If you are looking for a place to call "your bar" this could be it. In general a good group of regulars and a bar tender that remembers what you drink wether you were in last week or last month. The dog friendly bar is a great place to get your fix of petting pooches if you don't have one yourself. Â Free pool and steel tip darts is a plus too. Â This is a great place to visit and very reasonable prices.
Review Source:The Driftwood is definitely a utilitarian bar. Â No frills, no fancy decor, just drinks.
The crowd here can be a bit weird (read: local) so they often give you weird looks when you walk in with your friends. Â The bartender has always been gruff (in my experience, anyway) but he's always ready to get you a drink. Â Bottled beers are $2.50. Â YUM.
There's a pool table and some darts, plus TVs for sports. Â Closed on Sundays. Â What more do you need?
this bar is fine. just fine. nothing more, nothing less (AKA don't expect much). Â I live in the neighborhood so I find myself here from time to time and I don't take issue with it.
Some of the bartenders are obnoxious, but deal with it. Your drinks are cheap.
One major downfall: Â The music is always incredibly loud for no apparent reason. Â Hey guys, It's a Wednesday night, there are like 10 people in the bar, tops. We don't need to hear "Call Me Maybe" on blast. Thanks.
I'm a big fan of dives. Â I've been looking for one to come close to filling my need for Diggers (a Bloomington, IL bar) & I happened to move close to this particular bar & LOVE it. Â Cheap beers, regulars, pool, darts, casual environment that I can bring my dog, Tucker, to! Â Watering hole? Â I think so.
Review Source:Dear Driftwood
I am not too sure about your bars motif. Heavy metal meets vulgar rap meets alternative rock meets country. I have no clue who actually works there considering there are like 5987287329873 people going behind the bar...non of which can make me a drink. I hate going there because parking is terrible and the service isn't the greatest. I just think we should just be a but more customer friendly....just a thought....simmer on it.
This place is a solid 3-stars. I like the lay-out. It has a pool table and is an all-around nice play to spend a low-key evening. I should have asked if the dog that was there was part of the scene or was just visiting for the night. If he's always there, then this place gets bumped up a star, cus he was awesome (although I think the bar is dog friendly).
I think the beer selection could use a boost. The prices are good. If you're with some friends that are looking to chill and are in the area, then this isn't a bad place to visit for a beer or four.
This place is pretty low-key and nothing to write home about. Â I don't really "write home" about anything though. Â As far as I remember, they don't have a huge beer selection, but I'm no where near a beer snob, so I am not complaining. Â They have daily specials and free pool on Thursdays and Fridays.
They offer up their venue for parties, fundraisers, etc. which is a plus and they will sponsor any sports team.
Oh, and they are dog friendly which, imo, is very cool!
I just realized this is my 100th review. Â Sorry it kinda sucked.
This is a perfect place if you want a low key night in a bar that doesnt get crowded. Â My friends and I went to watch the Bear's game and it was a fun time. Â They mexican place next door also delivers to the bar...lazy ? yes. but mexican food, $2 miller lite bottles and the bears...sounds like a good sunday to me!
Review Source:This bar is a fine place to spend an evening. Â Their alcohol selection is not amazing, but the prices are decent. Â They do not serve food, which would be a downside if it were not for the fact that they allowed dogs. Â I watched two dogs chase around a tennis ball for most of a night until they had destroyed it. Â It was then my privilege to watch a black lab try to get the cue ball off of the pool table (they have a pay
pool table).
I and a group of people went here for a friend's birthday because we figured that we had a lot of people coming and it would not be all that packed. Â We were correct. Â It made for an excellent birthday party.
I give it three stars for three good D's: Dogs, Darts and Dive.
I read some of the other reviews, and they are pretty spot on - the owners are a little rude, but it's a dive, so you really can't expect all that much. Â The pool table is usually run by the regulars, so don't expect to play. Â Expect to have a free juke box a majority of the time, because virtually no one plays it (aside from the fact that it's never really packed enough to have anyone play it). Â
Cheap beer, dart board, low key crowd. Â Not too bad if you're with a good group of your own.
Major downside - it's hot.  Like very hot.  They haven't put the AC on once since I have been there this summer  - about fifteen times since May.
I really liked this place. Â It's dog friendly, and while I don't have my own dog, I love petting pretty doggies. Â The beer was cheap, especially for a Friday night. Â There's pool and darts. Â The pool table line moves quickly and we got to play, whoo! Â The darts were also open a significant part of the night. Â There is a lot of good seating, high tables, a super big booth in the corner and room at the bar. Â The only thing stopping me from being here on the regular is how far north it is.
Review Source:Q: I WANT A BEER, BUT MY DOG WANTS TO GO SNIFF SOME BUTTS...WHAT TO DO?
A: Head over to Driftwood! Â
This low-key, neighborhood watering hole is dog-friendly and on my last visit there were at least 7 dogs roaming around and having a grand old time. Â Driftwood is very easy to miss as you drive down Montrose so keep an eye out for Mr. Salsa and you'll be right there. Â
If butt sniffing is not your cup of tea, fear not for they also have a pool table and regularly host euchre tournaments. Â To top it all off, drink prices are reasonable and the owner is great.
I enjoy this bar because they are very dog friendly and I can come here with my dog. They have a pool table, dart board and a couple of booths which are more private for a group of friends. They do not have a kitchen, but have menus for you to order food. However sometimes they play movies on the televisions which is very boring. Last time I was in here which was during this March, the television was so loud I had to scream at the person sitting next to me and my ears actually hurt. I understand March madness and all, but the volume was ridiculous.
Review Source:any place with cheap beer, friendly staff and mellow patrons is a-ok with me. Â the fact that this place allows dogs makes it my new favorite bar. Â
my first trip up to the bar to get drinks i was offered a bowl of water and treats for the pooch. Â no one seemed to mind when he took off behind the bar to sniff the place out.
my only beef was the $5 I lost to the jukebox that never played my songs.
in terms of immediate proximity to my house, there are three choices, and i'm fairly apathetic about all of them. the spot and bar on buena are nothing to write home about, but at least they have a little ambiance. driftwood is so blah that i don't even know what to say.....
it's like sitting in a cement room with no personality. the bartender was not friendly, not rude. no one was really speaking. music so low i couldn't even hear it. so forgettable i can't write anymore.
This is a good place to keep in the back of your skull, because there is little else in the immediate vicinity. Â After a wonderful dinner at Magnolia Cafe up on Wilson, my friend and I wandered down here. Â I remembered it fuzzily from a post-Christmas-party excursion back in December 2006. Â The bar was mostly full then, but last night it was nearly empty. Â
It's low-impact and laid-back but not quite a dive. Â Let's call it a good neighborhood, "around the corner" bar. Â There were several TVs, pool, and darts. Â Beer on tap was Guinness, Harp, Peroni, Blue Moon, Hacker-Pshorr, and (I think) Miller Lite. Â My friend thought that her vodka and tonic tasted funny, but her next drink was okay. Â We stayed until closing, which was apparently shortly after one. Â A friendly employee came around to encourage us to finish up, and ended up chatting for several minutes to share his tale of romantic woe. Â Good folks in here.
It's a fairly straightforward bar, but, lacking the obnoxious crowds of bars just a mile or two to the south, it's a perfect place to come and hang out for an evening. Â There's pool and TV, and no obscenely loud music to drown out your conversation. Â We'll be back.
Oh I was so happy this place popped up near my girl friend's place. It has free pool (SWEET!), a jukebox (SWEET!), darts, some video game and great tunes playing all night long (not sure if it was the jb or their random selection)...either way it was rock-n-rollin'. The bartender chick was a moron...I gave her a tip and she proceeded to put it in the register...never counting. She never exchanged a smile or a word with us, but acted like a bar room slut with the boys. She got my drink order wrong a couple of times...( I was drinking beer)...at this point I didn't really care...but still. I guess I wouldn't have minded if she was stupid and cute...but she was just stupid. Yeah, we'll go back here again since it seems to be the only half-way decent place in that neck of the woods...and you can't beat free pool & the name is damn cool.
Review Source:I was super happy when I found this bar around the corner from my house. There isn't much of a selection in Buena Park/Uptown that isn't really shady. I went in with a friend, and we met one of the bartenders, Keith, who was really really nice. He only works a couple nights a week though. We also met a few regulars who were super nice. So we decided to go again and this time one of the owners was bartending. She was pretty nice too, even offered to take my resume, and see if I could take a shift or two bartending, so I gave her my name and number, but heard no call. Not that it matters, because I'd NEVER ever want to work there now.
A couple weeks went by and I went back just to catch a beer on the extremely long walk back from parking my car (parking's horrendous around there sometimes). Both owners were there. HE is extremely rude and unfriendly. SHE acted like she'd never seen me before in her life and was so incredibly mean to me for no apparent reason, that I declined to order a drink and left instead. I went in again maybe a week later, and they were both there again. This time with their underage son (I know this because the female owner told one of the other patrons he was, and later heard the bartender introduce him as her son) and his friends slamming beers and being completely obnoxious. Also, the bartender had her little girl there, couldn't be more than 6 or 7 years old, wandering around the bar! Ugh.
Good thing this place has big windows, because when I pass by, I check to see if Keith's working, if he is, then I check to see if the owners are there. If they are, I don't go in.
I'm giving this place 1 star because that's the lowest rating you can give. And an extra for Keith, their Star bartender.
I've been here several times but sort of gave up because of the problems others have mentioned.
It's kind of a standard smallish sports bar. Not a ton of TVs, no kitchen, bar, some "private-ish" booths, darts, jukebox and a pool table. Every time I've been there it has indeed been REALLY smokey. More than I would expect at a bar. Might be an airflow issue. Windows being open does help. When we've played pool there, the people have been pretty varied - sometimes way cool and fun, other times real a** holes. We've talked with the owner(s?) several times. The first time they were really pretty cool and friendly, but that was right when they'd opened. The last couple times we were there, they were actually a bit short with us, so we left to go elsewhere.
In the end, I would recommend another bar in the area over this one, but for what it is, it's fine. A bar with tables, booze, ok prices, and some TVs and pool.
This place has potential, but it's got some big downsides.
First, it's extremely smoky. Â Like, hurts your eyes smoky. Â It's manageable in the summer, with their windows open, but in the winter, it's terrible.
Second, they keep the music cranked incredibly loud! Â I don't mind loud music, but it's got a time and a place - and at a bar, it shouldn't overpower conversation.
That being said, I've found the bartender (owner?) to be a really friendly guy and the crowd to be pretty chill. Â I just don't think I'll be going back until they open their windows again.
i would give this place 0 stars because they treated my friends and i like dirt. Â we were paying customers (paid to play pool and bought some beers) and they kicked us out. Â there were maybe 5 people in the whole bar. Â we did not bother or harass anyone but i guess the employees there (who called themselves the owners) did not like that there were people at their bar that were actually having some fun. Â we were playing pool and singing along to the music and dancing. Â nothing out of the ordinary but they took back the beer we purchased and told us to get the f**k out! Â they refused to refund our money. Â they accused us of being drunk (which we were not) and also threatened to use "judo" on one of my friends. Â
i have never in my whole life been kicked out of a bar or any establishment for that matter. Â it was an embarrassment!! it was an awful experience and i will make sure never to step foot in that bar ever again and tell anyone and everyone i know to do the same.
Cool chill sports bar in Uptown. This place is totally like the old bar you use to hang out in your college town. Its got a good vibe jukebox, FREE pool table, darts, and good daily drink specials. There is nothing fancy about this place, its low key, chill and very easy going. Â No food served here, but if your hungry the taco joint next door (Taqueria Mr. Salsa) will bring some kick ass cheap food over to you. I've also had pizza delivered here, highly encouraged by the kick ass husband / wife owners. Â Bar staff is great, you'll feel like a regular instantly.
DOG LOVERS REJOICE: Best part about this bar... it's dog friendly. Â I bring my dog in all the time to hang out while my friends and I put back a few brews.
