Dessert heaven right on the City line!
As other reviewers have commented, this place can turn into a packed madhouse once springs hints. Â The product is just like any other DQ location and the staff of young people is generally well coordinated and tuned for customer service. Â The "take a number" system is essential here because the line often runs out the door. Â In addition, the front area is rather small for the crowds that the place attracts.
If oodles of screaming children with their feisty northwest side Chicago über-Irish mothers and fathers, packed together into a tiny volume, isn't your idea a great dessert experience, then you might want to either avoid the place altogether or visit off peak.  Between the customers, the workers and the various pieces of equipment that would be used to make the desserts, it's always got a noise problem.
Fortunately, this old timey location has restrooms and overall, the entire place is reasonably clean. Â The parking proper for this business is minimal and tight. I recommend parking on the street just west of North Canfield Avenue, north of West Devon Avenue. Â Even parking further up on Canfield Avenue can be helpful.
This place has seating, but I don't recommend it, because it's tight and you may have to fight for it.
Spring will be here soon enough. Â Enjoy that first trip to DQ!
This place is a great place to come for ice cream on a hot night. Staff and owner are very nice. Place is clean and yes although it is busy, they have enough employees working that the wait is not that long. There is a closer DQ to my house with drive thru, but I prefer to come here for their service and cleanliness.
Review Source:Great service and very good ice cream make this one of our families favorite places to go on a lazy Saturday afternoon. There is seating outside so you can watch cars drive by, but it's a nicer neighborhood and usually pleasant sitting out there.
There is parking in the back, but we usually park along the street.
The only downside is this store can be PACKED during the evening hours. When you arrive make sure you grab a number. They really follow the numbering scheme and it works well.
Do you enjoy stampeding mobs of shrieking children, covered in various flavours and consistencies of sticky, melted ice cream? Do you enjoy pushy, clueless soccer moms who think that just because they have a flailing toddler in tow it grants them immediate service with no wait? Do you enjoy being body checked by a 6 foot tall 13 year old who is rushing to get out the door to his buddies, resulting in a large Buster bar stain across the front of your shirt?
Oh my, then my friend, this DQ is for you. Â Were it not for the fact that this is the closest location to where I live, I would never come here.
But an extra star for the extremely patient, accurate and friendly staff (that is made up primarily of teenagers) that put up with this nonsense night after night. Â Oh and for the Dipped Cones. Â Those are freakin fabulous.
"Tis the season...no not that one silly...it's Ice-Cream season!!
This D.Q. is less than 5 minutes from the humble abode and oh so good!!
We've been coming here for years.
It's great to see the neighborhood kids working here every spring/summer, and they couldn't be sweeter (no pun intended).
And it's so refreshing to hear the "Can I help you sir/ ma'am?" and the "Thank you very much".
They do get B-U-S-Y. Take a number, the line goes fast, and it's so worth it!!
They have benches and seats outside, perfect for people watching as you lick.
There is nothing like a soft swirl choc/vanilla twist on a warm summer night!!
A sure sign of Spring is the when the lines start at this DQ. The place gets mobbed on the first nice day and pretty much stays that way throughout the summer. I love a good Oreo Blizzard or the French Silk one and even the Strawberry CheeseQuake and don't forget about the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup one. I love a good Blizzard-as long as it's from DQ!
Review Source:On a warm summer night this place has a line out the door and every bench outside occupied by couples, teens, baseball teams or scout troops. You'll see the bikes and skateboards parked outside. Located on the corner that divides Chicago's Edison Park neighborhood from Park Ridge, it draws in all the locals for some ice cream. It is open seasonally, from about March till October. The DQ expanded to hold a larger eat-in area now. However, it is most appealing to sit outside under the stars and enjoy a chocolate-dipped vanilla cone or one of the many DQ creations. So come bring that special someone after a movie or the whole family next time...
Review Source:(Ssshh, don't tell the Dairy Queen, but I actually "used" them at first just because I really had to visit a rest room - FAST). Â I felt guilty so I decided to place an order. Â (Yeah, like you have to force me to eat an ice cream cone :) Â Anyway, it was so good to enjoy a dipped cone again. Â They had a tiny dining room that was clean, and the kids behind the counter were pretty pleasant. Â They also have a small menu with hot dogs and a couple other items, but they are known for their cones, Blizzards and other tasty ice cream creations. Â They also had great looking ice cream cakes that (at that time) were decorated for the White Sox and Bears. Â GO SOX!!
