mmmmmmmmmm Garlic!!!!!  I refer to this place amongst my friends as "Garlic Paradise" Mainly b/c they serve rolls at the beginning of the meal w/ this awesome Olive Oil, Garlic, and spices concoction that will knock the Vampire right out of you!

Their meatballs are a must!!! Their bartenders make a mean dirty martini and they have nicely priced wine options to boot.  On their menu you will find amazing pastas, to die for seafood and fish dishes, veggie friendly offerings, and desserts!  You can't go wrong with their Shrimp Scampi or Ossobuco . BUT wait they will, and always do have, nightly SPECIALS. hooray for Garlic Paradise!

It's very quaint here, parking is a b!tch however but that's for the whole plaza not just the restaurant-allot yourself sometime here.

After working for Mario Batali and Lidia Bastianich, I feel like I should know a bit about Italian food. This place was ok. Nothing spectacular. I went with two friends for dinner and my first impression was that it was way overpriced for what they were offering. The food was good but not good enough to be paying the prices they were asking for. I will say that the service was excellent. It was my friends birthday and they brought complimentary sambucco and tiramisu and sang to him. All in all a good night out with good friends but the food didn't add or subtract to the experience.

$40.00 for a tasteless Osobuco, $34.00 for a salty Seafood linguini. overacted service, never came back to check on how our food was, I guess part is my fault but I did not want to ruin my family gathering which to be honest food was not that important but time spent together with my family..... sorry to say but I have eaten better at Macaroni and Grill

We wanted to have a quick meal on the way to the movies. Cafe Vico was an old friend that we hadn't visited in a long time. We had the famous Cafe Vico lasagna and it is worth being famous. Service was great. We were early and were sharing everything, thus the smaller than usual bill.  We were treated royally.

This is one of those places that I just don't get.  The food is okay, but not nearly good enough to warrant the price tag attached to the items.

Every time I've gone I've been underwhelmed and wondering what in the world everyone else sees about this place.  I love good Italian food (who doesn't) but this is just okay, at best.

Much better, and much more authentic Italian food (made/served by actual Italians) and Fratelli Milano in Miami.  If one is unwilling to travel that far, Capriccio's in Broward is also better food at equivalent, if not better prices.

As alway a great dining experience .  Pasta is always excellent. Chicken parm was pounded thin and tender. Tonight the service was not up to the usual. Had to wait for everything. Like the server keep forgetting we were there. Food was so excellent it can be forgiven. Especially since it is usually much better.

First time back after a five year abstance. It would have been 5 stars except the muscle app had a little too much white wine and needed red pepper flakes.
The Lasagna and Crab Ravioli were world class!  They really know how to do a lobster reduction on the sauce. (but I do miss actual pieces of lobster!)

I so wanted to LOVE it here after reading all the great Yelp reviews.  It was good, just not as great as I expected it would be.  Service was attentive, but I overheard another server telling a table about specials that we did not get to hear about...maybe we were not special enough for THOSE specials.  I chose a pasta dish from the menu, nice Mediterranean flavors and the pasta was cooked well.  We started with their calamari, which was very nice, but it tasted as if the oil it was cooked in was a little old.  We will definitely go back for another try.  I think I might just need to try some different things to fall in love.

Went there on Fri July 13 with a friend and based on reviews tried the Lasagna. I have to agree, it was delish. Not the normal flavor of most Lasagna's I've tried but so so good. I can't wait to go back. I had an appetizer like Bruschetta and a acaprese combined but they added a crispy bacon on top man that was good! I give it 4 even though there was a mishap with my credit card and they gave me someone else's card (thank God it was a reg client of theirs) and I didn't notice since I didn't need to pull it out again until the next day. I got a call from the owner (don't know how he found me lol maybe my Open Table reservation) and told me "oops we gave you the wrong card" he told me not to panic, don't cancel my card he knows the old lady who has my card and she won't use it, could I please arrange for him to exchange cards. We did it and all is well. He even thanked me for driving so far to his restaurant (I live in WEST WEST Miramar lol). Lovely place. Going back real soon but yeah, I will check my card next time LOL!

Cafe Vico, you're like a warm hug! The atmsphere is warm and enjoyable, the service attentive and friendly, and the food is absolutely magnificent! In my meat eating days I would have recommended the tortollini in pink sauce (and I still do). Now I usually get the spinach and ricotta ravioli in pink sauce (I have fantasies about that pink sauce). Once again- in my meat eating days- I would have also recommended the fish dishes and the lasagna. They're delicious of course, just no longer my cup of tea. The also have a great wine list and a bountiful selection of desserts.

WE did a group on here and it was good - BUT - even with the group on it was expensive in my view and more then it was worth.  The food was good and so was the service but not that good to warrant the prices.

I don't think I would go back based on the prices alone.

Superb Lasagne Bolognese. You may have heard - and the rumors are true. Could be the most delicious lasagna I have ever had. In fact, this is the only entree i have had here so perhaps I am slightly biased.

I first tried a dish from Cafe Vico purely by chance never having heard of it before as it is a little tucked-away gem in the heart of downtown Fort Lauderdale. We were at a charity event with 5 feature Chefs (I won't mention any names) but clearly Vico's Lasagne Bolognese was the standout feature.

Quaint, quiet, and quite comfortable atmosphere compliments the passion you can feel walking in te door. They do pass out bruschetta amuse bouche dishes at dinner and they are delicious as well.

If you want authentic, passionate itailan food with no frills, try Cafe Vico - where substance is far more important than style. I will keep this updated as I try more dishes!

I have been eating at Cafe Vico for about the past five years, and as it is a bit on the expensive side for an Italian Restaurant, I like to go for special occasions.  The prices however are not insane.  Although located in a strip mall, the interior of Cafe Vico is really quite cozy and pleasant.  I particularly like the painted sky ceiling.  The dishware, which is a mix and match of different patterns also adds a nice touch to this place.  On nights like Valentine's Day, it is a very busy restaurant, but it is rather large restaurant also offering dining al fresco, so you can usually get a reservation or just show up.  The owner is always warm and friendly upon entrance which is a nice touch.

As for food, I have had quite a bit here, and have never been let down.  I used to order the lasagna, which is fantastic cheesy goodness.  I also order the raviolis which are homemade.  I  have had their lobster ravioli, in a seafood sauce and their chicken ravioli in a black cherry sauce which is an unusual but sweet flavor.  Their staff has always accommodated me when I want a half and half on the ravioli.  Currently, my favorite dish at Cafe Vico is the Seafood Risotto.  It's a generous portion of calamari, shrimp, clams, mussels, and scallops upon a bed of creamy risotto in a tomato based sauce.  Just the thought of it has my mouth watering.  Their chicken parmigiana and pasta dishes are also top notch.  Mussels in white wine sauce and their salads and cheeses are fresh and delicious appetizer options.

Service is generally good, but can be a little slow or disjointed.  For example, sometimes appetizers are served very quickly, and there might be a bit of a wait for entrees and drinks.  When Vico is hitting on all cylinders though it is a great place to eat.  I will continue to return.

Don't know where Tim C ate but he better stick to the NY pseudo Italian restaurants!
Cafe Vico has that home feel and yet the decor, with white and yellow tablecloths and curtains playing against the dark wood gives the place the elegance of a country home. (I wish Morton's would take some lessons in how to make a restaurant feel comfy and cozy.)
We went for lunch and had the specials: Ossa Bucco ($16.95)  that melted in your mouth and 4 cheese ravioli ($12.95) that was delicious. As soon as you sit down you are served plain, hot rolls with a thick garlic, oil and spice dipping bowl. Having a choice of soup (pasta fagioli) or salad with the meal I took the latter which was thick and tasty.
If I knew how to post a picture here I would post the carrot cake ($6.85) that I had and presented better than I have seen it served anywhere else.
Cafe Vico has been hidden away in the corner of a shopping strip and has grown year by year with the help of 'regulars' and tasteful expansion.
The ambiance and food are top drawer as was the service with the server and busboy working as a team
    Bravo Marco Vico!!!

Vico is where the locals go. Marco always greets ladies with a kiss on the hand, and the gentlemen with a handshake. He never fails.

The place is always busy on the weekends, but we always manage to find a table. The staff is always very professional and knowledgable. They recite all the nightly specials by heart. The regular dishes are very reasonably priced, as are the specials, which never disappoint. My personal favorite is the Frutta Di Mare (sp?) with Fra Diavlo sauce. It's darn good.

The ambiance of the restaurant is one of upscale dining, but without all the stuffiness. Each and every meal comes with bruschetta and fresh bread. My friends and family prefer Vico because it is consistently solid and reasonable. It is a top choice for birthdays and anniversaries. This is saying a lot mind you, we've been in Fort Lauderdale for 60 years.

If you think Vico is overpriced, there are other options for you if you like Italian food. It's called Big Louie's. The guy who says Vico is too expensive is probably the same guy who says Jessica Alba is overrated and complains about food at a funeral reception. Nonsense, all of it. Vico is covered in awesome sauce.

My wife ordered sea bass, I have never seen a piece of sea bass that looks like salmon.  She was not pleased.  I had the chicken francese.  It was good, but it was by no measure worth $25.  The apps were disappointing, calamari tasted like it had been frozen, meatballs were fair at best.  I agree with others here, for the $$$$ there are way too many options in S Florida for higher end Italian.

If I could give this place ten stars I would! It is incredible! The meatball appetizer is very good as well as the salads. I had a glass of savingon blanc and it was great and strong ( for me anyway) I ordered the tortilini with extra sauce (I like a lot of sauce) and it was phenomenal! My husband ordered their famous lasagna and loved it! I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu here!

Café Vico has been one of my favorite Italian restaurants over the years, where I've enjoyed many a fine lunch and dinner. The best part being that instead of merely maintaining a good restaurant, they've in fact improved not only their facilities but their food quality as well.

The first thing I enjoy about entering Café Vico is the warm greeting and being seated in a casual dinning environment that exudes good charm as well as a good ambiance. That is something not to easy to pull of in a strip mall location but with a dark rustic brown tile floor, a recessed ceiling with painted sky and clouds; they've done a pretty darn good job of it. Though difficult for me to do, I can forgive them for the way over done number of pictures of Hollywood and other celebrity stars that adorn not only the restaurant dinning walls but the restrooms too. After all, I can't think of any relationship there would be between those pictured and Café Vico.

The bar is small, dark wood, but exceedingly well stocked with a nice variety of liquors as well as wines. The tables are usually set with a nice white table cloth then covered with yet another yellow table cloth placed at an angle, white napkins decently folded and glassware without leftover dishwashing water spots; nice touches.

As for the food, typical Italian fare, good sized portions, but best of all, consistently top of the line in preparation, presentation, taste and flavor. It's the consistently good that I appreciate most, as I am one who likes reliability in restaurant food.

Café Vico doesn't go out on any far reaching culinary artistry limb Valentino's might, but instead sticks to what is typically expected of a tradition fine Italian dinning experience.

This place gets the gentlemen s  C.It is pleasant enough inside with baked terra cotta tile floors and sunny italian style paint and celeb pictures on the wall. The food is adequate but not great, unlike the prices which are high for what is presented.I think the place could be vastly better if they did not run the kitchen like a diner. Some dishes are over $30, and salads are over$ 12.00.For this pricing level i do not expect CHEAP STAINLESS FLATWEAR.The salads are right from the walk in cooler just like the place that serves 6.95 parm heros. The bread at the table are packaged dinner rolls from a heater(somewhat stale on the bottom). The chicken main  coarse again edible at best. This place has its' fans but easliy spending 120.00 for dinner (with wine) , and feeling like you came from a olive garden leaves you disappointed.

I've had some excellent Italian food in Europe as well as in New York City. I had the BLACK SPAGHETTI (Spicy fresh plum tomatoes sauce) & my guess had  the FETTUCINI ALFREDO (Creamy white sauce). The meal was luke warm. In comparison, Cafe Vico was simply basic in taste and presentation. The best part about this visit, was the warm bread with the garlic and oil. The staff was attentive as well. We only ate at this restaurant due to an excellent deal through Groupon. To add insult to injury. Cafe Vico added 20% gratuity for a table of two, to our over-priced bill. I am assuming they thought we were not going to tip well. The maitre d' (I'm thinking he is also the owner) claimed that it was their policy with groupon. I gave the server an additional $10.00.

    S. Shaw.

We spoke with groupon and their response is as follows:

    Sorry for any trouble.

However, it is not Groupons policy to add auto-gratuity to your purchase. And I cannot apologize enough for this experience!

I would be more than happy to issue you a full refund to your original credit card of purchase or I would be happy to cancel this order and issue Groupon credit to your account.

okay, Good food, good service but the price... SERIOUSLY?! Toooo much for just GOOD, $38 for a sea bass?! Are you serious?! (Not mentioning that is the portion size of a Sardine)
    No, sorry that is exaggerated!
Will not come back for the simple reason of nothing special for that
price, sorry. Two entree and a bottle of water with one glass of wine $120,00???
When you pay for a package, Ambiance, Food, Service, Variety, that still fair, but when there is nothing and you still pay too much..Def a NO!

I've been wanting to try this place for dinner so I made reservations for Valentine's Day evening. We arrived just before our reservation at 8, and the place was packed and several other couples were waiting. After waiting awhile to check in, the owner took us to the bar to wait for a table. We each had a drink there and they gave us a nice plate of olives and cheese to munch on. After waiting another several minutes, we were finally seated. I think they may have taken too many reservations.

Anyway, once we sat down the service was pretty good and our waiter seemed to always come back at the right time (just as we were finishing something, or to bring the next dish), even though he was very busy. After tearing into some bread with garlic & oil for dipping that was fantastic, we shared the antipasto appetizer for two (around $15) and it was really fresh and amazing. I'd like to get that for lunch sometime. It was great as a starter with fresh proscuitto, juicy tomatoes, aged mozarella., etc.

For our meal, my fiancee had the shrimp scampi with linguine (around $30). It was a decent portion of jumbo shrimp, very tasty. Not out of this world, but darn good. (She let me try it.). I had the lasagna ($23 or $24) which said on the menu "Best in Broward". I thought it was good, but it was different from any other lasagna I've ever had. Does that mean it was authentic? Really don't know - all I know is it had a ton of beef inside and a lot of cheese on top but very little sauce. I though it was good but would have been better if they used more sauce. No way this is the best lasagna in Broward, although I did enjoy it. The place is slightly on the pricey side. If you order wine, your bill will likely go over $100 for two, but they do give nice portions and the staff was very friendly. Quality food. I'll probably go back again sometime...

Saturday night, we had dinner here for a friend's birthday. You would never know such a charming place existed. As many fellow Yelpers pointed out, it is located in the back corner of a strip mall, off of Federal Highway.

Nine people were in our party. My only criticism was that the table was crowded but it was our parties fault partially,  as they brought several great wines to sample. We kept the waitstaff busy changing out the wine glasses.

Definitely try the bread with the garlic and oil sauce. But go easy on it, you are about to eat a lot of food. For starters they brought out bruschetta and a home made pasta. I don't think this is customary as our "birthday boy" has been an excellent customer for many years. The bruschetta was crispy and the tomato topping delicious. But that was nothing compared to the pasta. The owner brought over these pasta purses filled with cheese and truffle oil. They were in a light cream sauce. They were so good, we quickly passed the plate around until there was nothing left.

For a main, I went for a not too fattening, not too healthy treat. I ordered the veal marsala. It was served with a small serving of pasta with tomato sauce, and broccoli.  The veal was melt in your mouth soft and tender. The sauce was excellent. I didn't eat my pasta but I am sure it was good. I also tried the homemade pappardelle with bolognese sauce. It was light, fresh and yummy. One of our friends ordered a special which was chicken breast stuffed with prosciutto, spinach,  and cheese, just delicious.

For dessert, I think it was their cake, because I know our party did not bring it in. It was a chocolate cake with a layer of mousse, layer of cake, and layer of chocolate ganache. It was so good, I was happy they forced me to try some.

It's an intimate place for a date or a large group. It you come here on Friday or Saturday night it will not be as quaint.

The owner was very nice and gracious, which is  always a plus. The waitstaff tried their hardest to keep up with our slightly boisterous group.

    Enjoy!

So my husband and I went there for our one year anniversary last night...At first it's a bit of a put off because it's in a plaza...but when you walk inside, your perspective changes right away...
The maitre'd or manager (not sure who he was) shook my hubby's hand and kissed mine! (Surprising). Then he saw we were a couple dressed up and offered us a romantic back room that was more quiet and we accepted. Immediately he noticed I was wearing a black dress and offered me the black linen napkin, which I like!
They bring two things to the table that are complimentary...bruschetta on toast and bread with an oil garlic sauce on the side. The oil garlic sauce was delicious with lots of visible pieces of garlic...not good for the breath, but yummy on the bread!!
The waiter brought us two large bottles and asked if we wanted sparkling or flat, so it didn't look like there was an option of having tap water to save the 6 bucks...this I didn't like too much. But aside from that...let's get to the food...
I ordered the veal franscese and it was divine. The veal was very thinly sliced and breaded in a delicious light breading, plated over some garlicy lemony pieces of arugala. On the side comes a small plate of al dente pasta in a tomoto sauce. The pasta was just ok, but it wasn't the main focus so I wasn't mad. On the plate with the veal was a small portion of mashed sweet potatoes which were yummy and creamy, and also a pretty tomato which was very fresh. Oh, and two deliciously flavored pieces of brocolli. My husband ordered the chicken parm, which was also quite delicious. The side items were the same, and he also didn't care for the pasta.
Overall, the portions were just right...at first they seem small, but after everything, you leave full, but not TOO full.
The prices weren't that horrible...our bill for two dinners, a bottle of water, and a bottle of wine was 80 dollars.
The service was great, the environment was classy, and I would definitely recommend this place for a small gathering or a romantic date.

***GREAT pasta, lovely, authentic Italian romantic atmosphere and the BEST flourless chocolate cake I've EVER had!***

It's been awhile since I went, since I moved out of state. But the pasta I had, I can't remember the name, but it was delicious! The atmosphere is great! The decoration is very Italian -- lots of wood, warm feeling, dark, and romantic.

And I will never forget it, because I had the best flourless chocolate cake I've EVER had. Very thick, and warm with vanilla ice cream.  It was DECADENT!

Back to the pasta again, it was superb (mine and my bf's) and I can't wait until the next time I'm in town to indulge again!

Three stars, with less of an emphasis on the -A- and more on the OK.

I really wanted to love this place. I went for a quiet, romantic dinner and left feeling romantic, but still kind of hungry -- for better food.

Tucked in a strip mall on Rt. 1, as many surprisingly good restaurants tend to be in South Florida, I thought that was a good sign. Dimly lit, lots of wood, the inviting din of chatting-with-mouths full, bustling environment, my hand kissed by Italian owner- guy at the door, whisked immediately to a perfect table, nice wine list, footsie under the table. I liked this place  a lot...until the menu came.

Nothing really jumped out of the menu yelling, "mama mia, do I sound delicioso, or what!??"  The specials were a bit more inviting though so I ordered a salad with mango and berries and almonds to start. It was good, but small for $9. We skipped appetizers to save room for what we thought would be a rich, luscious meal of seafood risotto and pasta puttanesca. Think again. The portions were ample but the flavors left us feeling like they ran out of a key ingredient for each dish back in the kitchen.

I still loved our table and our Malbec and the mohagany-stained warmth and the black and white Vanity Fair photos everywhere, so I kept my fingers crossed for a knock-your-socks off dessert. Alas, all socks are safe here. The creme brulee with berries was reheated before serving and badly at  that. Every spoonful was both cold and warm. It tasted good, but come on, Vico!

I'm thinking perhaps I needed to be hungrier to enjoy the food better, or we just ordered the wrong thing or it was an off night for the chef. Or, perhaps, I'm just giving this place a pass because my date was so lovely and the food just didn't matter that much. (All socks were ripped off soon after we left.)

The place is worth a try, but come with someone you realllllly like, just in case.

Cafe Vico hasn't forgot what makes Southern Italian cooking the Prima Donna of European cuisine. We're talking home made food here. Starting with the Zuppa Pasta Fagiola, the blend of cannelini beans, pasta, celery and just the right amount of tomato explains why the zuppa was listed under "Insalata": a wonderful mouth full of flavor and texture.
Next, the unfussed over entree of spaghetti and meatballs was very good. The meatballs were tender, tasty and not overwhelming as some "new" Italian restaurants are won to do.
The Yellowtail Snapper with capers and baby artichoke was also very fresh and tasty.
The service was very attentive and the manager stopped by to introduce himself and ensure the food was to our liking.
Note that this is not Haute cuisine but very good home made Italian dishes you will want to take your family, lover and friends to enjoy. Marco Vico has a winner here! Manga!!!

Overall this meal was B-A-D BAD.  Let me get the good parts out of the way:  the hot rolls with the garlic and oil were very good indeed.  And the maitre d' (I'm thinking he is also the owner) was very friendly to everyone coming in the door.  That was the good (besides my friends being there).

I'll start with the salad - Insalata di Rucula.  I love arugula.  But I have no idea what they did with this salad.  First, the arugula was so large that it had none of the expected peppery taste to the green.  Then I might have missed something in the description of this dish, because the salad included some sort of wilted green within - which was cold and flavorless.  If this is an intentional part of the salad I am perplexed what the intended effect is supposed to be.

Then I got my Agnolotti Pomodoro con Pollo, with the pasta being fresh.  Agnolotti are traditionally a half-moon filled pasta (basically like ravioli but different shape).  These were not the right shape, so I guess the "agnolotti" tagging was just to fancy it up.  But really I digress, that doesn't even matter to me.

The pasta was served lukewarm - is it that hard to time the dinner of 6 guests so that the food is marginally hot?  Second, the first bite started the disappointment.  Hoping for yummy, but got gummy.  Homemade pasta and it's gummy??? And cold??  How do you manage that?  It made me very sad.

Finally, the service.  Water glasses were frequently empty and we needed to flag down someone to get more - a pet peeve of mine since I'm a thirsty guy.  But worse was the ending.  We added the tip and split the bill among cards, and I was supposed to be charged $58.  Somehow I got charged $158, which would have resulted in the waiter getting a 50% tip.  Was he really so stupid that he thought we were tipping that much?  Was he just trying to get an extra $100???  I really have no idea what happened there, but it certainly didn't have the meal end on a high note.

This may be the best bread I've ever had...these hot, crusty breadrolls, soft on the inside with a delicious garlic based dipping sauce-should have asked them about.  The service is always close to perfect.  Pasta e fagioli is more like minestrone, but I can live with that.  Was a  little disappointed with my undercooked ravioli.  I thought it was just me, but the BF was eating off my plate, and he mentioned it to me later out of the blue, so it wasn't in my head.

Stick to the veal (delicious).  You'll get over the fact that it's in a shopping center as soon as you walk through the door.  The upside to being in a shopping center is plentiful parking.  Are you listening, San Francisco?  There's a reason why I'll drive all the way to Daly City for a movie.
