After passing this place by and wanting to go in for over two years, finally, we did! OMG. Great H, 5-7 T-Sat(?) $5 wines & 4 small plates for $21. New chef trained in Montreal, Sophia, she is the bomb. Ask her about her homemade garlic infused oil. I hope you get Ruben to guide you around this NW Denver hidden gem. It is my NEW favorite happy hour w/ wine loving ladies & also a fab romantic date night spot. Frosty windows, parisian bistro feel. The gnocchi was perfect... Pillowy, savory with shaved Parmesan flakes. Loved the current Ramsey Cab & Gruner Veltliner. We will be back. Often. Tuesday is ladies night = $5 glasses all night. Their sommelier could have my phone number. Dig it. Tip well. It's a small space & they earn every dollar. I am already dreaming of my next trip to Cellar Wine Bar. Love at first glass.
Review Source:If you're looking for a spot to grab an affordable glass of tasty wine with friends during happy hour, then Cellar Wine Bar is worth checking out. Â What's better than a $5 glass of delicious Malbec served alongside goat and Manchengo cheeses, dried dates (my fave), apricots, figs and Marcona almonds? Â Maybe a generous serving of steamed mussels and creamy hummus with fresh veggies and pita bread? Â They've got that too! Â The restaurant is small with exposed brick walls, a large bar area and just enough seating. Â There is a long, narrow table in the center which is perfect for a group of around ten or so (I would definitely make a reservation in advance if you have a group). Â The staff was very friendly, but my wine glass was left empty a few times, which is never a good thing for this wine lover. :)
Review Source:I have been wanting to stop by this cute neighborhood staple for a while now, but for whatever reason it never came up during those frantic "Where should we go?" conversations. Â
Finally tried out Cellar Wine bar on Friday evening with a girlfriend. Â I had heard that the wine happy hour is awesome, so that was the main pull. Â Walked in and there were only 2 seats left at the community bar in the middle, which was fine. Â The space is intimate and perfect for a date night or catching up. Â Probably not so much for a big group. Â
We had a few rounds of $5 wine (happy hour until 7!) and shared some small plates: red pepper soup (meh), featured salad with pears (the most boring salad ever), duck confit bruschetta (YUM!!!), and the hummus mezze (would definitely order again). Â So, overall the food was hit or miss. Â But, definitely try the duck confit.
Next time I will come for wine and dessert, but I'll definitely be adding this charming little wine bar to my rotation in the highlands.
I've been trying to make it here for what seems like a loooooooong time. Originally attempting to go too early (they don't open before 5pm) and having to settle for Vita.
OK, so finally made it here when my mom was in town. I'm oretty sure she enjoyed it and my pregnant wife was happy that they have food since she's not partaking in the drinks right now.
By the way, the food was spectacular! Especially the roasted red pepper soup with queso fresco, chimayo chile croutons and chives. Second best choice was the herb gnocchi with sautéed red kuri squash, sage, speck and buerre noisette. Also fun was the seasonal mushrooms, fried capers, shaved radish and piment d'espelette.
I love that they have wine flights. I had the Summer Whites flight as an ode to the end of summer. Delicious!
The Cellar's 4 star rating is right-on. Nice open atmosphere. Knowledgeable and friendly servers. Good wine and food selections at reasonable prices with a decent HH policy of glasses up to $10 reduced to $5 from 5-7 p.m.
I'm a big gnocchi fan and their unusual version made with phyllo dough instead of potato flour was excellent. Some nice mussels with chorizo and fennel followed by a pot de creme that was beyond wonderful made what was going to be a simple glass of wine with a friend after work a truly good dinner.
I really wanted to give 3.5 stars, if it were possible, but I couldn't bring myself to go 4. Â I really liked Cellar Wine Bar and WANTED to like it. The servers are super friendly and helpful, but not very available. The food...meh. I only tried a couple of things, and then the staff forgot to bring a tapas plate my friend had ordered. Didn't try a cheese plate, which apparently is a favorite. It is also pretty small so I'd recommend reservations--we sat at the high-top table in the middle of the bar and it wasn't the most comfortable place. I wouldn't say no to going again, but I just can't rave about this place. It's likeable. Just not wonderful.
Review Source:I have been a regular at the Cellar Wine bar for the past year now and was excited for the new menu change, however, with new changes comes some short falls. The meats and cheeses have been removed from the menu and the executive chef inspired menu is lacking in substance and is redundant. There isn't anything on the menu that jumps out at me and says eat me... I wish the old menu was still around, or at least incorporate some of the new items into the old menu. Â
I think the kitchen is trying to be too big for its britches. While sitting and having a glass of wine, we watched the chef make fresh pasta on the front bar. Fresh pasta isn't even on the menu.
The front of house staff, Evan and Erik, have always been incredibly inviting and friendly and knowledgable of the wines and foods. I commend them!!!
Do it! I brought my parents here for a pre-dinner hangout and we all loved it! This is the second time here and they def did not dissapoint! Evan who runs the place, was very helpful when picking a wine. Â We liked so much, we stayed for three bottles. Â When the third bottle came out (all three the same wine), it smelled and tasted off/bad. Â Evan tried a sip, agreed, and simply brought us out another one. Â I loved their cheese selection and the fact that they were great with suggestions and pairings. Â They also brought us two delicious cucpakes to our table as a thank you! Everyone should come here! Excellent for the ladies or a date!
Review Source:Great room, outstanding staff and the cheese..please! Flatbreads with arugula! Stick a fork in us we were done!
it was the simplicity of the presentation and deft hand of creation that took simple ingredients to the stratosphere!!
We love this place! Thanks to yelp we would have never found it!
Fantastic happy hour, even on the weekends!
So, if I were to plan the perfect Saturday, we'd start with the free wine tasting at Amendment XXI next door, followed by happy hour here at Cellar Wine Bar. Several of their glasses of wine are only $5 during happy hour and they have some great antipasti. I'm an olive addict, so the bowl of marinated olives is great for me.
Parking can be a challenge, so allow yourself some extra time for that.
My bf and I headed over here after a painting class across the street. Â The space is small but inviting. Â We walked in and the waiter immediately came up and seated us. Â He was super nice and attentive. Â We ordered a glass of wine each, a cheese plate and truffle plate. Â Enjoyed the overall atmosphere and can't wait to check out their Social Hour.
Review Source:Looking for a wine bar without attitude? This is it...
The staff is friendly, knowledgable and attentive. Â Eight of us met here to celebrate a friends birthday. Â After explaining our individual tastes to our server, each suggestion was spot-on. Â
Their wine list was varied and interesting, but even if if wasn't, I'd return because they were so welcoming. Â Cellar Wine Bar went out of their way to make our birthday girl feel special. Â They even let us bring our own cake, cut it, and served it. Â We will be back....
This should have been my first stop for a Friday night get together with friends. Â Will definitiely come here again with more friends!
The staff are super friendly and seem to show up at the exact moment you are thinking you are ready to order.
My friends and I decided to each do a flight of different wines. This is truly genius. We are total wine people so we always love new ways to explore wines we may not buy for our own private indulgence. Another bonus, the flights were very generous. :)
We each ordered different tapas to accompany our adventurous libations and that was another stroke of brilliance. The tapas are very tasty and complement the wines well.
The whole mood of this place is inviting and as intoxicating as the wine. Stick around here and you may never want to leave. I found myself super chatty because I felt so comfortable and as if I were amongst friends.
Don't miss it.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff and good wine and beer selection
Four of us went for some pre dinner drinks on a Saturday night. The place was packed but the bartenders did their best in accommodating us in one of the sides of the bar and as soon as more space opened we moved to more comfy seats.
Most of us had local beers and we were stoked they had Herman Joseph's.
Because the place was packed, they struggled with having enough beer glasses or water glasses for everyone, but they were super friendly and tried their best to getting everyone sorted as soon as possible
I really liked this place and their wine! Excellent atmosphere and the bartender was very chill and knowledgeable! The only complaint I had was that we ordered the Spanish meatballs and then were told it would take about 1/2 an hour to make. We said that was fine and never received the meatballs. If you didn't have them, just tells us or if it usually takes this long, put it on your menu. But really, they are meatball's makes homemade ones and it doesn't take me all night! But really, it didn't ruin my experience, I will be back!
Review Source:Love that they call their happy hour the Social Hour. Â Such fancy pants CWB! Â
Came here after Sipping n Painting session right across the street on a late Friday afternoon. Â Looked over to Boulder street and saw that Vita's rooftop is packed and Lola is crazy busy. Â This is for sure a hidden gem for Friday afternoon Social Hour gathering. Â Decided to come here for the chill environment since I was trying to catch up with an old friend. Â
Walked in and immediately we were greeted by everyone in the establishment. Â It was very warm and welcoming considering sometimes snootiness is associated with wines or wine places. Â Love that their Social Hours ends at 7 PM on Fridays. Â
Our waiter immediately sat us down and gave us some cucumber waters, nicely done CWB. Â Haven't had cucumber water in awhile, it was rather refreshing! Â The place itself is small and intimate with really nice decor. Â For Social Hour special they had Bellinis and Sangrias for $5 a glass. Â (There was another drink but I forgot what kind, also for $5.) Â They also have an extensive selection of wines for around $5 as well. Â
We also ordered a 6-item meat and cheese plate for $28 before tax and tip. Â They have amazing selections of about 6 - 7 different meats and same for the cheeses. Â The dishes came with mini pickles, olives, dried dates and grapes to compliment the meats and cheeses. Â Of course it also comes with thinly sliced French bread. Â We ran out of bread and they gladly refilled without charging us any extras. Â I did feel the prices is a little steep considering we didn't get much cheese... Â Picture attached.
Sitting in the establishment and looking out their big windows took me away from Denver for a second. Â I felt as if I was in Europe somewhere for the hour I was there. Â Great service with great prices at an amazing location. Â Definitely will be back again soon!
Met up with friends for Social Hour about a month and a half ago. I enjoyed the champagne cocktails. The Social Hour menu offers some $5 glasses of wine and champagne cocktails. I believe there was a beer option too, but I didn't really pay attention to beer.
We had great, attentive service. We also ordered food, which was good, but the food menu was confusing. Apparently, if you order from the front of the menu, you must order 3 items for the minimum price of 3 plates for $17. The back page has no such qualifiers; however. I found the food to be a bit spendy, but the burrata we ordered from the back page was splendid. I would definitely return here. Also, beware, the parking here is street parking, so it is definitely hard to find.
These days, I only write negative reviews when the situation really calls for it. And, if the establishment shows a bit of promise but needs to really pay attention to some things.
Cellar Wine bar is in a great location, and the physical space of the establishment is really nice. Also - the wine selection is curated well, and the service is attentive and friendly.
So what's the negative, you ask? The food.
For a hefty $21, I got the six cheese plate, which came with an assortment of condiments served in what are essentially small salt dishes. Here's what I got:
- Six small, thin triangular slices of cheese
- Four medium-sized olives
- Three small dates
- Four berries
Not only is the food wildly overpriced, but it's not anything to write home about. The cheese selection is something I could've pulled together at Whole Foods (and got A LOT more cheese for the price). They also tout that they serve locally-sourced foods from Colorado farms, and yet they only serve ONE so-so Colorado cheese. Where's the MouCo? Where's the Haystack?
Finally, they offer a Happy Hour with $5 wines, but completely leave off food. Not a good idea for deal-seeking folks who are chugging down $5 glasses of wine.
If Cellar Wine Bar would work out the situation with their food, then they would have a fantastic wine bar. But as of now, they are sorely losing to their competitor across town who does it WAY better and has decent prices - Sketch.
At this moment, this is my favourite spot to imbibe.
Having watched this little corner take shape into a cosy little hangout last year, I waited for a long time to step through its doors. Too long, it seems; I want to be here every evening, every night, every day.
This bar could pass of as snobbish, instead it's cosy and welcoming. They have a good selection of wines, beers and canapés that makes for a perfect social occasion, be it with girlfriends or an intimate evening with a lucky date.
Service is good
Drinks are fair priced
The ambiance is fantastic
I would like to see more bang for my buck with their charcuterie & cheese pairing plates. The French would be aghast with such tiny slivers of Saint-André with their wine.
I enjoyed Social Hour with Wanda C, Shalan G and her hubby last Thursday. What a charming wine bar!
I indulged in a white and a red sangria and split a flatbread with Wanda. Both Sangrias were tasty, although I liked the red one a bit more. The flat bread was a delicious little nibble.
The wine list is extensive, and the wine cocktails are creative, and they have beer if wine isn't your thing. The Social Hour prices are reasonable, ranging from $5-$8/glass. The gentleman serving us was friendly and attentive...even though I was a little jumpy when he first stopped by!
So to sum it up: wonderful wine selections, tasty nibbles, friendly service and charming location. Yup, I'll be back.
Met some lovely ladies here for HH last week, and I must say, I like it.
We moved away from our favorite wine bar, Sketch, a few months ago and this place reminded me a lot of Sketch, but a touch classier (read: the chairs don't wobble precariously back and forth). Â It was also shockingly not busy for happy hour, with the exception of the "let me give you a name tag" group (coworkers? alumni association?) that occupied the big table by the door.
Select glasses of wine are $5 during HH and I had a very nice Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand as well as a  Verdejo which came highly recommended by the server and rightfully so.
They also have an extensive selection of snacks....not just salumi and cheese but flatbreads as well (ranging from about $6 - $15). Â I'm usually not a fan of most cheeses....I think I'm a cheese lover but when I eat more "interesting" cheese, I'm usually put off. Â We shared three cheeses and they were each delicious, the favorite being the one with white truffle shavings on top. Â Such a delicious smell. Â All of the snacks we ordered were perfect for sharing and not getting too full and spoiling dinner. Â One suggestion: disclose the bacon on the deviled eggs on the menu so the veggie lovers aren't taken by surprise.
Also worth noting is that the server started a tab for each of us so it was easy to close out early and take off. Â
Downside? Â Weird lady taking down signatures for a petition at the door. Â I signed it because I like children and education and all of that, but seriously? Â Move it outside, lady.
First of all this Bar is located in a great neighborhood. Â Love the old stone houses next to the new contemporary homes. Â Great views and hidden gems.
Went for HH and had a lovely champagne cocktail for 5.00. Â Sampled a few small plates and whatever was ordered was very good. Â The only down side is I live too far away. Â I would love to go back sometime.
"What a fabulous happy hour you have", said Little Red Riding Hood.
"All the better to lure you in", replied the Cellar Wine Bar.
"And what delicious foods you have", said Little Red Riding Hood.
"All the better to make your tummy happy", replied the Cellar Wine Bar.
"And what amazing wines and wine cocktails you have", said Little Red Riding Hood.
"All the better to lower your inhibitions and make you have a good time", replied the Cellar Wine Bar.
"Are you sure you are my grandma's wine bar?" asked Little Red Riding hood.
"Come closer and find out", replied the Cellar Wine Bar.
Little Red Riding Hood crept closer, looked around and was amazed what she saw.
The Cellar Wine Bar was not her grandma's wine bar, but instead a small, intimate restaurant with amazing wines, awesome cocktails (Rossini) and food to please anyone. Â
Little Red Riding Hood decided to stay.
Cellar is now officially my favorite wine bar in Denver. I love the atmosphere, the service is always incredible, the happy hour has awesome deals, and it is in the best neighborhood in Denver. How can you go wrong really?
They updated their menu now too! They have small tapas plates in addition to the meat & cheese plates. Plus, wine cocktails! The Rossini is delicious.
We went here as part of Yelp Drinks, and they had some great drink specials for us. Â We also got some appetizers, (like we needed them at the end of the night, but delicious were they nonetheless I say in my best Yoda voice)
They've got a solid wine selection here, beautiful windows to people watch the drunkards walking home, and freindly staff. Â This is highly recommended for a wine bar, and I typically am not much of a fan of wine bars.
Came here for Yelp Drinks and had a great time. Â It's a bit small, but seems to have a pretty decent wine list. Â We had some meats and cheeses and those were very delicious!!
Staff was super friendly and I love the vibe of this place. Â I would definitely go back here! Â Just wish I lived closer :).
Oh, I really liked this place! What a romantic little spot in the Highlands. Â This is perfect for a date night I'm sure, or even a ladies night with the besties. Â The ambiance is amazing. Â Dim lit and intimate. Â The service was great. Â Our server was very knowledgeable of the menu and the wines.
I went for Yelp drinks week with a few other Yelpers, so I can't speak for what's on the wine list. Â I'm not sure what it was I had for my cocktail, but I loved it. Â It was for sure some sort of fantastic sparkling bubbly cocktail. Â I enjoyed two of those over a fantastic meat and cheese plate and other various tapas. Â The elk salami was so good. Â It had such a strong smoked flavor, I could have eaten it all, but I had to share. Â The manchego cheese was also one of my favorites as well as the Danablue. Â I am a sucker for cheeses that smell like socks!
I thoroughly enjoyed sitting at the long table looking out onto the street. Â The buses were going by and there were a lot of people out and about since it was a nice evening. Â This is the perfect people watching, staring out the window day dreaming place.
Great local joint, lovely affordable wine, and nice ambiance. Â Great tapas selection that pair nicely with wine. Â I love the location and when you walk by, the large pane glass windows are pretty and inviting. Â The staff is really friendly and knowledgeable so don't be afraid to ask questions if you are unsure about what type of wine to drink or cured meat to try.
They make these amazing grilled brussel sprouts with blue cheese. TRY THEM!!!!!!!
The ONLY reason I cannot give Cellar Wine Bar a full rating is their lack of a prominent sign!
I drove past this great place twice trying to find it-- only seeing "FROMAGGIO" on the front window. More than a bit confusing.
So- other than that oversight Cellar Wine Bar is a great spot.
I met up with Laura L. and 6 other fellow Denver Yelpers last night for some amazing tapas, wine, cocktails and conversation.
As I got there first- I had a few minutes to look over the menus and chat with the staff. Upon suggestion I ordered a glass of  their 2008 Castano Monastreli from Spain - which was offered at $5 for our group.
Good balanced red wine!
Laura L. and the rest showed up about 20 mins later- just intime for me to have had half the glass while listening to some Justice and people watching.
For a smallish space- they have done very good things with it.
Large windows and soft lighting give a very relaxed and open feeling.
So we ordered just about everything on their Tapas menu (thanks again Laura!!)
"Boutique" meats and cheeses were a hit with everyone in addition to nuts, olives and fruit.
For "dessert" I had one of the Burgandy Ale Cocktails= simply Burgandy wine and Ginger ale over ice- perfect.
Here is the link to my daily VLOG from our experience there:

I hope to enjoy Cellar Wine Bar with more friends sometime very soon!
Good tapas and great service.
Our waiter was knowledgeable on food and wine selections and was also friendly and attentive.
I read other reviews that mentioned scarce parking. Â I walked so it wasn't a problem but there is very little street parking available.
Happy Hour selections are a pretty good value.
I think this place is mostly for ladies...
That didn't really bother my boyfriend and me, however. The wine was great and the beer selection was decent as well. And I really appreciate half glasses of wine. I got Doña Paula Malbec (great) and a half glass of Infinite Monkey Theorem (interesting).
We got a meat and cheese platter. It's cute how they have you order it - kind of sushi style with a piece of paper and a small pencil. I think that for four items (we did two cheeses and two meats) $20 seems a little steep. They did include bread, olives, marcona almonds, and quince paste, but I still felt $20 was a bit much for the amount of food, especially meat, that we got. But I commend them for the types of cheese and meat that they offer. Elk salami, wild boar salami? Awesome.
So if you wander over to this place, remember that it's for ladies. Whether that deters you from going or if you don't care, I'll leave that up to you.
I think this might be one of my new favorite spots. Â While I can't comment on the wines themselves, I can comment on the wonderful service that we had during their Belgian Beer Tasting event. Â 6 Belgian beers paired with 6 different small dishes. Â A variety of cheeses, salami, oysters, a chocolate cayenne cookie, and a cupcake! Â While some of the food was brought in from neighboring places, I'd definitely come back for the cheese and meat.
This is a small place with decent selection of wines (including $5 wines by the glass during social hour 5-7pm) and a meat, cheese, and sweets menu where you can create your own platter.
This setting works for an intimate date spot or for a small group of friends.
Good neighborhood bar, wine selection is not vast but suitable for the size, that have a wonderful social hour with $5 glasses and half off the full glass list menu, they don't pour anything over $16 a glass.
They have a wonderful meat and cheese and dessert plates that  you can create yourself, the wild boar salami was very delicious
I love going to swanky wine bars, but sometimes I would rather down a $10 bottle of wine at home than a $10 glass of wine in a bar. Â Fortunately, my bargain-hunting friend, Kate G. invited me to Cellar Wine Bar for Ladies' Night last Tuesday. Â
The waiter was slow to get to us even though it wasn't completely packed. Â He told us about the Ladies' Night special, a $6 France flight. Â The first wine in the line up was a white Bordeaux that tasted suspiciously similar to Pinot Grigio. Â The second wine was a fruity Chardonnay that I really enjoyed, but my favorite was the Chablis. Â The smooth, light red was the perfect finish to the wine trio.
The waiter didn't notice that we had marked two desserts on our sushi-menu-like ordering sheet. By the time he came back to check on us, we were almost done with our wine and our better judgment had decided against dessert. Â He was apologetic, especially since he spent a lot of time earlier trying to convince us to order food.
The atmosphere is chic and urban, almost minimalistic, making it a soothing escape from a relaxing work week. I would like to give the Cellar Wine Bar four stars, but that seems too generous given the sub-par service and the fact that we didn't even eat there. Â I can't wait to go back!
Strayed from my loft in the LODO to check out a new wine bar in the LOHI. Â Probably an error on my part, but I hope against odds that a minority of the new establishments will impress me. Â The Wine Bar had a nice enough atmosphere and some appealing small meat and cheese plates. Â I was happy that they not only had an ample supply of wines by the glass, but also sold half glasses and wine flights. Â I had a nice half glass of an Oregon Pinot. Â Just as I was broaching being impressed, the big let down hit. Â I wanted to try an interesting by-the-glass red Loire Valley selection, but the bar tender advised he didn't want to open the bottle as they didn't sell much of this wine. Â In case you missed it, this was a wine that they had on the menu as being available by the glass. Â He then kept asking, "You understand, right?"
Apparently noticing my bemused expression, he quickly poured me an on-the-house sample of a "Pinot Noir Blend" that had such an over abundance of residual sugar that I could have grab a piece of an apple from the cheese plate and rolled a candy apple. Â Yuk! Â He commented that the ladies really like it. Â Now, there's a sales pitch for you. Â Was he mistaking my shaved head and unshaven jaw for a lady out on the town for a few drinks? Â I requested my check and departed immediately. Â
Nice addition to the neighborhood, but if your establishment is too "cost conscious" Â to open a bottle, please don't put it on the menu as being available by the glass. Â I'm staying put in the LODO for a while.
Wine, cheese, meat, and dessert....that is all you need!
I recently went for happy hour and everyone was very helpful. Â I love how you order the small plates, on a checklist (like a sushi menu).
Good deals on wine and beer. Â It does not open until right at 5, but they were happy to accomodate my early entrance! :) Â A great addition to the hood!
Dear Cellar Wine Bar,
I wouldn't have even known you existed had a not stumbled upon you last night while on my way to one of your neighbors. I was very impressed by the variety of wines on your menu and loved the flight options. (Especially the sake flight- I have never seen that done before.) Your staff was well educated about all of your wines and were super helpful without being overbearing. I also loved the sushi style ordering on your appetizer menu of meats, cheeses, and sweets. We tried the La Tur (yum!) and the Bleu de Lacqueuille (best blue cheese ever!) cheeses as well as the Prosciutto and Anchovies. Everything was a home run. I will definitely be back to visit again and hope more people have the good fortune of trying you out soon.
Sincerely,
A Wine Lover
