Unique destination hotel for a weekend getaway. Author named rooms, old English furnishings, make you forget your in the heart of forest park. Â Near the zoo, great pool with cabanas and drink service and covered parking. Continental breakfast was very upscale with fresh fruit, Danish, cereals and cheeses. Not your typical hotel but a fun one.
Review Source:Although an old hotel, has been remodeled.
Very helpful staff. Parking $7 per nite is just plain wrong.
Several restaurants on site.
Room was a tad dusty, AC works very well. Rooms are not entirely sound proof.
They have bikes and helmets for check out to ride in Forest Park.
Valet parking or park in there underground garage for $7.
Wifi is excellent.
Free Breakfast
My nephew was getting married, I booked a room for 2 nights 4 months ago. Parking options were expensive, I grabbed a spot open in the hotel owned restaurant lot next door. I immediately noticed the filthy glass in the front doors and the sticky, tacky feel of the handles and door. On the way to the slow, noisy and extremely hot elevator I was stunned to see that apparently a packed warehouse of heavy, ponderous 'olde' English furniture, artwork and knick knacks had thrown up in every square inch of space. The murky lighting and heavy dark woodwork created an utterly exhausting energy drain. I was stunned to discover my room hadn't been cleaned. There were used towels thrown over the ice bucket and in the bathroom. There was a spray bottle of cleaner left behind that obviously hadn't been used. The glass covering the tops of the furniture was filmy, smeared, greasy feeling and extremely dusty. The coffeemaker was covered with dust and large, greasy fingerprints. The floor was covered with dirty footprints and the carpet tacks sticking up from the line where carpet met floor was a painful touch. I was stuck several times. The sheets had not been changed and one of the pillows had the strong stench of dead fish. The heavy wood bed frame had whitish streaks, dribbles and smears. There was no soap, shampoo etc. There was hair all over the bathroom. I went back into the hellishly hot elevator and spoke to the desk person. It was after 9 p.m., I had just driven 7 hours and the thought of finding a different place in a strange city was not appealing. The desk person said he would send up a housekeeper immediately, apologized and comped half the rate for the night. A young man knocked on the door with a stack of towels. I asked him what that was about. He said he had no idea. I explained the situation, he came in and immediately commented that the room hadn't been cleaned in a long time and needed some serious detail cleaning. He told me there are no housekeeping people at night. He went to the front desk with me to confirm the condition of the room and the price was comped 100%. I refused to sleep on used sheets so this young man helped me change the bed. His eyes fell on the large spots and stains the same time mine did. Our eyes met as he asked, I wonder what that is? I said, oh, you know exactly what that is! We changed all the linen, he suggested I do not touch the throw. It gets worse! The air conditioning rattled constantly. And for some insane reason, probably the same reasoning behind the hideous decor and giant stuffed bear in the lobby, claws reaching out in warning to run, run! the bathroom lights, all 4 of them, are on a motion sensor with NO WAY TO TURN THEM OFF! Walk by, on they go, go in, on they go, go in at 3 a.m. and on they go, glaring, blaring light bouncing off the mirror and glass shower door, ensuring that you are now wide awake and can listen to the rattling AC the rest of the night. The next morning I had to attend the wedding rehearsal without a shower or even washing my face. I assumed that the desk person would make sure cleaning services were provided first thing in the morning. Nope. My room was not cleaned and supplied until 4:30 in the afternoon, 1 hour before I had to go to the rehearsal dinner. After the room was cleaned the glass remained smeared, the coffeemaker untouched, the ice bucket still had it's nice thick insulating layer of dust and the desk chair had little bits and pieces of something red, hard candy maybe, and pieces of cellophane. The lamps remained dusty and smeary. Â The shower is set in such a way that you have to get in to turn it on, no way to reach in and adjust the temperature before entering. And those lights! My God! I could have operated on myself. When I returned that evening other wedding attendees had arrived to discover their rooms in the same condition as mine. Several employees were in the hall trying to make peace. I snagged one to unscrew the lightbulbs in the bathroom asking him what the hell was going on with motion sensors in a hotel room bathroom. He laughed and said it was the owner's idea. I learned that several visitors for the wedding were furious and ready to check out except, as it was with me, they had come long distances and were utterly exhausted. On the very scant plus side- the mattress was very comfortable, the down pillows and comforter good quality. Complimentary breakfast was good, fresh fruit, sliced turkey and cheese, a variety of muffins, bagels and sweet rolls, bean roll ups, juices, tea and coffee. No one to replenish plates, coffee or wipe the eating areas. Guests had to go to the front desk to request items. Every guest for the wedding had a horrible experience. I was comped the full visit as were others. This place is disgustingly dirty, sticky, noisy and not worth even half the nightly rate.
Review Source:What a fun place! Â Really comfortable bed, and a great change from the boring cookie cutter chain hotel chains. Wolfgang Puck coffee and Aveda soaps and shampoos in the rooms.Great lobby and tavern...and the free continental breakfast was great [ how often does that happen? ]
This place is unique and has an amazing unexpectedly fun little gem! We loved the theme and the style!
Overall we are fans. Â The atmosphere is unique for sure. Â
The WiFi is free, and very inconsistent. Â I'm amazed how hotels these days advertise "Free WiFi", but it is always sub standard. Â This hotels comment; "we're very busy" is just plain BS. Â You know what I mean.
The free breakfast is situated in an area that is very tight and hard to move around. Â They need to find a better location. Â The food is good though, cold with one hot item. Â Very English of course. Â Tea and coffee is free all day.
Great pool area and great patio for breakfast.
The pub is really good, but very small. Â There are two other restaurants on site. Â
Very well located on Clayton Road next to I64 ramp. Â Also close to lots of other stuff in Clayton and downtown Clayton.
If this was in the UK it would be 6* I'm sure. Â Here 4*. Â We'll be back. Â Plus there are plenty of ways to get rooms on discount, just check around.
During a major snow storm in the city, it was decided that we would have a party at the Fox and Hound and then hold up in The Cheshire that night.
Maybe the best night ever!
After enjoying the Fox and Hound for a few hours, got a room at the Cheshire and it was just wonderful. The bed are huge, conformable and a pleasure to stay the night in. The room was decorated wonderfully and everything was just perfect. It was a perfect place to stay warm with the snow storm outside.
Since I had to go to work the next morning, a perfect shower and quick breakfast downstairs was added (no extra charge) and by then the valet had my car ready and already warm. Will return for one of the theme rooms in the future.
I don't usually write reviews for hotels, but I figured 'why not'. Â My wife and I live near Memphis, TN and decided to go on a mini-vacation. Â As silly as it may sound, we decided on St. Louis because we had never been and heard about some of the great food places in and around the city -- plus, St. Louis is only about a 3.5 - 4 hour drive. Â I used Priceline to secure our hotel, and we were given The Cheshire. Â After reading some of the reviews and checking the website, I was pleasantly surprised that we would be staying in such a nice location for only $80/night. Â I was tempted to give it 4-stars because the amenities and the service was good, but there is one glaring issue will prevent me from ever staying here again.
Service/s & Amenities: Everyone we encountered while we were at The Cheshire was friendly and courteous. Â The services provided, such as the tea time, the breakfast, and the other amenities were top notch. Â The in-room amenities were fantastic. Â The bed was incredibly comfortable; the linens were soft, plush, and great to wrap around your body; and the copious amount of electrical outlets built-in to the tables and desks was a really great convenience.
Some of the not so greats in terms of service/s & amenities: The bathroom light was on a motion sensor...but no way to turn off the motion sensor capabilities. Â This is pretty cool, but not when it is 1 AM, you have to go the bathroom, and you have a 22 month old in a pack and play directly across from the bathroom. Â The light woke her up almost every time. Â This was a serious issue, and based on the configuration of the room, it was impossible to place her in an area that wasn't disturbed by light.
Parking: This was a f-ing nightmare. Â I usually don't use strong languages in my reviews unless it seriously warrants it. Â This aspect of the our experience, definitely warrants it. Â This hotel is attached to a very popular restaurant -- The Fox and Hound. Â Unfortunately, the valet people are COMPLETE, and ABSOLUTE IDIOTS. Â They drive recklessly through the garage (literally -- no exaggeration -- almost slammed into me and my wife while we were finding a parking space because they were going the WRONG WAY). Â There are convenient arrows on the floor that shows the direction traffic should go, but they decided to completely ignore them, and zoomed around a corner at an extremely unsafe speed, and almost smoked us. Â Unacceptable, and completely ridiculous. Â I understand that there is a temptation to drive fast when you are valet-ing a Mercedes, but that is no excuse to risk others safety. Â
Parking some more: Exiting and entering the garage was a nightmare for the above reasons, and several others. Â There are few parking spaces, navigating through the idling valet cars is a nightmare, along with navigating through the traffic of drunk patrons driving in and out of the neighboring restaurant. Â I will never stay at this hotel again because of the parking...NEVER. Â Between the idiot valet service, their dangerous practices, and the awful entering and exiting associated with this hotel, it is not worth the stress, the hassle, and near-death experience.
Overall Service / Amenities score: 2 / 5 (4 /5 minus 2 for an abysmal parking situation)
Atmosphere: It is too bad the parking situation above is so awful, because the atmosphere of this hotel is charming and magnificent. Â You will never have another experience like this, unless you go to England (which I have been on multiple occasions). Â It is extremely quaint, well themed, and very cozy. Â My wife thinks that "They really take a theme and ROLL with it". Â
Atmosphere: 5 / 5 (incredibly unique -- unlike anything you will experience in the States)
Price: I cannot really comment here because I used Priceline and got an incredibly low rate of $80. Â When I checked the website afterwards, they were selling the same room on their website for $150. Â So, I got almost a 50% savings. Â I love Priceline! Â
Price: 5 / 5 with Priceline (3/5 if buying regular price)
Final Impressions: I am incredibly saddened by the horrific parking issues we encountered. Â This was the most charming hotel I have ever stayed at with genuine personality and comfort built-into its roots. Â I would recommend experiencing this place for yourself, but beware of the absolute nightmare that parking is between the hours of 4:30 PM and 11:00 PM. Â It is far to awful and dangerous for me to ever go back.
I don't routinely visit St. Louis but I'm pretty sure I won't stay anywhere else next time. I had such an excellent experience staying at The Cheshire this past weekend. The staff was so incredibly accommodating, kind and considerate. I felt like it was some true southern hospitality. Here the rundown ...
Food - I only had the continental breakfast; he fruit and the pastries were fresh and tasty. This might not mean much to some but I REALLY appreciated the fact that they have Tea Forte for the tea drinkers. I'm so sick of going to places with a crappy tea option.
Rooms - Clean, extremely comfortable beds and Aveda in the bath.
Service - I was in town for some unfortunate circumstances and needed some space to make some flower arrangements and knew it could be a bit of a mess and the room might not have been the best place to do it. A member of the staff that I ran into in the parking garage really came to our aid with getting us a room arranged on the spot, helped us with getting everything up and checked up on us if he could get us anything ... I don't find that this happens at most places and his assistance and generosity really made an impact on me. Thank you sir who I don't remember your name, sorry!
Lastly, I really loved that the rooms were based on authors and poets. I was in the JM Barrie room who was the author of Peter Pan. Such an excellent touch!
Thank you Cheshire for an excellent and pleasant stay.
This hotel is the poster child for great management. It's location and even to some extent exterior might make the casual passerby blow it off. Once inside its warm. Very clean and you feel like you are in some secluded spot. We will be back without a doubt. Â Its easy to just walk over to Forest Park and they were very cool with having pets. Â Only downside is navigating the underground parking garage...it's very tight and spaces are narrow. Â Getting in and out w/out scraping my car was a major achievement...valet may be worth the few extra bucks.
Review Source:I mixed it up a bit on a recent trip to STL and stayed at The Cheshire instead of downtown...
The Cheshire is an older hotel (dating back to the 1920s), but much more charming than some of the large chains I've stayed at in the past. Â It's got an authentic British pub feel to it and recently underwent some major renovations from what I gather.
I had a very pleasant stay, albeit a quick one - just one night. Â I found the hotel to be centrally located and easy to access. Â The staff was friendly enough, the room was clean, the bed was comfortable, there was free wifi, and there were Aveda toiletries in the bathroom!
Best of all, the moderate room rate included a pretty decent continental breakfast in the morning and a couple of bottles of water in my room too! Â I stayed in the Mark Twain room, which was very pleasant. Â There appears to be all kinds of novelty suites available upon request as well. Â
If you're looking for a non-corporate chain hotel with some character, The Cheshire is A-OK in my book!
What a disappointment! My husband and I traveled to St. Louis from about 2 1/2 hrs away to take our little boy (18 months old) to visit Grants Farm. We normally stay at the Four Seasons but wanted to try something different this time. So, we call on our way and the receptionist talked us into getting the most expensive room (The death on Nile or some shit)...because "it was so great". It overlooked the pool, had a separate room (where our son could sleep while we watched tv), Jacuzzi tub, etc. So, we arrive 2 hrs after I hung up the phone and try to check in. They had to inspect some things in the room before we could check in so, we waited for about 15 to 20 min. The room was upstairs 2nd floor. I don't think it was worth the $350 per night and here is why:
-No help hauling our luggage to room
-luggage rack barely fit thru the doorway
-no refrigerator in the room (for my son's milk) - could have spent $10 and they would have brought one to the room
-1 room, no separate room like we were told
- hair balls all over the room
- the parking garage wasn't even tall enough that we could open the back hatch to our vehicle to unload everything
Other than that, the hotel was ok. Definitely not fit for children.
BF and I had a mini stay-cation here during Loufest, and It was wonderful in every way. Â You can't beat the central location in the heart of St Louis close to major roads, landmarks, and amenities. Â It is beyond boutique and well on the way to charming and distinctive. Â
We were given a comp upgrade to a junior suite, the Lord Byron Room. Â A charming, comfortable space with an amazingly huge, soft bed and clean, modern bathroom. Â There is poetry and historical art on the walls, so over the top it's funny and kitschy. Â I had to steal the "Do Not Disturb" to take home for my own bedroom door as it reads "Do Not Even Consider Knocking Unless you are the Queen Herself" on it....it was just paper, but sorry Cheshire! Â
Complimentary breakfast buffet in the morning is simple but nice. Good coffees, teas, and a variety of juices and milks to drink. Â To eat there is plenty of quality fresh fruit, cereal, pastries, bagels, yogurt, and hot breakfast sandwiches, even after the buffet was technically over. Â Lots of late sleepers after Loufest, I suppose! Â
I do wish that they had a shuttle as we were just headed to the park, but a cab was under $10. Â We thought about taking the cute, old school bicycles available to use free of charge, but I did not think that I was going to be able to make my way back after a long day at the fest...
We spent one day at their outdoor pool. Â It's a smaller space, but well maintained with the perfect temperature water, beautiful landscaping, and attentive waitstaff for food and drink. Â
We hired a dog sitter, but I noticed that the hotel is dog friendly and many patrons take advantage of that- though all of the dogs I saw were very well behaved. Â
It really felt like we were out of town for a few days and we did not want out time to end. Â We will be back!
Ok, I've been debating whether or not to give The Cheshire 3 stars or 4 stars. Â I really want to give it 3.5 stars, but of course Yelp doesn't have that option. Â I was recently in St. Louis on business and decided to stay at The Cheshire. Â I was an English major in college and I'm a bit of a book nerd so this hotel was right up my alley. Â Each room is named after a British author, poet, or playwright. Â You get a bookmark to take home with the name of the author, poet, or playwright whose room you are in. Â There is also a book with their work in your room. Â It's a cute and unique touch, for sure.
When I arrived, parking was a giant pain in the butt. Â Then I had to wait forever for the elevator in the thousand degree heat parking garage. Â When I got to the front desk, the staff was very friendly. Â Check in was quick, but not quick enough for me. Â I wanted to take a power nap before my work get together, but had to wait for the front desk clerk to finish explaining about all the authors and such as well as my bookmark. Â She also went into great detail about how my room was upgraded to overlook the pool. Â Frankly, the upgrade did not matter to me since I was there on business and wouldn't be spending too much time in my room. Â The sitting area was quaint and quite lovely. Â It really did remind me of an old English home with all the wood, leather couches and fireplace.
When I got to my room, I thought it was spacious. Â The bed was comfortable and the desk was big enough for my laptop and papers. Â Free Wifi was a definite plus. Â I did have some major issues with the room though. Â One being the dirty bathroom. Â There was lots of different strands of hair on the bathroom floor and in the tub. Â Now I know it wasn't my hair since I just got there. Â It definitely grossed me out. Â The other problems kept me up for most of the night. Â The air conditioner was SO loud! Â The other issue was the stupid sensor lights in the bathroom. Â They would not turn off and since the bathroom door was glass, I could see them on all night. Â If you are going to have sensor lights, at least have instructions on how to disconnect them for situations like this because I was ready to rip it out of the ceiling.
Overall, my experience wasn't horrible. Â Breakfast in the morning was good and I would give The Cheshire another chance. Â I just hope that next time, my bathroom is actually hairless and the sensor light is off.
What a great hotel experience. Fantastic charm in the lobby; you feel like you've stepped back in time. Â I set up my "office" on an overstuffed leather couch in front of a massive fireplace and got lots of work done. Â Baroque music plays softly in the background. Â Lovely old English style that's surprisingly not obnoxious at all. Â My room was clean and modern; they renovated not long ago. Â Great access to Saint Louis.
Review Source:I wanted something other than the generic cookie cutter hotel for a short vacay to STL and this was a PERFECT choice! Â All of the old wood and furnishings and the stuffed bear, it was totally wacky and great at the same time. Â It even had a smell about it that added to the crazy charm. Â
The room we had had two queen beds which made the room a little tight, but not bad. Â The bathroom was clean, the beds VERY comfortable. Â We were there three nights, but didn't want cleaning, just clean towels and garbage tossed and they were very acomodating. Â Aveda toiletries were very nice and they gave us a tube of toothpaste (Colgate) when I forgot ours. Â The room had a single cup coffee maker with Wolfgang Puck coffee. Â The TV (DirecTV) was fine, but some channels had no sound, which was strange but not a deal breaker. Â The only real negative about the room was there was no fridge/microwave. Â I did ask for a fridge on our second day and they brought us one pretty quickly but it wasn't clean and I got the impression we were lucky to get it so I didn't complain. Â
The pool was an outdoor pool, which was kinda nice to have on a hot day! Â Other people have commented that it is nice, and it was. Â They even had some noodles and things for the kids to play with. Â The only concern was that there was a gate that opened to the front of the hotel and various people came in and out through it and it would be a safety concern for small kids. Â
The location of this hotel for things in Forrest Park is PERFECT! Â It's a very short drive to the Zoo and on a good day it would be great to ride the bikes there. Â It's also a short drive to the Science Center/Planetarium. Â There is a Schnucks grocery store not far west on Clayton for all of your snack/drink needs. Â There are tons of great food choices in the neighborhood. Â There is a LOT of construction going on on an outbuilding they are renovating for an event space which makes getting to this hotel kinda wonky. Â You HAVE to enter from Clayton ONLY. Â The alley or the little side street won't get you there. Â
All in all we had a great time during our stay and wouldn't have a problem with coming back on our next trip.
This has been my favorite hotel I have ever stayed at but the housekeeping was horrible! Found a sock in our children's room, cleaned the ice bucket and tray that had food stuck on it, the desk and phone were not clean, had dust and food crumbs on it, dishes and empty booze bottles around the hotel but here we go, I LOVED it! The decor was fun, different and the staff was awesome! The pool is small but I didn't care I loved the cabanas that were free and they had these huge pots that lite up at night. The decor was fabulous and so down to the theme. Free bikes to ride to the park that was across the street. that had lots of trails and ponds. Breakfast area was small and only one hot item but who cares. You can enjoy your meal outside on their beautiful brick patio. There were lots of tables and chairs inside and out to enjoy the atmosphere and I also heard the food was delicious.
I will cetainly miss my stay and I would definitely stay there again!
This place is just so bizarre and fantastic all at once. Â You feel like Tim Curry will pop out in a butler costume at any point circa Clue. Â The British literature theme is over the top, but really well done with only real deal items, etc. Â The rooms are clean and modern eclectic (mixing together common hotel amenities well with kitchy antique items). Â There's a massive taxidermied bear in the lobby and an amazing free breakfast too. Â Also, you are right off route 66 which is pretty cool.
One warning, this is a little outside of downtown St. Louis, and it is a little bit difficult to get into town, but not too hard if you have a car and don't mind the metro. Â But, in my opinion, it is well worth it! Â There's nothing quite like it.
I travel a lot....Most weeks of the year for work. And unlike the previous post I will take Hilton. While I think they have a unique concept ---- housekeeping really lacks. I walked in and it was hard to tell that they made the bed ---- it was that bad. Rather than lining the trashcans they hung the bags over the cans, really do you think I am going to line them ---- I think not. Then the dirty sock in the room ---- YUCK! The parking situation needs some work too. But the people at the front desk last night were quite friendly and the fitness center is one of the best I have seen, thus 2 stars rather than 1 star. Poor housekeeping in a hotel doesn't sit well with me.
Review Source:I travel a LOT. Most of it's for work so when I get a chance to play it's good-bye Hilton, hello boutique! And this, this magnificent, glorious, decadent hotel was just what the doctor ordered!
First, they are so accommodating. I want to say it's the St. Louis charm, but I really think the hotel really requires the kind of service you get from everyone here. It's divine.
Walked in and opened the door and, boy, did I suck in my breath. The room is large and so beautifully done that you may not ever want to mess the bed up. The headboard in my room (and I care nothing for the kitschy themed rooms, so let's move past that utter fail) was made from an old fireplace, or at least that's what it looked like to me. It had the most gorgeous chair and just everything was so perfect. The bathroom. Oh my. So beautiful. I can't say enough about the room. The bed would have been in the back of my Uhaul (helping a friend move cross-country) had getting it out not been so OBVIOUS. Ugh. It was by far the best bed I've ever had the pleasure of sleeping on. I'll trade you mine. Please.
The best part of this hotel is that you have so many things to do in such a small amount of space. There's a courtyard where I sat outside and watched my friend's dogs play (so peaceful), there's the pool where you can have beer brought out to you! What? Yes! Also, dogs stay free! Gratis! They love them!
They also have this fabulous little pub inside with the best food. Seriously. Grass-fed burger? It will make you sell your vegetarian soul, or you'll feel like a gastronomical heaven just opened up and rained unicorns and bacon and THE best cheese down on your head. Hallelujah.
Please also try the beer Arrogant Bastard. I've been combing Vegas for it since I returned home. I will be victorious or I will move to St. Louis. Also, the girl bartender who SEEMS stand-offish, is actually very witty and absolutely beyond helpful. You'll love her if you get close enough.
Just be careful that you don't valet, it's costly and not worth it. Parking is plentiful and easy.
I have stayed in many, many places, but this economical beauty in the best part of St. Louis stole my heart right out of my chest. Keep it, I'll be back for it soon.
Summertime is here!!!! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Cheshire for making my first summer back in MO one to look forward too! This has become my favorite new place to sip and sun poolside....along with my girlfriend and friends. The poolside service is extremely attentive, my drinks never run dry and thankfully, neither do I!!!! I was thankful to find a pool in STL that offered bar service and the best surprise was no day pass fee!!! I would recommend it to anyone but I fear once the secret's out, it will get too crowded;)
Review Source:The Cheshire was a great place to stay for our 4 day trip to St. Louis. The location was perfect: right along the highway and nestled into the gorgeous Clayton neighborhood. It was easy to get anywhere we wanted to go from this spot. The staff was always friendly and helpful.
The English Tea service involves an open selection of Tea Forte teas (very high quality) - I was happy to see this! Not only that but they provided cute little glass containers of honey. And the breakfast selection was just right. Lots of freshly cut fruit: pineapple, cantaloupe, honeydew, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, grapes and strawberries; a selection of pastry items, cereal, bagels and a hot item with meat (breakfast burrito or biscuit...watch out vegetarians-these are not for you!). Perfect way to start the day.
The room was pretty small but cozy. I liked having a stained glass lead-paned window in the room. The bed frame is kinda dangerous, I have some bruises from squeezing by the bed and accidentally hitting my shin or leg as I passed the corners. The bedding was down or down-like material. Very nice. The bathroom was small with minimal countertop space and didn't have any ventilation for the steam. But the hotel provides AVEDA products for patrons to use. This was a wonderful surprise-I love the rosemary mint type.
Beware of parking past 8pm! The underground parking garage fills up! We had a lot of trouble finding a spot each of the three nights! Good thing we drive a small car: one night we had to collapse our side mirrors and squeeze between two pillars-not sure if it was even a "parking spot". Also be careful entering the garage because you will have to drive on the lefthand side-maybe its part of the European theme? They seem to be doing some renovations so I hope that maybe they'll paint parking lines or something to improve the parking situations.
The pet accommodations are somewhat annoying. The guest neighboring our room left their pooch alone and it barked for a good 20 minutes. Nothing more annoying than an unattended barking dog.
Overall a great stay and I'd recommend it if you take a trip to STL!
This hotel is the best! It's clean, comfortable, in a great location and fun! The room themes were really cool and nicely done. My husband and I stopped in for a night on our way cross country. We were upgraded to a huge suite with a large jacuzzi tub and king bed. The bed was so comfortable, I didn't want to get up in the morning! I did though, and was served an awesome complimentary buffet breakfast with tons of fresh fruit, bagels, pastries and breakfast burritos. A great start to our day!
The staff was so helpful and pleasant and the hotel even accepted our little dog! Not only would we stay here again, but I really wouldn't want to stay anywhere else in St. Louis! The tavern was really great too!
Awesome! Our dog was a welcome guest too. Very clean and comfortable, beautiful stained glass windows, fun decor and a delicious breakfast! I wrote all about it here - http://wp.me/p1cn3Q-sd
Review Source:I am only reviewing the bar/restaurant for the Cheshire, I didn't stay in any rooms so I can't comment on that. Â The newly renovated hotel and bar/lounge/pool were REALLY nice. Â Watch out for the old bear in the lobby.
We came in on a cool fall evening to enjoy some appetizers and drinks and ended up staying for dinner! Â We tried just about everything on the small menu. Â The wings were excellent - big and juicy with very good seasoning and sauce. Â The house frites came with an excellent aoili (I'm a sucker for a good aoili) and were fried to perfection. Â For dinner, I had the pulled chicken sandwich - which als was a pleasant suprise. Â I really liked the barbeque sauce they used. Â They had a nice draft beer selection and the bar was really rustic feeling.
We sat outside in the courtyard and even though no one else was there they were kind enough to get a nice little fire started in the firepit. Â This is a great little Best Kept Secret, but I have a feeling it won't be for long. Â Can't wait to go back and hang out in the bar and sip some scotch.
The service at The Cheshire was truly excellent and the newly remodeled rooms were clean, comfortable and well appointed. Â I was a little leery when I looked at the pictures on line because of the "themey" feel, but in fact, the hotel is tasteful, has character and the rooms are on par, or slightly nicer, than a Westin.
Review Source:This was almost an okay hotel for the price. Â Some of the staff were wonderful, while some were not so wonderful. Â
The hotel is very classy and elegantly decorated. Â The artworks is fantastic, as are the tables, chairs, couches, etc. Â It's absolutely beautiful. Â
The room was very nicely decorated and very clean. Â The beds are very high, so if someone staying there has hip or leg problems, they'll need help getting on the bed. Â The beds were extremely comfortable. Â Be careful in the morning, if you walk too close to the bed, there's a wooden square that sticks a few inches out from the mattress and blankets. Â If you're not careful, you'll slam your knee right into it. Â I still have the scab lol!
Another thing they could work on is the air conditioning. Â It's so loud that if you have the tv on, the volume has to be close to the max to hear it, then you need to turn it down when the air turns off because it's too loud! Â I read in old reviews that people were complaining about the noise from the air conditioning and I thought "as long as it works, who cares." Â Well, you should listen to it before staying here.
When we checked in we were treated very nicely. Â Their pet fee is extremely reasonable, and they give you a pet bed, leash, coupon for Purina dog food, and treats for your dog. Â Very cool for the $25.
In the morning we came down to see what was available at the "Full English Breakfast" advertised on their site. Â It was cereal, an empty tray that once contained fruit, and racks that once held muffins, pastries, and pound cake slices. Â All that was left were a few grapes, a muffin, and cereal. Â We asked if they could refill the breakfast items, and about 10 minutes later the fruit was refilled, but nothing else was. Â We ended up going out for breakfast. Â The coffee was horribly bitter and burnt tasting, but the last night of our stay it had improved, and the breakfast was fully stocked with a delicious poppy seed pound cake. Â The website now states "Complimentary Euro-Continental Breakfast featuring coffee, juice, pastries and hot breakfast selections" but there were no hot breakfast selections any morning of our 3-night stay.
In the morning they were out of more than half of the teas they had the night before, so I asked if they had any more. Â The lady said she would go check. Â I waited about 7 minutes before I went to the desk to see what happened, to find the lady that said she would check standing behind it. Â I walked up, she looked at me and said "Hi, can I help you?" Â She had completely forgotten. Â Oh well, I asked a manager when they would be getting more, he said he'd ask the kitchen when more would be arriving, he came back, walked right passed me, and continued what he had been doing before. Â Ok, I know it's no big deal for you, but since your coffee sucks I was hoping for a normal black tea instead of the herbals you have left. Â Sorry my stay inconvenienced you
There was a special area you could walk your dog outside where they had grass, a tree, and a fake fire hydrant. Â It was a cute idea, but they didn't clean the wine/cocktail glasses from the tables the night before, and if any of them had fallen my dog and I would have been walking all over broken glass, or going out the front door and down the street.
We got back from the wedding we were in town for, and had to park down the street because the parking lot was full of restaurant patrons. Â I recommend having spots reserved for hotel guests so we don't have to walk down the road, through puddles in my suit and my wife's high heels and formal dress. Â I guess we should just be happy we weren't checking in and dragging our bags that far!
The pool is in the middle of a bunch of tables where people are drinking and socializing. Â If you plan on swimming for exercise, plan on splashing everyone out at the tables.
We never received the complimentary chocolates mentioned on their website.
To be fair, they asked if there was anything they could improve upon when we left, and we said no. Â We said no because my mother-in-law was with us and would scream and holler that we shouldn't complain.
We have stayed at Embassy Suites hotels before for less money and were much happier. Â For $99 Embassy had an open bar at night, and a breakfast that included sausage, bacon, made-to-order omelettes, pancakes, waffles, etc.
If I had not been told a full English breakfast would be served, or if the breakfast items had been stocked when we went down, this would've been a 3-star review. Â If I had paid $79 a night, it would be a 5-star review. Â I am reviewing the experience staying there as a whole, not just the room, not just the breakfast, but our 3 days there. Â I just feel that the price I paid didn't return a stay of the same caliber. Â
Hopefully they can address these issues and their staff so that people staying there can have a more pleasant experience in the future. Â I, however, will not be one of them as I won't be returning to this hotel.
