I'm not sure why Epic Burger has bad reviews AT ALL!! I ate here yesterday and had the turkey burger and absolutely loved it!! I love that they give you a choice between buns and cheeses and also that you can add toppings on. The customer service was awesome and can't believe how many friendly people work there. I work just down the street and will be definitely be coming here a lot more now.

You know, I'm just sick of the use of the word "epic," as a superlative, because mostly everything that is described as such, rarely is.

Enter Epic Burger, another in the family of "upscale" burger joints.  Like everywhere else, they offer a sparse menu, the ability to choose from a multitude of toppings, and fries with a description that's meant to make them seem more than just deep-fried cut potatoes.

Sorry, but this doesn't do it for me.  The burgers are too flat, dry, and bland.  For the same $10 for a combo meal, I can get an superb Italian Beef at Portillo's or Al's, or an always good chicken sandwich at Chik-Fil-a.  In fact, I'll just go to Chipotle next door, and not be disappointed by my "epic" expectations.

Burger is extremely greasy, dry, and under seasoned. The whole grain bun is tasty and I like that they give you the option to add a fried egg, but if you're going to spend $10 on a burger, there are better options in the neighborhood.

This is an aptly-named place..in the same way that, after being kicked in the nuts for five minutes, getting kicked in the ribs feels comparatively EPIC!

Bland burgers. Routine fries. Toss in a healthy dose of attitude at the register.

Saddle up and walk 3 blocks to Portillo's. It'll be worth every lard-lusting step.

Really good burgers. I order a Jr. because a normal sized burger here would send me into a food coma. The portion sizes are kind of a lot, but it's un-American for me to complain about too much food, so I'll just leave it up to you to decide if it's too much or not.

I've had the turkey burger, regular burger, and the chicken sandwich here (I work on Michigan Ave, so we eat here for work-lunch a lot). All were good, but again - I'd go with the Jr. size.

The meat tastes a lot better than most other burger places in the area and the wheat buns are a nice option for anyone trying to be good. Overall, delicious food.

This place rocked my whole office this week.  We have been working long hours, so for lunch I placed a large order (burgers, fries, and shakes for over 20 people) at 10:45am, everything was hot and ready for us at 11:40, (except the shakes, nice and cold!)  they even provided us 2 full bottles of ketchup and mustard!  Not only that, but I brought 3 people from my office with me to pick this food up, and we didn't have enough hands to get it all, so the manager had one of his employees walk with us back to our office (2 blocks) so we wouldn't have to make two trips. The employees were all very helpful on the phone and in person, and I can't praise the food quality enough!  (Plus Manager Kevin McCoskey was super helpful!)

    Bravo Epic Burger, Bravo!

    Salt. Ever heard of it?

The burger patty, the grilled onions, and the fries were all severely lacking some Sodium Chloride. It's one thing for any of those to be too salty, but to not salt anything at all is disrespectful to the taste-buds. I'm not even asking for a lot of salt. I just need something to draw the flavors out so I can tell the difference between a grilled onion and a french fry by more than just the texture.

The only thing epic about this place was my disappointment.

Epic is right!  Nevertheless, I housed this burger like it was a tic tac, it was so good.  Finished it in roughly 2.2 seconds, without a care to how I looked or than my hubby was only half way through his when I did.  What can I say, I am a true lady! lol!

Seriously though, the whole mission of Epic Burger is to provide you with a great burger with great beef (lean and non-greasy) and fresh toppings; everything is organic. I had a choice of breads for my buns and opted for wheat, which was nice.  The fries were good, but definitely in need of some salt, so make sure you grab that.

Service-wise, I had a really great experience.  The young man who took our order was very polite and professional and the set up in the restaurant was simplistic and clean. Conveniently located off of the Magnificent Mile, it's a great place to stop in and grab a bite.

Loved Epic! Great burger and staff. Merkle served us and was very helpful and sweet.  You don't usually find staff that care so much about customers.
The burger was terrific with the grilled onions and the fries were delicious too!

    Yum. Yum. Yum.

    That Epic sauce really is  E p i c!

My first burger in Chicago was from Epic burger.
And it was actually the Portobello Sandwich which was the best portobello sandwich I've ever had!

Since then I've gone back for burgers and it's always been soo good.

This particular location is pretty busy during lunch time on weekdays, so expect a long wait for your food. But it's worth it!

Had this for lunch today. What a bland, uninspired, overcooked burger. I wasn't asked the doneness, but these are done in typical Steak and Shake style - thin, crispy, and way overcooked. It was like eating a bunch of chunks of old, leftover beef that had been on the grill far too long. The bun was fine, nothing to speak of, and the toppings were fine too. Again, nothing to speak of. At $9+ for a double burger, with cheese, no bacon, egg, or more, I was annoyed. I should have gone to one of the many steakhouses in the area, spend $5 more, and had a truly terrific burger.

first time visit, thought I'd try it out. okay burger and fries and shake; nothing to really warrant the $13 it set me back. patty seemed a bit small, but they make up for it w lettuce and tomato, which were fresh and crispy. fries were about half those little charred ones. shake was good, but then came with a thin straw, so felt like I had to earn each sip.

all in all, just ok. a safety in case the nearby m burger is closed...

I arrived at about 7:25, ordered at 7:29, and waited over half an hour. No food...no sign of it coming any time soon.

I had been using the WiFi from Pei Wei to pass the time when I decided to go next door to Pei Wei and get food  I ordered and paid, got my food, then returned to cancel my order at Epic. Getting my money back took another 10 minutes while the manager tried to figure out how to refund a credit card. 50 minutes for a burger, or actually, 50 minutes an still no burger. Were they waiting for the calf to grow up?

I will not be dining at Epic Burger, any of them, ever.  This experience was so miserable it has completely tainted my view of the chain.

I was in the mood for a homegrown, made in the USA, true blue American iconic meal. While I had many options available to me, not including the grotesque colon bomb at McDonald's, I chose to check out this place.

It had a pleasant interior with lots of space to move around between tables. Having enough floor space between tables so not to trip or bump others while you're eating is always high on my list. The selections are numerous and all delicious. The french fries were good but nothing spectacular.

I suppose the highlight of my meal was the brunette female employee who scurried around the place clearing tables and whatnot from around the restaurant. Oh, the hamburger was pretty good as well but not nearly as memorable.

I will surely check this place out again the next time I'm in the area and in the mood for a hamburger. Although, paying 10+ dollars for a hamburger and fries is kind of ridiculous.

I don't really eat burgers since I don't eat red meat...but I decided to give the place a try.

The menu is very limited which I like...burger, turkey burger, veggie burger, or chicken sandwich. Even with a small menu I had a hard time ordering but thank goodness the register girl was sweet and patient. I never had a turkey burger before and she convinced me to try it. (The only burger that comes in a Jr. size).  When she asked me if I wanted caramelized grilled onions.... whoaaa awesome...best option ever!

So I stared at my burger for awhile when I got it...It looked good...and a bit big for being a Junior sized burger. Well let me tell you that I don't even remember eating it...I think I ate in one minute...that good. I must have even had a mouthful of burger when I told my friend.."OMG so good".

I am sold on turkey burgers now...I just need to find a location closer to home! :-)

Yep another review because it was so good but this time the service made the experience 5 star. A young lady named Brianna was so pleasant and congenial that it made my fast food dining experience a WOW.. The burgers are fresh and good and I will return again again and again.

good burger, but by the time you finish ordering with fries and smoothie --- it'll cost you about $16 --- if you come here often, be sure to ask for "punch card" for a free burger on your 10th visit.

everyone deserves chances so i will occasionally re-visit establishments that did not get favorable reviews from me in hope that they have addressed the issues and will revise my views accordingly

With the proliferation of burger joints all over the city, I figured I should try at least another besides Five Guys.

I did the shake combo, with a single Epic Burger on white with everything (grilled onions) and cheddar.  The portion size was huge, with the edges of the burger extending well beyond the bun (fine with me).  Fries were crispy, and the shake thick and rich.

Meh.  Six of one, half dozen of another.

Like my Five Guys experience, Epic Burger needs to SEASON.  Overall the quality was good, but both the loaded Epic Burger and fries needed much more flavor.

    Shake was the best part.

They gave me a chicken burger instead of the regular burger that I ordered.  I was in a rush so I didn't ask them to change it.   The chicken was just OK.   Wasn't so bad overall but I probably won't come again.

I received a very attentive letter from the management at Epic. I've been back ever since, during the rush hours when it's full. The quality is always good and so is the price. I've decided to give it another shot but mostly for the lunch rush service. In addition to the breakfast at gold coast location, please include a salad addition!

I grabbed a quick lunch here on my way back to work - my first time at an Epic Burger. When I entered, there was no menu in sight, so I asked if they had a paper menu. They had forgotten to turn on their TVs that display the menu and had no paper menus to substitute, so I patiently waited while a manager fired up the electronic menu boards (while being continually asked by the cashier if I knew what I wanted yet, even though the menu wasn't visible yet...) Not a big deal, but kind of funny because there were already several customers in there eating. How did they order? Maybe they're all regulars who knew what they wanted? Oh well. When I did get my food, they got the order wrong, but brought me the correct order pretty quickly. The weirdest part of the experience is that an employee was using a long pole to dust light fixtures that hang over the tables...while people were eating. I began to worry about getting dust all over my food, but luckily she skipped the tables where people were actually seated. To me, any cleaning beyond wiping tables, cleaning up spills, taking out the trash, etc. should be done when there are no customers present.

That being said, I did definitely enjoy my food. I got the turkey burger on a whole wheat bun. The turkey burger was grilled up in the same method as a regular burger, so it tasted delicious! Sometimes turkey burgers can be kind of disappointing to me, but this one was really yummy and could have passed for beef. I also enjoyed the whole wheat bun - not overly grainy and didn't get soggy.  I would probably come back to Epic Burger to try their beef, but I agree with other Yelpers that the service is a little off!

    I enjoy the food.

Whenever I order a grilled cheese, they always forget the specifically-requested toppings, but then again, it is an off-menu item.

What a joke this place is.

I decided to give this restaurant another chance.  I had arrived after 1:15pm and the restaurant was somewhat busy not overwhelmingly busy.

Pauline, order taker, again was speeding to get through my order. Pauline quickly went through what's on the sandwich.   I had requested the chicken sandwich with cheese and mayo.  She stated that the mayo will be on the side.  She asked if I want lettuce and onion.  I stated no onion.  She repeated - no onion.  I paid with a "karma" gift card and balance in cash.

The wait for the food was not long.  Of course, there are onions on the sandwich.  I didn't want to deal with redoing my order.  I just wanted my money back.  Brian, GM, offered a new meal and he would prepare it personally.   I also let him know about my last experience.  I feel that I'm very easy going but come on.

I'm done with this place.  I will try one of the other Epic Burger restaurants since the food is actually very good.

I walked into this joint with "Superman that ho" blasting... Strike one jerks.

The unenthusiastic staff took our order and we waited for our burgers...

More garbage music about booties, rap, money, and prostitutes...

I get the $20 for two hamburgers and I am flat-out unimpressed. Maybe it was the flavor or absolutely garbage music stuck to the roof of my mouth. Maybe it was the dry bun. It certainly wasnt the beef or bacon which were just fine to me. It was the experience. Far from epic it was mediocre burger at best.

If someone who owns this franchise reads this, get your music situation under control. Feel free to review this resource:

    <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.urbandictionary.com%2Fdefine.php%3Fterm%3Dsuperman%2520a%2520ho&s=a1097b436bfd53ea5be4bc56d2b293bdc79330bf93f3d6efb8eb43ad82e4b53a" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.urbandictiona…</a>

And maybe you'll come to realize why rap is only a sign of de-evolution.

I'd been hearing great things about Epic burger, and it did not disappoint! We went in at around 11:30 am on a Wednesday, and there was no line. Then, as I was reading their wall, I saw the words "cage free," "no steroids," and other organic-sounding things. After watching Food Inc, I've grown to appreciate those words, even more when the food is delicious!

Got the burger with all the toppings. We asked for a fried egg, which they forgot to give us, so the manager took our food back and re-made us a burger, then offered a free shake and a $5 voucher. I was already determined to love this place, but the burger itself sealed the deal. Patty was super juicy, veggies were all fresh, and the bun was perfect.

Fries were AMAZING! Definitely better than any other fast food you're going to get around Streeterville. Huge, thick-cut fries, makes you feel like you're eating a real potato.

Epic burger, I will be back!

Co-worders were raving about this place, so decided to walk down the street and check it out.

I ordered a single cheese burger with fries and a "real" fruit smoothie. I almost cancelled my order when the cashier told me it will be $13 and change. Worst was when I seen the burger and it was just a tiny little thing for the price they charge.

Nothing truly epic about their burgers. Yeah, they taste good, but Five Guys is still the better chain. I appreciate their focus on organics, but it doesn't make their menu a healthy lunch/dinner option.

It's just another overpriced chain flaunting "organics" and not having any real health value.

I just ate my first Epic burger. Seriously I polished it off 2 min ago. Mmmmmmmm

I didn't have high hopes considering the reviews on here but my burger was delish.  I ordered the junior burger...it's plenty big but maybe only for the ladies.

I kept it simple, lettuce, raw onion, tomato, pickle, epic sauce and added ketch-up and yellow mustard.
The bun is great - not too light, not too heavy.

If you want to keep it on the healthier side, skip the fries, soda and no cheese or bacon on the burger.

I thought the staff was very nice and service was prompt.

I don't get burger cravings often but when I do, Epic Burger is my new go-to spot in Streeterville.  M Burger is a joke compared to this place.

My bf and I go here weekly due to convenience and overall it is average.  It would be nice if they could offer side salads, sweet potato fries, and/or other healthier side options in addition to their greasy fries, cookies, and shakes.

I would give this business 2.5 stars but if I had to choose I would round down versus up.

    Suggestions to the business:
-we eat dinner late; sometimes we've walked in at 9:30PM when close is 10PM; staff make it VERY evident from 9:30PM until close that they could care less about getting your business. I would have given Epic Burger 3 stars but given that each time we come in within 30 minutes of closing time it's evident that they want us out asap.  Not a deal breaker, just a turn off and bad customer service.
-increase the amount of cookies in your inventory; most times they are sold out.
-most cashiers are too robotic when taking orders; very unfriendly and do not fit the organic and/or natural theme to the restaurant

    Likes:
-great location and very convenient since there is parking
    -portabella burger is very flavorful
-it is obvious who the managers are; they have always been professional and friendly

Not impressed! Total for a hamburger and order of fries was $8.80; had to wait 15 minutes for order.  Buns were too large, burger was flat and had no flavor and they said they put their sauce on it? Well I tasted nothing. Quite frankly not very flavorful. The fries were not good either and lacked flavor. I think M burger down the street is better and has flavor.

    I won't be going back.

I'm glad that Epic Burger opened its doors on Ontario. It's considerably closer to work and it is my new place for a burger fix!

I made the mistake of ordering too many adornments the first time (bacon + fried egg+ bleu cheese) and was left feeling like I'd consumed a bizarro garbage burger... there are good garbage burgers, but this one was just too much. Fast forward to my second encounter, where I toned it down with a simple turkey burger: harvarti horseradish and some vegetation. For a junior order, the patty was thinner than I anticipated.

Overall, their burgers are decent- a definite step up from M burger. Their fries are scrumptious and harbor a nice fresh-cut appeal: crisp and thick. Kudos for being conscientious over creating a "mindful" meal, but the end product hasn't deserved the "Epic" title in my book.

Pretty mediocre overall. Burgers were bland, one was pretty greasy, the fries were meh, and the vanilla-based chocolate (hate that) milkshake tasted very very strongly of Hershey's syrup. The whole ordeal was quite expensive. Part of this is understandable because they push organic, natural stuff (all the way down to organic Heinz ketchup), but it was in no way worth the price. Decor inside was nice and clean.

All things said, the issue is that they are a little too caught up in their own hype (with our milk shake, we were offered three different types of milk...) when all the customer really wants is a good product. Next time we want a burger and shake, we'll make the trek up to Evanston to Edzo's (which does the fresh, organic thing for about half the price).

This weekend I went to Navy Pier to watch my step-son snowboard.  I know, you're thinking this is odd since there is no snow.  You are correct.  When we arrived we had missed his snow boarding performance by three minutes and the next one didn't start for another 2.5 hours.  In other good news my husband's ex-wife had just arrived.  Suddenly I needed a burger and a shake.  Luckily Epic Burger was within walking distance.

We arrived and were instantly welcomed by the friendly staff.  I was pleased by the selection of burgers, shakes, smoothies and pop. I was almost tempted by the chicken sandwich, but I had to stick to my original mission.  So, I ordered a cheeseburger with a fried egg, fries and a chocolate shake.  Thank goodness it was mostly organic since that makes it practically health food, right?  Although I went for the real deal you do have the option of skim milk and frozen yogurt for your shake.

Everything was delicious!  I liked the Epic sauce and the fries had the perfect amount of salt. The food does come out a bit slow, but we were warm and as I mentioned we had time to kill.

Another plus is that they recycle and use eco-friendly paper and plastic products.  And who doesn't love having limited amounts of chemicals and hormones in their food?  Although it is a bit pricey, we all enjoyed it.

Meh. In terms of taste and presentation, I would put this on the same level as a Wendy's burger for three times the price.

I had the standard cheeseburger with cheddar cheese on a wheat bun with grilled onions, lettuce, tomato and pickle. The burger patty was way too large for the size of the bun.  The burger was really juicy which is nice, but it left the bun a soggy mess. I don't feel like the flavor of the burger was all that great either (or the flavor of the pickles. Bummer). I definitely needed to add ketchup. It was $10 for a burger and a pepsi, and all I kept thinking was that for $5 more, I could have a Kumas burger and a coke and for a little less, I could walk a few blocks over to M Burger for a coke, fries and a better tasting burger.

Things I liked about Epic Burger:

-Their website is great. It easily lets you calculate the nutritional value of your meal (which is why at almost 700 calories, I skipped the fries). Which brings me to their:
-Epic Rules- which includes quality natural ingredients, cage free eggs and humanely raised beef.
-The decor is nice. It's not your standard fast food joint. The tables and booths are comfy and pretty and it's a nice atmosphere (though the music was bad, but that's personal preference). The restaurant is clean and comfortable.
-The service was great. Ordering was quick and easy, and they give you a number to put on your table so the food is brought to you. It came out quickly and the guy who delivered it was super nice.

So 2 stars for my not-so-Epic burger- though I would come back to try to their chicken or portabella sandwich. I'll update my review if I do.

This is a great place to pop in and get a burger, fries and a drink for the same price as any of "those" places; advantage EPIC because of the attention to details.  I like the siplicity of the product delivery...

This place reminds me of Mighty Fine in Austin...KUDOS!  I will return and use my hand dandy punch card to get closer to my free burger!

2.5 stars. We visited Epic Burger around 3:30 on a Sunday afternoon, and there was only one other customer when we arrived. By the time we left, it was a little busier.

Food: Hubby had a burger with epic sauce (same "signature" sauce as everywhere else - mayo and thousand island), cheddar, and lettuce. He didn't order the fried egg, but somehow his burger came out with one. He also got the peanut butter milkshake. I had the the chicken with horseradish Havarti and a fried egg. We both also had fries. I really appreciate the choices of whole wheat bun, as well as ice cream or yogurt and whole/skim/soy milk for the shake. The sandwiches did taste like they were made of high-quality ingredients. Neither were too greasy at all. The horseradish havarti was very good. The fries were OK - too "squishy" for me. Not crispy at all. Milkshake was good, but not anything special.

Value: Our meal was $25 for two people. I understand that they use better ingredients, but the price seemed too high for what we got. Especially with the average fries and milkshakes.

Atmosphere: We both liked the decor of the restaurant, but the horrible music took away from the ambiance. There certainly was nothing "Epic" about the jazzy piano elevator/waiting room music that was playing. With the dark wood/industrial metal decor, the music was totally out of place.

Service: We didn't have any problems with the service. Everyone was nice and friendly.

I would go back if I was with someone who really wanted to try it, but would probably skip the fries and shake and just stick with a burger/sandwich.

I like epic burger.  The burgers are pretty good - but the shakes and smoothies are what really set Epic Burger apart.  I tried 2 of the smoothies and one of th emalts over 3 visits during a week in the city recently.  The chocolate malt was good .... creamy, malty and delicious all around.  The PB Enjoy smoothie was hands down my favorite.  It had banana, peanut butter, milk and vanilla yogurt.  It was delish with a CAPITAL D.  The Lemon Squeeze - lemondae, vanilla yogurt, strawberries is seriously yummy but not a match for the PB Enjoy.  The fries were good but i am not a fry gourmand so i cannot say they are that much better than other burger joints.  Be specific about what you want on your burger or you may end up with sauce or pickles you dont want.  I get everything on it so that isnt an issue for me but i noitced others had to be specific.

Staff is friendly and efficient.  Place has a very sterile environment but lets face it ...you came here to pig out not to have great conversation.

I don't get what people see in Epic Burger. I've been to two locations and it was the same deal. Unseasoned bland beef and turkey burgers at a high price.

I'm all for paying more for organic, all natural, fresh ingredients but the food has to stand up in the taste test. Both times I've had Epic Burger the meat was overcooked and had little flavor. Part of the problem might be that the patties are big and wide but pressed too thin.  A standard burger or turkey burger at $6 seems reasonable and it comes with grilled or raw onions, ketchup, mustard, epic sauce, lettuce and tomato but once you start adding things like cheese, bacon, or egg at a $1 a pop and then add fries and a drink you are over $10 with tax.  Again, I'd pay that if the food was good. I'm not paying that for a mediocre burger. I haven't had any shakes yet but even though I'm intrigued by peanut butter banana smoothie it's doubtful I'll be back unless it's just for a drink.

The fries are good but not worth a trip alone. The epic sauce is a nice touch but seems like a rip of the special sauces at places like In N Out Burger (much much better and cheaper).  I'm curious as to what people see in Epic Burger as they are expanding fast. They clearly are eying themselves as the next big chain. It should excite me that a burgeoning chain in the Midwest sells all natural, organic products but with the food being so meh I could care less. I honestly think Epic Burger could fall flat on their faces if they expand too quickly in this economy at these prices.

Just so you know, this is a counter service place where you place your order at the register, get a number and sit down. Someone will bring your order to you. The employees are friendly and ask you if you need something but food does take a bit of time to come out. They probably just need to work the kinks out.

It sucks because the freshest, most all natural ingredients should be the most affordable to Americans, but instead, the cheapest crap is potato chips, cookies and processed foods. For produce, the cheapest comes from corporate farms and genetically engineered products from evil behemoth, Monsato. But enough politics, save your money and search for a better burger.  I really wish this old post office space was occupied by places like Protein Bar and Hannah's Bretzel.
