My boyfriend and I went here on a whim because we wanted to try someplace new. First the alcohol selection was rather limited for a Mexican restaurant with a "full bar".    No Cointreau or Grand Marnier as an option for margaritas? The margaritas they did have were so so.
We ordered our food and as we were waiting a ROACH crawled out of the bar!!! I was disgusted! Needless to say we cancelled the food order and got out of there. But when we told the bartender what we saw, she had this look like "well what do you want me to do about it?". At this point I just wanted to go so we just paid for the drinks and left. I do not recommend coming here, there are plenty of AWESOME Mexican restaurants downtown, this just isn't one of them.

So far so good - but I'll need to go back again to check out the food due to bad timing.  Went there with a friend on a Sunday evening.  Finding the place was a bit of a deal (FYI, its on the lower level!).  On the way down the stairs we helped a guy who dropped his phone find all of the pieces.  Then we followed him into Canteen and it just so happened to be the manager!  Then we saw the "kitchen closed" sign.  The manager (Emmanuel) told us the kitchen was being renovated for a few days.  He asked us to grab dinner nearby and come back for free drinks so he could make it up to us.

We took him up on it and ended up meeting more staff.  Everyone was friendly.  Emmanuel makes a mean margarita, and he also tested out some different liqueurs and whatnot on us.  Needless to say, although we were disappointed we didn't get fed there, the drinks were great, the staff was fun, and it got very busy after 11 PM.  We're planning to go back to check out the food.  Looking forward to it!

I have no idea what place some other reviewers are talking about - my experience was hard to find place, not a single soul in from 8:30pm to 9:30pm on a Friday, fruit flies all over, a server who didn't know whether their torta de vegetable was vegetarian, torta made in a burger bun with zucchini and squash - they forgot to put beans or guacamole, and overall a very very mediocre experience with music sometimes so loud you can't hear yourself and suddenly reduced so you're shouting.

It was OK. It took us forever to find it and had all but written it off when we finally stumbled on it.

The fish tacos were good and my wife and I had the same thing so it would be hard to compare other entrees. We were on a family trip, our daughter had a salad and our son the veggie sandwich. Both said they were OK but didn't rave about it.

It was kinda weird because nobody was in the place and it was 6:30 on a busy Friday night in August.

Loved the place and experience.  I've only been here once and am already looking forward to coming back. I went on a Friday night because they had margarita specials, the only one I can find in Streeterville (can anyone name another?). It was strange that the place didn't offer their lime margaritas on their Friday night special but that is probably because everyone would order em. The mango, peach and strawberry margs were pretty good though.

The tacos were quite tasty, the al pastor more so than the carne asada. The wait staff was very attentive. What I didn't understand was the music selection. Seemed that it was whomever was working what they wanted to hear, and loud. They did turn it down once we commented on it though.

The overal decor was meh, I mean nothing that really stuck out to me but hey, I'm going back to drink and eat tacos, not stare at the decor!

We only went for dinner, but it was delish!  The margaritas were great, as were the tacos.  The bartender was great too.

really low key place and somehow is always empty. i come here every friday for their guacamole and carne asada. this is the best guac i ve ever tasted - with generous hints of cilantro and jalapenos and lime. the carne asada taco is also excellent. can't say i was too impressed with their drinks, them being a mexican establishment i had high expectations. nonetheless, the guac alone is enough for me to make the trip.

Great food, great drinks. Stopped in with my girlfriend on our way home on a Wednesday night. It was pretty empty, which is surprising for how good it was. Turns out they hadn't had their grand opening yet, so we were some of the first customers.

The spicy shrimp tacos are the best I've ever had, and the queso fundido was amazing as well. Margaritas were all fresh made, they have a mixologist on hand. It was not pre-made mix which made all the difference. Agave nectar, fresh lime juice and premium tequilla. Simple and delicious.

What made the night was the service. The GM (Paul) stopped over to see how things were going. I was honest and told him i was let down by the chips. He said they were made fresh in house but to me they were no different than something I could buy at a store. Some owners might get defensive, but instead, Paul said he was sorry we felt that way and to hold on. He then went to the kitchen, had his chefs make two different styles of chips and three different styles of guac. We sat and were his guinea pigs (in a good, delicious way) testing different combinations. He said he valued our feedback, and you know what he meant it.

We went back on a Tuesday about a month later, and they were using the more authentic home made chips that we preferred. (Of the three varieties of guac we tried, the recipe they were using already was our favorite.)

The decor is perfect for an upscale cantina feel, but not too upscale. Its a great merge of a mexican cantina and sports bar, as there are enough tv's to watch the game, but its not overwhelming.

I loved it and will definitely go back, you should too.

We've stopped in a few times after work (really convenient at Michigan and Grand). I can't decide what is better, the food or the cocktails.

At the bar, they feature a collection of prohibition era cocktails made with fresh lime, syrups, etc...terrific!

In the kitchen, they prepare authentic Mexican deliciousness including some killer tortas.

Only challenge is the place is a little hard to find, as they're still so new the sign hasn't arrived.  Well worth the 1/2 minute hunt it takes to find the door!

Came here on a Tuesday evening with no expectations. My date said it was a new place to check out. The decor was very cool.  Everything was a dark wood. Everything looks new (as it should), and it just has a good vibe to it. I expect it to be a good place for the upscale twenty-somethings.

The first thing I noticed was the odd seating.  We had a 'booth'. The booth seats were raised high and there was a bar at your feet.  But when I sat down the table didnt reach far enough towards me, so I had to sit at the edge of the seat with my feet dangling.  A little uncomfortable but not terrible.

They had a lot of different drink options. I was happy to see they had a Dog Fish 90 minute ale. One of my favorites.  We ordered Elote for an appetizer. My friends and I would make this at home and it was always sooooo good.  We ordered 3 different types of tacos. Fish, pork, and steak. We were expecting the Elote to come out first. Because how long does it take to boil corn and put some butter and seasonings on it?  Well, apparently a long time.  It came out later with all of our tacos. So we had a lot of food to put down at one time.

The Elote was pretty good. But the fish tacos were amazing!  The fish was breaded, crunchy, and full of flavor. Plus they put this sauce on it that just made it mouth-watering.  The other tacos, pork and steak were just ok. The steak was a little dry and chewy.

The one thing that threw us off was the music. They were playing Pink Floyd followed by Bob Marley?  This is supposed to be a Mexican restaurant? Huh? The DJ kept turning the music up and down. So it's like every other song I would have to raise my voice. They could definitely work on the music. Maybe during dinner hours just have a pre-made latin-inspired CD playing and then at night have your DJ.

    Overall I liked this place.
