Happy to see Edzo's expanding to Lincoln Park. That said, I still prefer the Evanston location.
You see, this location only offers the thin, griddled burgers and not the thick, juicy char burgers of its North Shore sibling. To be fair, I did know this prior to my visit and it was fine because I was having an early dinner that evening and devouring a huge burger for lunch would've made no sense. But when I want to indulge in a burger, it generally has to be substantial and worth the calories--the kind that renders me so full that I need to take a nap after eating.
Edzo's burgers are all made to order and if you prefer a thin patty then you will enjoy it. Fries and milkshakes are always first-rate and well worth a trip on their own. I'm definitely going to have to go back and try the lobster fries.
I love what Eddie (Edzo) is trying to do here: offering standard Americana fare but emphasizing quality, locally-sourced ingredients that support nearby farmers. Obviously he takes great pride in the end result and his passion is evident.
Aside from the burgers, my other favorite thing to get here is an inside-out grilled cheese. It's got a crunchy layer of parmesan on the outside and melty, cheesy goodness on the inside. So if you're a vegetarian and you don't want a veggie burger or a portabella burger (which are also offered), then you must try the grilled cheese. It will knock your socks off.
Seating here is also more limited than the Evanston location; it's very tight quarters. The staff is unfailingly friendly but the hours are also cruelly limited. I'm hoping that will change.
Well done, Edzo. Well done.
Smashed, griddled burgers are the best type of burgers. WANNA FIGHT ABOUT IT?
I never made it to the Evanston location, but this one is just down the street and I'm happy to report the burgers are worthy of the millions of words written about them. Â I was very pleasantly surprised by the fries -- I haven't always been the biggest fry person but the fries here are the best in Chicago (Buffalo and Taylor Street are the best). Â Haven't tried the shakes since my typical order here is already probably 1500 calories, but maybe someday...
Walked in and immediately dug the vibe. I love the fact that the guy who took my order had a huge burger tattoo on his arm and asked "what kind of cheese?" rather than "do you want cheese?"
Got a single burger with grilled onions, shrooms, cheddar cheese, garlic butter and ketchup/mustard. Very good burger, probably could've done a double.
Asked the burger tattoo guy taking my order his favorite variation of their many fry combinations. He recommended the garlic fries, which were good not great. Solid fries, just didn't dig the garlic, especially since I got the garlic butter on the burger, bad move by me. Next time will definitely try a different type of fries.
Omar is the shake guy. He kills it. Had the banana shake, which I'm a sucker for, and really enjoyed it.
Small place with a couple counters and tables. I really like the vibe, extremely friendly staff and great burgers, would highly recommend for anyone looking for a great burger bar.
I had a turkey burger here and it was really good I also had the Taylor Street Fries which have peppers and "Italian Beef Gravy" on them. Â I asked the portly Italian-looking fellow taking my order if he could put a little of his own gravy on 'em while he's at it and he merely glanced at me quizzically while I raised my eyebrows to further cue him. Â To my great disappointment there was very little "gravy" on my fries, but I am giving them five stars nonetheless.
He also gave me a cup for water. Â The water here is clean and not contaminated by the lemonade in the dispenser it shares. Â I drank it out of a classic paper cup which helps keep from ruining the true flavors of the water. Â Overall, I'd call the water here "crisp" with surprisingly no aftertaste and at a good temperature (cold but not TOO cold). Â I've had better water before but the water here complements the cuisine well, it pairs best with the garlic butter and will satiate just about any water connoisseur's parched panting palate with just one gulp. Â The speed at which the water was dispensed into the cup was ample but not impressive, again, still giving five stars but expect more next time.
Amazing! They just made Zagat's top 25 and they earned it! The meat for the burgers is fresh ground in the restaurant every day and you can taste the difference.
Anyone who claims someplace has "an amazing burger" and they use frozen patties just does not know what they're talking about.
The fries are great. The fresh dipped cord dog is amazing too.
AND the Nutella shake! What else needs to be said! It's a Nutella shake!
I LOVE THIS PLACE.
Burgers are delicious.
You can get grass fed and local beef.
The burgers are all cooked just right and are thinner patties.
I usually get a double.
They have a million french fry options.
LOBSTER TOPPING EVEN.
I get shakes even though my waist and pancreas  really insist that I shouldn't.
SALTED CARAMEL! so so good!
The staff are friendly too.
I am immediately suspicious of anyone that doesn't give Edzo's 5 stars. Â This is simply the greatest Burger joint ever. Â There is only one hamburger I've had in my life that even slightly compares, and that was Angler's in Hayward, Wisconsin and I've heard they don't serve burgers anymore. Â So, Edzo's is the best. Â The angry fries, $5 milkshake are musts as well.
Review Source:So happy that Edzos finally opened in the City as have been wanting to eat there forever but with limited hours and only previous location being in Evanston, it was worth the wait!
Basic burger is fantastic ordered with everything, ie onion, pickle, ketchup and mustard as standard condiments, supplimented with an order of either truffle or old fries along with a nutella shake (they even give you the stainless mixer leftovers) and you will be happy as a clam.
Tell your friends but would note its not a huge place and you may end up standing around while a table opens up. Â Â Highly recommended!
Nice little spot that drew me in with the promise of "griddled" hamburgers. Images of the crispy-edge creations from Culver's and Steak 'n' Shake danced in my head. Â Edzo's did not disappoint.
Fresh meat grilled to order. But, unlike Five Guys, Edzo's burgers actually *taste* like something! Â Lots of add-on options, including the possibility of having your burger seared in "garlic butter." Â Smack my head! Why didn't I see that before I ordered? I'll betcha that's the trick to getting a true "butter burger" here in the hood.
14 different kinds of fries--from lobster to garlic to crazy hot. I opted for the standard plain with salt and loved every last crunchy bite.
They're now open until 8pm vs. the 4pm currently stated on Yelp! Â Fairly limited seating--maybe 15 chairs/stools with standing room for another 5 at the window rail. There was one seat open when I walked in for a late lunch, but the other chairs turned over quickly for arriving customers.
Big props to the guy in charge (was that the REAL Edzo?), whose big personality and gift for gab brought home the local flavor.
Tons of street parking available. I haven't been over to Lincoln Ave on a weekday in a while. The street was practically a ghost town now that Children's Hospital is gone.
FINALLY Edzo's opens a location that is more convenient! Over the years my sister would always be telling me about how Edzo's have the BEST milkshakes cause they are nice and thick, their fries have Elite status in her book, and their Grilled Cheese is the best she's ever eaten. So over the years I never had an opportunity arise that had me going anywhere near Evanston during the early hours of the day. Edzo's Burger shop was becoming this mythical restaurant that i never thought I would get an opportunity to try... But once I heard that they were opening in Lincoln Park I marked my calendar. So this was quite a special event for me and Edzo's...all the "fairy tales" I heard about your restaurant became reality.
My sister and I ordered the Grilled Cheese, single patty burger with bacon and a fried egg, the truffle fries, Angry fries, and a milkshake. The grilled cheese was the superstar of the meal. It's everything you would want in a grilled cheese sandwich. Gooey, cheesy, and delicious! It ain't easy being cheesy baby....it's that good. The thing I loved about Edzo's grilled cheese was how they melt cheese on the outside of the sandwich!!!! Geniuses!
The fries were spot on as my sister told me. I loved the angry fries with their hot giardiniera and hot sauce that tasted similar to Frank's red hot sauce. Even though the fries were doused in sauce, they didn't get soggy. MMMmmmm....
The burgers were not bad either. I would recommend getting two patties if you're just going to get a burger though because the patties aren't huge.
Last but not least, the milkshake was really good and thick.
Edzo's is the PERFECT place to get a great burger or grilled cheese, fries, and a shake.
Clean establishment with limited seating so get there and claim your territory. A couple of large tables that are communal. I enjoyed this because it was funny to see all the people staring at our food and licking their lips just waiting to get theirs...and talking about the food is always fun.
Me: I'll have a veggie patty melt, an order of cheese fries, a glass of water, and the spicy mexican chocolate milk shake. What are you having?
Him: (stares in silence)
Me: Um, we can share some of that...
When I went to Edzo's for the first time, I was having a bit of a sensory overload. I ordered like I was on vacation and would never return; although the current hours do make regular visits a bit challenging (albeit good for the waistline). Happily, they plan on extending their hours in the next 1-2 months.
The inside of this place is kitschy and cheery. Yellow walls, old signs, mismatched chairs and big tubs of napkins adorning the communal tables. If I can give you one piece of  advice - take in the decor, not just because it's cool, but because I felt like I was playing Where's Waldo spotting specials scrawled on many of the signs, some less obvious than others.
My burger was probably the low light of my meal at Edzo's. As a non-beef eater, I know I'm not the target customer, but it would be nice if they offered a better veggie patty; this one was a bland puck of a patty. I probably would've enjoyed it more eating it sans veggie patty. My dining companion got a double burger; I heard no complaints and he cleared his plate, so I'll take that as an endorsement. The fries and shake more than made up for my disappointing burger. I'm not sure what goes in the mexican milkshake (on special), but it was fantastic and for $4, a very generous serving. The handcut fries with Merkt's cheddar are also a must order - we devoured those like we just came off a week-long fast.
The communal atmosphere makes Edzo's a friendly place. I actually got the idea for my burger from the buy in front of me and ended up chatting with a few of our table neighbors. I've been lusting after that shake and fries; I can't wait to go back for more.
A undisclosed friend of mine was told me that this was the best burger in the Chicagoland area. Unfortunately I have to deeply disagree with that.
I like the fun look of the place as it kind of reminds me of a Hot Dougs that sells hamburgers minus the 2 hour lines. The have yellow, orange and brown colors all over the walls. Edzos LP is pretty small and has limited seating so on Saturday afternoons in can get pretty tight inside.
On to the food...
The first time I went, I got the single burger along with garlic butter and a fried egg and  swiss cheese. While the add ons definitely made the burger decent, I still felt like something was missing. The fry servings are pretty huge so you can share if you come with a friend/mate. The vanilla shake was pretty damn good though. I came again a few days ago and got a double burger with cheese (american) as well as a huge helping of garlic fries which were recommended by the guy @ the register. He actually said they were the most requested fries on their menu. The fries tasted like garlic in the form of a french fry (I guess they really were garlic fries...lol). The burger had absolutely no flavor and I felt like I wasted $12 on the meal. Im not sure if the burgers are seasoned here, as I judge a good burger on the actual taste of the meat not the stuff you add on to it.
I am disappointed because I have heard awesome things about the Evanston location and there was a huge hype about them coming to LP. They close @ 4:30PM Mon-Sat, but I was told they are seriously thinking about changing that. I would hope so as they are missing out on some good business especially when the summer hits. It might be awhile before I check this place out again.
Pretty charming place I must say. They could tell we had never been in before but I had so many amazing things about the Evanston location. I don't get the hours, 10:30-4? What about the dinner (or drunk crowed after hours?). I know the one in Evanston is always packed despite the hours so when I saw that this location was coming in just down the street from my place, I was more than a little thrilled. We came back from Florida and stopped in and were one of three groups waiting for takeout. I got just a regular single patty with the usual toppings minus the mustard. The bf got a double patty burger with an order of fries. I thought the burger was good but not the best I've ever had. I didn't try a shake though and to my understanding, they are so amazing they have a guy that is solely responsible for the preparation of said shakes and the flavors are out of this world and interesting. They also have lots of variations of fries and I would be game to try any of them. The regulars fries were good and the perfect balance of crunchy and chewy and not too salty. Inside the restaurant is beautiful with a lovely mural representing the neighborhood. There aren't a lot of seats but then again it wasn't that crowded so they can probably get away with it. The staff was quite charming and the prices weren't bad either. I will be back (if I can make it before 4pm)!
Review Source:This was a disappointment, not because it was that bad, but because I had heard the hype and I had higher hopes.
First the loaded fries: Excellent. Great cheese, well cooked fresh cut fries.
Nutella shake: this to me was at best an average shake. There wasnt enough flavor from the Nutella. I don't know if those who enjoy it love the idea of it, or if I just didn't get enough Nutella.
Lastly the burger: One star. $5 for a cheeseburger that was very plain on a bun that wasn't good enough for the McDonalds value menu.
There were pros and cons that led to an overall mediocre experience. I won't be going back, but with their hype, they'll do just fine without me.
I've been searching for a good local burger place and am very happy to find Edzo's. It is a fairly small but really cutsie place. It is kid friendly which is a big plus for me! Their selection is not overly huge, but you can customize your burgers which is nice. They ground their own beef and you can certainly taste the quality of the meat. For the meat lovers out there make sure to get at least a double, because the patties are on a thinner side. For my first burger try at this place I had a single with mushrooms & jalapenos and it was absolutely delishes and filling. The meat was nice & juicy which is another plus (nothing worse than a dry burger). Â Besides burgers they also have a good assortment of french fries, regular & gourmet, as well as some dogs & sausages. To complete my already wonderful burger/french fry experience, this place offered gourmet ketchups! The two I noticed were jalapeno ketchup & habanero ketchup. As a big Ketchup fan this was very exciting to me! Besides ketchup, they also have some other fun sauses sitting around so you have multiple dress options for your french fries (to me multiple sauses = awesome). I will definitely come back to this place again and would recommend it to any Burger fanatic out there.
Stay tuned for an updated review after I try their polish dog & angry fries....yumsies.
I love Edzo's Burger Shop! My perfect meal: inside out grilled cheese, nutella milkshake, and parmesan truffle fries. Edzo's makes my favorite grilled cheese in Chicago. If you love grilled cheese, this place is definitely worth visiting. Edzo's fries are some of the best in the city. The fries are of similar shape to those at DMK Burger Bar and perfectly fried so the outside is crisp but the inside is soft. The fries alone are great, but the seasonings/toppings further heighten the fried potato experience. Parmesan truffle fries, garlic fries, angry fries (spicy but not overwhelming)- can't go wrong with any option. The milkshakes are so thick you can eat them with a spoon. Nutella, salted caramel, coffee- all are fantastic. FYI the Evanston location does both the griddled burgers as well as the heftier char burgers, but this new location only offers griddled burgers. This location is smaller so there is less seating available, but it seemed that everyone who was dining in was able to find a spot at one of the two communal tables or the bar stools. You can also stand by the counters at the front windows and enjoy your meal. Check their Facebook page or Twitter feed for specials on burgers, milkshake, and fries. They will be expanding their hours of operation in the near future as well. Highly recommend!
Review Source:I made several resolutions for this new year but eating healthy and losing weight didn't make the list. Â Thank goodness for that because I decided that today was the day to try Edzo's. Â Not that Edzo's is unhealthy necessarily, it's just that I probably shouldn't have inhaled my entire order of garlic fries...by myself. Â It's really not my fault, though, I couldn't stop!
My neighborhood has got to be the burger mecca of Chicago. Â In fact, I think that's all you can get around here with the occasional taco thrown in here and there. Â But after all the hype about this place, I decided to venture out to give it a go. Â Luckily, I'd been shopping unsuccessfully all afternoon and beat the lunch rush. Â Since it wasn't too crowded, I felt a little more ok with asking a bunch of questions.
I like that you can choose the size of burger you want and that there are tons of toppings you can choose from. Â Even though I got the single patty, it was more than enough and very tasty with the bunch of toppings I had them add. Â It was also impressive that they managed to cook the burger with a little pink in it, even though it's pretty thin. Â What can I say, I guess I'm used to those types of burgers turning out like hockey pucks.
I wasn't going to get fries but after checking out the variety that they have, I couldn't pass them up. Â I couldn't just have the regular fries, I had to try something new. Â I thought about the "old fries" but I've become a pro at torching my own fries at home, thank you very much. Â So I asked the guy taking my order and he said that the truffle and garlic fries were the most popular. Â Now, I was a little concerned about getting garlic, as I had people to see later, but I am so tired of truffle everything that I decided to try them after all. Â Let me tell you, they are totally worth investing in some professional strength breath mints. Â Holy cow, they were amazing (clearly, since I ate them ALL). Â
I wish I would have tried a shake, I definitely will next time. Â Next time...when I bring a friend to share my garlic fries.
What a great little place!  I got a burger to go and the best fries ever. I had just plain traditional fries but they have fries made with truffles which some day I will splurge on.  I don't know how they managed to make everything so tasty without anything being  greasy.  The owner was very friendly as was everyone working there. A lot of burger shops have been opening up in the area but this is far and away the best.  The best compliment I can gave it is that they serve burgers and fries that are more than worth the calories!!!!!
Review Source:Went to the new Lincoln park Edzos after trekking out to Evanston several times. What a great joint. Went with my son's 4th grade basketball team, 8 kids and 2 coaches. Some ate hotdogs, some burgers, everyone loved their food, the burgers get a lot of pub, but the hot dogs are top notch. We had plain fries, buffalo fries and truffle fries...each one unique and outstanding. We split Nutella and Oreo milkshakes, incredible. Eddie (edzo) was there making sure we had everything, and was a great host. I asked the kids if they'd prefer mcDonalds or edzo s and in unison they all screamed "edzos!" Â What a gem of a place.
Review Source:Edzo's Edzo's... Where have you been my whole life?
This was my very first visit to Edzo's (Never been to the Evanston location) and I am HOOKED. Â Amazaing Food and amazingly friendly owner. Â
Although the place is on the smaller side, the location is good and the place was PACKED which is always a good sign! Â Any place that serves Merk's Cheddar is a must try in my book and I'm glad i convinced my Wife to try Edzo's. Â I ordered the double Merk's cheddar burger, grilled onions and an order of truffle fries. Â DAMN i was impressed. Â The burger was perfect, the meat, juices, cheese, everything was great. Â I've never spent $6 bucks on an order of fires before but they were amazing as well. Â I can't wait to go back and get the cheese fries (with Merk's cheddar of course).
We splurged and for the infamous 4$ milk shake (made by the infamous Omar) and it was amazing as well. Â Very thick, creamy and lots of chocolate. Â I will always get a shake with my meal from Edzo's from now on. Â
Overall Edzo's goes into my top 3 of best burgers of all time, it's hard to say it's #1 since i've only been once but I think I found my new burger fix in the city.
