The atmosphere is pretty cool. Most of the live acts are awesome. They're not exactly setup as a restaurant so ordering and receiving food takes awhile. The burgers are top notch.
When it comes to the bar the drinks sucks and I'd stick to beer. I ordered a top shelf mix drink and a well drink on special. They tasted the same and were both small and overpriced.
II really wish I could give Czar more than 3 stars, but a couple things happened during the visit that can't be ignored.
I had never been to Czar before, and a friend invited me out for the Midwest Takeover benefit they had last Friday. I thought it would be an awesome time to check out some local music, and a bar I had never been to. We got there a little too early for the benefit and ended up drinking and chatting. I loved the layout of the bar. Kind of divey, but it was clean enough, they had a decent beer selection, and the food menu looked reasonable. The decor was odd; I had a painting above my head that had some weird toxic waste symbols on it.
It took the server about 30 minutes to get to our table. I would have gone to the bar, but I showed up to my group later, and they assured me that we did have a server. Once he took our order he came back pretty quickly. For the next hour we had decent service from this guy, and then the benefit started. We only saw a guy who kept trying to take our half filled beers and half eaten food at that point.
We watched the first band, and they were pretty amazing. (Check out Eyelit and support local music!) The second "filler" band was so horrible I had to leave. They sounded like every garage band I listened to in high school that somehow was heavily influenced by Primus and smooth jazz. I imagined titles of their songs to be something like "my roommate walked into my room unannounced" or "Whoops my landlord forgot I didn't pay this months rent". In-between songs they kept asking the sound guy to turn them up, and I kept begging for the sound guy to turn them down!
When it came time to leave I realized waiting for my tab would never happen so I went up to the bar, and realized that my server was now the only bartender/server with the help of someone doing dishes and picking up glasses. Sorry guys on a night like this you really need WAY more help. If I wouldn't have felt horrible about it I could have easily walked out without paying. Knowing that I could have done this means that at least one person in the bar that evening probably did. Not a good way to make money.
All and all I would really like to go back to Czar during a time they don't have a benefit planned. If they managed to staff properly for the benefits it would have been 4-5 stars all the way.
I have been here a couple of times to see bands. Â It is a great venue. There isn't a lot of seating but plenty of space to stand. Regardless of where you are the stage is prominent and the sound is good.
The drinks are priced well enough. But the food is terribly overpriced. $10 for a hamburger without a side? I ordered it because I was hungry and expected it to knock my socks off. Not really. It was good but not worth the price.
I really like Czar as a music venue and will continue to go to see bands. I will definitely drink but will stick with appetizers if hunger strikes.
We were looking for somewhere to have dinner and drinks before the concert and after looking through the options in the area decided to try Czar. We met early and when we walked in no one was there, but as soon as we walked in the place had a feel that I knew I would like.
The music playing while we were there was great. Kind of a rock, alternative, bluesy mix that was perfect for my tastes. A young man also played live and he was fantastic (I wish I could remember his name!) Another band was getting ready to play as we were getting ready to leave, I know of the band and would have loved to hear them, but Aerosmith was calling. Based on the music playing in when we got there and the live options, I have to give them 5 stars for music.
The food was good. We had burgers, humus and deviled eggs. The burgers were perfectly juicy. I would say they need some seasoning and a little less bun, more burger/toppings. The hummus was well blended, but also needs some seasoning. The little cheese ball thing that also came on the plate was fantastic, especially when paired with the peppers and asparagus on the pieces of bread. Finally the deviled eggs were fantastic. They were topped with some smoked salmon and the combination of ingredients in the yolks was perfect. I would be at a mid 3 star for the food.
Although we just stuck with the special on tap ($2 PBRs), they have quite a few beer options and the selection was impressive.
The artwork on the walls was cool. The guy working (bartender? owner? not sure) said they switch it out monthly for first Fridays. I like the support of local artists and the community.
Overall I found Czar a great bar for my tastes and one of the best options to avoid the P&L.
(I did not select an option for "Good for kids" as it is a bar, but they do also serve food and there were some children there while we were. I think this is a personal choice, definitely lunch or maybe early in the evening to eat would be acceptable, but remember this is a bar.)
Super cool place. Great laid back vibe. We loved our food.
We split the best burger and an order of chips. Really as a Midwesterner what more could you ask for? Meat, potato, beer. The food pyramid. They also have tons of live music.
Cool place to bring Outta Towner's as well. My sister is from Austin and we are always looking for places to show her we can do it right here too. Czar goes on the list.
I ventured over to Czar bar earlier this week because I saw they were having a chocolate and wine tasting event. My sister and I went to check it out and though the turn-out wasn't very great, the service was spectacular. Our barista (hey, it's what they're called in Italy at least) was pleasant and non-intrusive. She let us go at our own speed while sharing her knowledge about the wine pairings. It was such a fun event, I can't wait to go back again. She casually mentioned their on-going specials throughout the week and can't wait to check out some bands and this "best cheeseburger" they claim to have. I really liked the vibe of Czar bar. Laid back, yet classy. Can't wait to go back.
Review Source:We went to Czar on a Thursday afternoon with a Groupon. We were the only people int he bar so I can't comment on the scene much, but I did enjoy my time here. The food was fantastic and not at all what I expected from a bar - hummus, deviled eggs, BBQ sandwiches - all were fantastic. The only reason I gave them 4 stars rather than 5 is because they were out of the beers we wanted that were advertised on their chalk board. Don't get me wrong, they had an awesome selection. I love micro-brews and they had some great ones, but it would have been nice to be able to order what was advertised.
I would go back.
Went to Czar for a concert, and was pleasantly surprised. I was a little hesitant because of the outside, but don't judge a book by its cover! We ordered wings and a couple of beers, and although we had a much longer wait for our wings than what we were initially told, they were worth the wait! Also, because of the long wait, the bartender even bought our next round of drinks. I will definitely be back.
Review Source:I really, really like Czar Bar. My history with Czar goes back to a bizarre evening where I somehow lost three hours. Seriously, I tried to rebuild the evening from Yelp checkins but to no avail. I may have been abducted.
There was this Russianesque band at Czar but you know, now that I think about it, it could have been Maroon 5 for all I know. So that was years ago and I never wrote a review. It really wouldn't be fair to write a review of a place I'd been to during a time period where I may or may not have been taken by aliens.
I've been many times since and I'm happy to say I remember every one of them. Each time was for a show of some sort, wait, and there was even a Yelp event there. The overall vibe remains the same while the overall attitude seems to be more polished than it used to be. I remember thinking during my first few visits that it was kind of the wild west of drinking establishments. It was possible to get a drink but there was no real order to it and it took a little bit of work.
Not anymore. When I went last Saturday, the bartenders were all over the place. Not literally, I think there were only two but they filled that bar like there were twice as many of them. The drinks were well-done and they had a great selection of whiskeys, whiskys, scotches, bourbons, (and the other stuff), and beers.
Well done Czar.
Czar is a fine music venue with a wealth of spirits. It can't hold too many peeps, so I suppose it could get sardine-ish here when crowded past about 100 or so.
Czar is hosting food truck chefs to serve lunch for the last few weeks. I hope they continue that. Between Magical Meatball and The Good You, they are serving some good vittles. So you can get your early fix and your late fix here. : )
Only went there on a First Friday for music and drinks. Â Good beer selection; found booth seating at the back near the window (most comfortable seating in the house). Â In between Crossroads and Power & Light--great central location. Crowd was mostly 30-somethings; it has a laid-back atmosphere.
Review Source:One of my favorite bars in KC.  Not only do they make the best Gin & Tonic in town they have now added  excellent food to their repertoire. Their chef, Cesar has taken his culinary levels to new heights with a fresh take on a traditional favorite; the meatball.
Tuesdays he brings this level of enthusiasm to include a completely new spin on none other than Chicken and Waffles. No you didn't misunderstand me. Â And if you are anything like me any version of chicken and waffles is a good version of chicken and waffles.
If you want to an environment that is hip without being pretentious, offering an excellent variety of spirits at more than reasonable prices and food that will leave you wanting more, might I suggest giving this KC gem a look-see
Czar has made a few changes in the past year that have really made me take another look at them. Â To begin with, I hear they now have whole new owners. Â I know for sure they have a whole new menu a-la Magical Meatball Tour, and the bar seems to be well stocked with liquors and beers and wines, oh my!
Some of my favorite things about a bar include the obvious: Drink and beer lists, staff, and atmosphere. Â Czar now meets all of the criteria. Â They have a great beer list and some pretty fantastic cocktails. Â If you arrive with an appetite, they have the cities best veggie meatballs. Â Black bean and sweet potato! Â I love meat and most things that you can do with it; now I also like the way they imitate it (or at least how they imitate a traditional way to serve it). Â The actual meaty meat balls are dang tasty too, so everyone can enjoy this kitchen specialty.
The staff is great, they really take ownership of the bar and tables. Â The atmosphere is real cool too. Â I love the way they have repainted the south wall. Â I'm not sure how they did it, but it looks like someone spent about a month with about 10K cans of spray paint, applying one line at a time. Â There is art hanging on the walls which I would assume rotates with different artist and sales, and the space just seems more comfortable than it did before (or I just enjoyed myself more considering a gnashing selections and improved beer list). Â If you are inclined to enjoy a live performance from time to time, they have a great performance space with plenty of room for jigging by audience members, should the music move you.
I'm a fan and I will certainly be back, especially to check out what I hear is a pretty good happy hour.
CZAR is still CZAR, but now they have partnered with The Magical Meatball Tour and are hell bent on world domination.
The meat ball subs come in many different forms and are exactly what this establishment was missing. Â My favorite are the Bleu Balls, meat balls soaked in Zim's Buffalo Sauce (another locally based and delicious product) covered with bleu cheese and coleslaw. Â Other options are the Mexican-inspired Matador Balls, Mac and Cheese Balls and the vegetarian friendly Green Balls. Â Sometimes special events inspire special one-night-only balls. Trust me, you'll love these balls.
Add this to the already awesome CZAR beer and cocktail collection and you can't lose.
Note: Â Meatballs are currently only available Wednesday during lunch and all day Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Â Sometimes special events call or a special menu. Please check the website for up to date information.
So this place is now under new ownership and there are some notable differences that bump them back up to 4 stars.
-First of all, they prefer to just be called "Czar", thankyouverymuch. (this did not affect my rating, but i thought it was worth mentioning.
-They now seem to have some actual focus. They have a pretty dang solid beer menu, which is great to see. I've all but stopped getting mixed drinks unless they're made by a fancypants bartender who is probably wearing a vest or suspenders, so quality beers are important to me.
-The food menu....well, let's just say Magical Meatball Tour! That's right, the food truck has moved into a brick and mortar establishment! I tasted the meatball sampler, and they were the best balls I've had in a LONG time ;)
-The new owners are also in charge of Riot Room, so they know good music and DJs and have some pretty solid entertainment. Weekend dance parties are the shit. The crowd is indicative of that. It's pretty hip, and to have this kind of environment just a block or two off of Power and Light is quite impressive.
Czar, you've worked your way back into my heart and onto my dance card!
Great place. Â The bar tenders are the BEST! Â They have good local tallent...I am refering to music! Â Great late night place to go if you still want to hang out with friends. Â
Oh...they also have a kitchen that stays open pretty late that has great food as well. Â Not a huge menu, but have never heard anything but compliments on the fair!
Hmm, I don't know if there's much use in reviewing Czar Bar because I hear they're not long for this world, but I guess they didn't feel there was much use in impressing me on the same grounds.
$9 for a drink. If I'd paid the cover, I'd have been out a major wad for very little fun. For the money, I'd MUCH rather go to Manifesto. I know, it's apples and oranges, but I can see my boyfriend's band play anytime.
I am kind of neutral on the Czar Bar.
Having performed there, before experiencing it on my own, I think I have a slightly biased opinion of the establishment. The lack of changing room for bands or dancers, is understandable, but very annoying. It doesn't make much sense to try to accommodate live performers if you don't have the space for them to change and whatnot? I think bands work much better than dancers of any sort because they don't have to change clothes. But I have numerous friends in bands, and they have all had issues with the sound guys, as have I.
Drink prices are great! They have regular drink specials too!
The lighting is very dim, but flattering.
The place looks really cool... not really sure what that adds up to in the end, but it looks cool.
HUGE down point: bathrooms are FILTHY! And there is always a killer long line.
I would still recommend the Czar bar, though, despite my negative encounters. I bet it's a lot different when you don't have the associations of performance anxieties and stresses attached to your relationship with the bar.
It's a hole in the wall bar with class. I've never been that eager to visit Czar Bar, but it was pretty awesome tonight. Live music started at 7:00. Â The bartender was very welcoming and filled my water glass at least 4 times; I never even asked for it or felt guilty.
Don't just drink water though-their drink prices are great. For $4 I got a very full glass of Castle Rock Pinot Noir. And a $3 Boulevard Wheat. Including my Mickey Rourke stuffed burger with Gouda cheese (yum and not greasy), my bill was $14.66 before tip. Â
Czar Bar keeps getting better!
I liked Czar Bar before, but the new menu--an apparent rebirth of the former 39th Street staple, Otto's Malt Shop, long thought lost to the arid Nevada desert--necessitated this long overdue review.
Czar Bar is an excellent, laid back downtown bar. It's a hip space in a cool old building with a few decent beers, a friendly staff, and now, Otto's burgers and malts! I was a little disappointed not to see the Elvis on the menu, in all its burgery, peanut-buttery glory, but I made do with a Chris Walken and some Cap'n Crunch-breaded chicken strips. The strips were kinda weird; kinda good, but weird, and the breakfast cereal breading got soggy too fast. The burger was solid, although very messy. Flavor-wise not dissimilar to eating a bowl of pasta with meat sauce. I'm sure that's the point.
Unlike several other KC burger places, these burgers don't really come off as trying to be fancy so much as trying to be weird. In my book, weird is often better than fancy, especially in a market saturated with fancy.
Anyway, Czar Bar could have earned 4 stars on its own merits, and bringing Otto's back almost kicks it to 5--at least for those of us who regularly ditched high school and spent our lunch money on malts at Otto's.
Went to see a show at Czar last night and it was great all around. Our waitress was excellent, as were the barkeepers and cooks.
I had the hot wings and they are phenomenal. They're grilled and had a nice smokey flavor mixed with the sauce. The waffle fries are perfect for bar food.
Nice stage area for live music.
Near unique spacing. Great for mingling. Nice, low lighting too.
$3 Boulevards.
Czar Bar was like finding the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. I always knew it was there but never wandered far enough to go in! And then I did! I love this place. The bartenders are always super nice, though sometimes it is hard to hear, and the drinks are..well, drinks. Most of the time they have great entertainment and I love that they have specials on the weekends as well. Czar bar is a great place to have a great time at! I think my friends and I frequent Czar bar at least once a weekend.
Food is pretty solid too.
Czar Bar. I will be back. Last week was the first time I was there, and I'll have many more times to follow in the near future.
I really wanted to give them 4 stars. Really, I did.
The lighting was great. Czar Bar is faintly illuminated and with one too many $3 Jamesons (Oh yea, you got that right. $3 Jameson on Thursday nights), anyone could look like that hunky Patrick Swayze from Dirty Dancing with those dim lights. It's kinda mysterious/sexy/"Hey do you wanna make out? Errr, I mean, uh, nice shirt."
The drink specials were great. Went last Thursday night and they had all wine for $4 a glass, $3 Jameson, and I'm pretty sure they had a food special too. I wouldn't know though. I was loving up on some wine specials.
The atmosphere was great. My friend and I grabbed a couple seats at the bar and watched the musician on stage perform. I have no idea who was performing, but all of his songs were about teenagers in love. He was around the age of 60ish, singing of lovestruck teens. It was goofy. Everyone seemed to be enjoying the music, and my former boss and I enjoyed some drinks and listened to his soulful harmony of juvenile love.
The bartenders....ehhh. Well, that's where I had to nick a star. I had originally dubbed Czar Bar 4 stars. But throughout the progress of our evening, our bartender didn't speak one word to us. Surely she could have struck up conversation with us after the music man was done performing. She was Chatty Kathy with all the other bar guests...just not us. My friend and I are always open for conversation--especially my ex-manager that I was with, because he thought our bartender was the next Megan Fox. Creep. But, she wasn't feeling us.
Otherwise, this place showed us a pretty decent time. I love that they're open until 3 am....yea, stick that in your juice box and suck it P&L District. Another bar in the area open as late as you are! (I am having a hard time finding bars that are open past the standard 1:30 am. Any suggestions?) Great place to relax and watch some live music.
I've been to Czar Bar twice this week (look, sunny weather puts me in the mood for happy hour.) (I lie, any type of weather puts me in the mood for happy hour.) and really have to question why I don't come here more often.
Having been to Czar Bar a handful of times in the past at night, I know the place is a pretty fun venue to catch a band play or some crazy DJ spin.
But their happy hour? Â RID. IC. U. LOUS. Â Every day is $3 Boulevard draws (Wheat and Pale Ale) and $3 3 Olive Vodka drinks. Â Then, there are other deals assigned to every day including food and drink. Â
My roommate and I split "happy hour sized" (still huge enough to share) breaded mushrooms and cheese straws and reveled in some greasy, delicious, above-standard bar fare. Â We had several cocktails, chatted with the bartender and had two of our rounds bought by some friendly stranger passing by WITHOUT him hitting on us (Score.)...I can't promise the same free drinks for you, but I CAN promise cheap prices.
Tuesday is .75 cent tacos, which is full-sized tacos my friends. Â Also, $3.50 import bottles. Â I'm not quite sure how they get away with this, but um, you should probably take advantage of it. Â Sit out on their tiny front patio and revel in a quieter part of downtown.
I have a feeling I will have to visit every day a week this summer just to see what awesome deal is assigned to each day. Â The things I do for you people...
I've been to Czar Bar on several occasions, and I want to love it, but it's just been a little off a few times.
I like the place and I'd really like to see it survive, but for whatever reason it's not attracting a steady crowd. They have recently added some interesting DJ nights and they have increased their posting of events and specials on Facebook so perhaps these things will draw more customers.
The good things are that they have an excellent Happy Hour that does include Fridays. The drinks are cheap and they don't skimp on the pour. Appetizers are half price, and while it's not the most creative menu in the world, the wings, hummus and eggplant are all good. I have also had a chicken wrap there that was excellent. I've also gotten to see live music and DJs , and the sound is pretty good in that space.
What makes me hesitant to give 5 stars is that I've gotten very spotty service, which isn't completely the fault of the servers, because you can never tell when you decide to go to Czar Bar, say, on a Saturday, if it will be an eclectic mix of people, or totally empty. I have experienced both. There are usually only 2 girls working, one of whom stays behind the bar. You can imagine the service you get if one girl is taking care of the whole floor on a night the place ends up packed.
It's a shotgun style space with banquettes and chairs along the left and the bar along the right, with the stage in the back. In the window there's another small seating area where you can look out on to Grand. They have kept some of the feel of a space that has been on Grand for a long time, which I like.
I wish they would have another server on call in the event they do get slammed because in my experience it has led to messed up drink orders, e.g., a vodka martini made with Vanilla Stoli (plus an olive- eww!) and what was supposed to be Vanilla Stoli and Diet Coke made with regular Grey Goose. The bartender refused to believe she'd done that, whereas in my experience, a server or bartender would normally to fix an honest mistake without question. She turned what shouldn't have been a big deal into something that ended up in a review.
Other than that snafu I really so enjoy the vibe and location of the place and do continue to spend money there. I would encourage other people living or visiting downtown to maybe skip Power & Light and try locally owned Czar Bar and other Crossroads area bars instead!
If Kansas City is birthplace of the Hipster, then Czar Bar is its wet nurse. Â
I'm not a smoker at all, but there are some bars that seem they should be full of smoke, either for the atmosphere, or to cover up the bar stench. Â This was one of them.
Cool place, seems like they've got a lot going on. Â Really friendly bartenders. Â Unfortunately, Saturday night at 10PM it was almost empty when it feels like a place that should be teeming with flannel shirts and grubby facial hair. Â It picked up as we were leaving and looks like fun place to hunker down for a night of music and debauchery. Â I'll definitely be back.
*I remove stars if the lighting is too bright in a place*
One always looks beautiful by candlelight, Czar Bar. So, dim those lights and buy candles with the money you save on your electric bill. For the love of Cher, DO IT.
That aside, Czar Bar is delightful. We went the other night during Art Walk and the friendly bartender informed us immediately of the happy hour specials. NICE. There are so many  bars where you have to ASK, and risk looking cheap (not that I care right now. I am unemployed). But yeah, tell me how to save a buck and I'll love you, especially if you're also serving me wine. AND HALF PRICED APPETIZERS!!
We placed our drink orders (I had the red wine on happy hour and it was perfectly drinkable) and sat down at one of the tables. A waitress immediately came by to tempt us with the food menu. Appetizers run about 7 bucks and are typical bar fare, wings, artichoke dip, hummus, etc. I ordered the "crispy eggplant," thinking it would be three slices of eggplant with marinara on the side. Instead it was a platter of about 8 large slices of breaded eggplant covered in mozzarella and sauce. It was enough to share and not need to eat dinner later. At 7 bucks it would be a great deal. At 3.50 it was an amazing deal.
My friends ordered chicken wings, chicken strips and the artichoke dip which came with tortilla chips. I tried the artichoke dip and found it to be too heavy paired with the greasy chips so I don't recommend it. I heard that the chicken was all good and like I said, the portions are the size of a main course. They also serve sandwiches and burgers if you're looking for even heartier fare.
The best part? Although Happy Hour ended at 8, they happily extend it for you. I don't understand why this bar wasn't packed on a Friday night, but maybe Labor Day Weekend had something to do with it. Being the cranky dame that I am, I of course appreciate an empty bar on a Friday night so my friends and I can actually get a table and enjoy a civilized exchange.
czar bar was a fun night . i had the impression it was more of a bar than anything else but they actually have tables and i believe they serve food. i was there on saturday night like at 10 pm and there were a couple of parties having dinner.. but the bar is nice and dark. their stage is also pretty good and their audio system is very good too.
the girls behind the bar were very nice and smiley. they have good beers on tap and bottled too oh and i love kansas city prices. a pint of guinness and a glenfiddich on the rocks for 13$ daaamn
Love it more now that they moved the stage from the front to the back. Â I found having the stage in the front a little annoying, logistically speaking. I think this also makes for better acoustics for the whole place. Â
I like that you can carry on a conversation while listening to live music here. Â It has the perfect sound balance.
Also love that they have Olympia - the king of all yard beers. Â
I've only been once for a happy hour. Â I seem to remember it was something like half-price cosmos and apple-tinis or something like that. Â At the time it struck me as an odd drink special for a hipper bar like the Czar Bar. Â There also might have been cheap Boulevard Wheats. Â I remember only spending 10 dollars and being buzzed enough for a happy hour. Â I think they have cheap food, but I haven't had it. Â I am not very helpful.
Also in regards to parking, I think you can park in the Star lot for free after 6:00PM as long as you tell them that you are going to the Czar Bar.
The one gripe I have is that the ladies is of the dreaded one-hole variety. Â Which means when it is busy you have to stand around looking like a moron while the dudes get to go enjoy their multi-hole facilities. Â It seems so unfair.
This is a cool place within a nice space. Â I have always admired the 'late night theater' building (at least that's what I used to know it as). Â With its stone facade and marble lined interior, it's a true gem from turn-of-the-century KC. Â While the theater was interesting and entertaining, a bar is a much better use of the space. Â The marble walls are still intact and a huge wood bar (kind of 1930s style) lines one side of the room. Â Local art hangs on the walls, a plus! Â (This is in the crossroads after all). Â We came on a Saturday night and there were only about 10 people in there...half of which work there. Â I'm sure it was just a slow night. Â They had a good DJ spinning songs from all genres and eras...kind of reminded me of listening to my Ipod. Â Hope it does well!!
Review Source:Love it. Â They did a fine job of transforming this into a swanky yet comfy lounge. Â Tons of seating and a small stage are set up to put you as close to the band or far from the noise as you want.
Nice menu (usually 'til 10) with everything from oysters to hand-made pretzels and sirloin to veggie burgers. Â While the tap beers offerings are about all you need, they have a great top shelf bar as well.
Laid back, dark, friendly, and a wonderful locally-owned escape from the P&L District a block or two away.
Had a GREAT time,  the DJ/guy in short shorts was throwing out great electropop beats.  My friends dug it but wanted to go after four drinks. Then the band which I now know was Koufax got on and we decided to stay to hear "a" song, they were awesome.  I wanted to cross my arms and look disinterested/detached, but I just couldn't do it  :  ).  The bartender was a little edgy at first but turned out to be sweet.  The guy in the back who controlled the interim music seemed to not have a clue about what it sounded like up front.  Stayed for the whole Koufax set and about an hour more of house beats.  Can't wait to go back.  Pretty darn killer that downtown KC has this place now,
"get amongst it"
I guess LCD TVs are a bar requirement but get rid of them, good call on not having them on, sheesh. Â
Matt E. is right, the place is either packed or empty, go on an event night or have a back up plan ready. Â Still thought the music was too loud, and I'm a person who never doesn't crank it. Â Pretty mad I missed the "ipod battle" on 12/30, REDO!
I can't speak to the food, but what a cool music venue! Â I went to this place the other night for a show featuring 3 local bands and a local DJ. Â Place was pretty backed, but the bar staff was quick and friendly.
Based on what I've seen/heard, this will be a nice music venue to complement the Record Bar. Â This kind of bar is desperately needed downtown, and it's just a short skip from the Sprint Center and the P&L. Â A wonderful alternative bar downtown. I'll have to try to food and report back, but so far, I think this could turn into one of my favorite bars.
I waited forever for this place to open & it finally did (quietly) on August 29th. Â The decor is modern and dark and has a distinct "man" feel. Â There is still a bank vault that remains from its other life. Â There is a huge window with a seating area where you can watch pedestrians come and go from the Sprint Center.
The waitress was quick to get our drink order. Â The menu looked really good, but we had just had dinner. Â
From the website I would guess this will be a pretty great place to listen to live music. Â It is just close enough to the P&L to be part of the action, but the vibe inside is very non-corporate. Â
Great place to grab a drink early or late.
