Was very excited to go  from all the great reviews and was so disappointed. We walked in on a week day at around 5pm. Only a few people at the bar - no one in the "dining area". Music was blasting. Now, Im not a fuddy duddy, I LOVE music and loud music too, but when you can;t even hear someone speaking whos next to you, its too loud.  I am giving 2 stars because the waitress was nice and her service was good.
The food, not so much. Salty soup. Salty wings. I had the tilapia and I think it frozen kind from costco or sysco. Major fail.  It seemed that as we dined, more people came in to  eat. We saw most had groupon type tickets.  Please get fresh(not frozen) food.
The skillet mac and cheese with pulled pork was awesome. Husband had brisket sandwich, piping hot fries and slaw. He says his was "good." Â Spotty service tho. Nice waitress, who'd disappear for a while then reappear to take a drink order. Then disappear without delivering drinks. We were not charged for the very late drinks. Even though we hadn't complained. She knew. But I would have happily paid for on time drinks to accompany my meal. Nice ambiance. Easy street parking on a Saturday night. Good playlist on the sound system. We'll try again.
Review Source:All around good food. Their prices are decent. Staff is super friendly and make good recommendations.
I went with a special, which was a pulled pork stuffed burger. Awesome burger, even if I felt like I'd have to be rolled out the front door afterward.
Glad to see more good places opening in the hood.
Triple D as I have come to call this place ... I have been here about 5 times since it has been open.
My review will cover 2 main topics.. Food and service.
The service is great. I have never had an issue here at all. I have been there enough times to see it slow and extremely busy. I have always been welcomed in by some one, seated right away and asked if we wanted a drink. Food arrives in an acceptable amount of time, I say this because its not fast food, I mean hell I want some one to cook my food and take some time and pride in what they are cooking.
The Food is great. Â Burgers are great and if you want to eat light the south west salad with steak and homemade cilantro dressing has become my favorite thing on the menu.
In short Triple D is a great place to stop in have a few drinks and a great dinner or lunch for a very reasonable price. Keeping in mind I do understand everyone has their own experience and in my opinion this is a great place. And if you're looking for a place in the neighborhood that you can even bring your kids to for dinner  this is it.
I love Dish... i just wish they'd expand their menu alittle more.
the smaller menu that they do have is definitely quality though.
They make an awesome Kiwi skirt steak and i could live off the jalapeno poppers.
the service is hit or miss.. Â and the specials are pretty good.
hoping they add an outdoor patio area sometime soon!
A Groupon brought us here and like others, I don't live too far away but hadn't heard of it. Â But I guess that's what Groupon is for, eh?
Decor:  Kind of an odd mix but with some really nice elements.  Bar off to the side with plenty of football watchers with buckets of beer.  The rest of the restaurant side had a nice  color scheme - browns and yellows w/ some interesting artwork.  But then overhead was a large glowing Jagermeister sign.  Not my idea of "ambience" in the dining area.
Service: Â Slow, the waitress seemed overwhelmed but she was working HARD to serve maybe 8 tables plus greeting/seating. Â However, she did apologize as we were leaving and note that a couple of people didn't show for their shifts.
FOOD: Â GREAT. Â We went with the fried pickle appetizer - full spears fried with a slightly spicy breading. Â And then my entree was the Kiwi Grilled skirt Steak Sandwich. Â Steak was tender and delish, the onions that topped it were grilled / carmelized just perfectly. Â The hubs had the Chile Lime Chicken which he dubbed very good (I think he was hoping for a bit more "kick" but he always likes things super spicy.) Â Kiddos had the grilled cheese and the mac & cheese - the latter of which I tasted and was very very good, especially for a kid entree. Â Oh, and kid entrees are $3.95, which includes fries and a drink. Â
Somewhat disappointed that they had NO beers on tap, but they did have a pretty extensive list of bottled beer, with some good microbrews available. Â
Their specials seemed to be really good, both food & bev. Â Sunday $3 bloody marys and $2 burgers. Â
So yeah, despite some service issues, the food (bottom line to any restaurant, IMHO) is what gives it 4 stars. Â We'll be back.
We live in Edison Park and didn't really know this place existed until we saw a groupon  - so I grabbed that.   The groupon price included choices from their sandwich menu - which had several very tempting choices... but I decided to upgrade to the flank steak.   We both had the same dish - with mashed potatoes (yes, real potatoes) and  grilled veggies.   It was really good.  Not super duper fantastic - but really good.  I'm thinking I would have enjoyed it a little more rare.   My husband polished his off but I was able to take home 1/2 my steak and veggies for a little steak & eggs later.   (entree came with soup or salad  - soup was good)
I forgot to mention the appetizer - they had a fantastic pulled pork crepe - YUM! Â My favorite part of the meal. Â Â I saw several other appetizers, sandwiches and entrees that I would like to try (including sweet potato tater tots - hello!). Â
The atmosphere was nice inside - casual but a little hip. Â From the outside- I would have that "eh" and probably kept driving - looked more like a pub... or I don't know. Â Just not that appealing. Â Â My obsession with Groupon got us in the door.
I'm between 3-4 stars here. Â I can't decide, I'll have to go back!
Good solid food. Nothing fancy but
Solid comfort food. All the times I've been to Dish, they are consistently good - food is prepared well. No fancy plating here, but that doesn't matter. This is an unpretentious neighborhood spot!
Food prices are very reasonable for the area and the wine and beer ($3.50 for a Corona) prices are reasonable as well. Except the only odd thing is that my fiance and I ordered hard liquor "on the rocks" and when the bill came, the price was shown for the hard liquor ($5.50 for Ketel One and $6.00 to Maker's Mark), plus a separate line item for "on the rocks" of $2.00 (Basically making it $7.50 for a Ketel One on the rocks and $8 for a Maker's Mark - seems very odd they charge in this m anner). Friendly and knowledgable staff. I certainly hope Dish paves the way for more eateries in the Norwood Park area!
FYI - they do not accept American Express cards
I have been wanting to go here for months, but never got around to it. Just went there today and it was fantastic! I ordered the Southwest salad with chicken and others ordered burgers. We all really thought the food was great and even better was the prices! I think the decor is really nice and was pleasantly surprised. We will definately be back again soon to try other things on the menu as well.
Review Source:Had dinner here last night June 20th, was excellent! My date had the super burger and it was delicious! I had the tilapia and it too was fantastic! Service was friendly and great! Will definitely come back again. Excellent and not over priced! Martini's and Margaritias were delicious too! Highly recommend! :)
Review Source:My husband and I were really excited to try this place out since it's walking distance, so we went there for the first time, and all I can say is HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. We live in the neighborhood and thought we'd try it out. 1st of all....it took about 10 minutes for a server to come to our table.....2nd of all....we were literally neglected throughout the evening. I can the understand that the waitress might have been overwhelmed with the amount of tables she had...but she obviously had NO problem socializing with other tables near us. So while this is going on...we're waiting on drinks...we had been done with our appetizers for about a half hour.....we were even ready to order dinner when we ordered our appetizers, but we had NO CHANCE to speak bc the waitress just took off. Not good...not to mention, no common sense. Did the waitress ask if we were ok...and how our dinner was? NO.
We were so disgusted and turned off, we were ready to walk out the door. We barely ate our dinner, and it was OBVIOUS that we needed boxes to go bc our plates were set to the side....did anyone come to our table and acknowledge this? NO.
Anyway, never going back there again. And I'm sorry but the food was not great at all. The Brisket I had was full of fat, and half my order was missing that I had requested. But when it was time for getting the check....of course she was quick with that. Looks like back to Edison PARK we go. At leas people have common sense there and treat their customers right and are able to acknowledge what's going on around them....no matter HOW BUSY it is.
Very friendly staff and cozy atmosphere, plus you can't beat the prices, even the bar prices are extremely reasonable. Â We come here about once a week for a drink, small plates, or dinner, depending on our schedule. Â
We love the crepe appetizer, and fish specials, not to mention the ravioli--yum! Â Parking is always available either on the street or behind the restaurant in the lot. Â Nice addition to Norwood Park.
Wow - what a treat! Â Great food at reasonable prices, very reasonable. Â It's family run and they all work there! :-) very pleasont and engaging. Â Worth the trip from near north area. Great selection of beers as well with convenient street parking. Â Take the family or a group of people asyou get a lot of food for the money!
Review Source:One of my best friends started working here so we decided to check it out! We went and it was a very homey environment! They have flat screens and they are very nice about what is going to be on tv or if you have a request. The first time we went for just drinks and it was a blast! The next time we went we actually ordered food. I had the pulled pork sandwich and it was great! I had it the next time I went back too! Wednesdays they started having trivia with a great host, Tony Valle. I went with 4 of my friends and we had a blast! Its a great place and very family friends!
Review Source:Excellent food and super reasonable (almost cheap) prices. Â The bill (with tax/tip) for dinner for my wife and I, including an appetizer and two beers, was $42. Â I just hope they are making enough money to stay open because it was only about half full on a Saturday night at 8:00pm. Â We'll definitely go back (like a lot of the other reviewers) so you should go check it out too!
The only negative was that the meal could have been spaced/timed out a little better. Â We had a long wait for our appetizer and then my salad came and then the entrees came very quickly. Â
4.5 stars.
We have been to Dish several times and are very happy to have it in the neighborhood! I waited to give a review until i had been at least 5 times....The food is great and they have a good beer selection. The prices are so reasonable, making it great for our whole family. While the staff is very friendly, we have found them to be extremely slow each time we've been in, which is the only thing keeping me from giving 5 stars.
Review Source:I've been curious about Dish since I saw the sign go up several weeks before it officially opened its doors. This area is as desperate for good businesses as Madonna is for a mustache trimmer.
Dish is bigger on the inside than it appears on the outside. They have conventional seating up front and high tables near the bar. You can see the TVs wherever you're sitting, so if the plan is to ignore your date to watch the Cubs, Bears, Bulls, Blackhawks, or Sox lose, you're golden.
I've only ever tried the hummus appetizer and the cheeseburger. Both were good, but not necessarily spectacular. What IS spectacular is the pricing. I don't know how long that'll last, so check them out soon. My girlfriend and I ordered two entrees, an appetizer, a beer and a Coke, and the tab only came out to about $22.
Any place that's a friend to my wallet is a friend of mine. I've been back since that first time, and I'll be sure to go back again and again.
With the addition of Dish and the soon-to-be-opening Norwood Market and Mo Dailey's, dare I say this little strip of Northwest Highway is becoming downright hip? Â It's just too bad Frank's Franks and the coffee shop didn't make it.
This is a little gem of a restaurant. The chef takes obvious pride in the dishes he prepares and his attention to little things sets this restaurant  appart from any other in the area. What is especially surprising is the value you get. It's diner prices with tablecloth quality food, especially at lunch.
Service is generally very attentive but you can tell that some of the servers are still getting their sea legs. The decor is understated hip. The dark woods create a warm atmosphere.
The menu isn't large but the offereings are creative and give a customer a good range of options. The chef has a subtle hand with spices, in fact his use of seasonings is very creative. He takes ordinary food and turns it into a culinary treat.
I love this type of restaurant. A small neighborhood place, with a skilled chef, who cares about food and cares about his customers. I can appreciate the comments about frustration with service, it can ruin a dining experienece but I think this will get resolved as the staff gains expereience. I personally have never had a bad service experience but that's only based on three visits, none of which occured on a weekend. Go for the food, it is very, very good.
This is an updated review on 2/10/12. I live in this neck o' the woods and have waited very very patiently for a (capital R) Restaurant to test our waters on Northwest Highway. First there were the rumors when the location was purchased, then the economy seemed to get in the way, then a seemingly too-long construction period, and finally a grand opening. Â At first glance, the storefront underwhelms. It's set back a bit, rendering it all but invisible to northwest-bound cars. It's a narrow presentation that might be mistaken for a dentist's office but for the triple-D sign. But upon entry I am stunned to find a deep expansive space with 3 distinct seating zones, a long bar, warm colors and a sense that I am home. Â These folks have hit their target market spot on. Â The design elements are creatively basic: painted drywall ceiling and walls, colored and poured concrete floor, flat panel TVs, mostly 4-top tables that can be combined for larger groups, and a lighting plan that allows me to actually read the menu while maintaining a romantic ambiance. Notwithstanding the general refrain of other Yelpers, I benefited from excellent customer service. Lauren introduced herself mid-meal to welcome us and express her appreciation for our visit. Our servers have been completely attentive. Food arrives promptly. Visits have been on Thursdays at about 6:30 and the restaurant not too busy but active. Â FOOD: Â BBQ pork crepes: delicious and relatively inspired. Â Chicken wings: meaty and moist and nicely spiced (3 heat levels offered). Mac n Cheese: Â perfectly smooth consistency but completely boring, which I guess means it targets the kids in tow; would benefit from a more ambitious kind of cheese and some paprika or other spice that elevates the experience. Skirt steak and mash: remarkably moist cut of meat perfectly cooked and toothsome as paired with a deep brown sauce and skin-on mash (great!). Â Burger: Â Wisely nestled in a nice pretzel bun, but the burger itself is mediocre; this one menu item needs to be improved because it's a great bar restaurant environment so deserves a great burger. Â A better cut of meat, better seasoned, possible larger, shaped more invitingly, with fresh tomato (I recognize the seasonal issues, but that barely pink slice is completely off-putting). Â Overall the meals have been good and satisfying, and definitely a good value proposition. I welcome triple-D to the 'hood and wish it success and prosperity, which would invite other restaurants and businesses to this great stretch of NW Highway.
Review Source:I sincerely wish my experience was better. I've read the reviews and I had such high hopes for my first visit there, but the food was just okay. The service was at times hovering over us. Maybe it was just the night we went, because I had such high hopes based upon all the previous reviews.
Review Source:This is a fantastic neighborhood place. Â Clean, cozy, great food too. Â My only complaint would be as a couple of other reviewers is that depending on the server the timing can be off. Â My husband and I have been there about a dozen times and if you get an inexperienced server, the food either comes with your appetizer or if you tell her to wait you get cold food. Â Some of the staff needs to learn that you don't put in the app and entree orders at the same time. Â Other than that the place is warm and inviting, and the food options are limited but all are executed perfectly. Â The burgers are not greasy, the soups are all delicious, and the bread is always fresh. Â Drinks are very reasonable. Â If you live in Norwood Park please try it and support this much needed local business. Â
They seemed to have worked the kinks out of the service. Â If you have never tried Dish make sure your first visit is on a Wednesday for dinner after 5 o'clock. Â The rib special is delicious. Â The ribs fall off the bone and the sauce is incredible!
Greatly needed place in Norwood Park. Â Plenty of street parking without having to deal with the valets and parking challanges of Edison Park. Â I had the ravioli combo and my husband had the steak special for that evening. Â Prompt friendly knowlegable service staff. Â Prices are right as are the serving portions. Â I prefer smaller portions and better prices than paying more and bringing half home that mostly gets tossed later. Â Drinks priced right too. Â Good to find this gem in Norwood Park.
Review Source:I was really surprised to find a place like this in Norwood Park! Usually this quiet little neighborhood, home to many retirees, hosts an occasional doctor or dentist, but never a fun night-spot like this. My husband wanted to go out one night because the kids were away on a sleep-over and we decided to try this place out. The decor was nice and cozy and the food was delicious. It was also CHEAP but in a really good way. We met the owner who was working very hard to make sure we were happy. The only down-side is the wait-staff was a little clueless. We met another couple who agreed the owner was great but the waitresses were really just counting the hours until close. Regardless, this place is great and I'm sure it will improve! Definitely worth a night out and with their prices you have nothing to lose!
Review Source:I like this place!! Went last night for the first time with my husband, and dinner was really good, the place itself is cute and clean, the staff is friendly and inviting. The prices are just right, and I think the menu has just the right amount of variety. We had a perfectly nice dinner, and this neighborhood is in dire need of more places like this, so keep up the good work Dish!!
Review Source:Brought my 4yr old in for lunch and I had the bbq brisket w/ fries which was excellent. Lots of brisket and the bbq sauce was excellent all on an onion kaiser roll.
Kids menue has all the items kids love. My Son had the chix fingers and was pleased to see that they were all white meat chicken with minimal breading and not greasy at all. there was soo much we brought some home and he asked for them later that day. The fingers also came with sweet tater tots which were yummy.
Place is nicely decorated. I like the photos on the wall and service was fantastic. Jill was so nice. We will be back
So far I have been to Dish four times, with different groups of people. Every single one of my experiences would be rated 5 stars. My waitresses have always been friendly, inviting and willing to do whatever it takes. They were able to take care of our party of 9 which is very impressive for a new restaurant. The owners even came by to chat with us while we were waiting for food - so personable!
The food is absolutely outstanding. It looks and tastes like something you wish you could make at home (great combinations, flavors, and variety). Every time I have gone, I have ordered something new and not one thing has disappointed me. The sweet potato tater tots, macaroni and cheese, and the kiwi skirt steak has so far been my favorites.
I have recommended Dish to many friends and family. I have not heard a bad review  yet. They have loved the atmosphere, food, and staff - just as I have! Great job Dish, you're exactly what this area needed! I will continue to recommend this restaurant ! Happy New Year!
We were so excited when hearing a new restaurant was coming to Norwood Park.
We have a business on Northwest Highway a block from Dish Dine & Drink, so if it is good it really be convenient.
Well We were not disappointed, from the staff to the meals this gets a 5 star rating all around.
I read reviews about charging for carry out, well they stopped that, what you have to take under consideration is the owners opened this place with no prior restaurant experience so right off the bat we were ready to cut them some slack and see how it goes.
As far as we are concerned they hit a home run first time out.
We are vegetarians and the selections and taste were fantastic.
We have recommended restaurant to our grown up children and many friends and all were very pleased.
We are hoping in the future they expand their menu possibly even adding breakfast.
This place is hear to stay.
If you are in the area stop by, you will not be disappointed.

As a long time resident of Norwood Park I was hoping against hope that Dish would provide a much needed go -to restaurant within walking distance. The first time I went it was horrific. Again, I was hoping against hope and took my whole extended family for a pre -Christmas dinner . Not only was the food  inedible , when I ventured to complain that the food was vile the owner said " what was it too healthy fr you?" I will never go there again and anybody who thinks they should patronize  this place  out of loyalty for the neighborhood should think twice. Hands down the biggest disappointment of 2011.
Review Source:Went there last week with my son and sister for lunch. We watched the Bears game and ate some great food. I really loved the crepes and their seasoned fries. My son had the burger kids meal and mango smoothies and loved it. The only thing to skip is the mozzarella sticks. Overall my new neighborhood spot and it's affordable to boot.
Review Source:I'm torn by the star rating and heres why....
Personally, based on the experience, I would give it a 2.
Based on the food, I would give it a 4. So, they end up with a 3.
Went by here last night, on a Saturday after reading all the great reviews on yelp. I really loved that atmosphere and the artwork for sale on the wall. Due to the dining area being packed, we grabbed a seat at a high top and got our menus.
After a few minutes we got our drink orders put in and all was well. The waitress gave us time to look over the menu after telling us about all the specials. She was knowledgeable and friendly. When she came back with our drinks, we ordered the chef's special appetizer and our entrees that come with soup.
About 40 minutes later we got our soup and literally 3 seconds, as I'm putting the soup spoon to my mouth, we got our entrees. Did you notice anything wrong with this picture?? Two things, 1. Timings a little off, eh? And 2. I haven't mentioned the appetizer yet. That's because it never came so we had to ask our server to remove it from the bill. (Based on the tables we sat next to, the restaurant lost a little bit of money due to having to remove things from the bill). EX: The poor table next to us never got their salsa with there chips and the waitress acknowledged it 4 times and still never brought it. It was like a circus. Â The other table of 4 next to us got all apps, side and entrees at once too.
The last thing that irked me was that as we left, the woman manager/hostess-- watched us walk right out the door without a thank you or good night, or asking for feedback... opened 3 weeks, you think every ounce of feedback would matter!
The positive thing was that our food, although cold, was delicious! I had the kiwi marinated steak and my husband had the tilapia. So that's where I'm hopeful that this place can work out its ridiculous kinks so I can come back and try that appetizer! I have no doubt that if they can
Took my family there for an impromptu late night dinner and was very impressed. Great food at VERY LOW prices. They could raise each item a dollar and still be under-priced! Good burgers and great mac and cheese! Good beer selection and a bar that DID NOT skimp on the alcohol in the drinks! Â Perfect place for any group.. family, friends, date night. Very affordable, fun and tasty option for the area. Worth the trip.
Review Source:This place is amazing! It has a high class look yet the overall atmosphere is warm and cozy. Its family owned and run which makes a big difference in the service and quality of food and beverages. I found the staff to be warm and pleasant and the owner even came over to my table, introduced himself and shook my hand. I think we need a lot more restaurants like this and a lot less of the franchises. They are so boring and mediocre. I will be back often, food is fantastic, try the crepes, my favorite.
Review Source:I've waited 10 years for a place like this in Norwood Park!!Great food(loved the burgers ),atmosphere ,and outstanding service! Our waitress was fantastic and we waited for nothing. If this is a sign of things to come for downtown Norwood Park we should all be very excited!! No more trips to Edison Park for me.
