Um, okay. Let me put it to you like this:
I'm glad that this kind of party/club atmosphere exists so close to home but this type of party just isn't for me.
Usually, Long Island only does bars and I have to travel all the way in to NYC or the Hamptons for this kind of dancey pants atmosphere (Or fucking hell, China. Best. Night. Ever.) but what do you know, there was a night of dancing to be had just up the block from me!
That said, waaaay too Jersey Shore for my taste. The dudes were not giving me any sort of play and I was not giving them any sort of play: we mutually disliked each other, which was fine. The bar was nice, 2 tiered, half indoor, half outdoor and right on the water. Even though the drinks were weak, I enjoyed being there. I just wish the crowd was better and more inviting.
I'll probably go again but meh. What I really got from this experience is that if this place exists so close to home, maybe there are others. Onwards and upwards.
Its a pretty cool concept. Â There are just a few problems, one the prices are a bit high, I guess due to the location and the uniqueness of the bar makes the prices acceptable. Â The second and much bigger issue is the fact I went on a Friday night in June and they made a "last call" at midnight. Â By last call I mean they quietly closed up the bar and it was only noticed when we tried ordering more drinks. Â They eventually kicked us out by 12:30 which is incredibly early to be leaving a bar on a Friday night. Â I'd consider going back if there wasn't a threat of the bar closing so early. Â If closing at 12:30 is the norm I'd suggest to skip this bar.
Review Source:Follow up from original review.Adam saved the day and will continue to keep us as customers. We were invited down tonight so they could make things right and they did exactly that. Food was awesome and the service even better. Lauren was the ideal server, prompt, knowledgeable and friendly. What a difference a week makes and we hope all future visits provide the same results. Completely satisfying experience.
Great place to get ripped off by inadequate staff. We were charged for 10 beers after having at most 6 and were then given an attitude when questioning that.Bartenders have no personality and seem to look past you when ordering drinks. Its a shame that the service sucks so bad for such a nice place
I gotta say, I've never had a more frustrating experience at a bar in my life than I've had at this place this weekend.
Saturday night, I had plans to meet a big group of friends here for a friend's birthday party, but I was working late. I showed up at 12:30, which at any other decent place in New York, is when things are really just starting. But as I walked up to give my ID to the bouncer, he told me that the "doors" were closed for the night.
I tried to explain my situation to the bouncer but he wasn't hearing it and kept cutting me off. Now as he's completely shutting me down, A LOT of people are leaving. I can see that if the place was at capacity, they would stop letting people in. But there's no walls, I can see inside the fucking bar - the place was half full.
So I wait, because it's my best friend's birthday and I'm not going home. They turned down a lot of people, and the bouncers laughed and made gay slurs at a lot of them, behind their backs. However, several groups of juiced-up drunks show up and apparantly knew some of the bouncers, and all got let in while I stood there watching. But the next group that comes up and slaps the bouncer's hand, I saw my opportunity and snuck in with.
So now that I'm finally in, I'm ready to spend my money on some $5 Bud Light cans. I stayed here with my friends until almost 3am, puzzled the entire time about why they would stop letting customers in 3 (or more?) hours before close. This place is only any good in the summer, you'd think they would want to make as much money as they could.
Now that I think of it, I've been here several times before and have had problems. An arbitrary 23+ age limit for males one time, and another when my friend was denied entry because he was wearing a yellow Polo shirt, which is apparantly forbidden or else you'll be confused with the humungous monster bouncers they have working here.
In conclusion, Dublin Deck has a great summer atmosphere, but that's about all it has going for it. The staff are complete assholes without any regard for it's patrons. If you're going to go, do it during the daytime when you can avoid the ridiculous $10 cover charge, or at least go early enough if you can - my friends said they waited 45 minutes to get in when they got there at 11.
I've been to a lot of bars all over the world, and this is the first one that I felt compelled to look up my Yelp password, sign in, and write a terrible review about. That should say it all.
Let me preface by saying this place does have a good look and a pretty decent location for a during the day lunch and a few drinks out. Â I can't exactly tell you how the food is, I was here on a Saturday night.
Now let me tell you in 2 words what a Saturday night here is like... Jersey Shore.
Done. Â All you need to know. Â The night was sponsored by Ed Hardy and enough hair gel to light the tiki torches for the rest of the summer.
A band played, Pete Moss and the Fertilizers which have been around forever and always good. Â They played from 10pm-11pm. Â An unreal hour that was totally worth the $10 cover. Â Oh, and the $6 Blue Point beer in a can. Â
Picking up sarcasm on that last paragraph? Â Good, Because I laid it on pretty thick!
Skip it.
Came here with some friends on the last Friday night of the season.
I was taken aback when I was asked to pay a $10 cover, but didn't feel as robbed when I saw That 70's Band was performing -- so I'd like to think some of that money went directly to the band, who totally rocked (they deserve a 5-star rating).
The crowd was mostly older and a few folks who arrived way before we did embarrassed themselves by getting incredibly drunk, stumbling around, and almost passing out.
We requested a table and waited about 15 minutes, which wasn't bad considering how packed it was and that people weren't moving. Â The food was lacking and the service was pretty terrible. Â I asked if they had cider (they don't) or smoothies (on the kids' menu), but they were out -- our server said it was the end of the season. Â I requested water, which only arrived after asking a second time.
The calamari was alright; the seven dipping sauces made it more exciting. Â My burger was not too thrilling.
Overall, it was good to see friends in an outdoor atmosphere, but I'd skip coming back here again.
Gross.
I was born and raised in Long Island and am proud of where I come from. In fact, I am always the first to defend my beloved Island from haters in the city. Dublin Deck, however, is an embarrassment and makes me hang my head in shame.
Since when did LI turn into the Jersey Shore?
I went on Thursday night. It was very crowded with way too many meat heads wearing Ed Hardy and Aqua Di Gio and most girls sporting fake tans, fake hair, and fake...well...
And why does nobody smile anymore? All the people at the Deck looked mad or bored - why so serious? Maybe the Bud Light and shitty music is to blame.
Its a shame that I couldn't enjoy this place because the location and concept is great. Maybe it is better during the day or on another night...I don't really care to find out.
Bring your tiki and great freaky...
There is a road in Patchogue where there are not one, but three outdoor parties going on. Â We hit 2 out of 3 (which ain't bad as per Meatloaf...) Â
Dublin Deck rocks. Â We had an absolute blast - live music, big plates of greasy bar food and fun in the evening sun- really what more could you ask for? Â (Ok a BJ by the volleyball net would be great too...)
There are 2 levels- the lower level also gets you to the volleyball net while the upper is a bit more enclosed and has some tables way in the corner.
The place is no frills- plastic cups, sand, unpaved parking lot- you get the picture- put your summer stuff on or dress to impress- forget the heels though... Â I had to keep unsticking my partner in her stilettos...it was a sight...
Prices are a bit high - but it is an outdoor summer place so deal with it.
Go!
Jason C pretty much nailed it with his FTR of Dublin Deck last year. As a patron both before and after the renovations, I must say they did a pretty great job sprucing this place up.
Agreed about the drink prices - you need to make friends with a bartender in order to get a hook up here - otherwise your night out will cost you mad loot. Although my crew and I do have a bartender "friend" here, I have to say that I don't think the bartenders are all that hot. Maybe the summer '09 crew was sexier.
And $5 for an overcooked Topps burger at the outside BBQ? Glad someone else is always drunk and stupid enough to fall for that...
I also don't like paying $10 cover and not getting anything for it. I never see a band, the music is usually pretty shitty from the DJ inside, and why the hell am I paying cover on a Thursday anyway? If I had my way I'd probably just go to Riverview in Oakdale but my friends for some reason always want to go to Deck.
Overall Deck is 2.5 star joint and I have a feeling it's rating (which will be at that marque as soon as I click "Post") will stay there.
Food at the Off Key Tiki is pretty good..I had a pretty tasty lime grilled shrimp with an interesting strawberry based salsa last summer.
Yes it's overpriced, and I didn't see too much of the Nordic Track toned Boo-Tay as described by someone else..as it was mid day and I was with my wife and kid....... But non the less, I'd go here again for a few brews in the sun and some decent food.
This place has been completely renovated for 2009. Â I stopped in there yesterday and it is NICE. Â There are 2 points I need to hit on specifically, but I'll get to them in a moment. Â The parking lot is still the same, dirt/gravel lot. Â It's huge, and there is plenty of ample parking, but...it's dirt and shitty looking. Â It just adds a somewhat negative feeling to the place. Â That's probably just my opinion though. Â
The owners of this place must've spared no expense, because this place was nice before, but now it is great. Â The atmosphere is a wonderful, tiki-bar type theme which offers plenty of space, and is in the traditional waterfront, open-air style. Â Seating is ample, it's handicapped accesible, etc etc. Â OK, enough of that garbage, now on to the important stuff and my previous mentioned points.
This place is EXPENSIVE. Â I guess they need to pay for that fancy new renovation somehow, but come on. Â A CAN of Bud is $5.00. Â You don't even get a glass. Â I mean, I guess $5 a beer isn't unheard of, but for Christs sake, at least put it in a glass and let me THINK it's coming from a tap, or poured from a bottle. Â $30 six packs aren't exactly my thing. Â If you want something other than a Bud/Bud Light, it'll cost more. Â God help you if you desire a drink with liquor in it. Â The high prices carry over to the food menu as well. Â We had the buffalo chicken tidbits, and the crab cakes (both appetizers), which were very good, but NOT worth the money. Â $9.00 and $11 respectively. Â This would be tolerable except that the portions were tiny.
Overall, I give it 3 out of 5 stars. Â If you want good food, mediocre drinks, and a GREAT atmosphere/view, check it out. Â As for me, I probably won't be back unless it's just to end the night with a nightcap, or I'm not driving. Â As a blue collar guy, I just can't justify the price, especially when the bartender, when asked, tells me "We don't do buy backs here".
