was hard to get his attention. The entertainment started at 10:00 (though they had told us 9:30 when we called ahead) with live music, that was very good and quite loud. As we were finally ready to leave at 11:30, the waiter said, "You can't leave now, the belly dancer is about to start." Sure enough, she began just after 11:30, so we stayed a bit longer.
Most importantly, the FOOD was absolutely amazing. They brought us tons of different dishes, all of which were delicious. And the quantity of food was stunning, almost overwhelming. We love Middle Eastern and Lebanese food, and I have to say that this was some of the best I've ever had. My highest compliments to the chef.
If you want a very different dining experience that does not feel like a typical restaurant - with incredible food - I highly recommend Byblos.
Under new management, I tried this place out. They offered a free buffet to the employees that work in the building. I'm not going to add a star for the food being free but I should.
Everything had a lot of flavor. I liked the kabob style meat and the donut-shaped falafel. I thought they were both as good as you can get in Westwood at the price (not the free price, the menu price). Â I also felt like the new management was putting a focus on service because the waiters were very attentive as to drinks and plate removal.
Overall a good experience. Â I will go back before raising or lowering the star review so I can see what the business is like during normal circumstances.
Amazing experience. I really appreciated the culture and live entertainment. My favorite moment is when the Belly dancers came out with fire breathing techniques.
The bartender was the best, a little surprised she knew my cocktail. My entree had great depth, height and very comfortable serving size. I ordered Kabobs and pickled  veggies, d*lish.  Manager was easy to find, not over crowded. I will defiantly visit again.
I had their Mezze which is equivalent to our appetizers, but the small plates keep coming and coming. Babganoush (smokey flame grilled eggplant puree), Hummus bi Tahine  (Pureed chickpeas or garbanzos with sesame sauce), Falafel (fried chickpea mash), Taboule (fresh parsley, tomato, onion salad), Cucumber and lettuce Salad, a lightly fried roll stuffed with feta cheese, Torshi (white pickled beet) and cured olives. All the fresh small dishes were tasty and fresh and accompanied with pita bread and/or whole wheat lavash. Â
I wanted to order a Lebanese wine by the glass, but they only sold the bottle for $65. Â I knew I couldn't drink a whole bottle bottle and wasn't sure of its quality either after my disasterous encounter with Georgian wine from the Caucasus. Â So I played it safe and got a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon from Beaulieu Vinyards of California. Â It was rather soft in its tannins & acidity and so it was not the most balanced Cab, but for $6, it was ok. Â
We got there at 7:30 pm and  didn't start really eating until 8:30 pm.  The music didn't start until about 9 pm with a Frank Sinatra song (what the hell).  We thought the belly dancing would start at least by 10 pm, but the band was playing "Bollywood style" Arabian music to disco dance to. Â
We still kept waiting for the belly dancers by ordering a hooka which was my first time. Â We ordered the "69" blend of berry flavours. Â I was amazed how the smoke is made mellow by the water filtration, and the harsh smell of burnt tabacco is attenuated to the point of near undetectability. Â I was now really to see the belly dancers, but as 10:30 pm approached , they were still not in sight. Â I decided to cut my losses and leave our slowly dwindling group for greener pastures. Â
I keep getting the feeling this is the way it must be in Beirut. Â The American concept of time where "time is money" is not the universal standard. Â Perhaps the Lebanese concept is closer to "good things come to those who wait." Â Anyway, I am too American, and by that time, it was time to leave. Â I hope my patient friends who stayed were rewarded by "belly dancing par excellence".
I'm surprised this place is given such praise. Sure, the ambiance is fun, what with the dim colored lights and DJ, and the appetizers are tasty enough (the foul in particular), but the entrees leave a LOT to be desired. The dishes we got were mediocre and seemed commercial; not worth the price at all. We went on a Friday night and were literally the only group there. I would not go back. If you're looking for quality Mediterranean, go to Sunnin down the street.
Review Source:It was our first time at this restaurant with mixed feelings due to few disappointing pervious reviews. Our overall review for Byblos is, FANTASTIC! and we had a blast. The quality and portion of the food was out of this world, great ambiance, Â the staff did an excellent job to welcome and even entertain us while the DJ played Persian, Arabic and house music. The belly dancer also did a great job to add to our pleasure. My compliment to the management team and staff. I wish them bigger success when they open the place for lunch.
Review Source:THE FOOD IS AMAZING!!! I have eaten all over the US, I travel on business frequently and my wife and I LOVE Lebanese food. The food at Byblos is so amazing it will spoil you completely. I can't say enough.
I can say that it was difficult to eat my dinner wihtout making an "MMMMMMMMmmmmm" sounds on every bite. It just seemed like every dish was magic. The ingredients were fresh as could be and portions were generous.
Amgad is an amazing the way he seasons his food its just beyond the beyond. I can't wait to go back again!
Best kept secret in LA for Lebanese. If you have not been here and you like Lebanese and Middle Eastern you have to make it a point to check this place out.
I think this place may be a hit or miss... We went there one night and entered into the darkness of what felt like a club (including some flashy lighting and very loud pre-entertainment music) but looked like a swanky restaurant (see pictures on here or their website). We waited for about five minutes because no staff were around to seat us, but then the owner or manager walked in, asked us what happened, and we said we were not sure if the restaurant was open. He got a staffer from the back who then seated us, previously not realizing they had a customer (no one else was dining yet although it was Friday night at 8pm). We sat in a booth, and they asked us if we were here also for entertainment that night, which would have mandated a fixed menu for I believe $35-$40/person but included watching belly dancers. We said no...
I froze a bit in this heavily air-conditioned venue as we waited patiently for our appetizer: Arayess (seasoned ground beef in pita bread, $6.25). It took a bit longer than expected because they had none premade, but our server graciously explained and apologized and emphasized how fresh it would be. She was not lying, for when we got it, aside from it being a very small portion, it was quite light and flavorful and very, very fresh. We soon got our entrees, the Combo Kabab ($15.95) and the Chicken Provencal ($13.95). The kabab meat was cooked very well and was a reasonable portion for the price. My co-diner was quite pleased. As for the Provencal, I loved the first two bites and then wanted to stop eating. Unfortunately, the dish was what I would consider to be WAAAAAAY oversalted. My co-diner said it was because the lemon accentuated the salt in the dish, so even if they only added a "normal" amount of salt, it would taste like triple. He's not a chef though, so I can't confirm this. Either way, the actual chef should know and adjust his recipe to account for this. This dish, as it was, started at a 3.5-star and easily fell to a zero. I could not dull the saltiness enough to finish it even when mixing it with the delicately aromatic rice (4-star) or grilled green pepper and tomato on the side 3-star). Ick!
Given the attentive service once the restaurant was made aware of our presence (our server took the time to talk about her background and ask us about ours) and the decent kabab and appetizer (which ironically tasted like apple pie if you bite it after having some of the Provencal), this place is worth trying, but you may wish to advise the chef against using a lot of salt in citrusy dishes if you are like me... or ask for a replacement dish if you are displeased and bolder than I!
Byblos is THE BEST place to have a wedding reception, or any event!!! My husband and I had our wedding reception here on July 9, 2011, and this was the greatest decision we could have ever made! We looked at least 10 different venues, including luxury hotels, and country clubs, but when we came to Byblos we knew this would be the best decision, especially because Amgad, the owner of Byblos was extremely accommodating and easygoing with everything. He made the menu exactly how we wanted, and even researched new foods and flavors until we were happy with the dinner menu. It was a full-course meal with cold hors d'oeuvres, hot hors d'oeuvres, a plated dinner entrée, dessert, and drinks. People loved the food! There was a large variety, and an incredible amount, which is a good thing in my family!
Also, Amgad allowed our wedding coordinator and florist to arrive very early in the day to ensure everything was set up on time. He worked directly with the belly dancers who were performing that night, the DJ, and the table linens company so that I didn't have to worry about these details. We were only involved in choosing the table linen colors and the music that the DJ would play, which was FANTASTIC because I was already dealing with so many other details. We were even able to have a slideshow of pictures of my husband and me, which played throughout the entire night on the flat screen TV in the bar.
At Byblos, we had no time limits and the wedding reception could go on as long as we wanted, unlike the other venues we researched who gave us a limit of 4 to 6 hours. Our guests were on the dance floor the entire night and the atmosphere was very high-energy. There was never a dull moment, and my husband and I didn't feel like we needed to entertain people because Byblos provided all the fun and excitement.
After the wedding, we received many compliments from our guests, who said it was "The wedding of the year". Needless to say, our guests were thrilled. My wedding day was the greatest day of my life, and everything went so smooth, thanks to Amgad and the awesome Byblos restaurant and nightclub. My mother and father were so pleased with everything, and my mother is already considering having a baby shower for me at Byblos when the time comes! :)
Terrible experience on a Saturday night.
I have never been to a restaurant and been told that they are out of items on their menu. My friend and I wanted an eggplant dish and was told they are out of eggplant, then asked for a baked potatoes but was told they had no potatoes although that was a choice on their menu. I was able to get fries but was told they are out of ketchup....that was the topper!!!!
I can't even say the food I ate was very good.
This place is the greatest part place ever. Â The manager is amazing and they do everything to make sure all the guests are happy. Â The food, service, esp the DJ are just great. Â I have had amazing time there as a guest and also as a party host. Â I love the fact that they are generous in their food servings and they will bring it as much people desire. Â The price is also great compared to all the other places. This place is beautiful for every occasion such as birth day, baby shower, weddings and etc. Â I absolutely loved the place, the design, the nice manager, the food and the DJ. Â I recommend them to everybody and I know that you won't regret it.
Review Source:Had the event at Byblos! It was amazing: food, music, atmosphere, singer, program, dancers, flower arrangements, decorations, light set up....!!! Management goes above and beyond to please you (REALLY) and exceeds all the expectations. Would definitely recommend Byblos for any "fun- related" gathering!
Review Source:Don't go on a weekend evening...or any other time for that matter. Â If you call to make a reservation twenty minutes before and they know who you are when you arrive for the first time, that's probably not a good sign...unless you are a celebrity. Â If you show up and there is ample street parking in front of the restaurant, that is probably not a positive sign about the restaurant. Â Don't know how this restaurant ended up with almost a four rating...maybe it was people being generous or rating the entertainment that they apparently have some nights? Â They were definitely not rating the food. Make the drive to Carnival or one of the others rated a full 4 stars or higher.
Pros:
- Ground beef kabob was about the only good thing on the menu. (had a sampler)
- No belly dancers, but didn't know they were supposed to have them...not sure if that's a pro or a con. :-)
- Had a good laugh about it, and it's definitely not an experience I will forget anytime soon. Â Thank God we used an Entertainment coupon and only paid for one meal. Â Would have walked out if I had to pay full price based on the atmosphere alone. Â Gave it a chance...not impressed.
CONS:
- Completely empty at 10 on a Friday...strange.
- Very Middle Eastern feel to it...different.
- Wait staff disappeared for a long time. Â
- Food took forever to be brought out.
- Restaurant was very dimly lit.
- Music was so loud you couldn't talk across the table.
- Was not impressed with the food...very bland.
- Way overpriced for the setting and quality of food.
- Had a lot better food in the middle of nowhere Iraq.
Arrived at 10pm on a Friday night with some friends from out of town. The place was totally empty, I mean the entire salon and the bar and the 60+ tables. Â The owner told us it will pick up and the bellydancer and singer will performe soon. The food was ok, nothing special but on the pricy side and it took long for them to bring out our entrees. The service was mediocre. Later on around midnight a few couples and some drunk guys showed up. Â I was embarassed for taking my friends there.
Review Source:This place Rocks!! middle eastern style rock and roll! Â
We came here b/c my friend abby was throwing a fundraiser so it was a private party. The food was awesome..their was hummus, kabob, this awesome salad. There was entertainment the entire night (3 gorgeous belly dancers that would dance together then would engage the entire crowd). I don't think they left anyone out. Last thing.. I'm not much of a smoker but they had houkah which was pretty fun to smoke while spending the evening here.
I would recommend this place for a fun different type of date or night out with the girls.
