My boyfriend and I love ed's lobster so we came and went on an absolute order frenzy. Long story short, lobster rolls were delish as always with big chunks of tail and sweet claws. Lobster galette was a complete waste of money. $10 for just one potato pancake is what it really is (almost no trace of lobster). Lobster pot pie wad excessively salty. So salty that it negated the fact that it had large chunks of lobster in it. Lobster bisque had good flavor, but no pieces of lobster. Lobster ravioli, always a hit.

I decided I was going to start my birthday celebration a tad earlier this (a couple days) and satiate my lobster roll craving. Being that I work in SoHo I used yelp to find this place. The pictures of the lobster rolls look AMAZING!!! They portion of lobster in them looks extremely generous, with lobster exploding out of the bun. HOOK, LINE, AND SINKER! I'm sold! Ironically I've walked past this place hundreds of times and never noticed it. I placed a to-go order over the phone. The lady who answers was warm and pleasant. I ordered my lobster, and was informed it would be ready in 15 minutes. AWESOME! I could just stroll on over from my office and be there with a few minutes to spare. Once I walk in, the woman at the bar greets me right away. I tell her that I placed an order over the phone. Once I get to the bar, she hands me my order, and I pay. Once again I have to reiterate how nice she was. I would give them 5 stars for the customer service. I pay and head out of there like a bat out hell! I need to get back to my office and wolf down this lobster roll ASAP!!! The walk back to my office takes me significantly less time than the walk from. I get to my desk, rip open the bag pull out box that's housing the dream lobster roll. I open the box, look down at what should be a monstrous the lobster roll... what I see does not look like the the beautiful rolls in the pictures, It's significantly smaller. For a second I think.. did some lobster fall out and somehow "phase" through the container into the bag??? I look in the bag, I then look at the underside of the container, thinking "maybe there was a hole!!". I finally have to accept the sad reality of my skimpy lobster roll. I frown at my desk and let a small sigh. Well, let's see how it taste...

    1. The texture of the lobster is pretty good. Cooked well and not chopped up to death. (I prefer larger chunks of lobster)
    2. The mayonnaise mixture is a tad bit watery, but the flavor is pretty good. The amount of mayo used is good. Perhaps the watery mixture happened in transit.
    3. The bun is buttered, and toasted to perfection.

However I noticed that in most of the pictures on Yelp there seems to be either a chive or scallion garnish on the lobster rolls. Mine had no such garnish. Once again, maybe in transit the garnish came off... who knows?!!?!

My roll also came with fried and Ed's pickles. Both of which were pretty good.

At a price tag of $31, it's a little steep for the portion of lobster given. But it tasted good. Not the best lobster roll I've had, but it did satiate my craving.

    In a nutshell:

    Customer Service: 5 stars
    Lobster Roll: 2.5 stars
    Fries: 3 Stars
    Pickles: 3 stars

I have been here twice and both times didn't make scream I want more.

Their lobster rolls are average.  For me, it is a bit too wet and soggy probably due to the mayo mixture they add into the lobster stuffing.  The bread on the other hand though is delicious and buttered up.  The bread tends to be the deal breaker.  This roll goes for $20+, I rather not come here for the rolls only.  Their clam chowder was too watery for my taste even though it was very flavorful.  It's hard to find the right chowder texture in general.  Oyster bacon sliders were good but the oysters were too small!  Go to the Penrose in the UES for fatty delicious oyster sliders.

Venue is cute and narrow.  I sat at the bar both times, which is the faster alternative if there is a wait.  If you happen to be in the area with no other choices to eat, just try it out!

There's something about walking into a simple, clean interior that's appetizing. The options are limited but that's perfect. You will spend nights dreaming about the lobster roll and fries. It holds up to its reputation all day everyday.

Stopped in for lunch the other day for a Lobster BLT. The sandwich was delicious, with large pieces of lobster and crispy bacon. But I'm not sure it was worth the price (sandwich and beer -$34).
This restaurant is very small, which was perfectly fine for lunch. I could see it being a bit crammed at dinner.

So excited that I finally got around to getting a lobster roll.  Although some of the pictures makes it seems like it has a lot of mayo, it was pretty light which is the way I like it.  It comes with a decent side of fries and vinegar pickles.  Only complaint, felt like $29 for a lobster roll is too pricey especially when it normally goes for about $15-$20 elsewhere but the chocolate lobsters at the end was a nice touch.

Fantastic! Best ipswich clams ever. 1/2 price champagne on Monday. Snow days best spent here.

    Favorite restaurant in NYC. easy.

Starts with Oysters...shucked right there and served with some great sides to add.  Fantastic.

To the Lobster roll...Best Lobster rolls in NYC, and definitely in contention for best in the NE.  Even the fries are well done, with the vinegar pickles serving as a great side as well.

And to top it off, fantastic little chocolate lobsters.  All this on top of some pretty good drink selections.

This is one of my "must visits" when I'm back in NYC. Stopped in last week for an early dinner. The lobster roll is crazy and the atmosphere is unpretentious and enjoyable. If you love lobster, get this roll. It's packed with lobster meat and they don't cover it in mayo. Instead, you get butter and they serve the meat on a butter soaked, toasted roll (almost like a buttery crouton on the inside of the roll and soft on the outside of the roll). Well worth the money. We had some oysters too. I think we over-did it food wise. I was so stuffed I could barely finish my lobster (which would have been sacrilege). If you love sweet, untainted lobster and don't mind paying for excellent food, check out Ed's.

The lobster rolls are amazing, but don't overlook the full belly fried clam roll.  Hard to beat and tough to choose between the two.  I decided to order the lobster roll and an order of fried clams as an appetizer so I did not need to choose.  This will definitely be a weekly stop.

Get those littleneck clams! Very good, and a much better deal versus the oysters, which were good, but not worth double the price.

We just went for some a snack of bi-valves and were pleasantly pleased. However, we should have gotten those lobster rolls, there were pretty amazing. Very cute looking place too, lots of bar seating (obviously) and a little seating area in the back.

Next time, I'm gonna get extras of those lobster chocolates!

We had the oyster platter, lobster roll and linguini clam. Overall the food was decent and fresh but I wasn't blown away.

The raw oysters were fresh with our favorite being the Canadian and least favorite the Long Island (as expected). The lobster roll was probably on par with some I had in Maine, but nothing extraordinary. The Linguini was a large portion and probably the most filling part of the meal which I enjoyed. The pasta was al dente and the sauce flavorful with plenty of clams.

My favorite part of the meal may be the small adorable lobster shaped chocolate they gave us at the end! The chocolate was so unexpectedly nice while the meal was pretty much as expected. Yes, I know I just reviewed a lobster restaurant and resisted the urge to give them an extra star just for a piece of cute chocolate. :)

Why is lobster so tasty? Or more importantly why is it so expensive?

Ed's Lobster, in my opinion, is far too pricey. $28.00 for a medium-sized lobster roll and fries is quite over the top...BUT delicious, one of the best I've had! As for the lobster pot pie, I was not a fan. It is really more of a lobster pot soup, with a puffy pastry floating on top, and to me the flavors were too rich and a bit too fishy for my taste.

The service was sweet, the bar atmosphere is cute but the back seating area is just okay, and it was pretty chilly in there the entire time we were eating.

Would I return? I'm not too sure. I would recommend investigating other cheaper options before Ed's Lobster Bar. If your in the area and don't mind spending the extra buck, you're guaranteed a good roll!

Steamers: This is probably one of the most interesting things I've tried recently. I'm not usually a fan of clams but these were so plump and buttery. You get this massive bowl of clams, which I highly recommend sharing with at least one other person since there are only so many clams you can eat before it's just too much. You take the clam out of the shell and have to remove this black "sock" off of it's long foot. To be honest, it's not the prettiest sight but trust me, it delicious. After the clam is de-socked, you dip it into this mug of hot water that comes along with it, and rinse off any residual sand from the shell. Then you dip it into hot butter and voila! Bon appetit! It's really fun to go on a lazy sunny Sunday afternoon and have a glass of wine and steamers. (Word of advice, make sure to wash your hands immediately afterwards otherwise you'll smell a bit fishy for the rest of the day.)

Lobster roll: Amazing. One of the top 3 in NYC.

Oyster Sampler: A great way to try 5 different types of oysters. They're always very fresh and never fishy.

I've been here so many times, but mainly with one of my best friends. We discovered this place together awhile back and it has been our spot since. ... and man we do alot of "first times" together when it comes to eating. Ed's is the only place we constantly crave. Lobster Ravioli, come to me now!

My mom and I went for my birthday and it was so good. I got the lobster raviolis and she got a lobster roll, both were excellent. I also got this lemonade and vodka drink, so good. If you have the chance check this place out. The only downside is you have to wait a bit, but it is one of those places that is actually worth the wait. I'll be going back soon.

I love this spot.  I drop in there every chance I get on the weekend when I'm in the neighborhood.  I've never gotten table.  I like to sit at the end of the bar near the front window and watch the oyster shucking.

I know, I know everybody talks about the lobster rolls.  They're fantastic.  But the last time I was there I went for the sea scallops.  They were the best thing I'd eaten in months and months.  Here see for yourself: <a href="/redir?url=https%3A%2F%2Ftwitter.com%2Fstevencobb%2Fstatus%2F252159181648429057%2Fphoto%2F1&s=a9b3030e95296cff9a1ed4ad88d9dc22fbb87c1e8273b5c750cc615894497716" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">https://twitter.com/stev…</a>  Truly exceptional.

I love a random find, especially when it turns into a delicious coincidence.

My friend and I had an early brunch, and were feeling peckish, when we were shopping in the SoHo area. I was about to suggest the NoHo star, when my friend said she passed a lobster bar on her way to meet me earlier.

Um, hello heaven. We both ordered lobsters and shared a giant mountain of shoe string fries. I dug in and savored every bite. The cocktails are equally tasty -- try the chili lime margarita.

My only gripe (and it's small) is that we had to sit at the bar. If I didn't have several bags with me, I wouldn't normally mind. But it was pretty busy, so glad we got seats!

    Server and bartender were excellent.

There are some real characters that stroll in for dinner. I overheard someone grill the bartender about how "homemade" the "homemade" dessert really is.

After our original reservations falling through we were hoping we could snag a table at this restaurant. Luckily we were able to. When walking in there is a long bar and a small sitting area in the back with a few tables. Its a small place but very cute.

We grabbed a seat at the bar and checked out the specials for the night written on the chalk board. We also checked out the menu which is a handy dandy place mat. While reviewing the menu we ordered our drinks. Bf got the lobster beer so fitting for this place. They had some great mixed drinks. I decided to get the first one on the menu i forgot the name. It was a vodka lemonade ice tea mix with a hint of mint.  I wish though they used a simple syrup in their drinks because sipping sugar at the bottom of the glass is def not good eats.

We decided on a few apps fried pickles, fried oysters blt sliders which come 3 to an order and tuna tartar.  I got the famous lobster roll and the bf got lobster pot pie.  Fried pickles were nice and crisp not oily. Tarter sauce was homemade and went perfectly with the pickles.   Fried oysters blt was unique. The oysters were pretty large seasoned well and very good. Buns were hand cut and toasted with a ripe tomato lettuce and mayo. the star was the beautiful oyster. The tuna tartar was made right in front of us.  So id say it was pretty fresh.  It was simply seasoned and garnished with fried zucchini. I thought this dish was excuted perfectly. It was a large order. I do wish it came with more zucchini. I was so looking forward to the lobster roll.  This was an utter surprise when i got it. i was not expecting the super large pieces of lobster on top of the warm toasted roll.  I was told the lobster would be cold. it was seasoned simply but it is all about the lobster. It came with a side of tangy pickles and crunchy fries. This dinner was perfect.  The lobster pot pie came in what else a pot with chunks of lobster creamy lobster broth and a ton of veggies and a puff pastry on top. Its was flavored good but it was more of a bisque instead of a pot pie.

The staff strives to accommodate you and does a great job doing so.  The real stand outs was the lobster roll and tuna tartar.

One thing i was not happy with was the bathroom. It was a mess. Please keep up with cleaning it .  It shows a lot when you keep up with the bathroom. Attention to detail is key!!

I've only had the lobster roll here, so I'm not sure how much of a "review" this will be - but anyway, here goes:

I love the space - clean, narrow, and efficient - just like me. Service was friendly and professional.

I am a lobster roll expert, and theirs was done well - definitely a 8 out of 10. Not to mayo heavy, and they obviously use just tails and claws. Bun was nice, toasted and warm.

A bit on the pricey side, but given the neighborhood and the quality of the product, thats ok by me.

Good selection of wines and beer, and staff was super helpful in walking me through the beers, since my craft beer game is a bit rusty since college.

Judging from what other people were having, everything seems really fresh and really high quality.

I work in the area and will 100% be back to try some more stuff and update this lackluster review.

After two 5-star visits I can say without hesitation that this is one of my favorite meals in the city...well, one of my favorite seafood places for sure. I feel like despite its proximity to the ocean, NYC is kinda lacking in really good traditional seafood places (aka fried-clams and lobster rolls.) Ed's is the exception to that. We also took my mother there who is notoriously tough critic on seafood, and she was won over.

We ordered WAY too much both times. But I admit, if I went back I am not sure what I would leave off the list. Between both visits with different groups, we tried Lobster Roll (5 stars), Fish and Chips (4.5), Blue Cheese Bibb Salad (5), Chowder (4.5), Shrimp Cocktail (5), Broiled Lobster (5), Fried Clams (confessedly didn't try, but others liked), slaw, and french fries (4.5).

My husband likes their mint lemonade. I am not a fan, but that is more of a preference thing. It is a little small inside.  Our group of 6 took up half the room. Other than that, I am a big fan of Ed's.

My friends and I visited this place this place to celebrate a belated birthday and to catch up on life.  We started at the bar with oyster sampler and wine.  The oysters were fresh and delicious.  I wish I remember which oysters I had but alas, I can't remember anything that I don't write down (hence finally being active on Yelp and contributing to the reviews since I religiously use this site ).

We move to the tables and proceeded to order lobster rolls, lobsters, a side of spinach, brussels sprouts with bacon bits (have to be healthy right), and some more oysters.  The food took a while but we were chatting with each other so it didn't really matter.  I didn't try the spinach but my friend said it needed salt.  The brussels sprouts were ok.  The fries/frittes were crunchy and yummy.  The lobster... mmm...  It's hard to screw up lobster and I'm glad to write that Ed's does not screw up its lobster.  Deliciously sweet, fresh and flavorful.  This place does not disappoint.  Price wise, I always have to remind myself that lobsters in the city will be more expensive because rent is higher and mark-ups yada yada (I know my parents are shaking their head at me for ordering out when we can cook like 3 lobsters at home for the price of one in the restaurant).

The only disappointing thing were the other patrons.  I guess my friends and I were being too loud (laughing and such) so we kept getting looks and glances at people around us... at one point I think a lady shushed us so... if you'd like to come here for a social gathering where the volume is louder than a mild whisper then go somewhere else.  Otherwise, the freshness of the shellfish is well worth the visit.

My friend and I came to Ed's on Friday night, and didn't have a problem getting a table. I sat by the bar for a few minutes before my friend arrived, and it looked like a fun spot to have a dinner if you didn't want to wait for a table. I tried the Lobster Ale, given the name, and liked it a lot as it had good taste but wasn't too hoppy. The service was really attentive and friendly.

We started off with the mussels in lobster and fennel broth and 2 oysters each. The oysters were fresh (Wellfleets from CT) and the mussels plentiful and delicious. We  asked for some crusty bread to soak up the broth, and our server happily obliged.

Lobster is hands down one of my favorite dishes (can you blame me?) and I'm not one to discriminate how it's prepared. Given Ed's is famous for their lobster rolls, I definitely wanted to taste it. It did not disappoint in flavor or size and was on par with a lot of the other NYC lobster rolls. The lobster is obviously the main event, but bun is a critical component, and Ed's got it right with a slight buttery, toasted flavor. Would love to try the ravioli and pot pie next time, as they came highly recommended by our waiter.

The atmosphere is casual and fun, and is the perfect spot for a casual dinner date with a friend or significant other. The mini lobster chocolates were a nice touch at the end.

What a great spot on Lafayette....a long and slender entry with a bar that went on for a mile.  Tables in the rear for larger groups for more intimate settings.  The place was decorated as an upscale Maine lobster shack....I liked it.

My lady friend and I sat at the bar near the entry.  We started off by ordering 1/2 dozen shrimp cocktail....which by the way were monsters....bigger than big and a steal at just $3.50 a pop.  The cocktail sauce was spot on (we requested extra horseradish which was fresh).

We polished the cocktail shrimp off and moved on to our meals....conventional lobster roll and a lobster burger.  The lobster burger could have been spiced up a little bit with something besides lettuce, tomato etc but the heart of the lobster burger was good.

The lobster roll was good with nice large chunks of fresh lobster....possibly not as large as Five Islands in Maine but definitely good.

The service was excellent and the drinks are cold (they serve Hofbrauhaus german beer on tap!)

Overall this is a cool spot to grab a cocktail and dinner with a friend, co-worker, or significant other.  I will most likely return.

The only reason this place is getting 4 stars and not 5 is based on the customer service. Our Server was rude, seemed annoyed and back talked a bit for no reason at all except something was probably;y up her butt at the time

My husband and I had just flew in from SF and were visiting friends of ours. We stopped by Ed's around 7pm and the place was packed like a can of sardines. Luckily, our friend new the hostess and put our name in with her and said she would call us when a table was available. We headed over to GoldBar for a round of drinks(check out my review for them) and about30 minutes later we had a table  :)

We were seated in the back but they do have bar seating as well. This place is cramped with tables and chairs but once seated its ok

We ordered a round of drinks and I saw they had a vodka drink with grapefruit and ginger-ale. So i asked for a vodka/ grapefruit and the waitress snipped back, we don't have grapefruit...we're not a full service bar.... OK fine. I felt like she could have handled it in a better way and it didn't need the side comment. After our drinks she asked us if we were ready to order and as we were telling her we needed a few more minutes she huffed and walked off. The hostess ended up taking our order after that. WTH?!

anyway, I ordered the Lobster rolls with fries and this lobster roll was done to perfection! The roll as buttered and toasted nicely and the lobster was fresh and there was tons of it. PLUS, it was no covered in mayo. Just slightly moistened

    I will absolutley be back!

What can I say? This is absolutely an amazing place in all aspects.
Great food. I'm in love with their soup, calamari, and their lobster roll. Their french fries are also super fresh and delicious.
    Good selection of wine too.
Though this place is quite small, the ambiance feels totally great. I love how the decorate this little place with all the smart ideas such as mirrors.
I have to point out how great their service is. The people here just made me happy.
    I'll definitely go back again!

Arrived here at 7pm on a Saturday evening along with 4 other friends, and was seated a little over an hour later.

    What we ordered:

Crab And Artichoke Dip - This was good. We had 2 orders for 5 people.

Brussel sprouts with bacon - As always, anything with bacon is great!

Lobster Roll - This was on par with all the other lobster rolls I've had in the city.

Lobster Pot Pie - Best item we ordered here. The soup was delicious.

They gave us complimentary lobster shaped dark chocolates at the end.

Tip: Not a lot of seating, come early or with a small group!

I absolutely Love Ed's! I've been coming here for years. Fresh Oysters. Yum!
The Lobster bake is so filling and delicious. Double Yum! The lobster has always been steamed perfectly for me. Never over cooked or tough. And its always succulent and tasty when dipped into the warm drawn butter. A huge pot of mussels is only like $10 bucks. You cant beat that if you're in a seafood mood and stop in for an inexpensive meal.

Great waiters and waitresses that actually get to know you. Kinda makes you feel like you're stepping into cheers. Everybody knows your name... Yeah now it's in your head!

Its not a huge place so sometimes you have to wait, but it's not an obscene amount of time. I've never felt the need to make a reservation. I just walk right in and I'm usually seated fairly quickly. It's much busier in the summer time.

I have no complaints. This place has great food, really good drinks. Check out their wine list or try their infamous Blueberry Gimlet. Uber tasty!

I'm not gonna lie their dessert menu leaves something to be imagined. Ive tried the ice cream sandwich. It was alright but probably wouldn't have it again. It's literally ice cream in the middle of a lobster roll bun. Kinda blah!

The creme brûlée was good and I can't remember what other dessert Ive had.

Either way definitely check this place out. I am a seafood lover and adore this place!

Oh I almost forgot at the end of your meal you get a decadent dark chocolate lobster on a chilled plate. Always a great end to a great meal!

I enjoyed this place ... for about 3-4 bites.  Then everything (including the side of sautéed spinach) was just waaaay too rich to be enjoyable.  Oh, except for the fries were were really tasty.

We shared three things, none of which were impressive:

Lobster Pot Pie - I've had this at nice restaurants before, but at Ed's it's literally just their lobster bisque with some added veggies (giant mushrooms and a few green beans) tossed in. Anyone who's eaten lobster bisque knows it's MUCH too rich to be eaten in any sort of large quantity ... namely, a lobster pot pie entree. The half of a flaky "biscuit" floating on top made it impossible to eat everything together, since the biscuit was so tough that it could barely be cut even after I moved it to a separate plate and attempted to cut it with a knife and fork (really, I ended up basically having to saw-rip it).  The whole point of pot pie IMO is that you get a bite of flaky crust with a spoonful of stew; this rendition really failed at that.  So disgustingly rich that neither of us even attempted to finish it (we left about half -- and we never leave food, especially when it costs $25!)

Lobster Burger - basically a crab-cake sandwich, but with lobster meat.  Again, a little weirdly flavored.  I asked for no mayo on the sandwich, but the waiter said he couldn't make it sans mayo; when it arrived, the mayo was just smeared on the bun, so I'm guessing the chef has some principle against serving the sandwich without the sauce.  The mayo was pretty spicy.  Anyway, definitely wasn't a fan of the seasoning in the lobster burger itself, nor in the accompanying burger parts (plain old bun, plain cold onions, plain slice of tomato, plain leaf of lettuce).  The fries, like I said, were delish.

Sautéed spinach - now at a place where everything on the menu is loaded with butter or cream, we wanted a little something healthy/green.  Unfortunately, the spinach side came out bathed in heavy olive oil and doused in salt.  Blegh.

The restaurant is small, so they've of course squished a lot of seating into the room; unfortunately, all of the patrons and waiters were constantly knocking into each other.   I got two knocks to the head because my seat was located along the path to the bathroom.  I can totally usually deal with average claustrophobia/knocks (chock it up to Manhattan restaurants), but this was way above average to the point of being really disruptive.

The table next to us got the whole steamed lobster, which I guess might be the way to go here (since everything prepared was a let down) ... but as I watched them painstakingly dismember their lobsters with complaints about how much work it was, I remembered why I hadn't ordered one.

I definitely don't feel the need to return here, and certainly won't be recommending it.

My buddy and I rented an apartment on Airbnb, and we were on the same block as Ed's Lobster Bar.  The Yelp reviews were enough to sell us on trying this restaurant out, so we came here on a Tuesday night for dinner.  I wasn't super hungry, so I had the lobster bisque while my friend had the classic lobster roll.  Both were amazing, and this place would probably be 5 stars had it not been for the underwhelming service.

We had grabbed a seat and were greeted quickly, but then promptly forgotten about after we said we needed a minute to order.  It took way too long to get our waiter to come back and take our order.  My water went empty, and a request to another staff member to refill my water went forgotten.  And the place wasn't even that busy... we were in after the dinner rush!

Hopefully this was just a one time occurrence.  If you like lobster, I would definitely give it a shot.

I think this is my favorite lobster roll in the city.

Went here the other night for dinner, a couple of us had the Maine style lobster roll (with mayo) topped with some finely chopped chives and served with perfectly cooked fries, just well done enough to give them great crunch effect.

Another in our party had the boullebaise, which although it did not look that big in its vessel, the smallish cast pot was stuffed with a solid amount of mussels, clams, a large lobster claw, and scallops. They loved it, and said it was the perfect mix of hot warmth needed to fend off the cold evening chill, but light enough to sit well on top of our heavier lunch choice (Thai's Center Point) which although delicious, left us all stuffed for hours.

The only thing I would do differently next time, would be to ask for a side of drawn butter to drizzle a little extra sabor onto that tasty crustacean.

I'm spoiled. I'll admit it. Boston is not that far away, and Neptune Oyster is the best lobster roll I've ever tasted in my life.

That being said, I've been on the hunt for the best lobster roll in NYC. Went to Ed's Lobster Bar on Sunday after catching the rodeo at MSG.

Got there around 4:30, was told it was bar-only seating til the "dining room" opened at 5. We decided to wait for a real table so we could have space, but were seated in the aisle so that every time someone new walked into the "dining room" (I keep using quotation marks because it was just the back part of the bar area), I had to scoot my chair up.

The food was decent. The shrimp cocktail was the best part, the lobster roll was good, but not very big for the price. The cocktails were REALLY strong.

The main reason Ed's gets such a low star rating, in my book, was the FLIES. Oh God, I thought it was nasty. There were little fruit flies EVERYwhere. I counted 7 (SEVEN!!!!) on a framed photo next to our table. If there are that many flies in the eating area, it makes my stomach turn to think how many are in the kitchen where the food is being prepped. Ugh.

If they could get rid of the fly problem, I would go back. 100%. Until then, I'll keep looking for the best lobster roll in the city.... preferably with no bugs or vermin keeping me company while I eat.

I love, love, love this place!

The staff is always great. We went for lunch today and they were 1 person short with a packed house. Still received friendly service and food came out promptly.

Their oyster sliders are the perfect bite. Huge flavorful shrimp cocktail. Lobster bisque and clam chowder are done well.

Lobster pot pie is sinfully delicious.

I always come back for their lobster rolls. Filled with juicy lobster chunks, simply seasoned, buttery roll... It always delivers. Fries are always perfectly crispy.

Little chocolate lobsters with the bill is a great way to end a great meal. This place never disappoints!

    A relatively small menu.

Tuna tartare - I could/should have eaten this all by myself!

Clam chowder (with one fresh clam) - tasty!

Lobster pot pie - Super rich and creamy. The broth and flaky biscuit top ooze of butter.   This may too rich to eat on my own.

Lobster rolls are my current obsession. My NYC friend told me Ed's has the best.
Literally was the 1st stop when we got into town & it was all we could think about the entire time we were in NYC. Luckily we went when there was no wait time & the bar tender was not only cooler than a penguin- he was nice to look at too. *wink wink*
Lobster roll is overflowing with lobster & the bread is hot, buttery & soft. I paired my roll with a bloody mary that had an oyster in it- tasty tasty.

Ed's will have a permanent spot in my NYC MUST-DO list.

It was like a bad dream.

For months I have been walking by... drooling with anticipation of the day I would waltz in here and treat myself to the one dish that would make my tastebuds EXPLODE like no other... a dish that would make all my problems go away... make all right in the world with its glorious seafood delishness. A dish that would make memories... move mountains... and create a glorious instagram upload at which my friends would marvel and "like" for hours on end.

Of course, I am speaking of The Lobster Pot Pie.

Today was the day. Finally. I sat down at the bar with the bravado of a sailor... brushed the menu away from me... "Lobster Pot Pie!!" I yelled to the bartender ... unable to contain my excitement knowing the dish of my desire would tonight, finally, be mine.

The wait seemed like hours. The clam chowder didn't help. I wanted that pot pie. Big chunks of lobster. A savory bread. The sauce... Oh, the sauce! Then, finally, it arrived.

I lunged for my fork! But wait! I must instagram! My friends from around the world must see this Pot Pie! Let them share in the glory that would soon be mine!

I pulled back the crust. Ah... the sweet steam. I reached in, to pull to the top that sweet, red, juicy lobster... to further enhance the photo that would make grown men cry and women swoon.

But, there was no lobster to be found.

"There must be some mistake!", I thought. Perhaps I had mis-forked it. Perhaps it was further down below. I kept digging...

    And there wasn't very much.

I pulled up all of the lobster I could find, snapped the pathetic photo you can now see in the gallery here... and sadly, ate my mushroom, potato, carrot, and barely-any-lobster broth.

There would be no instagram photo. There would be no Facebook upload. There would be no full stomach (I grabbed a taco from La Esquina afterwards to fill up), and there will be no return visit to Ed's Lobster Bar.

The bar that broke my heart.
